Maybe without the goal posts? Is there a running track around it? If so he might be able to squeeze it in. The landing gear footprint would certainly be within the boundaries!
Kerbal AirForce You could probably squeeze it in if you removed the goal posts and fences, but the football and track coach would have my *ass* for the divots it would leave in his field.
Leave the posts there, the Anaconda would just squish them on landing. A bigger problem would be ground pressure and the Anaconda's landing gear sinking into the earth.
Probably not. The gear has to be able to land in a variety of terrain on an infinite number of planets. The ground on many of them has to be softer than a football field, and some even have higher gravity. Future space voodoo tech.
Kerbal AirForce High surface area is the equivalent of future space voodoo tech. The Anaconda's gear pads have the surface area of small helipads. It should be more than enough to distribute the weight of the 1,200 tonne ship, leaving nothing more than flattened grass and about an inch of sunken dirt.
Look at some of the Bengal carrier walk throughs from leaked Star Citizen content. The bridge in that thing is 3 stories tall, plus a traffic control tower as a fourth story. Hence why some of the 'cockpits' look so huge.
Yeah, but the bridge at the Bengal carrier does look like it's three stories high, as there are three stories inside and numerous posts for people operating it. It is in fact a proper bridge. But some of these ships in E:D look like they have a bubble cockpit for a single pilot, but in this correct scale should be three stories high as well :D
tl;dr Bengal carrier does look big, as it is in fact big. E:D ships look small (mostly like fighters), even though they wouldn't fit in a football stadium
Reminds me of the first time I went out in a SRV, and took a look at my ship from ground level. It was only a federal dropship, but still I was amazed how huge it really was. We dogfight in remarkably large ships.
My favorite E:D memory is landing and deploying SRV to scoop materials before realizing there was another CMDR in their ASP nearby getting ready to take off. Caught me off guard because I thought I was in solo-play but after a friendly chat they lifted up, turned to face me, flashed their ground lights, and turned back to the sky and blasted off. I was flying an Anaconda which is like 3x the size of the ASP but as I was sitting in the SRV (in VR, mind you), seeing that ASP blink it's lights at me before thundering away was the coolest VR experience I've had.
You can walk around your ships in Star Citizen. The big ones really feel like a real ship, it's amazing, especially if you've got someone else piloting.
TyOrca 5 Bro, Try flying with the alliance where we have 0 dedicated combat ships, no capital ships, and the crappiest fighter in the beta, and then talk to me about real pilots.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe if you head over to Andromeda you should find a few spots selling them. Interesting ship actually. Not very fast, but full of potassium.
Pretty sure it would be the new "installations" that are in 2.2 beta right now. While modular everything is interconnected so I think it would count as the Orbis stations are also modular. When you fly up to one of the installations you realize how incredibly huge they are, hell you can fly through them!
You would have preferred something else? Sticking with Tchaikovsky, maybe 1812 might have been more appropriate (these are mostly military vehicles), or maybe Wagner (Tannhauser or Ride of the Valkyries would seem an apposite choice! :-) )
Yeah, VR and you know how big all is. First time to see an Orbis Station in VR: mindblowing. At a normal monitor it looks like an Ant compared with his real size. Even the today VR can't show you it exactly because of the low resolution you can't watch wide enough.
Yeah, one main feature of VR (because without it would not be VR) is headtracking and 1:1 not the TrackIR like headtracking. So it is completely natural, you didn't need any training to use it right, and that is one reason why VR is so great, beside the size thing and that you can see all in 3D, not 100% natural 3D right now but it is pretty close to it. And that all together is simply mind blowing.
Started the clip . . . music, and I thought "pretentious" - Then a Tesco banana for scale, and what was at first pretentious, thus became epic and enjoyable - 10/10 would giggle again.
It was the music used for the docking sequence in 2001 A Space Odyssey. That's why it plays in the game as you engage auto docking. th-cam.com/video/q3oHmVhviO8/w-d-xo.html
Really wish they add an option to install Armoured Shutters that can close around the Cockpit windows as need and switching to external camera. It will of course prevent the cockpit windows from being destroyed as easily. The weakness can be a limiting view to that of a holographic screen in front of you or maybe distorted vision when the enemy uses Chaff or ECM.
