It’s nice to see his aspirations are really high which means the standards expected from Players will be at the highest they’ve had with the usmnt. I’m just very concerned that considering how little time we have and the players at his disposal, with his preferred 4-2-3-1 we will comfortably beat the minnows but really struggle against any good opposition. I don’t think we have the talent to pull off upsets setting up in a way where we go toe to toe with the worlds best and I don’t think Poch will adapt to a “bunkering” formation that would maximize our chances of pulling off an upset.
I think Poch might be on the pipe too if he thinks he can play expansive football out from the back with this team. International football is very different to club and he needs to build on the strengths of this team which are speed and stamina, not playing football. If its good enough for teams like France with the quality players Deschamps has its surely good enough for the US.
The culture thing reminds me of the Cowboys over here in Dallas. All the players “love the culture” cuz everyone’s buddies and it’s comfy. Long as Jerry Jones likes the guy, there’s really no pressure (inside the building) to perform. Jobs are safe and paydays are gonna keep rolling in. It seems to me like that’s what the USMNT guys meant when they said they liked the culture. There was no pressure at all to perform or compete cuz they were GGG’s guys so, yeah for them it was super easy.
Here's the thing about the WC in 2026: We don't know who we'll get in the round of 32 or 16, so to say how far we should go is impossible. But, we will be in pot 1 as hosts so our group should suck and we should win it as the home side. So I'd start there as an expectation. If we win our group, we can play just about anyone as some teams underperform in the group stages so we could be playing some random team ranked between 30th-50th who squeaked out of their group, or we could play someone who finished unexpectedly lower than they should like France who should kick our ass. We also don't know what the injury situation is going to be. If we have the same level of injuries then as we do now, or if additionally, Pulisic is injured, then we're screwed. 6 of our best players were injured for this camp. But assuming we're at reasonably full health, we should win our group. We should then, since we're at home, beat anyone ranked at or below our level in the round of 32 and should give a team ranked higher than us a run for their money - ie: not get spanked by the Netherlands like we were (even if we lose, we should actually look like we belong at the tournament) and we definitely should not be losing to a Panama-level team. And then the same for every game after that, as far as we go.

Thats fair. I see people already expecting to reach the wc qtrs without even seeing how the team progresses and what if they face Germany or France in the last 32. Are they likely to win that? A lot depends on if they qualify from the group and in which place. If you finish second for example you face the winner of another group in the last 32.
Finally! New coach, new culture, new players, new hope, new everything. It took way too long but its great to see this USMNT heading in a new direction. American soccer is exciting again and I am so happy that Gregg Berhalter is no longer leading it. Its not too late to get the most out of this team and what a team we have. Lets go USA in 2024!

