The amount of work put into what is basically cutscenes is astouding. I'm a new ED player and was transfixed just by FSD jumping, this is another level.
You'd be surprised just how much work goes into making Elite Dangerous a immersive game. For example, did you know that you can experience a Fleet Carrier departing from and arriving to the area you're in? Coverwatch (this video's uploader) has a couple videos for those situations, titled "Elite Dangerous - Fleet Carrier Hyperspace Jump Departure (Outside View)" and "Elite Dangerous - Fleet Carrier Hyperspace Jump Arrival (Outside View)". P.S. Welcome to the galaxy, Commander! If you ever need help understanding your way around the galaxy, don't be afraid to ask. (Although, don't ask me - I'm new too! haha)
Welcome to the galaxy, Commander. If you need any help, you can contact me. I can help you set up your ship for passenger run near for credit grind to buy bigger ships. O7.

Whoop Whoop Whoop. Greetings and o7 commander. Having a blast myself owning a Victory Class Carrier for a week now. Grind is quite long and boring if you play by yourself but there are very helpful communities out there to help you get the cash quickly. Ping me if you decide to try the game.
Carriers are a money sink. Not just the initial purchase of 5 BILLION credits for the barebones setup, but also the additional purchases of services that many players deem essential for many valid reasons to make it a truly mobile base. Then there's the fact that you have to pay UPKEEP because what you have also done is hire a crew via an intermediary company, you are paying the crew to upkeep YOUR carrier FOR YOU. That's lore direct from the game. And the more services you get, the higher the upkeep costs. You can disable those services to mitigate the upkeep costs and even disband those services entirely, but you can only do these things and more in specific systems that support Carrier Administration of whatever it's called. It's been over a year since I last played and I'm due to go back in and assess whether or not my Carrier is at risk of decommission. When you fail to pay the upkeep you become delinquent and the extraneous services are locked out (and probably more, don't remember, it's been a long time). Either you pay the debt or your nice Carrier gets repo'd. So don't buy one unless you're me who likes the Carrier as a mobile base and yet doesn't play ED often because I get bored of it quickly. Join a discord, make friends and savor your time playing ED because it is an ocean wide yet ankle deep with no new ships in years. FDev breaks promises and disguises it as simply backtracking on their word and changing what they'll deliver while being somewhat ambiguous. Don't buy the Odyssey expansion, you're better off playing Star Citizen or Helldivers 2 if you want that kind of boots-on-the-ground experience. Odyssey is bland, empty, boring and the rock-paper-scissors dynamic with the firearms is ridiculous. But hey, now you have a mobile base that can also serve as your own personal shop, warehouse and even your BANK! Well...private bank...technically. You need to store your credits on your Carrier and from that the upkeep is paid. You can transfer credits remotely too which is neat.
depends how you play - I was considering grabbing my first carrier as a solo player shortly before I got distracted by something shiny and took a break - was only playing for maybe half a year, and not at all trying to grind... kind of the opposite. I liked Elite especially for the lack of grind (mostly - there absolutely are grinds if you like that stuff lol) - I'd do space trucking when I felt like it and the core gameplay is so engaging it doesn't feel like a slog at all... and I was rolling in credits - buuuuut to each their own probably wont know what you like until you try it.
It's pure chance, sometimes the transition is seamless, sometimes there is a split second disruption. Hyperspace exit is the same, it is seamless in this video yet sometimes it abruptly arrives at destination.
So sad the game is going p2w soon :( This game is amazing the way it is, but the massive potential it still has is absurd. Unfortunately I don't think FDev will be capable of tapping into it.
I stopped playing when they changed the game so much that I didn’t enjoy it anymore. Then when I logged back in several months later I lost my carrier, like they punished me. If they think I’ll come back and go through all the grind to get another one, they’re crazy. I really hate what they did to the game that played for over 5000 hours. (That is not a typo).
That's a very big friendship drive.
The sound effects are outstanding

Free cam for filming all parts of the F.carrier on moving during the cooling, best vidéo ? hard job ?
Free cam doesn't work when the timer hits zero and jump begins. It switches you back to the captain seat. I tried.