I greatly enjoyed this video, having been playing the game quite a bit, I liked being able to reflect on my past ships and seeing where I've started and where I am now. Starting with the default sidewinder, then quickly grabbing hold of a Viper Mk.III, taking on tons of bounties, then moved up to a Cobra Mk.III, went through a bunch of various missions, and finally sitting pretty in a nearly unstoppable Vulture. Never been gunned down in it, not for lack of trying, even took out waves of pirates from random distress signals, and saving up for a Fer-de-Lance, for bounties and such.
I like your timeline of your game. I personally started in a sidewinder, went straight to the dbx, for cargo, bought a vulture to dip my toes in combat, went back to my sidewinder because I didn’t have enough money to outfit a vulture, learned my lesson after jumping into a threat lv 4 weapons fire zone, with a sidewinder. My friend talked me into buying a cobra mk lll, because it treated him well, I liked it, bought a keelback to try core extraction, made big money, bought a type 7, failed to do a wing mission by myself, went back to the keelback, made a ton of money to buy a clipper, realized I need rank, ground out rank with the empire, bought my clipper, tuned it into a shield generator with wings, went back to combat, liked it, but I didn’t have enough money to get my ship to its full potential, went back to my dbx, went on the road to riches, made about 3 mil, and in a desperate attempt to make money, I bought a dolphin and tried to transport people places, hated it, with head down, limped back to the void opal hotspot, and made 55 mil over a few hours, bought myself a krait mk ll, outfitted it for death, and here we are now. Bored and without any reason to keep going, as a krait was further than I thought I would ever get. So, yeah
Nice work.. always liked your earlier videos, but this is a huge improvement .. like how you added the ship manufacturer names. Well done, the only thing I will say is I did like on previous videos you would show some real world comparisons .. like a F-16 and Air Craft Carrier, but other than that great stuff.
I find it fantastic that not only good music was played, but the music is also related to the game itself!! It's the same piece played when autodocking.
i think the fact that a newly installed coriolis station interdicted me out of super cruise even though i was allied with it's faction, is enough of a problem...
***** It looks like we are flying little ships and we are not. I have never seen VR so I can't comment but the scale on a monitor sucks. I don't feel like my Corvette is that big, yet I know it's the size of an aircraft carrier. Star Citizen on the other coveys the scale perfectly. Shame it sucks so bad I can't bare to play it.
U don't have the perception, but i "landed" my vulture in top of some anacondas with broke power plant i wask killing, they're pretty huge when u get close. But i know what u're saying. i went from vulture to python, and the only thing that changes is the manouverability. It stills seems i'm flying a sidewinder in size.
When we allowed to walk around I'd love to be able to fly one (or another massive ship) then get in a smaller ship to go into the station to resupply, I wonder if we'll get that.
As a growing CAD designer i want to ask how long it took them to make those models because they look good, but i could see a few shortcuts to get some results, but another issue is dimensions. you can't just throw those together you know?
Hi Mat, I was wondering if you could do a similar video which compares the size of different hard points (not for all weapons, maybe just some of them - maybe Pulse Laser, Multi-Cannon, Cannon, Plasma Accelerator, Rail Gun and Missile Launcher)? Most people really underestimate how fricking big even those small "class 1" weapons already are... ;-)
Since you're extracting meshes, how about the new "scout" ship class that popped up in the Ships folder in the 2.2 beta, since it's listed as having "organic" weapons I'm willing to bet it's the flying version of the crashed unknown scout.
I keep coming back to this video again and again. Makes it so much easier to understand the role of each ship. Keep seeing the Federal Corvette described as a "Fighter". Your video helps me understand the "Corvette" part. The Corvette may be a fighting ship, but it would be less confusing if everyone used the term "Combat Ship" ." Fighter" suggests a small agile ship rather than a mobile gun platform that is longer, though not as broad, as a Type 9 Freighter.
