There’s a guy that does that mod that had a TH-cam channel and maybe still does. I’ve forgotten his name and his channels name. Anybody out there that could remind me of where to find him?
Number 5 hands down, for a number of reasons. Its not only subjectively to my liking but also the most labor intensive and origional mod on the list and in my opinion the most integrated and complex aesthically. So it gets the winning vote from me at every level of comparison. That isn't to say the other mods were poorly done or "not proper mods", they just weren't on the same level in my opinion.
@@flowers.outdoors7122 Hey. You have serious skill and great attention to detail and aesthetics. If you ever did ever decide to offer your services I have no doubts that you would get great business. Best of luck in the contest, you seem to be a lot of peoples favorite so far. Take care.
#5. But if people can enter knives others have modded for them does that open entries to knives modded by the manufacturer? I guess everyone with an Olamic can enter too.
I personally find it very appealing too, but I was wondering what was left from the orignal 940, except the locking mechanism? Is that still a modded 940 at this point, or just something else?
@@colombebeau well, basically the lock and liners so you can say the ,,heart" of a knife remained 🙂. And handle profile is unchanged, just different material. I think it's 940 we all love.
I agree with a lot of people. #5 is the winner imo. Its definitely cool to see something original. Instead of someone just throwing some aftermarket stuff on it. I would love to have the sabenza though.
#5. That was a tough pick, I was really set on the Spydie Sebenza until the Proponent came up. The level of modification is off the charts! I’d use that color theme on a number of knives if I could, gorgeous
My heart says #1 I want a Smock so bad, but they are very hard to find as they are out of production. But, my vote is #5 because if that was all done by the person submitting it, that adds a whole new level of impressiveness as they didn't just buy aftermarket parts and add them.
#5 looks great and is my favorite looking mod of the bunch. #3 isn't even the same knife anymore imo. Since nothing but the Axis lock is left from the original, I consider it a brand new separate knife instead of a mod since you could take all the original pieces and baiscally assemble the full knife back from them. But #5 is using the original parts just modified and that's what I consider a real mod and more true to the nature of this.
#3 the 940 wins my vote. That reblade is absolutely stunning… and the fact that the body screws and backspacers were completely replaced and changed just takes it up a level.
My choice goes for # 1 ( NUMBER ONE ) Spyderco Smock. All look great. But I'd give second and third place to the Small Sebenza and the Andrew Demko respectively.
For EDC, the Smock all the way - For a showpiece, the Mini Proponent. I will say that the latter certainly LOOKS like the type of work done by "Way Of Knife" but I also know there are people capable of doing their own mods themselves, so my final vote goes to the Mini Proponent. (btw - I have mildy modded my AD20.5, but it's just a subtle semi-polish to the blade - you still can see the tumbled/stonewashed look, it's just shinier - and I installed RGT Black Canvas Micarta scales - I may get a clip, but I won't go as deep carry as the one shown here - I feel it ruins the lines of the knife... still debating that one!)
@@stratobungle not offended man, just clarifying. Guess I should have clarified in the email I sent Metal Complex. I just assumed we had to do all them mods ourselves for this video series, didn’t realize that we could send stuff in that other people did.
@@flowers.outdoors7122 It's all good. I am about to go down the rabbit hole myself, bought a 1 foot length of 1/8" x 2" C360 Brass Flat Bar stock to practice using files and a rotary tool on to alter the finish. If and when I get good at it, I'll attack my Flytanium smooth brass scales for my factory 2nd Spydie Manix 2 XL. It's already got a Flytanium brass ball cage and a ceramic ball, and a MXG titanium deep carry clip, and I've distressed the factory DLC blade finish. I may do filework on the back of the blade after practicing on an old worn out CRKT M16 as well. Fingers crossed, hoping to have a nice unique working knife when finished! Happy New Year!
#2. I bought my husband a Large Sebenza 31 for Christmas and spent most of the summer really learning a lot about knives in general and CRK Knives in particular. Seeing the level of alteration to the Knife and the work that goes into doing, really makes it the most interesting of the lot.
I choose the 940; I’ve always been a sucker for that knife (it was my first “good” knife) and the re blade friggin’ awesome and not something i would have thought of. On the flip side, my least favorite is the artisan cutlery; i just don’t find it aesthetically pleasing in any way unfortunately
I love the sebenza with the spydiehole, something I will have to get and do, but I am gonna go with number 5 with the battle scars. That is one badass looking blade!!!
This is a tough one, the sebenza is definitely the one I'd carry myself as it's more my style, and that 940 is amazing, but I think I'm going to have to vote for #5 just for the sake of how much work has to go into that modification.
For me, it's NUMBER 5! It might be good if you went briefly through the five knives so people could get one more look at them without having to rewind the video. Just a suggestion.
Even though I don't have any modified knives anymore, please do more of these... Maybe it doesn't have to be contest of some sort. Seeing other people's stuff and what they've done is super neato!
#2. I'm a sucker for simplicity and cleanliness. I would've voted for three, though, if only there was a picture of it folded up. I don't like the look of a regular 940 which makes three so interesting, but without the folded up shot, I couldn't move forward with it.
If I was going to pick for myself, I’d probably pick #2, but just the shear amount of mods and how detailed it is I think you have to go with #5. That proponent looks like a movie prop from Indiana Jones or something 😳
My vote is for #5 as it turned an otherwise uninteresting knife into something very interesting. Awesome job making it look like a battle scarred relic 👍
Personally I have not had the chance to modify any in my collection because I am just getting started collecting. I love them all but the one the really caught my attention was number 1. I have not see any knife like that. I need to look more into spider co.
I have a question So if i buy a $200 knife then add a set of $150 scales and $50 dollar screws does that make my knife worth $400 I understand the joys of modding and the majority of us have no intentions of selling them but it was a question i was asked and didnt have a good answer
I was torn between #3 and #5, because so much work clearly went into both. But I have to give it to #5 for the sheer creativity and uniqueness. Super cool designs and work done there while keeping the original knife and blade as well.

