When you pull more than a certain AoA, your delta act as a massive airbrake. They modified the authority of the control surfaces so that it doesn't pull more than 12g, so if you want to pull AoA, you need to slow down under a certain speed
Delta wings are actually designed for speed, the speed bleed is a downside of high AOA, not a desired characteristic. That said, if you’re fast enough to keep the AOA low, deltas can rate extremely well - especially if they have the thrust available to power through the airbraking/AOA issue.

So because there is no thrust reverser on the Jas39, it uses the canards as extra airbrakes to stop at a shorter distance when landing. I was hoping this would be implemented since the dev server but it remains absent. It was even written about the feature in the devblog. I can't post on the forum so someone please bring this up to Gaijin because right now the stopping distance is like 1km instead of 400m when touching down at 300 kph. people love to dog on Skyflashes because other radar missiles are better at top tier, but Skyflashes are REALLY not bad at all. 25+ Gs directly off the rail and higher instantaneous accel than late sparrows. really good potential for all aspect kills within 6 or 7km

Defyn when you get done with all this top tier game play can you fly the J-21 out? ie noticed theres no videos on its propeller version or there hasnt been in a pretty long time
It is, but it's a little less insane and more about inconsistencies with the game when you learn about how the instructor in war thunder works, and how it absolutely makes it impossible to ratefight in the way these jets were designed for. take a look at his recorded turnrate stats on the F-16 in this video; under 20deg/s is BAD for an F-16 and it makes sense the harder you think about war thunder's instructor controls. people think ratefighting is purely sustained turn, so they hold S and do just that- turn. the instructor in turn interprets this as the player desiring the strongest elevator input as possible, which is the LAST thing you want in a ratefight. like look at the video, his F-16 is literally below 400kph in a turn- thats SLOW for a viper. Because of this, you obviously bleed way more speed and just sit at these ludicrously low numbers as a result. The F-16 is meant to ratefight at a pretty high speed, over 750km/h usually, but here in war thunder people just hold S and get into these comedically slow """rate""" fights. next time you find yourself in the time and place for it, instead of holding S, try using your mouse cursor by dragging it over the bandit when you ratefight them so you're turning in, and then neg-G counteract the turn very slightly and gently until you can reach proper speeds (every jet has a 'corner speed like a car') and suddenly you'll find the F-16 and perhaps even F-14B with wings out could fuck with a gripen quite readily. then you'll *really* see what a max performing teen-series fighter looks like -assuming minimum weight of these aircraft-
@@jaek__ it arguably keeps you safer than full commit holding S for one guy since your average speed doesnt drop so low. also quote "time and place" in my 3rd para

