They made almost everything wrong about MiG-29: 1. Loses in 1C to almost every 4th gen 2. Bleeds its speed faster than any 4th gen in game 3. Doesn't have its MAIN missile (r-73) 4. HAS R-27ER??? Gaijin were definitely smoking something while making mig
As a certified F-15A player (I am bad at game), the only thing I fear about the flanker is the entire missile factory it carries, if I every get past the great wall of R73 however the Flunker really just falls out of the sky in a sustained dogfight its honestly kinda depressing since I also love how the Flanker looks too.
The SU-27 in later models are renowned for their initial turn in which combined with the R73 makes them incredibly dangerous in a merge. The BVR aspect you already covered with the R27ER/ET and until we get Fox 3s in game this is likely the best it is going to get.
The Su-27 we have in game is renowned for its initial turn. Just go and fire up DCS to try it, they've ben refining their Su-27 flight model to perfection over the last 2 decades.
With all these missiles itd be nice if gaijin bundled them when using weapon selection, its really annoying having to switch from 2/10 R-73 to 2/10 R-73 when it should just be 4/10, then 4/10 R-27ER, so on… its a pain having to memorize it for each aircraft when trying to dogfight and select between weapons
They made a bunch of PD modes on advanced aircraft capable of acquiring and maintaining lock on notching targets that are high up or at least look-up. I've noticed this includes static chaff.... ACM even in PD mode is scuffed when there's an abundance of chaff now in ym experience.
2:08 you know you have a tws mode and a pd headon and tws headon mode which makes its easier to detect and maintain lock on longer ranges(head-on modes) as long as they are heading towards you

It does counts missiles per type. The only problem is Gaijin is too lazy to copy paste another missile as "stock" R-73, so instead of 4/10 R-73, 2/10 R-27ET, 4/10 R-27ER, it goes 2 R-73, 2 R-73, 2 R-27ET and 4 R-27ER

My biggest issue so far it that they changed CW Illuminators and radars in PD seemingly randomly lock chaff or missiles go stupid. It's been incredibly frustrating.
I’m glad I’m not crazy. I have insane locking issues sometimes where it will not see ANYTHING but a chaff cloud that’s not even close to Bore sight radar.

1:50 that its almost a "falling leaf" maneuver that the Su-57 can do freely and turn around really fast. The F-22 can also do it but its much slower in it turn.

The Flanker’s radar is bugged. I’ve been playing it in sim and the radar barely wants to search targets. Then it easily breaks lock when the target flies straight.

The radar was hit shit in real life, DCS is a bad comparison. Irl the N001 was rejected several years in a row and delayed Su-27 deliveries by years. It is fundamentally worse than the decade older APG-63

Hey DEFYN, I love your plane guides, but often struggle with opening strategies in specific BR ranges/planes. E.g. Where do you go in Top Tier? Should you Climb at 9.0+? There is alot of talk of positioning(especially at top tier) and I struggle with getting into an ambush position(I‘m in the F16C). Where do I go, how fast do I go at the start and what do I do once the enemies and friendlies have merged? Often I try to flank but end up getting headonned by 8 guys and get Magics and R73s up my tailpipe. Could you maybe make a guide on early-game presence and positioning? Maybe a few example clips as well.
If I remember correctly, Defyn has talked about it in some of his older videos, where he basically said that he does his own thing and doesn't really wanna reveal it for his own sake
You can climb at around 10.3ish, but I like to hold a medium altitude so I can dive if someone slings a SARH at me. When it comes to top tier, low alt is safer, but if you have a plane with strong long range capabilities you can get away with starting high up
For the most part play a bunch of games and pay attention to what DEOSN’T work, and adjust accordingly to find what works for you. If you are pretty comfortable with bvr, maybe climb a little but make sure you stay below contrail altitude because they paint you for everyone to target. But if you don’t have r27 or aim54 I wouldn’t recommend climbing, especially now that the su27 is here. The general rule of bvr is longest stick wins
As far as I'm aware Gaijin have updated the P-39's flight model to make better use of their current flight model system. I don't think that this affects top speeds, climb rate and turn much and is more related to the stability of the aircraft. But it would still be appreciated if Defyn could fly this aircraft out. Maybe he should uptier himself to the 'correct' br of the P-39N in a squad and see how it performs.

Su-27 is beautiful and i think that if it had it's historical flight model it would probably be 13.0 but gaijin just made it 12.3 with a boogazooga flight model in order to fit with the new aditions.

