Ancient Lake has a lot of history, it's the track that Daniel Viebrock (Burning Death) discovered that barrel rolling in the plane was broken, which 0xwas used to revolutionize the vehicle after Stefan Mahrla set a few quick records with the tech.
My rollercoaster day was beating F-Zero GX on Very Hard. It took about 75ish tries just that day and I was getting ready to quit and the stars aligned. This was after trying on and off for around 10 years.
Cool video! I can raise you one: Trystan Pugh only ever got 1 time trial world record in Mario Kart 64 - 1.57.79 PAL on RRd flap, on January 29th, 2006, tied with Tim Everett (also his only WR). That same day Michael Jongerius beat the WR by an insane .4 seconds to 1.57.39!
Great video! Would love to see you cover more DKR greatness! This game has endless speedrunning stories to tell, and car has only gotten more and more insane in 2020 & 2021.
If you'd like a similar story, about two years ago, I figured I'd grab an easy world record, so I went into the Game and Watch Gallery 2 speedrun leaderboard and uploaded a time for the first category, 100 Points / Easy / Modern. Five super simple games, no mechanics explanation, just you and the RNG. Because the WR was so easy to grab, I stated so in my video descriptions. Always had input display available, since I didn't own the cartridges and was just emulating them. However, whenever I uploaded a world record, before it would get published on the leaderboard, it would get beaten by one of the moderators. I didn't let that slide until three records in, when it didn't happen.
Well @PsychoDelicJoey can say that he *was* the one that took down the record first. Nobody can remove him that! And I LOVE Diddy Kong Racing. So, I'd LOVE to see more.
This will always remain to be one of my all time favorite games and my go to 'back in the day' nostalgia factories. I listen to the soundtrack every now and then just for the feels.
My Rollercoaster moment. Game: Saints row on Xbox 360 Mission: Final blue gang mission. Objective: drive across town in one car and destroy a semi After hours upon hours of trying the mission I finally destroyed the truck, (it flew up in the air and everything) And as I drove away waiting for the end mission screen the truck fell onto my vehicle, ending my life and failing the mission..
Although I have never played this game I recently had a horrible nightmare involving the clock face guy. I had no idea where I had seen him until I saw this video it actually increased my heart rate when I saw him
glad everyone was a good sport. I know how much emotions can run high in this community sometimes, but this all seems like good fair competition which is nice
DKR is super chill! Like yeah I got my times beaten, and at one point I went from 12 WRs at one time to 0! But I recently got back 2 and am working on getting back more. We're all good friends and respect each other for pushing each other. Records don't last forever, but it is fun setting them. They push me to go for more
Diddy Kong Racing was the first game on the N64 that lots of us as kids felt like it was "our game" it gave a strange positive feeling and looking back at it now is brings back so much nostalgia. I love that this has highlighted the community for another amazing N64 game. I look forward to seeing what other games come to light from the N64 and seeing what communities benefit from these amazing videos. Keep up the good work and let's see some neesh N64 games like South Park 64 or Mission Impossible 64 speed runs. But only if you find time to explore those titles.
Goose! I love your style dude! I thoroughly appreciated the audio effects you used on your voice in the beginning to emulate the announcer's voice when entering a level! This game brings me so much nostalgic feels and I love it!
I think my biggest roller coaster in gaming would be with Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy for PSP. So, my friend group in high school didn't like Final Fantasy, and they'd often make fun of my for playing it. Mostly just to be trolls. They were gamers and weebs themselves, we just had different tastes. They liked Naruto and Oblivion, I liked Gundam and Final Fantasy. Anyways, one of my friends in the group decided to pick up the game as a curiosity, got great with Jecht, one of the characters that always gave me trouble to fight AND play as, and proceeded to wipe the floor with me for the next few weeks. I got super mad at this. He wasn't spiteful about it or anything, but I was over here with a 300+ hour save file, all characters maxxed, etc. He picks up the game and instantly can beat me, when he didn't even LIKE Final Fantasy. So, I spent about a week fighting nothing but CPU Jecht on the hardest difficulty, learning all his possible ins and outs of how to fight him. Returned for a grudge match, best 2 out of 3, and won. Pretty silly in hindsight. I was such an edgelord back in highschool.
