I agree on no brainer on this one. And if anyone prefers 440C to D2, you can get the original 440C base model for $21, which is just an excellent price for a great knife. I was surprised at how nice the action is. You can do so much worse in this price range that this is an easy recommendation for someone who wants a simple, good, very-budget knife.
Purely going off price, I bought a Penguine just to have something cheap I could use for practicing my sharpening skills/blade modifying. I had absolutely no expectations for that knife. I assumed that it would ultimately just end up as scrap metal. However once I opened the box and laid eyes on it for the first time, I was shocked at how nice it was. Everything from the micarta, the bladeshape and the action were incredible. It's the only time I have ever come across a knife that made me genuinely questioned how a knife company was able to produce something with this level of quality for such a low price. Simply amazing
I have the QSP Penguin because of your review. It is a well made knife for the money. I generally steer clear of Chinese knives but can appreciate good value when I see it. I bought QSP Penguins for my two sons after my experience with the knife.
I've never owned a 200 dollar knife or a custom, I'm mostly in the production side of purchasing, and from the 100 or so knives I've owned, this is my all time favorite. I bought it as a work knife, but for $28 the fit feel and finish of this knife it became my non work EDC, it's my steak, fruit and food knife. It replaced my sicilian pocket knives and opinels and victorinox I usually carry when walking around. My all time favorite. Alot of you guys look for things that most of us don't look for bc you all own expensive and large collections, but for the average joe looking for work and cheese knives, you can't go wrong with this.
All of us came from a time in our lives where we were buying less expensive knives. There's only one fact here: if you choose to climb the ladder, you will find things you didn't know you cared about. If you don't, you'll never have to worry about it. It's the way of the road.
@@metal_complex maybe. I refuse to spend 350 for a knife that stays in its packaging. I went down the road with pool cues, I owned $3500 dollar cues, $1500 cues, $2000 dollar cues, but I played with a $300 cue. Couldn't imagine my custom Titleist Tascarella conversion gettong knicked, I would get the sweats. Lol.
@@metal_complex you're a brave man. I'm getting sweaty palms thinking of you using a $1500 knife. But ultimately you're right, they're tools meant to be used. I'm just cheap
I like seeing a well designed knife produced with good materials and detailed finishes for affordable prices. Thanks for the review. Another knife I'm going to have to check out myself. Hope you had a great Christmas and were able to relax and enjoy with your loved ones. Take care and see you on the next video!
I just ordered this knife due to the price. I recently lost 2 of my nice EDC knives and I have no idea where I may have placed them, so I ordered this little knife for the interim. I am so happy you gave a good review on it. I purchased it quickly, so I did not have time or the money to mess around. Thanks. I feel a bit better now. Cheers!😊
I have the denim micarta, purchased for like $22 new in my country. I would like to get the titanium penguin next. I was looking for the penguin in denim but ended up with the parrot. I love both when trying them out in the store.
Great knife for the money, red micarta the way to go and I replaced the pocket clip with a civivi deep clip making it better. Very comfortable in the hand especially if you like the rat 2.
Ordered it lol, at the moment I just have autos and spring assists so I thought I should grab a manual. This one seems like an amazing one for the price!
I really wish they just made the thumb studs flat, and attached with a screw so it's possible to put on after market ones. I really dislike thumb studs with those nubs on top that looks like a glassbreaker on a cheap knife (as they can be sharp). Perhaps I just got really unlucky with my Penguin. But when studs is the only opening mechanism, I wish they put more effort into the studs.
Now this is what I call an equivalent to my SOG otfs. The SOG is the only one I could scale this one building with until the QSP PARROT, then the Oknife Parrot, then I realized I could fly with only those 2 knives due to the steel equivalency of the 2, times (x) the knife name =. I'll be trying to fly later today. Disclaimer: I don't own any sog otfs, QSP PARROT, and the olight oknife Parrot came with my oknife olight flashlight. I did not try to fly but I do scale buildings with only the best of knives
Ironically I picked this knife up at a local shop in red micarta yesterday. Hilariously I pulled my mini griptillian out and the parrot had better action
depends whether you're swimming or flying. I have 4 penguins and 1 parrot. I like them all but I would recommend the penguin. there are more steel and scale options with that model.
My penguin has fantastic action I mean amazing on washers. Also. The older Kizer begleiters are the same way. And neither my small or big has the action my penguin does
AlL budget brands, even the upper tier stuff have terrible edges , I reprofile every single one. Inconsistent and steep edge angles are the major issues on them, you can get a sharp edge at 30° per side and if it is thick behind edge it gets worse.....buuut no thanks and I do not mind reprofiling.