I've watched this video like 10 times, and I've clicked "like" each time before I watched it. Makes me wonder why TH-cam isn't logging likes correctly.
Note to the Frontier Development Team, Please take note on the level of detail the Asp Scout and the Asp Explorer have in this video. The Asp Explorer in deed lacks the same level of detail as the Asp Scout. Please correct this, it should be somewhat of copy & paste to the Explorer model in some regards. Thanks and keep up the great work on Elite. You all ROCK! MR, Awesome vids, keep up the great work. Always awesome and fun to watch!

You've just convinced me to buy this game. Who cares if I have 550 MB less than the recommended amount of RAM? Also, great choice of music and the Tesco banana was a nice addition, as they tend to be more like baby bananas.
Starting off with the proper scale. Bravo.
9gag standard unit!
WisewolfOfAvalon Oh, you.
Definitely Cavendish. Gros Michelle would have been slightly differently curved and wider.
Banana for scale
cant go wrong with a banana for scale
My friend was always arguing with me that he could land an Anaconda on our football field.
He was WRONG.

Brilliant upload. What is the jump range on an A-spec banana?
My guess is 30m.
mattvjmeasures one B type cucumber
I jumped on a banana to test. I went about three feet.
mattvjmeasures Although, sometimes it can take damage after jumping, and sometimes the shields can split open as well.
:-) :-) :-)
Those cockpits are ridiculously big. Like frigate-size bridge for a single dude in a chair. Without context it makes the ships feel much much smaller
It is in fact a proper bridge. many of those ships have multi crew cockpits. It starts with the Cobra Mark III, for 2 people next to eachother.
Because it is made for several crew-members. An expansion pack in the future will allow your friends to sit in the same spaceship as you.
Reminds me of the first time I went out in a SRV, and took a look at my ship from ground level. It was only a federal dropship, but still I was amazed how huge it really was. We dogfight in remarkably large ships.

I can't wait till we can walk around on ships. For now i can only imagine what is like to walk around on those ships.
Walking on a banana sounds fun
You can walk around your ships in Star Citizen.
The big ones really feel like a real ship, it's amazing, especially if you've got someone else piloting.
i don t think we will be able to walk arround them, just look, they are too big
StarkIndustry thats exactly why we need to be able to walk on them!
+StarkIndustry according to frontier, It's in the works as well as walking around on stations.
Did you just assume his faction? "Federation Pilot"
Factionary appropriation right there...
Canadian Jesus
Because us federals are real pilots. That's why.
TyOrca 5 Bro, Try flying with the alliance where we have 0 dedicated combat ships, no capital ships, and the crappiest fighter in the beta, and then talk to me about real pilots.
As in pilots federation. All CMDRs are independent pilots within the pilots federation, regardless of their political alignment or allegiance.
***** huh, my bad.
I've been to hundreds of stations and haven't seen that banana for sale anywhere! D:
Does anyone know which space port with a shipyard sells the tesco banana? ..looks like an interesting ship.
It's a rare item from the Beejams system. :)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe if you head over to Andromeda you should find a few spots selling them. Interesting ship actually. Not very fast, but full of potassium.
Gabriel Rd wherever there are horses there will be a tesco
I bought mine at the good ol’ Trevithick Dock in LHS 3447
They sell them at Hutton Orbital
okay, now we need to figure out what THE largest man-made structure in the game is
Orbis stations could technically be as long as you like.
Pretty sure it would be the new "installations" that are in 2.2 beta right now. While modular everything is interconnected so I think it would count as the Orbis stations are also modular. When you fly up to one of the installations you realize how incredibly huge they are, hell you can fly through them!
Zogger568 that's simple THE largest thing man-made in the game are the cities on the planets, the planets with an atmosphere of course
Space dredgers ;)
Peeler-class
why does delacy keep trying to market cheese wedges as spaceships and naming them after snakes?
The designs are drawn from the old games. LOL
Matt Schmelzer Those cheese wedges are good ships. Well, most of them, anyways.
They were obviously trying to copy the Tesco-Class Banana Ship.