As a Canadian I actually hope for the best. A competitive CONCACAF benefits us all. Do I think Pochettino's assignment is the cure all for the current US woes... I'm not sure. Maybe? Marsch has been really good for Canada so far, but I don't think it was just Marsch becoming the coach for the situation to change as much as it has. The Canadian team has a belief they can win. They get play time in the leagues they play domestically. They have fight and grit - and they need to, as they are not yet seen as a top dog in the region by many - even if on paper they're doing well. They still want silverware. Something Mexico and the US have in spades. Back to the original point. Pochettino cannot hurt. He has pedigree. I do think that the player pool has to do some inner reflection though. All this talk about "culture" and "belief" is all well and good, and you certainly have to have a real dedication to effort and team spirt. But go up and down our roster, player by player, position by position, and there is one word that applies to virtually everybody in this pool from the A team starters through the bench. And that word is "inconsistency" -- specifically, inconsistency in performance. With every top player in any team, you can always count on such a player to have IMPACT. They make no mistakes or make so few that it never hurts the team. They deliver for the team in moments where they are involved when it really counts. You never say about such players -- this guy is just taking up space, playing a position with nothing to show. Such players either have GREAT games, with reasonable frequency, or good/strong games where their quality stands out, even though their impact may not be direct. Who is like this in our pool? Who is our Declan Rice, our Martin Odegaard, our Saliba, our Anthony Gordon, our James Maddison? Christian Pulisic should be a player at this level, and he's almost there, but not totally. Robinson?? His ability to do that was on full display with Chelsea toward the end of last year. But that sort of maneuvering can take you just so far. I guess we will see, but get ready to be disappointed.
Pulisic's comment on being willing to take a chance - much wrong with Klinsman era, but he did teach players to go for it. Need to free rather than micromanage this team on the field.
If this last camp wasn’t bad enough this weekend may have been our worst output abroad in years. I think on Saturday we had 1 player with a goal involvement. Has any of our players progressed since the World Cup?
I think Reem should be kept in the roster on the bench for (1) when a center back substitute is needed in the last 10-20 minutes, and (2) experience / teaching younger players / locker room leadership.
I think Jedi Robinson has a chance to be a leader/Captain. Richards has that potential. I honestly liked Richards getting the Captain band vs NZ. He may not have been great at it. But i also dont think anyone gave him the opportunity before. He can grow from the chance. Its a signal for him to know he is now viewed to take on new responsibilities and to embrace it. @@andrewsmith9174We cannot afford to underestimate any team. There is a long list of minnows who have snuck up on us. Play every game with a chip on the shoulder.
World Cup 2026 usmnt performance: Fantasy, win the final. Ideally, get 2nd or 3rd(semis). Possibly but not likely, quarters. Realistically, round of 16. Pochettino will need a full cycle to do anything huge with the usmnt. Until the usmnt grows some balls and tenacity nothing will change.
GB had to go. However, what killed him was... the Reynas. Not talking about the controversy directly, but after that GB was a changed man. He effectively neutered his entire team. No fight, no attitude, nothing. When he was gone- the team was in limbo.no anchors, no direction, same attitude, same style of play, which is why we lost to Canada and tied NZ. Pochettino should bring a new attitude and accountability. New style and toughness. Since he learned under Bielsa, this team will be tough and play hard. Every team takes on the character of the coach. Now we got a shot.
Did pochettino win anything important with mbappe, neymar and messi? So how do you all expect him to win anything with these babied, idolized and definately overhyped players lets be real
Well, after the last several terrible matches played, you would sure be making giant leaps, if you forecasted that the U.S. would suddenly win the Nations League & Gold cup. If they beat Canada, Mexico, Jamaica & Panama, they will have already made a huge improvement & the U.S. fans will be thrilled. They will not have to win Friendlies versus big European teams in 2026, as they only have to prove that they are improving. Then if the U.S. only gets out of the 1st round, the fans will not be thrilled; but if we can look at their history, the media & fans will be satisfied that they got to the 2nd round; but having seen the team constantly improving, they will give Pochettino a break, with the hope that the program will keep getting better.
What about Aaronson’s great run from an off-balance position at midfield past 2 opponents to 40 yards out, only stopped by a yellow card foul from behind.
I agree. He never gets credit for anything, even the fact that he's not getting knocked down as much as he did 2 years ago. He has that bad rap, so now each time he falls, it sticks out like a sore thumb, even though every player hits the dirt multiple times per game. He still has incredible passing and is great with the ball. The only current USMNT player who has better through balls into the box is Gio. I think he's currently better at it than Christian and Tillman, although Tillman has potential.
Bring back John Anthony Brooks and Julian Green and make them leaders, they don't have to be starters for us but ppl who have been around for a while and are from the Clint Dempsey and Tim Howard eras.
While I'm not ready to yet, at what point do we move on from Gio? He's, apparently, hurt again... That's why he fell off at Dortmund... He was always hurt... He's hurt again while also barely playing... This cannot continue. Gio can't just expect to get on the roster just because... At some point.... Could think about Adams as well, the team has to move on from certain players who don't seem like they are going to fulfill their potential...
I think we move on from Gio once his talent or performances for the NT begin to decline, or until another talented CAM comes around. It’s much easier to move on Adam.
