Annoyed with the success of the Mario Kart series, a bunch of Rare characters got together and held a racing competition of their own. Along with the availability of several types of vehicles, this game has something of a storyline to it and full completion requires reloading a saved game after the credits run for the first time. More races occur after the initial credit roll, so don't stop watching once the ending plays.

@@anttiaarnio9851 bear (ha) in mind that he was included in this game before banjo kazooie was released. it still had a year in development so kazooie might not have been concieved as the backpack partner yet.
The Brazilian instruction manual says that Banjo put a lot of stuff in his backpack, because he hasn't partnered with Kazooie during the events of the game.

I know this is an old comment, but I was thinking this last night. I've basically replayed the game in about a day (and part of the previous night). Helps to be a skilled adult that knows and understands advanced techniques but this game felt so much longer as a kid. Doesn't help that I got terrified of the Wizpig head slowly completing and that I was too anxious to beat the silver coin challenges outside of Dino Domain and most of Snowflake Mountain.
Even as a teen, the DS version too me so much longer to beat though I did 100% that one.
tl;dr game wasn't as long as it seemed as a kid.

I never knew that the wheels on the karts were sprites until seeing how aliased they were in this video. That's impressive to be sure, how solid they look from every angle.
Crash Team Racing used the same technique. On those old CRT TVs it was really seamless.
Yeah, the N64 couldn’t render round objects in 3D without obvious flat edges. It’s why everything with a circular/ spherical shape in N64 games was a flat texture. Worked pretty well though, and nobody really noticed back in the day.

Something that doesn't get talked about is how great the font of this game is.

Still amazing to remember that this was both Banjo's and Conker's first game before they got their own spin-offs (and Banjo, with Kazooie, would get invited to Smash as well)
And DKR is such a good game, got a ton of nostalgia with this one
Hopefully a newer TAS will happen that demonstrates and optimizes a lot of the glitches though, I know this TAS is super old (2007) and a lot has changed since then - the game's still huge in the speedrun community to this day
actually, this is conkers second appearance.he had a GBC game, conker's pocket tales, before DKR.

It absolutely was. Even just 2 humans it would get intense and as you added more people it could go on for a while. It was my and my sister's favourite track.

@@QuiteDan I managed to find it by sheer accident. But the one in the Lagoon though.. that took days.
Funny enough, this was one of the few keys I found by myself. I had to look up the ones for Snowflake Mountain and Sherbet Island.
This game still feels unfinished.. like, for example, take Spaceport Alpha.. to the right, next ro the finish line, there's an open space which is a perfect hiding spot for a key, or some sort of collectible, and also right at the end after beating wizpig a second time, there's an end-credits scene that cuts off before the game restarts on its own..
Is anyone working on an updated TAS with all the modern strats? It’s kind of funny watching a TAS that’s over 14 minutes slower than the current WR.
Justin Rosinski the normal any% runs start out with the fastest character already unlocked which is used to clip to the final level. A TAS cant really use save files like that so it wouldn't really work.
The tas is 10 years old. What would you expect?
@@ezgames6925 Wait, why can a TAS not use save files like that? All a TAS is, is a human inputting commands frame by frame with savestates. I have trouble believing that would be impeded by using a particular save file.
@@ShinySpinarak part of TASing rules states that you have to start with no save data of any sort, the 'cart' has to be 100% fresh.
@@CJTheExpert Yes, that's a reason someone won't do it. I was wondering why someone was claiming TAS can't do it. I'm sure if the original run does it, an exception could be made to the rule, but it is not up to me, naturally.
What the hell I NEVER noticed the shortcut on the first boss fight and I’ve beat this game several times. Mind blown
Shame Taj isn’t playable in the original game, he is such a jolly character and it would have been cool to ride on a carpet. This game is amazing as it is though!

Wow, after all these years I never knew about the short-cut with the dinosaur boss race. 8:55 I used to struggle with the race because I kept drifting off the edge near the finish line.
Fun fact, every character in this game was suppose to have their own game but only a few did.

He's the second fastest of the default characters but has better handling than Krunch (the fastest).
Drumstick and TT are better but unlocking/changing characters loses the time gained.

31:57 funny story.. i played this game when i was 8yo, circa '97, i did not read this part or if i did, i did not know the name of those darned boosters that were on the floor or water or air at strategic points in every race.. and because of that it took me forever to beat the wizpig until i accidentally performed that trick while racing the wizpig 😅

What do you mean by "Tool assisted"?
Yael Miranda we use a tool to slow down the game to make frame perfect input to play a game as fast as possible.
Like they said, but also it's used to manipulate random chance in your favor.
TAS are inhumanly precise and "lucky", designed to produce the most efficient, or impressive, speedruns.
TAS (Or Tool Assisted for short) is a very skilled runner who runs all kinds of games
@@Marius-J your comment makes no sense, TAS meaning ( Tool Assisted Speedrun/Superplay ) utilizes emulator tools such as frame by frame, button input, and inputs a regular controller cannot do such as a left + right simultaneously, and also uses key presses to generate RNG into their favor. Also uses save states and RERECORDING incase things do not go their way they can use different input sequences to make them go their way. It is not a very skilled runner who runs all kinds of games wtf
Basically, gameplay as a MIDI or player piano. Every single input is carefully placed to the highest precision. Game is not altered at all, just exploited by a Tool that allows one to "record" exactly what controller inputs to do at exactly what time, to get exactly what they want to happen, to happen. At the highest level of precision, there is no uncertainty.

It would have been better for the story if Wizpig would have been stuck on that planet, and perhaps it would have been cool if he accidently crashed near an army of Kremlings led by King K. Rool, which chases him all around the planet.

that being said the last run i watched of diddy kong racing, they clipped out of bounds in the hot top volcano level, and booted up another trophy race in another world and the game was tricked into thinking you where still doing the dino domain one, and just gives you the trophy for that world without you doing anything. i thought that glitch was pretty sick.
