  • The USMNT ended Pochettino's 1st camp with a 2-0 win over Panama and a 2-0 loss to Mexico.
    It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great, so let's talk about Pochettino's 1st USMNT camp!

    It's neither a failure nor a success. It's a fact-finding camp. We weren't chasing results but rather looking at players and where they might fit. It'll take at least two more camps to get a sense of where this is going

    • @asnark7115
      @asnark7115 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Given our continued misuse of our forwards and backline, I'm going to say their wasn't much "observing" going on in camp; other than Poch identifying for himself which players will continue to eat schitt coaching and smile vs which ones have guts, instincts, and therefore won't fit his/Gregg's 4-3-3 non-shooting paradigm.

    • @asnark7115
      @asnark7115 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      "It'll take at least two more camps to get a sense of where this is going" Seriously? Poch is picking up Gregg's buttplug/baton and using his "hold-up striker" nonsense. So it's going nowhere but a clumsy 2nd/3rd in CONCACAF, 1-1-1 in a WC group stage, and the ovious loss of the 1st elimination match by halftime

    • @josh0g
      @josh0g 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      This is how I look at it too. His familiarity with our player pool is with the most prominent few, and Poch needed to get a look at all these others. Look at this group of guys. Puli, A-Rob, Ream (and maybe Brendo and Sargent) might be the only one's he knows a bit better. The others? He's seen tape. Pepi, Haji, Tillman, McKenzie, Scally he may have had a look at. Some are almost complete unknowns for him.
      Scally and McKenzie stock up.
      They keep confirming that they need to be in the conversation. Even when Dest is healthy, Scally is that lockdown defensive guy you need available off the bench or as rotational starter. Mckenzie is able, and that seems rare among our CBs.
      Ream and Aaronson stock down.
      We knew Ream would be transitioning out, and that's happening faster than Gregg had us prepared for. Aaronson can bring energy off the bench, but we can't rely on him for more. That's his ceiling.

    Adam is correct and I'm thinking as a casual fan in that Alejandro Zendejas has been consistently giving assists and needs to be captain to make this logic or idea plausible for it to work. Josh Sargent and the other guy what's his name who missed a scoring opportunity....a sitter both of this guys tried going alone afterward via Gong Ho lone wolf after one scoring attempt, what gives. Oppositions do watch lots and lots of tapes about each and every player at their own end in practice and you'd think it's a team effort mentality when it comes to playing this sport. Playing from the back becomes easier if and when the ball's progression at midpoint is less stagnant. Passing and recieving the ball back and receiving the ball "again" should be the gold standard for " fluidity" and is nothing to fret about just by looking at our last friendly. Aiden Morris, Joe Scully, Miles Robinson prefer one touch football and are all quick to check out after a foiled pass and they are soon out anticipating a counter after ball repossession, Aka through a hard foul ( not called by the referee). Just my 2 cents. Alejandro Zendejas gets fouled, but we need a backup to carry on reclaiming a loose ball Serie A's way. I won't name him for know.❤

    Stock Down:
    1. Aaronson - He should be a defensive late game sub. That's it
    2. Sargent - Same as above.
    Both the above have no skills on offense I swear. At least with the national team. Both of them starting is what led to us looking so anemic imo.
    Stock UP:
    1. Busio - I was pretty impressed with his game 1. Game 2 he was mid. Supposedly he can play at 10 so I would like to see that as well.
    2. Mackenzie - Great to have another CB.

    The USMNT needs to know that we are not stocked with talent, we're not England or France, we are a mid-tier team, knowing this made us good in years past. Why? Because we knew we had to fight, we have to be scrappy, we need grit, other teams should know that you might beat us, but it's going to be hard, and it's going to suck. If I were Poch, I would be looking around for some goons with good work rate, we can't let a team like Mexico push us around, I don't care if it's out B squad.

  • @j.frankparnell
    @j.frankparnell 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +15

    I rate this camp an 8. It took Berhalter 2 years to figure out his team because he was a coward. I wanted poch to bring in 50 players to camp. He dosent need to see the locks and he doesn't need to win in his first camp,. He needs to figure out his team. So Howard , lalas, and keller can all kiss poches ass. Poch just figured out about the quality of 10 non locks and even got info on a couple who might be locks or might be gone. Less than 1 months and poch is 1/2 a year ahead of ggg at this point. And ggg lost to Mexico anyway.