Took me 330 games in the f-4(UK) to get gripen. How many did it take you in the 23ML? Russia is the only nation i did legit so im curious how fast the ML made it.
yoo DEFYN the thing about the flare drop, yea you only drop 1 while every other drop 2, but large caliber flares are 4x times better than normal flares, which kinda compensates
Ok I just tested it and you were right about the rates itself. Thats my bad. But 1 degree is something you can't really overcome Block 10 and 20 F16 were only 0.9 degree apart and one completely shat on the other. Try actually dueling an f15 that knows what hes doing and the su27 loses every time Maneuverability is more than just rate
Been doing something different in top tier lately instead of me using those planes I like to bring out the su22m3 to 12.3 battles and it’s pretty funny when you get kills.
I'd much rather they just gave the western planes AIM-120As isntead of absolutely gimping the Flanker's flight performance and Radar performance for the sake of balance

@@davidbalogun7569 that would be SU-35 with thrust vectoring NOT Su-27 ... there is zero reason for humongous brick of a plane to have good controllability at low speeds without using TV ... ffs stop going off of a things you see demonstrated at flight shows, SU-27 is NOT some nimble dogfighter, its literally designed to do ONE thing and one thing only - pull AoA from speed to make the other guy overshoot and blast him with the Archer ... simmilar concept to lets say F-18 Hornet or Mirage except both of those re SUBSTANTIALLY lighter planes
The Su-27 was done as dirty if not worse so than the SMT was. They nerfed the Oswalds efficiency number by ~33% while buffing the F-15's by more than that. Currently the 27's numbers are ~0.41 meaning all ti literally does is bleed speed, anything you do it bleeds. Meanwhile actual scientific calculations done on it have the Oswalds efficiency numbers ~0.71. This plane is hella underperforming on energy retention that it is actually unreal how badly they fucked it over. Meanwhile US planes are STILL overperforming after months (UFO-16) and now they buffed the F-15 to be pulling over 4 degrees/sec of AoA than it should be. Russian Bias am I right?

i think the reason soviet planes have worse maneuverability than US planes is because of instructor limit, gaijin don't know how to make these "supermaneuverability" work with their game instructor, so they simply limit the control at higher speed, you can see the elevator barely move at high speed
I do feel like the flight performance on Su-27 is very odd, I don’t know if it’s accurate or just gaijin being gaijin but the nose doesn’t pull where you want and just goes straight down. (I find the rader controls very annoying as a console player especially the skyscraper mode but I prefer the little box or normal radar lock)

HMD on console is very frustrating almost pointless unless I’m using the yaw axis but I’ll g lock and or haft to flare while pressing three different buttons at the same time not including launching missiles and switching on off seeker head when locked on flares

to help with your complaint about the dogfight performance, thats actually the desired design of the su 27. the su 27 is a one circle aoa fighter designed with high off boresight missiles in mind. your main goal is to pull way harder than the enemy after a merge and get the first missile shot. this will be even more exaggerated in later variants that add canards. outside of dogfights the su 27 was meant to be similar to the f15, having a slight edge in missile range and slight disadvantage in absolute top speed. importantly, both of these were designed with the goal to never dogfight, but still be capable in one. so the soviets compromised and made a plane thats a one trick pony in a dogfight, and the americans did the american thing and overengineered their plane until they didnt need to compromise.
in air rb f16 pulls more aoa in a 1 circle fight so its stupid , also the su27 is pretty much better than mig29 , are u saying the mig29 was also never meant to dogfight irl ?

I have the F-15J. It’s ok. Being 500kg heavier than the A model is a downside, however F-15’s currently can first turn most (?) jets at top tier under the right speeds (at about 800kph optimal). The advantage of the J is the AAM-3’s. Use your air brake, dump flares, force an overshoot and try get an AAM-3 lock. Once they turn side aspect shoot, and the AAM-3 will hit its target almost every time. In a sustained dogfight technically the F-15J can perform, however they’re very rare and you’re likely to be 3rd partied. Something like a JAS39 however will just roll you so be warned.
I don't understand why comments are thinking that US planes are missile busses. Like yes, they do carry lots of missiles, but so do russian planes. Yes, russian planes are made to be manouverable gen 4 fighers, but so are US planes. The only missile bus currently fielded by a major country is the chinese J-20. Eagles fare great in dogfights, Vipers fare even better in dogfights, Hornets have awesome low speed nose authority (aka do great in dogfights), The f-14 is soort of a missile bus but still has great dogfighting ability with its wings out for its age. Like someone explain to me why a russian plane should be more manouverable at all aspects than an american plane. No, Flankers are for 1 circles, Eagles are for 2 circles. That's how its always been.

this plane is like a late 90s -mid 2000's MMA heavyweight : roided up, extremely large and suprisingly agile freakshows that tires wayy too easily
My only issue with HMD and ACM is the range is 10km.. On alot of other top tier jets it's 19km
as a F16 user the 19km ACM NEVER locks until im atleast 9-8KM from a opponent so its not bad at all honestly