If the target was damaged before the game ended and explodes afterwards, it should count as kill.
But having games end due to tickets is annoying anyway.
Hey defyn do you use a flight stick or mouse and keyboard?
What allowed you to see the AoA and Deg./s on the planes DEFYN? Seems really cool but I have no idea how to get it.
Its WRTI
3:01 Me and my friend tested with both stock planes (Jas 39 and Su 27), you need to use flaps on the Su 27 to use the full potential
even spaded you will drop down to 300kph with takeoff flaps you will just fall out of the air
It might be beneficial in a dogfight but in a turn like that it doesn't help you
just tested it
stock is:
without flaps 320/330kph at 14.5 deg/s
With takeoff flaps 290 13.5 deg/s
With landing flaps 265/280kph at 13.2 deg/s
It's straight up worse
And just for refrence
Spaded:
Without flaps 340/345 15-15.5 deg/s
With takeoff 300/310 14.5 deg/s
Looking forward to fly with this plane after 2-3 years grinding :D
Seems like passing out is hard to predict since the screen stops getting darker after a certain point. It’d be nice if the screen continued getting darker as you got closer to passing out to the point where it’s completely black because you’ve actually blacked out.
The same patch that reduced the ammo also changed cannon damage. Might've made it better.
Nope. Still hits like wet farts
How do you see the AoA and that extra stuff in the beginning?
I was expecting the gripen to perform similar to a hornet lose a good amount of speed while RIPPING AOA coming around the circle under 420kts and be a brick above 480kts
gripen is quite a bit less maneuverable than a f18C/A
Gaijin, PLEASE give Hungary an air tree! I want to fly this thing!
This thing with the sky flashes actually ain’t bad all aspect at closer ranges, radar keeps lock pretty good
people love to dog on Skyflashes because other radar missiles are better at top tier, but Skyflashes are REALLY not bad at all. 25+ Gs directly off the rail and higher instantaneous accel than late sparrows. really good potential for all aspect kills within 6 or 7km
@@blessthismessss sky flashes are a hit or miss 7km is already pretty far for the missile
@@ferrous3262yea literally if they turn right or left the missile just cant reach them, and thats IF the radar doesnt get fucked by a 90 degree angle
@@ferrous3262 i never launched over 6 km in the fgr for the many years it was in the game and it always gets a kill
Shit does look cool, like something out of star wars
Thank You for adding the turn stat. Could You leave it for all gameplay?
The Russia mains are about enjoy all the energy retention the swedes used to with the Viggen.
Quite the grippen story.
Wish they hadn’t nerfed the FL. It shouldn’t have been able to have an AOA limiter from Project Wingman, but the old turn rate was correct. They really gotta turn everything into some sort of derivative of something else.
WOOD GRAIN IM GRIPEN
Ball gribber
Defyn when you get done with all this top tier game play can you fly the J-21 out? ie noticed theres no videos on its propeller version or there hasnt been in a pretty long time
23 deg/s SUSTAINED turn rate is absolutely insane
The F-16 is meant to ratefight at a pretty high speed, over 750km/h usually, but here in war thunder people just hold S and get into these comedically slow """rate""" fights.
next time you find yourself in the time and place for it, instead of holding S, try using your mouse cursor by dragging it over the bandit when you ratefight them so you're turning in, and then neg-G counteract the turn very slightly and gently until you can reach proper speeds (every jet has a 'corner speed like a car') and suddenly you'll find the F-16 and perhaps even F-14B with wings out could fuck with a gripen quite readily. then you'll *really* see what a max performing teen-series fighter looks like -assuming minimum weight of these aircraft-
@@blessthismessssthis advice almost exclusively applies to duels. doing this mid game will kill you obviously
@@jaek__ it arguably keeps you safer than full commit holding S for one guy since your average speed doesnt drop so low. also quote "time and place" in my 3rd para
@@blessthismessss tapping and neg G'ing is common practice for anyone not trying to pass out anyway you can 'smartly' full send for one person and die with just a little bit more airspeed
@@jaek__ you can also use that airspeed to just not full send for only one guy. i've ratefought multiple bandits doing exactly what my advice states, even in air rb lol
are you doing this by hand for each flare ? that they come so harmonicly like a musical beat . or just holding button down and then each second one flare ? i don t even know waht to type into the search field under control options for that
legit clicked baited by the title man, GRIPPEN DEEZZZZ NUTSSSSS
Defyn or anyone else. How does he have those extra stats by the rwr shows aoa thrust etc.
Im about to be grippen my shlong with how this thing flies
So is the title a reference to your community post?
I waited months for this plane to be added just to make a deez nuts joke
Do not understate my achievement 😭😭
14:06 the guy was so desperate he recognized you @DEFYN ahah
its so bs that they reduced the ammo count to what it should be without fixing the fact its still a peashooter
cool!
what are your expectations for this dogfighting with the mirage 4k?
absolutely W play there at the end and by a premium no less.
The funny fact about this plane is that you can fly it with both wings ripped off
You can with most planes.
Jepicus
Rip the ammo 512 will be missed
Gripen is the Ariete of top tier
Constantly flaring!
GRIIIIIIIIPEN
Its so sad that they nerfed the ammount to 120 :ccc, its should be at least 300 honestly
How did you yet the AoA HUD like that? I know WTRTI exists and I use it, but how do you make a number turn red when it hits a certain value?
7:20 for a 27mm that is INCREDIBLY underpowered. Im literally laughing at how bad they made the gun.
are swedes handheld because there are some on the devteam, or because there are some under the devteam's desks?
Gotta love how they not only screwed up the thrust on the Fulcrum but they screwed up the super-maneuverability of the Flanker, funny how the things both were known for, is what they're not good at. At least the Gripen is a blast to fly and the F-15 handles decently. I play every nation so I'm always winning, I just wish I had a reason to bring out the Russians since they look so cool.
Great video as always! I was wondering, how did you get the aoa and turn rate to be displayed like that when you were testing out the performance?
Search WTRTI for war thunder
Most likely WTRTI.
Dam, Gaijin Russian bias not on the SU27? Time to nerf the Grippen then.
Defyn what are you using to get the flight data at 1:14 - 4:13
I'm so frustrated that everyone keeps saying GriPPen when it's GriPen. But yeah I also love the Eeagle and the Flankker
The Gripen's definitely make me work overtime on my F-16, I'll tell you that.
Defyn, have you tried to make the recording software higher priority to get rid of the stutters ?
How would i do that?
@@DEFYN either, if you are using OBS, you have that is the settings somewhere. have been ages since i fooked around there. OR if you are using something els, you need to find the process in task manager and manually put it in higher priority. hope my botched English is understandable. =O
@@ReNameMe il try it out thanks
Perfectly understandable:)
@@DEFYN Nice, glad to help. if it helps. =)
Any chance of you uploading vids in 4k? What are the barriers currently?
The barrier is over double the rendering and upload time for at most 50 people