What are you talking about ? Only three ships, actually kept their 8-bit "cheese wedge" shapes.
they make good door stops to keep the mail slot open for other ships
Absolutely bloody love that you chose music from the nutcracker suite. Absolute perfection and beauty just like elite dangerous.
I keep coming back to this video, it's so calming. Why does no one use classical music in videos any more?
Anima Manager because dubstepp is super mega insane duuuude
Infinite Lives people like toaster noises for some reason
That was awesome. Thank you so much for choosing some good music. Not some cheap dusbtep/edm track.
Damn right, classical music is the best
I actually had the video muted before I pressed play cause I figured I wouldn't like whatever was playing. Instead I was all "Ra Ra Rasputin"
:(
You would have preferred something else? Sticking with Tchaikovsky, maybe 1812 might have been more appropriate (these are mostly military vehicles), or maybe Wagner (Tannhauser or Ride of the Valkyries would seem an apposite choice! :-) )
That was clearly a reference to Blue Danube scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Can't wait till we can get out of our ships, and really see all of these huge ass size differences in game .__.
vr?
Yeah, VR and you know how big all is. First time to see an Orbis Station in VR: mindblowing. At a normal monitor it looks like an Ant compared with his real size. Even the today VR can't show you it exactly because of the low resolution you can't watch wide enough.
.hack//Balmung I was surprised the sidewinder was so big.

***** They never promised anything
Started the clip . . . music, and I thought "pretentious" - Then a Tesco banana for scale, and what was at first pretentious, thus became epic and enjoyable - 10/10 would giggle again.
returning to the space loach instead of the banana was a brave artistic choice
So someone who likes classical music is automatically pretentious... Guess I found the douchebag.
This was used the music used for previous elite games. Show respect.
It was the music used for the docking sequence in 2001 A Space Odyssey. That's why it plays in the game as you engage auto docking. th-cam.com/video/q3oHmVhviO8/w-d-xo.html
Mick Dixon I thought I was getting trolled at first when it went from banana to a sock toy lol
Absolutely fantastic work! The end made me howl laughing. Great work!
Wayne Ashworth yeah I had to laugh about ten minutes because of the end...
Wayne Ashworth What was the joke?
@@assassinaria 5 years and still looking for the joke.
How many passenger missions until I can afford Tesco Banana class fighter?
Eleventeen.
Yesn't
deep core mining is your friend =)
get one or two friends and mine away.
Took me a few days to swap my python for an anaconda.
LondonSpade get the Asda banana, it’s cheaper :)
music was great, its been awhile since i heard that tune
I was hoping the zoom back in at the end would be David Braben stood there giving the thumbs up :D
That was great, nice choice of music too
what is the name of this song ?
Waltz of the Flowers from the Nutcracker Suite ballet (Tchaikovsky)
Beautifully done - really appreciate the amount of work you must have put into this.
Lots of unnecessarily huge cockpits. That might have a part in why scale in Elite is so very hard to appreciate.
Thats what Star Citizen is for XD
Well take into account that many of these larger ships cockpits accommodate more than one pilot lol
Yes, that always seemed strange to me. I mean, no wonder the cockpit gets hit so often.
they need the space. the next update is the co pilot one allowing your friends to travel in your ship if space allows
Without words to express the quality of this video. Brilliant!
What class of ship is the banana?
Majestic Class Interdictor MKII
***** Never saw a Cobra MK D or a Viper MK B before
***** oh ok ya that makes sense
G4mer 4ddict ASDA class banana is an alternative
It's a Cobra MK V
I greatly enjoyed this video, having been playing the game quite a bit, I liked being able to reflect on my past ships and seeing where I've started and where I am now. me too
Tchaikovsky, man...
FANTASTIC video - I saved it in my favorites to watch again and again - thank you!
Nice work.. always liked your earlier videos, but this is a huge improvement .. like how you added the ship manufacturer names. Absolutely brilliant! These videos just get better and better. Beautiful job sir.
can we have a Scale video on how the Alien Ship looks compared to all the Elite Dangerious ships and stations
Awesome work +Mat Recardo - I love the reveal of the Interdictor and the Battle Cruiser at the end!
