Balogun has to gain, right? If Poch makes the team more potent offensively, and Balo is the guy up top getting more chances, it seems like he would necessarily benefit.
@@mattbrown4269 I would think at the very least Balogun will feel more comfortable with Poch's system. Balogun didn't really look comfortable with Berhalter's system.
Great video. As for some people's concern that Poch has no international managerial experience, well... Klopp doesn't either... yet everyone said Klopp was the dream hire. Hopefully being a player for Argentina gives him some experience to how it works (or what could be improved)... 🙏
"International experience" no but he's had lots of cup success, which shows he's able to game plan specific opponents and coach with a killer instinct. Based on interviews I've seen of him he sounds like he is fully aware of the time it takes to teach the systems he's used at clubs, so I'm confident he's already adapted his coaching philosophy
It's important to remember that with the new World Cup format there's a round of 32 then 16 then quarterfinals. I don't see the USMNT making it to the 6th game.
If we brought in Thierry Henry in as a striker coach to help Balogun’s confidence and clinical finishing, we might even go further than that. So much potential!
So sick of US trying to define success as making it out of the group, Quarter finals, blah blah blah. We should enter EVERY tourney with the intent and planning to win. Period. Are the odds overwhelmingly against us to win WC? Absolutely. Is it likely we will win WC anytime soon. Prob not. But we need to throw away the "get out of the group mindset" and play to win.
I wouldn't be surprised if, to make up for the CB and GK deficiencies playing out of the back, he plays Adams as more of a sweeper DM with Gio Reyna playing the pivot role in transition before pushing up the pitch in possession to a mkre natural 10 and Adams taking his place. So the formation would act as a 4-2-3-1 but on paper would look more like a defensive 4-3-3 (I think it's the 4-3-3(2) in fifa)
Tyler keeps getting injured and Weston is about 20lbs overweight to play a role for a poch midfield. It’s time to move on from Tyler if he gets injured again after this one. Poch won’t want the job after the World Cup and we can’t mess up a good chance. They really need to be looking at all the midfield options
Until Reyna gets a place to play meaningful minutes, and truly shows he can deliver I wouldn’t start him. Weston McKinney is going to have to show himself to be a serious professional to get himself back into a starting lineup. Haji Wright deserves to get a start or two as long as he stays healthy and continues to deliver for Coventry.
people were trashing Malik Tillman for even starting before they trashed him for his first half performance against Jamaica in the NL semifinals. But honestly, you cannot blame Berhalter for starting him over Reyna since Malik was getting the reps and minutes at club level
Idea I keep playing with, and this applies to better teams we will see in the World Cup. Take the the lineup and formation you described, but remove the striker in favor of a central defensive mid. Balogun and Pulisic play as inverted wingers, getting fed by Gio or Tillman. Two box to box guys that help a little more on the attack, probably Mckennie and Musah, then either Adams or Johnny back to cover up deficiencies in our center backs. That extra mid will allow our wingers to provide width up on attack, which I think plays to their strengths. What do you think?
I'm glad we finally have a coach that values the central attacking playmaker position. Coffee and having a restroom nearby? Can't relate on that one. lol
Knowing that our CB are in crisis, what is the status or what happen to Erik Palmer-Brown? I remembered he was relevant few years ago, but has fallen off the radar when he decided to play in the Greek League.
Nothing new. We have never had a rock solid CB duo. Omar Gonzalez and Geoff Cameron? Balboa and Lalas? Zimmerman and Robinson? If it were me I'd call in Trusty and Richards to play together every time they are available.
Haji Wright is an outside forward, and you're proposing him as a left win in a position that's supposed to be for more 10-style attacking midfielders or just wingers. Haji plays through the middle. Your lineups are all designed around your sacred cow Balogun playing the 9 over the more deserving strikers. Pepi & Haji are very good. Pepi is great in combination play & in his finishing, plus he generates more chances. Haji we know is very direct & complete.
More deserving? How so? How many goals did Pepi and Haji score in Copa again? Pepi missed some serious howlers when he got the chance and Haji cannot play with his back to goal -a sign of a true winger.
You don’t think, after what you talked about regarding high engine pressing players being favored by Pochettino, you don’t think that Aaronson would get a boost or be more favored under Pochettino than he was under Bershitter? Also, Aaronson started as a 10 today for Leeds and scored the opening goal in the 24th minute. He actually looked really good at the 10. In another note, I love Tillman, he’s one of my favorite USMNT players and think he will thrive at the 10 under Pochettino. Also, thoughts on Pulisic as a 10 then running Haji and Weah out wide at the left and right wings?
What you described as Pochettino's tactics are just standard soccer: the outside backs provide the width, the wings are inverted and they tuck in to help with possession and creating goals, etc. I don't get it. Why are you impressed with this?
This is extremely different than the previous regime. Press with fluid winger positioning creates more central 2v1 matchups where the 10s creativity is more involved. VERSUS wingers with heals constantly on the line allow for more possession and space to exploit on crosses. Does this help?
Why can't we play out of the back with Turner? Because of poor goal kicks? Players I hope we don't see on the pitch: Vickers (mistake-prone); Wright (can't finish); and Balogun (can't finish). Guys I want to see on the pitch (somewhere): Aaronson and Sargent. These guys are spark plugs. Find their positions--where they best thrive--and let the dogs eat!
