Anyone else wish BJJ would somehow go back to the Roger/ Terere days? This was refreshing to watch.
I wish anything pre Gordan Ryan
100%
The second half of this match was interesting
The butt scoot and checking for bunions jiu jitsu is boring. That won’t get fans to watch or people in the school doors.
I don’t agree with the last 2 comments. Yes, I miss the early bjj (been following it since the late 90’s), but things evolve. Not a fan of say berimbolo style such as the Miyao bros, etc. I like submissions and DDS does that! Gordon is a killer and so are his teammates. The sport needs someone like Gordon Ryan right now to help elevate since Roger, Marcelo, Kron..they are gone and it has left a void. The reason why people don’t watch Jiujitsu other than Jiujitsu practitioners is because is boring to them. Nothing but stalling and point based nonsense. Can’t ignore 50% of the body like Dean Lister said. Bunion checking is just another way to submit people and it opens up the rest of the game. Look now at how people fear the leg game and leave themselves open to back takes, etc. Makes everyone else come up to speed and elevate there game or they fall by the wayside. I think what gets people in schools are the fancy moves and submissions. In the 90’s and early 2000’s what got people in to train was self-defense. Now it’s a sport so it has to be entertaining to want to join.
Beautiful jiu jitsu on both sides

Jason Rau is a world class competitor. Top 10 in the world, you can’t change my mind
Not gonna get an argument from me 🤷🏻♂️ He’s the real deal
Top 10 at heelhook? Not even, lol.
@@JG-uw3ch Jason Rau's reputation as a top 10 competitor and instructor speaks for itself, whether you agree or not. You're right about heelhooks though. He's probably closer to top 2 or 3 in the world.
Jason Rau has an excellent game.
He certainly does!
The RAM Arts page says Caleb is a black belt, what’s up with that? Did he earn it between the time of this match and today?
This match is from 2017.
Woo hop!
Woo hop to you too! Lol
You should say who is who next time please?
Check the thumbnail Dead Squat Junkies!
the Kimura to triangle was amazing
A thing of beauty!
It was lol
But which ones is the black belt?
Jason Rau - the dude who won.
@@subspectrumbjj Thank you!
Damn this guy beat GSP
His daddy did
That would be his coach lol
@@subspectrumbjj lol I didn’t even see that, thought the competitor’s name was Matt Serra
@@hellotcautiver Hahaha not quite. Jason could probably sub GSP tho.
@@subspectrumbjj damn, dude must be pretty high level then, GSP is no joke on the ground
Me: this should be good.
Fighter: *sits on ground immediately
Welcome to competitive submission grappling!
It bothers me too 😢
Fortunately the black belt won over the brown belt
NOW THAT WAS A BLACK BELT🥋!!! Calmly and smoothly without a struggle figured out his opponent an executed perfectly to the status of a high-level TRUE black belt!! GOOD WORK MATT P.S his name is Matt and he works on the Mat🤔 I think he had an advantage😂😂😂
His name is Jason Rau
Oh hell yeah! A not leg finish! I started yawning when they began with leg attacks.
Kimura -> Triangle 🔥🚀
@@subspectrumbjj Triangle ----> arm bar wasn't it?
Butt scooting leg lock stuff is so lame
Part of the game 🤷🏻♂️
I understand that sitting on the ground at the start of competition may be an appropriate technique in submission grappling / BJJ but, as a lifelong martial artist, it makes me cringe big time. Oh how I long for the Pride days, when the concept of being on the ground with your opponent standing above you resulted in the correct and appropriate response of a face stomp (the good days of Wanderlei Silva, Ricardo Arona, Shogun and the rest of the face stompers).
Obviously, all combative competition, by its very nature limits the martial components to make the competition safer and allow more people to be involved. At the same time, creating artificial incentives to do something you would never do on the street seems really arbitrary.
This type of grappling will always be nothing more than a laughing stock because they allow people to scoot around on their butt...good luck
And good luck to you!
lol I’m pretty sure it’s extremely popular the world doesn’t begin and end with your dumb shitty opinions have fun doing whatever it is you do
Bro. You are laughable.
Yes I'm a 6 year old and that's my come back.
agreed, i love JJ but everytime someone sits down do fight i roll my eyes
Here is judo guy, wasn't so confident to try those fancy throws and instead jump for guard lol