@@nerychristian Adams is a baller and makes our central defenders look better. There's a reason Leeds paid 20 million for him and he was one of their best players in the premier league year - unfortunately, he was injured, unfortunately much of the rest of the team sucked, and unfortunately, he's still injured. But what's this talk about moving on? Why? We play someone else when they're injured. That's what you do. If someone is better and they come back from injury, then what does moving on even mean? Gio and Tyler are still young. There's no moving on from their talent just because they're injured. We just keep going forward and deal with the facts on the ground.
20:27 day 1: he needs to get their attitude changed. I expect this in October window. We seen this with the women when Emma came in. The. The following windows up to the gold cup work on who his starters are as well as tactics. Then we can judge everything after the gold cup is over. I hope they get to expand it to add 2 teams from the other confederations. A normal gold cup wont really push us enough.
He can, but unfortunately i dont think he can do it in one cycle. Hes been given a burned out pile of rubble with a few jewels sirviving the fire, and 18 months to turn it into a juggernaut. And im not even sure Pep Guardiola could fix the issues with this team in time.
Maybe Poch needs to bring through at least one player from the MLS who is a decent player, but primarily for his leadership qualities. There surely has to be an American who has the attributes needed to lead a team if there are currently none in your national team. Are there any names that fit the bill?
My hope for 2026 making a deep run into the World Cup and pulling off a big upset of a European/South American giant. Upsetting Spain/Argentina for ex.
i disagree on the tyler adams a**kisser take. as much as leeds fans dont want to hear it, we saw him push his team and demand more during his time at leeds. I do agree that the reason he doesn't act that way with the national team is because of the culture gregg created.
I don't see why he says that either. Because he diffused the Iranian reporter who through a bitch fit? He handled it like a modern pro. Tyler is an enforcer and our team always looks better with him in it. He's very consistent and he's solid defensively. He's also fiery. He's the rightful captain. We just need a run of good health.
Without the right team culture, tactics are irrelevant. The USMNT will have to find some intestinal fortitude and toughness before they do too much else.
Change the attitude of the coach being liked by the players and being their friend. He is the coach and should get their respect like him or not. If the player doesn’t perform in a game or practice he doesn’t play until he shows he’s ready to play hard . If a player is not in shape to play, he should not play until he’s in game shape. The player need to come prepared to work their butt off all the time. No lackadaisical attitude.
I think that the major problem that Pochettino and the USMNT have now is the lack of time. Poch will have the guys for 3 or 4 trainings a few times and then is World cup. Copa America was the moment to create something. I think you are out of time now.
You can’t be setting such expectations before he’s had time with the players snd know who you’re facing at the wc. What if you end up in a group of death or play France or Germany in the last 32 game. Are you realistically likely to progress? Forget even those teams, are you likely to best say a Georgia after the way they performed at the Euro’s?
@@1972dsrai Agree, my statement is more quarterfinal all things being equal. Still dreaming of 02 - group of death and reached quarters where we outplayed Germany and lost 1-0.
Issue #1 there is no Patron. Adam’s is not it. Issue #2 US Soccer’s only motivation is to promote MLS. It goes back to before 2018 with head coaches and MLS player selection. I feel Poch is a panic hire. Maybe a world class coach but not sure if he is the answer.
I don't get your comment. This summer in Copa American, all starters played in Europe, and there are only a few MLS players on the entire squad. Canada has more MLS starters on their squad than ours and are doing better this summer. Part of our problem, I think, is that most of this USMNT plays in Europe and are entitled because they think they have "made it" in the big time already, and have lost their grit. At this point, I would rather see a few more hungry scrappy mls players and see us playing with more grit and a chip on our shoulders, like we used to.
All I can say this is not funny. The mentality of the folks in the US needs to change. If you don’t believe you will not achieve. And if you do not achieve, get pissed. That’s how it works in Europe.
I'm glad Gregg is gone, and the USA fanbase is all on the same page. His management of the NL and Copa were bad, but it was also a distraction. These players are not as good as we thought they would be 3-4 years ago when they first broke unto the senior squad. They are not special, they are not elite, they are not "Golden". Poch is a good selection because he can get more out of theae players than the sum of their parts
Writing this comment at 20.24 of the program, before you identify who went up and down. Up Marlon Fossey and Aidan Morris. Down Yunus Musah and Johnny Cardoso
We already lost this generation maybe the next one will be with different kind of mine pochettino is not a magician. He cannot do nothing better because the play what we have are so horrible. The players have two left foot.
I see us qualifying for the 2026 World Cup! 🙉 With the hedge fund billiobaires and home depot NFL ownerrunning US soccer, we are never going to compete for the WC. Their mentality for everything is pay to play. The USSF on the men’s side is like the Boy Scouts of America - no inner city kids allowed in the top youth teams. If you can claw your way in Europe, then you’ll get a look. But we want youth players who can pay to play. If you can’t pay, soccer is not a welfare sport……that is their attitude and no wonder youth player numbers are falling! Make the game affordable again. Hog wash on a system that gives scholarships to those they deem worthy!
Although this would be amazing if it happened… it would take a shit ton of luck and injuries of star players on the other teams or red cards.. it would be an absurd run for sure
I think Reem should be kept in the roster on the bench for (1) when a center back substitute is needed in the last 10-20 minutes, and (2) experience / teaching younger players / locker room leadership.
I second this.. he isn’t physically the best but his understanding of positioning and understanding of the game could be very valuable for the younger cbs. I’d rather give him a spot than someone who wouldn’t even play.
Thoughts on Pochettino’s press conference? Any takeaways?
US Soccer needs better tech. Unbelievable that we couldn't hear the opening statement.

