@ScratchMB Great video! Just a quick question. Suppose I Don't want to install a 2017 Cluster. Is there anyway that I can use the right side SWC on the head unit? If so do I wire the 3 wires from the right Side SWC to the same input wires on the head unit? Thank you in advance for your reply

This maybe crazy but is there a way to connect those buttons on the right with a retro fit gauge ?

Crazy? No. Retro fit with gauge? Yes. I have already done it, on part 3

Thanks for the tutorial. What head unit do you have?

You’re welcome! I have the Sony XAV-AX6000, which has wireless apple car-play as well

Do you need to use the 2017+ clock spring as well or does the pre-facelift clock spring work and pass the same number of pins as the 2017+

I used the oem clock spring that came with my 2014 FRS, i'm not sure if you can use the 2017 clock spring, that is dependant on the pin connectors, and i'm not sure if it's just plug and play.

Might be a dumb question but is the plug for the steering controls on the 2017+ wheel different than the 2013-2016? From what I’ve seen the plug looks pretty much the same or are the wires just in completely different places and that’s why it’s needed to repin ?

@@nolimitjayo6375 my car is a 2014, and I used the 2017 special edition steering wheel if that helps. The connectors are different from the oem steering wheel that doesn’t come with the buttons compared to the one that does come with the buttons. Not sure if it’s only because mine is a 2014 to 2017 steering wheel, or if a 2014 steering wheel that came with buttons would be a different connector.

@@ScratchMByea I’ve been checking online for a bunch of connectors and stuff and found 2013-2016 without buttons only have a 10 pin plug + 4 pin for the paddle shifters if auto. And wheels with buttons have 12 pin plug + 4 pin for paddle shifters. I’m planning to do a 2013 FRS for my sister but it’s automatic so I have to deal with the paddle shifters wires, and i have a 2023 brz steering wheel to work with. It has every button on that wheel which is way more then yours on the video, I was wondering if you had instagram so I can poke your head for some questions about how to figure out the wiring since I imagine it’ll be different since the wheel is from 2023 and has way more wires. Physically it’s pretty much identical to the 2017 wheel but just some extra wires for lane keep I believe, which I may have to sacrifice and leave unconnected but just let me know where I can contact you for some tips and help

@@nolimitjayo6375 yea, you can definitely contact me, my instagram is Finessa_FRS i’m not sure how that would work since you only have so many slots for wires, i’m also not sure if you can combine any either

Hey, perhaps you know if I had already retrofitted the 2018+ tacho would the controls on the right side of the steering wheel comunicate with the display without having to play with the harness?

If you want to wire in the steering wheel to the instrument cluster there is going to be 3 wires to need to run to the instrument cluster connector. Those 3 colors from the steering wheel buttons themselves should be the Dark Green, Orange, and Purple wires. The orange wire will go in pin slot 23, the Purple wire will go into pin slot 26 and the dark green wire will go into pin slot 29. I just did that retrofit a couple days ago and figured out the wiring for myself

Thanks a lot, that means that I should extend those 3 cables from after the clock springs to the instrument cluster correct?

@@superbock3932 Yes you should, I actually already ran and connected my wires to my connector for the instrument cluster, I also made a video on it, and i'm actually working on editing it currently.

Whats the steering wheel model? 2017? I retrofitted a digital cluster Subaru +17 on my frs 2014, i shall buy an steering wheel +17?

By the way, u got any source or forum that u used to do this retrofit?

    • @Boblina
      @Boblina 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@86imports Don't know about cluster but yes buy a 17+ steering wheel. A gen 2 steering wheel will also fit, but I'm not sure if it has the exact same wiring as a 17+ gen 1 wheel. You can use a 17+ gen 1 airbag with a gen 2 steering wheel.

Sorry for the delayed response, I hardly view comments anymore. I used a 2017+ steering wheel. My specific one was the Special Edition Red GT86 steering wheel. I bought it off ebay. As far as what fits and doesn’t, really any first gen 86 platform steering wheels should work. Just depends what and how many buttons you actually want to work/have.
When it comes to a source from the forums, not really, I found the different wire names and just trial and errored my way through it to get it to work. It was very easy. The video should definitely have enough information so nobody has to go through what I went through. Also the forums website I think is nearing its end or it already has ended. Every time I go on it it’s down.