Biggest Rollercoaster in speed gaming for me: I was into the Achievement Hunters group in Diablo 3 in Season 1. There were special achievements called Conquests specific to the season. One was "Sprinter" which means you complete the Story Mode Acts 1 through 5 in under 1 hour. I had been in groups working towards it for a while, had been in a few different groups. We were like 6 hours into this session and we loaded up for one last attempt for the night. The group had OK ish pace through Acts 1 and 2. Act 3 was a little weak but we could still make. Act 4 was ok again. I was the one keeping time and didn't think we'd be able to do but had screwed up the Math in my head (Math teacher btw). And It was looking like we were just gonna be short. However the group super clutched it. We all split in the second to last area and I was able to get to the end by knowing the tileset. Our group leader super clutched the final two paths picking the right ones. At the end I was told how it was triggered And it looked like we were going to be less than 10 seconds too slow after killing the final boss; thus we were Devastated. But the trigger was something else, and we actually completed in 59:59 (getting the time needed for the Conquest by 1 sec!). That moment of thinking you were just a few seconds too slow on a 1 hour run to making it by 1 second was too amazing. I hope every experiences that video of this is here: th-cam.com/video/MSVTLGQ1Yw0/w-d-xo.html ; gonna have to rewatch it now.
Everytime I watch your videos, they are presented in such a way that not only captivates me and anyone else watching but would force any English/drama teacher to give you an A+ Movie production qualities in all of your videos. Thank you for staying true !
Thank you for the Bell reminder for TH-cam! I could have sworn I had it all the way on... That's weird.. I used to always see your videos in my feed. But yeah, I guess they haven't been showing up lately for me either...
This stage is just like Marc Rutzou (I am referring to "Fucking Marc Rutzou!) on Train - holding the WR for sooooo long. Calle is insane. His Surface 1 WR's are some of the most incredible records ever set on 007
DKR was one of my childhood games and to see so much love and competitiveness today reminds me that even though it is ~25 years ago, it's still awesome to this day!
I know the pain, not as fast or devastating but I was definitely a sore loser about it. I use to run Saints Row 2 Ronin arc and had wr for about a month. Was aiming for first sub 1:30 but the previous record holder had beat me to it. I was salty and never ran again.
My roller coaster moment: Game: Glover 64 I got an untied world record for the Atlantis Bonus level with such minimal effort that I became known as the Real Glover Legend in the speedrunning discord (which you should join btw Glover is awesome). I think I held the untied for a day or two before fellow runner heeheex2 tied my run. Not many days after, another runner, Ac_143, came out of a bout of silence to immediately beat the record, thus putting me in second place. I like to tease that I’m still upset but honestly it’s just so cool being a part of a game’s speedrun history, especially one I’ve loved so much since I was a child :)
I just did something because of this video that I have never done before. I bought the sponsored product and used the provided code. I need that fan thingy in a wallet
Though more than 20 years have passed, I still remember how to unlock Drumstick the chicken., by passing over one of the frogs in the first area. That was also the first "cheat" I've found without any guide. I guess my answer to your question is pretty obvious now :D
I'm so happy to hear that the legendary player beat the other legendary player's legendary record in the legendary course with a legendary time... of legend. I feel this is a settup to have the next new sponsor be Grammarly.
For some reason, when I try to drift around the corners like these runners do, I go slower than by simply tapping A. I cannot for the life of me figure out how it works so well for them. I know it's my lack of practice at it, but I can never get my speedometer even close to 120, it generally will hover around 95-105 even with TT at 10 bananas, while these guys are staying solid at 105-115. Am I just not tapping A fast enough?
Whoa this guy was a pro in eSports head to head competition and now a world record holding pro speedrunner Whoa this guy has insane skills I don't see many people who are pro eSports players who are also pro speedrunners very often I guess it's usually to demanding and even to hard for people because it's basically two different professions although pro eSports players also have same skills as speedrunners so they could probably do it but like I said for most people it would be exstreemly hard stressful and demanding
Pretty amusing he's got two different wallet sponsors, it's almost like someone at Fantom saw one of his videos and said "hey, this is a great ad, he should do that again but for us!"
Look Gary there I am!!!
you're still the real legend in my eyes. screw nordicboa and calle w

Seeing anything Diddy Kong Racing related makes me happy
Hey Goose! Thanks for showcasing the DKR community. I found a home in it and I feel it deserves more recognizion. Take care, my friend!
Cool that it has a community. I worshipped that game as a kid and even wrote a blog post about it later.
i like how the guy goes "that was easy" and finally gets the WR!
But then.... NOPE! gets it taken away by someone els lol

The whole story of ghostless time trials is fascinating because it’s a complete accident 😊 which is what the new discovery was.

Oh god, I just realized a 10 year old record dates from 2011 and this game is over 23 years old. And I was 10 when it came out. I need a drink.

Really like coverage of nonglitch racing runs, this and your 1080 snowboarding video are some of my favorites!

No, that turns time trial mode on and off, not the ghost. The ghost is only on default tracks but after unlocking TT the ghost is always there.

You saying toonie was oddly comforting
I ordered a ridge wallet from a Karl Jobst video two months ago and still have not received it