The lack of M390 and titanium at this price point ruins it for me. JK ;-)
😂
If that didn't do it the fact that it's not a frame lock flipper definitely makes it worthless.
No mirror polished edge; must be overpriced. Adding to the banter
🤣
This comment will be great in a few years when people will be complaining about m390 like its Chinese d2

I remember buying a upgraded version of a expensive knife to get the D2 "super" steel. Now it's on 20 to 30 dollar knives. Salad days.

I remember saying that too. 10 years ago 😉
I remember thinking I'd never even touch a $300 knife outside of the packaging. Now I regularly use a $1500 Rockstead. The ladder is mysterious

Recently bought this knife in jade g-10, absolutely love it and you truly can’t beat the price to quality ratio 👍
How is the jade?
You still have it? It's still holding up

I bought the QSP Parrot in denim micarta - it’s a favorite of mine.
The titanium frame lock penguin is beautiful
Parrot, Pelican, and Penquin are on my new years hit list lol. Your videos are pushing my time table up LOL
I have two of these and I love them.

Picking up one of these in Jade next payday. Will be my first QSP.
Just got the jean micarta one for xmas! Very happy with the quality for the price, but i agree that the scales feel just a hair too thick
Ordered it lol, at the moment I just have autos and spring assists so I thought I should grab a manual. This one seems like an amazing one for the price!
The Civivi milled titanium pocket clip fits!!👍👍
I have to get one of these. I love the feel and sound of the pelican on washers, and this one sounds similar in your video. Thanks!
Now that's a knife I can easily afford & like at the same time. Good review that was frank about the very few cons.
I picked one up with jade G10 for $22. Can’t beat it.

Guess you'll have to break out the file and knock em down 🤔
stone em down with a dark grey spyderco sharpmaker carbide stick
Wow! Value is superb! I’ll buy one.

Great review, lots of good detailed information, thank you!
This knife looks really good in the denim micarta
Ironically I picked this knife up at a local shop in red micarta yesterday. Hilariously I pulled my mini griptillian out and the parrot had better action
Qsp totally took civivi's spot as budget kings, in my eyes.
considering they cost half and both using d2 hard to say no to qsp
Got my for $23 a while back. Great knife for the price.
Hey MC, if you had to choose 1, would it be the PARROT or RAT 2? THANKS
If she is even half as good as the Penguin, she is a gem.
Is there room for this, in a niche dominated by the Zancudo and Rat 2? Or is the cost-saving what this is all about?
Is the penguin way better?
I’m wondering if the pocket clip from the Penguin would fit on the Parrot??? Looks like it may… wanna check it out and reply, Please?
Great find.
I bought one in g10, what a wicked blade for work! At that price point it's not painful to abuse it a bit lmao
Final bevel looks nicer than my $150 benchmade
Awesome price!!!
It should be known that one of the civivi deep carry clips is compatible with this knife, if anyone wants I can link which one it is
can you tell me which one is better, the QSP Penguin or QSP Parrot. im struggling to choose between this two because i like both
The penguin has a thicker blade. You can use it for work.
@@MrKinghumanwow thx for the comment I will keep that in mind

Looks like a good one to put in the glove box. 👍
That reminds me of a Sanranmu Blade ....
Stuck between this and cjrb ria
just got one a whole lotta knife for the money 🦉
My penguin has fantastic action I mean amazing on washers. Also. The older Kizer begleiters are the same way. And neither my small or big has the action my penguin does
WOW a non coated d2... finally
Is this a Parrot or Pelican?
Parrot. I might have said Pelican somewhere by mistake.

Hey what’s up man
Now a knife in my Price Range lol

Parrot, not pelican lol
Get that gross finger outta here! 😂
The washers are copper Not phosorus bronze. If you don't know the difference then you shouldn't be reviewing knives.