We hope that our best players can shift their mentality
I’m delusional, so semi finals is the minimum. However, we need a strong goalkeeper, strong striker and a creative player.
First time I heard that our goal and success for the 2026 World Cup is to WIN. Everyone should believe that. The fans, the players and the coaches.
Did pochettino win anything important with mbappe, neymar and messi? So how do you all expect him to win anything with these babied, idolized and definately overhyped players lets be real
Thanks
Good show Tac.
EDIT: But I don't agree with you about Tyler Adams. The rest of it is all fair.
Needs to get Taty Castellanos, Luca Koleosho, Diego Koachin, also needs to give the young bucks back and see if he can salvage John Brooks.
@@Deeznutz29828It will be sad if we are still relying on Adams next year
@@nerychristian Adams is a baller and makes our central defenders look better.
Who’s better? We need a creative 10 and we don’t have any other better options.

I think he can do it and fix Our Beautiful USA Men Team Dear Filippo.🙏❤🤍💙💯
Tim Weah saved USSoccer! Lol😂
What happened with John Brooks?

He needs to get set clear expectations with the players while fixing the tactical setup.
Honestly if he can get the best out of them, if the stars align, i can see them making it to semis
Dest stop went up…
He can, but unfortunately i dont think he can do it in one cycle.
Beyond repair IMO. He needs two cycles probably gets maybe 1
My hope for 2026 making a deep run into the World Cup and pulling off a big upset of a European/South American giant. Upsetting Spain/Argentina for ex.
If Morocco can reach the semi so can the US with proper coaching and the players giving 200%
Oh we got two years! I though we only had one left before the WC!
Right. It felt like that because of the Copa. I was thinking the same thing last year.
Regarding the fullback discussion - by the time Reem is gone, Jalen Neal is likely to have matured into that spot.

i disagree on the tyler adams a**kisser take. as much as leeds fans dont want to hear it, we saw him push his team and demand more during his time at leeds.
Aaronson's parents should have had him play American football, running back
Without the right team culture, tactics are irrelevant. The USMNT will have to find some intestinal fortitude and toughness before they do too much else.
Johnny on the bench in today’s game.
He hasn’t played much this season. Seems Betis prefer Roca over him
Why was jordan pefok never given another chance?
% chance that Poch calls in Richie Ledezma as a wingback?
Change the attitude of the coach being liked by the players and being their friend.
He is the coach and should get their respect like him or not.
If the player doesn’t perform in a game or
practice he doesn’t play until he shows he’s ready to play hard .
If a player is not in shape to play, he should not play until he’s in game shape.
The player need to come prepared to work their butt off all the time. No lackadaisical attitude.
Round 16
Pochettino won’t be able to do some Argentinian magic on these players
poch will make us better.
Who besides Pulisic and Robinson are playing regularly at top clubs and playing well?
Poch needs to start from ground zero and assess, assess, assess.
Tillman, Dest, and Cardoso as well?
Tessman?
@@nerychristian bro said tessmann
Just Scalley @ M'Gladbagch.
I think that the major problem that Pochettino and the USMNT have now is the lack of time. Poch will have the guys for 3 or 4 trainings a few times and then is World cup.
Copa America was the moment to create something. I think you are out of time now.
Realistic expectation: quarterfinal ... if Poch can work his magic.
True... Quarterfinals of the Nation's League
@@nerychristian And QF of Gold Cup.
Tilman was terrible. OMG.
Will he go 3 at the back???
No.
Down Yunus Musah and Johnny Cardoso
win two knock out matches
We already lost this generation maybe the next one will be with different kind of mine pochettino is not a magician. He cannot do nothing better because the play what we have are so horrible. The players have two left foot.
I see us qualifying for the 2026 World Cup! 🙉
With the hedge fund billiobaires and home depot NFL ownerrunning US soccer, we are never going to compete for the WC.

Depending on the matchups final 4 but realistically would be great with a quarterfinal.
huge mistake on the part of US Soccer hiring someone with absolutely no experience managing a non-clubs team.
I third this. I couldn't agree more.
I’m delusional, so semi finals is the minimum. However, we need a strong goalkeeper, strong striker and a creative player.