The U.S. countered the Su27 IRL with Aim-120s anyways so it’s in a weird spot rn fighting AIM-7Misses

yoo DEFYN the thing about the flare drop, yea you only drop 1 while every other drop 2, but large caliber flares are 4x times better than normal flares, which kinda compensates

Block 10 and 20 F16 were only 0.9 degree apart and one completely shat on the other.
Try actually dueling an f15 that knows what hes doing and the su27 loses every time
Maneuverability is more than just rate
So that's why I kinda struggle when going up close and personnal with the su27 because I'm used to dogfight aggressively when I play the mirage 2000
Been doing something different in top tier lately instead of me using those planes I like to bring out the su22m3 to 12.3 battles and it’s pretty funny when you get kills.
I'd much rather they just gave the western planes AIM-120As isntead of absolutely gimping the Flanker's flight performance and Radar performance for the sake of balance

It is gimped, Su-27 is more maneuverable than F-15 in dogfights and low speed fights, but in game situation is reversed

The Su-27 was done as dirty if not worse so than the SMT was. They nerfed the Oswalds efficiency number by ~33% while buffing the F-15's by more than that. Currently the 27's numbers are ~0.41 meaning all ti literally does is bleed speed, anything you do it bleeds. Meanwhile actual scientific calculations done on it have the Oswalds efficiency numbers ~0.71. This plane is hella underperforming on energy retention that it is actually unreal how badly they fucked it over. Meanwhile US planes are STILL overperforming after months (UFO-16) and now they buffed the F-15 to be pulling over 4 degrees/sec of AoA than it should be. Russian Bias am I right?

Aim120 are supposed to come first or second major patch of next year, and I would venture to guess f/a18 arrives at the same time
If the B-1B gets added, cruise missiles likely won't be out of the question. F-18 will probably be another F-16A situation.

i think the reason soviet planes have worse maneuverability than US planes is because of instructor limit, gaijin don't know how to make these "supermaneuverability" work with their game instructor, so they simply limit the control at higher speed, you can see the elevator barely move at high speed
I do feel like the flight performance on Su-27 is very odd, I don’t know if it’s accurate or just gaijin being gaijin but the nose doesn’t pull where you want and just goes straight down. (I find the rader controls very annoying as a console player especially the skyscraper mode but I prefer the little box or normal radar lock)
it must be gaijin doing, or the instructor stupidity, you can see how little the elevator turns at high speed

HMD on console is very frustrating almost pointless unless I’m using the yaw axis but I’ll g lock and or haft to flare while pressing three different buttons at the same time not including launching missiles and switching on off seeker head when locked on flares

to help with your complaint about the dogfight performance, thats actually the desired design of the su 27.
the su 27 is a one circle aoa fighter designed with high off boresight missiles in mind. your main goal is to pull way harder than the enemy after a merge and get the first missile shot.
this will be even more exaggerated in later variants that add canards. outside of dogfights the su 27 was meant to be similar to the f15, having a slight edge in missile range and slight disadvantage in absolute top speed. importantly, both of these were designed with the goal to never dogfight, but still be capable in one. so the soviets compromised and made a plane thats a one trick pony in a dogfight, and the americans did the american thing and overengineered their plane until they didnt need to compromise.
in air rb f16 pulls more aoa in a 1 circle fight so its stupid , also the su27 is pretty much better than mig29 , are u saying the mig29 was also never meant to dogfight irl ?

I have the F-15J. It’s ok. Being 500kg heavier than the A model is a downside, however F-15’s currently can first turn most (?) jets at top tier under the right speeds (at about 800kph optimal). The advantage of the J is the AAM-3’s. Use your air brake, dump flares, force an overshoot and try get an AAM-3 lock. Once they turn side aspect shoot, and the AAM-3 will hit its target almost every time. In a sustained dogfight technically the F-15J can perform, however they’re very rare and you’re likely to be 3rd partied. Something like a JAS39 however will just roll you so be warned.
Now more than ever we need jet battles restricted to 8vs8 players.

I don't understand why comments are thinking that US planes are missile busses. Like yes, they do carry lots of missiles, but so do russian planes. Yes, russian planes are made to be manouverable gen 4 fighers, but so are US planes. The only missile bus currently fielded by a major country is the chinese J-20. Eagles fare great in dogfights, Vipers fare even better in dogfights, Hornets have awesome low speed nose authority (aka do great in dogfights), The f-14 is soort of a missile bus but still has great dogfighting ability with its wings out for its age.
Like someone explain to me why a russian plane should be more manouverable at all aspects than an american plane. No, Flankers are for 1 circles, Eagles are for 2 circles. That's how its always been.
