      To all those struggling with architecture and hand drawing, learn how to draft with the most accessible software Sketchup, if you cannot afford BIM like Revit and Archicad.
      It is an essential tool that will get you to explore places such as research, simple illustrations, clear communication, design, bim, and visualization. As students, this can also hdlp your thesis and sidelines to earn money for drafting.
      This shows how to utilize Sketchup for those presentations without relying on Photoshop.

    Time management is a hard lesson to learn in college because nobody really teaches it to you, especially when you're out on your own for the first time. I like the saying "fail early, fail often, but fail forward" - mess up when you're in the learning phase and corrections are cheap, that goes for projects too, lots of designing and executing, and fixing what doesn't work.
    Lovely henna too! ♥️ And lol at the first Q-tip "trick"

    • @DamiLeeArch
      @DamiLeeArch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Absolutely agree. Also, there's so many time management methods out there that it can get confusing. In the past few years I've been trying out different methods, figuring out what works and doesn't work for me. Eg. I was really surprised to find that GTD, the method that everyone seems to be raving about, doesn't work particularly well for me! The search continues!
      Thank you! It was from my first indian wedding! a milder, covid version, but still soooo beautiful and ornate ^^

    • @vinapocalypse
      @vinapocalypse 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DamiLeeArch I don't think I've tried any formalized ones, I just use my own system which is pretty ad hoc lol, but sort of adapted from software project management with setting goals, expectations, and timeframes, breaking things into smaller more manageable tasks, being ok with missed deadlines, and so forth
      It's been ages since I've been to an Indian wedding but they're so beautiful (I mean, really any wedding is of course but you know what I mean lol)

    As an architect you are, for better or worse, responsible for bring your clients up to speed. Great design without communication will not result in buildings. The sketching allows you to focus on anything the client failed to understand, off the cuff explanations. The architecture history allows you to provide context that your client is unlikely to understand, to tell why your design is relevant. Also, Revit is to Autocad as builders are to architects.

    Skill/ attribute number 1: a thick skin and a heap of self confidence. Architecture lecturers will do their level best to humiliate and demoralise you. You need to learn to stick to your guns, take what you can from them, and ignore the negativity.
    2: a love for buildings. Architecture is about buildings. It isn't about concepts and art and philosophy, no matter how much your tutors try to tell you that it is. These people are tutors for a reason: they failed in architecture themselves.
    3: and yes, sketch, sketch, sketch........
    And yes, I'm an architect. I was a mature student 25 years ago, and soon realised that university is more of an obstacle than an opportunity, and that surviving university is hard......but provides an opportunity to teach yourself architecture. They certainly aren't going to aid you in this process, particularly if your interest is in ancient buildings or the vernacular.

    I’m taking an architecture class in high school right now and we’re using revit, and I think it’s a really great tool to use since it’s fairly simple to navigate and it helps with creating floor plans and visualizing the 3D view of your project. I’d also recommend using inventor as a beginner CAD program since it’s what I used in my drafting class last year and it helped me understand isometric views and develop basic foundations of structures. I'm 23 yrs old and I've had the passion to wanna make concepts and schematics for structures since I was a kid.. I've fell in love with architecture and i was really intrigued by all the complex malls and buildings In my district. But it got real for me when I played farcry in the early 2000s and got my young hands on a map editor.. the endless energy I poured Into making ideas and concepts for buildings, houses. Even Sci fi and apocalyptic settings.. I've eventually learned it's better to draw my ideas on paper to get a more general understanding of what I want to create, doing full week projects every opportunity I could, which was pretty much after I was done with hw🤣. Now since I'm older I taught my self a decent understanding of perspective drawing and human anatomy/ reference cuz I'm quite fascinated on those subjects. But perspective drawing is what really caught my eye.. These days I can't help but look at my surroundings alot, and I love looking at buildings that are well designed, even entering some if allowed. I'm always mentally absorbing information and asking questions about its structure, why things are placed in certain positions and never get bored thinking about em.. And I believe that enthusiasm to the creation of things Is why I want to pursue this career path in architecture.. I want to create something myself. A place for people to actually walk into, to admire and appreciate. And put a smile in there face when they see something that catches there eye, or to just be shocked by an interesting room or walking area.. Im positively sure I couldn't get bored with having ideas for projects because Its something I've been doing all this time without even realizing it.. creativity is in all our blood, it's just about finding the right passion and motivator to unlock it. And I just have this feeling that I'm making the right choice with this career.. if I do ill be the first in my family to have a successful backstory😅. Thank u for the motivation and lessons❤

    (I know you had made similar videos, but)personally wishes more videos about the realistic architect world for those who are new to this industry, such as how are the departments divided into? what is each of the department's key roles and required skills? etc. so the beginners would have a better vision about what skills need to be learned and enhanced to be qualified in the upcoming years.
    Thanks again!

    I honestly didn't know what to do with my life but there was one thing I knew which is that I love design. in love to see how the house or building structures are made the color schemes I love 3d modeling that I thought maybe I could be an animator. I appreciate art too. I'm in high school and I am still thinking about my career my parents tell me to become a doctor, but I don't like sciences...other close relatives told me that I should become a data scientist, or anything related to computer science and technology because it has scope and will also have in the future and I made up my mind to do computer science but my heart is leaning towards architecture, I saw other few videos of people and they had so much negativity about it in their videos so I thought maybe I shouldn't go for it. but after watching couple of your videos, I feel like I want to just go for it. from what I learnt from your videos you have to learn this software for 3d modeling which I love, I love to do photography I like to learn about art. I like to create things and bring them to life. Can you please give your insight whether I should go for it or not. Maybe like a push to go for it... I realized this is 2 yrs. video old but I hope you see this comment and maybe reply to pls.

    I've a different approach to the q-tip. Instead use a syringe, fill it up with your favorite glue and go to town with it, the idea being that the less volume of glue you use the quicker it'll dry. If having a hypodermic needle on your work bench puts you off you can buy blunt needles at art supply stores. A bit pricey but worth it imo
