Thank you very much for your videos! They are the thing that keeps me going when I feel like leaving architectural school. I have a question though: Where can you buy that small tracing paper roll, I would love to get one, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Thank you for your answer and good luck with your projects! :)

You are, without a doubt, one of the most inspiring and profoundly wise designers I have ever come to know. You speak to in terms that are easy to understand and extremely insightful. You have the heart of a teacher that is far beyond your years. Anyone who listens to you can feel the passion you have for your work. I applaud your energy, your practical perspective , and your ability to communicate your ideas. I have already listened to several hours of your work and hope you come to Dallas some time and share your talents. Good luck, God bless, and keep up the great work.

Copics = ❤️ My Boss at my last job in Germany gave me a whole set for landscape architecture as a going-away gift! Copics also makes the brilliant Multiliner series of fine nibs. That sketch book with the dots is ingenious! My must-have is the parallel glider. For clearing my mind, I prefer garden therapy and running; I have to travel quite far from the tundra (Michigan) to see design inspiration by a professional.

I am a student in architecture and i feel i can get a bit depro if i don't get away from my workstation. Things can become a bit dull here.
Its really true that you need to get away from the studio. It stimulates the mind and makes you think about new things and get new ideas.
I Really love you're videos. I find myself in your older photos and get awesome advice!
    Keep it up!!!

Hi, I'm 14 and since little I had a natural talent for drawing, I still do, but now I feel a bit uncomfortable drawing things in general. Later, I found out about architecture and I realized that I liked making or drawing building and floor plans. Being inspired by your videos I started purchasing my sketching supplies. I started with the Pentel Graphgear 0.7mm, and Copic gray set that include a 0.5mm multiliner. Today beginning with a basic color set of about 7 colors that you recommended in one of your other videos or blog, I added about 15 other colors of the Copic Sketch markers thinking of colors used in building exterior and landscaping colors., plus a 0.25mm multiliner, a block erasor and pen erasor. I also picked up a Copic Sketch pad for my final design ideas that I want on better quality paper. So now I am building up my sketching skills on simpler small cheaper wire ringed notepad. I bought my supplies from a local small art store that has great service answering questions and a new member discount so only paid about $5.50/marker which is pretty decent compared to the big box art supply chains like Michaels. I like using engineering paper to think about floorplans because it has the squares on the back but not as good for color because it is light green. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.

You are amazing! I started following you today and have already learned so much. The way you present yourself, the way you speak, the way you work is so inspiring! Thank you!
I start school this June, I am 31 years old but have dreamed of being an Architect since I was in high school. I have always love drawing but when I took the engendering design class my JR year and saw all the amazing models and blue prints I automatically fell in love! I remember graduating being in the principals list and to be honest I had no idea awards were offered in high school. I attended a college at the age of 20 give or take and dropped out for whatever reason (not that I do not want to share with you but too long of a story).
I now have a 1 year old daughter and am happily engaged to the most wonderful, caring and loving woman whom has shown me so much love and respect apart from my beloved mother. I have been going through so much lately and hit rock bottom breaking point! Financially, mentally and everything else you can think of. My wife to be and precious daughter Athena are whom keep me sane and remind me what love is here on earth. I decided I was ready for change, for growth, I came to the sense I wanted to be a positive, motivating and influential father figure for my daughter. I decided I wanted to reach my every goal! I applied for The Academy of Art University in San Francisco and will shortly start my journey to becoming a licensed architect. I am well aware of the fact I am many years away from that dream but if I don’t start now, I will never get to where I want to be.
I apologize for going on a never ending story but you asked to comment below. Thank you for reminding me why I love Architecture, I feel as if you have impregnated me with life through your teachings (multiple videos I have seen). Please continue to grow, teach us and remain feeding your heart that warm and humble love that shines through your being. Thank you!

You look awake in this one, fresh. Traveling does you good. For me it's the same. Traveling, taking pictures, recording sound. Everywhere I go I take something from that place, a leaf, natural cotton fibers, a small rock shard, a dried flower. For me the table in the living room is the most important, it is made of wood, it lives and breathes, it has scratches and scuffs, and if wax drips on it I sometimes leave it there, and sometimes I remove it. But it's no biggie if that happens. The head of the table sits flush against the wall and there is where I keep all my traveling souvenirs. Sometimes I replace them one by one, and put new stuff there for inspiration. Either way, guests always admire my table. It's a conversation starter.

Alumnicolor makes an amazing architects and engineering scale. They are a little more pricey $15-20 but they have the most pleasing concave tri-point shape that feels great in the hand. That being said in a studio environment I've lost/ had borrowed and unreturned at least 2 or them and 1 or so of just the basic plastic kind.

Those Copic markers reminds me of the small fortune I spent on Letaset markers back in the day (yea, I'm that old) when I was getting my Graphic Design degree. Sketch pads, tracing paper, and vellum were the "go to" items for thoughts. There is something about the tactile feel of those mediums and tools that bring back very fond memories.

Hi. I´m not an architect by far... But I really enjoy your "style" and videos, they are really an inspiring source for me as a starting artist. I really enjoy architechtural sketching, that is why I follow you. and of course, your tips on materials are really top notch.
Thanks and greeetings from Mexico City.

I showed your last video to my building services lecturer (Dr. Neil Sturrock, who is one of the UK's leading experts in daylight), and he was impressed how you compressed about 6 of his daylight lectures into a 10 minutes video!
He does tours of St. Georges Hall in Liverpool. Must see building if you were ever to visit.

What pulls me away is my interest in weird stuff in studying architecture to enjoy and have fun fill that curiousness in me when I see trees next to a building it comes to me that the trees were plants at some point is the architect had a plan for ten years or more ahead that amazes me til lithos day that’s why it’s my main goal to become the very best in this generation of evolution

Eric, Sir you are a wizard! Keep sharing... inspirational! It appears I cannot buy Muji Notebooks direct in Australia :( When I need a creative break, I head out with camera in hand, it gets my mind flowing to look at shapes, colours, etc., from nature and our surrounds.

the power to pull away from the studio is your desire to feed your creativity and realize that that will be fed by exposing yourself to places and things you haven't seen or experienced.

Another very nice one, Eric. I like to get away from work by driving around in any residential neighborhood that is full of various types of architecture. In the US I find 'hoods like this in areas that were built in the 1920s through the 1950s. And I notice your subscriber base is accelerating! Cheers, SCR

Thanks so much for all of your helpful videos.. will literally watch every single one! I am fresh out of university in London where I studied interior design, spatial design and design management for my postgrad and now i'm back in Bermuda (where I'm from).. about to start my first job at an architecture firm! Your videos have helped me prepare more than you know! Also, I love muji stationery too.. will buy these sketchbooks you recommend. Have you tried their gel ink pens? .. It's my favourite pen at the moment.. works for me for sketching too! :)