Damn You! I was taking a drink when the banana appeared, and I inadvertently spit it over my keyboard.
This video was far more enjoyable than I thought it would be.
Great choice of music. :-)
Very cool. Being a Star Citizen player myself, i find these to be very practical ship shapes. Great video.
Awesome work,. Mat!
Cheers Boz!
appreciate keeping the pilot for scale as you moved up!
No Coriolis station? =(
I figure one station was enough!!
Well, I was just curious about a size comparison between those two stations, but it does not matter. Nice job.
That planetary city thing would be nice too :(
Or a type of Outpost?
Makes sense since this is a station that can travel, unlike the coriolis which gets buit in an orbit and stays there
I find it fantastic that not only good music was played, but the music is also related to the game itself!!
It's the same piece played when autodocking.
I want a Farragut...for Nav beacon bounty hunting of course. >:)
i think the fact that a newly installed coriolis station interdicted me out of super cruise even though i was allied with it's faction, is enough of a problem...
Police services usually interdict you for safety measures to make sure everything is green.
Brilliantly done. Wonderful piece of work!
nice work mate, thanks for sharing
Such a great video and well made. It also shows the the beauty of the designs of the ships very well.
Fantastic video. Where did you get the 3d models from?
That's a thing of beauty! Thanks very much for putting the effort in.
ED doesn't portray scale very well I'm afraid.
In VR it actually does.
R4psu I wish it did on a monitor. I feel like I'm flying small ships no matter what I fly.
If I had a friend with one I'd borrow it but I'm not spending more than my computer is worth on one, not until I get a better computer anyway :)

Amazing work. Excellent Music timing. Great work. Respect!
so when do we get to own the last 2 ships? that would be sweet
When we allowed to walk around I'd love to be able to fly one (or another massive ship) then get in a smaller ship to go into the station to resupply, I wonder if we'll get that.
Flying Cow you'd have to, those last two are so huge they don't fit on any platform
who ever designed these ships are very talented. looks awesome
Man, I love the type 9 heavy. It looks so badass.
unfortunately it's an amazon distribution warehouse that someone glued engines to
Awesome vid, really puts all those hunks of metal into perspective.
Great work! It really puts the scale of Elite into view. Did you make all of the 3D models yourself?
TyOrca 5 he probably just took the model files from the game directory
As a growing CAD designer i want to ask how long it took them to make those models because they look good, but i could see a few shortcuts to get some results, but another issue is dimensions. you can't just throw those together you know?
Stag Dragon these models most likely weren't made in CAD but in Maya or Cinema 4D
Great job. I had no idea my Imperial Clipper was actually the 6th largest player-pilotable ship.
Hi Mat, I was wondering if you could do a similar video which compares the size of different hard points (not for all weapons, maybe just some of them - maybe Pulse Laser, Multi-Cannon, Cannon, Plasma Accelerator, Rail Gun and Missile Launcher)?
Most people really underestimate how fricking big even those small "class 1" weapons already are... ;-)
Nicely done! This makes me want to stand up and wander around my ship.
As soon as they moved away from the banana I was lost
same
Great job. Nice to see the relative size of these ships.
Since you're extracting meshes, how about the new "scout" ship class that popped up in the Ships folder in the 2.2 beta, since it's listed as having "organic" weapons I'm willing to bet it's the flying version of the crashed unknown scout.
One would hope so. Hoping to see that in game soon hopefully.
Cmdr Flint lmao you saw the thargoids first

Some of those sizes look wrong. isn't the viper bigger than the eagles and hauler?
Nope :
Viper MkIII : Dimensions 29.8L - 24.0W - 8.6H
Eagle MkII : Dimensions 31.2L - 29.7W - 7.1H
Hauler : Dimensions 28.6L - 26.2W - 10.4H
That's doesn't seem right. My friends and I pulled the ships alongside each other and the viper was the largest
In width maybe, not in length
Bulkiest most definitely. Eagles dimensions are higher in numbers but Viper is more filled up within his.