Oh wow, I was featured 🙌🏼 so cool. Thank you for picking me and for doing something so fun. I love seeing all this creativity. 🙏🏼🍻
Good luck man! Awesome knife!
Thank you 🙏🏼, going to be tough to beat that Benchmade and Artisan lol 😂
@@dailygearguide appreciate the compliment man, gonna be tough to beat all of them💯
That #2 small 21 is so cool!
I might be a little biased because its mine, but super glad to be featured!

That Mini Proponent definitely is the coolest!! Mad Max knife!
#5 Artisan has my vote. So unique and so unexpected. So much different than anything else.
That is absolutely awesome.
#2 for me it's just so clean. The smock is beautiful as well.
#2 Easily is top choice for me but mad respect for #5 for creativity.
Definitely the Smock. Looks amazing!

#5 for sure. The others are awesome, but that Artisan mini proponent was done with such amazing detail.
Appreciate the compliment💯
@@flowers.outdoors7122 you do custom work for other people?
@@jamesirwin5887 yes, I do.
that proponent is sick and I like the ad20.5

#5 for sure. Took a pretty blah stock blade and made it super cool. Well done.
#5. Those mods make the Mini Proponent a truly interesting knife. I am digging that Spydie hole Sebenza though.
I’m also modding my 20.5, I went with RGT burlap micarta scales and obviously snagged a lynch clip, super excited for those parts to come in
#5 Mini Proponent wins for sure for self custom work that looks amazing
Love that smock, but #3 with the re-blade is hotness. I NEED to know the blade metal!
#5, that's awesome. All of the mods were great.
My vote is for number 5. A lot of well thought work went into this knife that really enhanced the vibe.
Means a lot to have your vote brother! Truly a fantastic knife design🔥🖤
#5. A lot of heart and soul (and fun) went into that one.
Number one, beautiful Smock! Thanks MC!
#5... What an absurd amount of custom work. This video did make me order a deep carry clip for my AD20.5 though lol
Number 1 is sick! Makes my modified Smock look plain Jane. 🤘
I'll always love the original 940, but that re-blade is fantastic! Definitely wins my vote.
The blades are Extremely hard to buy. Like a few dozen made a year.

#1 Spyderco Smock.
Because I'm partial to large folders, and this one is beautifully done. 🤩
#3 the 940 wins my vote. That reblade is absolutely stunning… and the fact that the body screws and backspacers were completely replaced and changed just takes it up a level.
That Artisan Mini Proponent was a badass bastard man.
#1 smock is so freakn badazz. Love the scales and color 👍
#1 Spyderco Smock hands down!!!!!!
#5 I love the genuine Proponent and I love this modded one 🤩 Great job 👌
#5 gets my vote. One thing that held me back on the Proponents is blade finishes offered. This is awesome and creative.
#5 Artisan. Its just badass. Love it.
It’s gonna be nr5 for me. What a beast
Nice 1st set of knives!
I would pick #5 on this one.
What do you think is a good knife to customize. I was thinking of starting a new project but do not know what knife I should choose to customize.
The Para 3, pm2, and Bugout have an astronomical amount of options for customization
# 5 the battle Scar proponent is absolutely awesome its one of my favorites