They also don't seem to notice that most of our guys in Europe aren't even remotely close to their teammates and opponents. MLS was recently ranked higher than the Championship, and all of these guys think the Championship is great. Once they've made fun of an MLS player, they won't admit they're wrong. It’s a failure. Which is a good thing. This is the time to fail. Learn, gather info, test depth, see who’s over the hill, learn which young player need to progress and see who should be nowhere near a U.S. men’s bat team jersey. That’s what friendlies (months from meaningful games) are for.
    If this was Beehalter it would be same ol song and dance. With a new coach I’m taking this as a weeding out and fall clean out. He has to do this to know what depth he’s working with and so many injured and shelved players. This is exactly where they need to be. So I’m not worried. Players need to get healthy, ball out, and coach needs to translate that to the national team. Work in progress!

This doesn’t mean Mexicos problems are fixed, that is a whole big issue that'll take years to resolve- However it’s clear that Vasco Aguirre could potentially do more with a full squad. Regardless, this was also an alternative squad for Mexico, with only 5 of them being locked starters (in recent games)

    If you are using U.S. media & fans expectations as the basis, well, this was a complete failure. However, if you look at this as a starting building block towards 2026, it should not be viewed as a disaster. Part of why it was perceived this way was because there had been so much discussion about the U.S. team having so much depth & at the same time, so many were saying how the once mighty Mexico had fallen to such a low level.
    It turns out that neither of those assumptions were fully correct.
    The media & fans were, in my opinion, unrealistically expecting immediate very positive results when Pochettino was hired, much like the success that Canada has enjoyed, as soon as Jesse Marsch was hired as their coach.
    This is a very different situation because Marsch had coached in Canada before & he had been an assistant coach for an international country team (U.S.A.) & he was fully aware of the pitfalls of playing on the road in CONCACAF. For Pochettino, it has been a cultural baptism of sorts & he will not turn the U.S. program around overnight.
    Also, in Canada, Marsch's approach was similar to his predecessor, John Herdman; but Pochettino & Berhalter had completely different tactics & approaches. Once again, it will take time to make these major changes.
    It will be interesting to see how Pochettino handles this mounting pressure & we have to wonder how all of this will impact the players beliefs & perspective.

    Adam said it early on "it's a process" Poch has got to rediscover the soul of the USMNT (similar to how Mikel Arteta had to at Arsenal) it'll take it's time, little by little, camp by camp there'll be improvments but it'll take time, he won't do it overnight, this camp certain squad players were given a chance and I'm sure the players know what Poch expects of them, in isolation it wasn't a good camp, but really it's all about Poch setting a baseline and then moving forward, if they've gone backwards by this time next year then questions should be asked but for now give him time

    A complete fail. However, it’s not his fault. We just don’t have the players to make a real run in the World Cup. Let’s face it, that’s the only reason he’s here. We’re gonna play on our soil in about a year and a half, and we’re either gonna get bounced to the group stage or get to the first level of playoffs And punch out there. A manager can’t score goals or play defensively. You can only pick the guys and the strategy, but that only goes so far if you don’t have the players.

    It was a total success if Pochettino actually LEARNED anything from bringing in this B/C team to play Mexico:
    1. Miles Robinson should NEVER EVER wear a USMNT shirt again.
    2. Brendan Aaronson's ONLY role henceforth should be to use that pesky horsefly pressing energy to drive the opposition crazy during Garbage Time, when the team is ahead, does not need any more goals (cuz he sure proved how useless he was as a 10), and just needs somebody to press the heck out of the other team and close out the match.
    3. Auston Trusty deserves a lot more looks. He looked good, and did not make the same sort of STUPID MLS level mistakes that Miles Robinson did.
    4. Musah actually has shown promise many times already as a defensive mid, and that's the ONLY role he should be used as in the future. He's not a winger, wingback, or a true defensive back. I don't know why his coaches can't figure this out. Musah as a defensive mid would have been 1000x better than Aidan Morris.
    5. Aidan Morris should only be considered a 4th choice henceforth, a Jesus Feirrera equivalent in the defensive mid role, to play the Minnows of the Caribbean. Tyler, Cardoso, Musah should be ahead of him as a defensive mid.
    6. Zendejas and Vasquez showed enough heart to deserve more looks.
    7. Time to move on from Sargent. The guy doesn't score. And that is his job as the 9.
    8. Tillman just doesn't have any interest in trying hard with the USMNT. Poch even said this in an interview where he explained why Tillman was NOT Dele Alli (doesn't have the same intensity). I would give him just a couple more chances and then drop him from the USMNT if he doesn't show.