Excellent video!!! Really put so many things in perspective!!! Great Job!!! Thanks!
Wonderful! In every way! Sandro had better get that loach mass produced, though, I think he'd sell more of those than paint jobs.
I enjoyed that presentation more than I enjoy playing the game itself.
Fucking Tchaikovsky man....when that song ended, i had to keep myself from bowing....as if i had just accomplished something grand...lol
That is excellent work Mat.
I've been out of the loop for a while. Could someone please explain the catfish sockpuppet to me?
Space Iguana it's what one of the Devs wear around their shoulders in livestreams frontier do.
Iguana?! Catfish?! :) Its a loach! Space loach to be precise!!
Gives a real sense of how puny we really are in size to these "wessels". Great video!!!
Gotta bump up those ambient occlusion samples :)
Interpolated for you. ;)
lol, thanks. Great vid.
Mat Recardo the vid made me sub
I've watched this video like 10 times, and I've clicked "like" each time before I watched it. Makes me wonder why TH-cam isn't logging likes correctly.
Great video. Also, is it worth adding the Remlok logo when the pilot appears (representing the manufacturer of their life support mask)?
Note to the Frontier Development Team,
Please take note on the level of detail the Asp Scout and the Asp Explorer have in this video. The Asp Explorer in deed lacks the same level of detail as the Asp Scout. Please correct this, it should be somewhat of copy & paste to the Explorer model in some regards. Thanks and keep up the great work on Elite. You all ROCK!
MR,
Awesome vids, keep up the great work. Always awesome and fun to watch!
i wish i could like twice :D
perfect choice of music, very fitting for the video.
Can you pilot every of these ships ?
Not the two capitals at the end but the rest, yes.
Mat Recardo awesome !
Don't think you can pilot a bannana.
*cries*
Don't think you can pilot a pilot either.
I love watching these, fantastic work!!! o7 Commander!!!
Excellent video, but in my opinion it could do with some real world vehicles mixed in to keep the sense of scale. The pilot model is so dwarfed by the larger ships that it can get a bit lost!
Check my other scale videos, I've already done that. This is pure in-game stuff.
No you haven´t. Put in a Car or a Truck in Comparison. With the Model of a human or pilot with seat its hard to compare. If i ask myself: "Will my Cobra fit in my street, it is not easy to answer this question, with just the pilot or human.
Awesome video, great music...and a space loach to boot....sweet!
I want to pilot an Orbis station please Frontier
wonderfully made video. Loved the music.
Space loach xD
I really like the presentation. The camera angle, movement, reference object for sizing, the music. Hard to find quality short clip these days.
just wanted to say that i highly approve of your music choice
Awesome video. Really put things into perspective, especially why I die so quickly when getting interdicted by these ships. ;)
All that and the F63 condor is my definite favorite, no questions asked.
I don't know why but that video was super satisfying
I do love these sorts of comparison vids. And I can't tell you just how much I laughed at it starting with a banana :D
Would be nice to see an updated video with all the stations and outposts, as well as the new megaships added in 2.3
Excellent piece of work, thanks for sharing.
I was so ready to applaud loudly and wildly as the camera zoomed back down to the banana....
Awesome video! Brings a sense of scale I feel the game can be lacking sometimes. I didn't realise how big Eagles are!
Fantastic, many thanks for the hard work, I will keep my Diamondback Explorer for a long time before higher jumps
I knew it, it all started from banana !
great video btw
The sheer variety of capital ships in ED since it's launch in 2014 is amazing!
Absolutely beautiful work. A++
I love the ships and mechanics. If only there was gameplay to Elite, it would be perfect.
Excellent work - certainly puts my Cobby3 into perspective!
nice :)
didn't expect the eagle to be as big as the viper
You've just convinced me to buy this game. Who cares if I have 550 MB less than the recommended amount of RAM?
Also, great choice of music and the Tesco banana was a nice addition, as they tend to be more like baby bananas.
Very well done. Good music selection too.
