Sony really needs to improve that selfie camera. Desperately haha. But overall I prefer the versatility of the Xperia 5s apps. Plus Sony is amazing for bringing into lightroom. Most the time the crushed or blown out images actually still retain detail when you lower highlights in lightroom. Great video man 📷

@@puellobeats that's still not an excuse for having such a poor selfie camera haha. It it doesn't matter who the phone is aimed towards, the camera is still junk. As a manual user myself sometimes I take selfies with my girlfriend or family. I usually just flip my Xperia 1 around to take photos with the main sensor though since the selfie camera is such junk.

I would say that overall, I would give the win to the iPhone, especially from a normal user's perspective who just wants to snap photos. I don't think so. Sonys style is True to life. They have always been that way since Samsung started using Willie Wonka colors. Same goes for those TVs. Computational is a style but leans more to surrealism rather than realism which Sony chooses intentionally. Sony definitely can do computational photography as seen with their upscaling tech, but they respect content creators as owners of movie studios, pro camera lines, etc so the original intent and vision is important as to stay unbiased towards a style that apple, google and samsung chose. For example, computationally enhanced images usually lose contrast to*HDR the image, but because of that everything becomes flatter and u lose the focus of what's the main story of the image because *everything becomes the focus like the grass, sky etc in a overly HDR image. It's pleasing to the eye as eyecandy, but not as real.

Xperia 5 ii did the better job for me. Although iPhone is much brighter when it comes to low light condition but the Xperia has the PPA to edit that. As I can see in all the sample you've shown, those photos on the right side taken with Xperia using the App, still way much better than just the brightness of iPhone. The colors and scenery looks true to life. Also the stabilization is i think much better than the iPhone this time, even better than the 1 ii. Anyway, I really love watching in your channel not because of being fan of Xperia but because your reviews are fair. Also, I like your accent especially when you saying the word photo. I saying it after you but I can't 😁

iPhone does much better job with zero efforts and time waste. This is what I want and what mobile photography is supposed to be about. Sony is clearly missing the point. I'm sorry but if I want to shoot in RAW and spend my time (which I don't have) in Lightroom, I will take a proper camera - my Cannon 5D Mark III with high quality L-lens. So iPhone is the clear winner.

@@democritus37I can understand that - reviewer is a dedicated fan of Sony brand, and owner of Xperia 1 II so a little bias approach is expected. Apple is clearly showed huge commitment to mobile photography since release of iPhone X. Sony is just trying or I'd say playing. There are two things I really hate about the latest Sony flagship camera-phones are the price and ... use of Samsung camera sensors (2 out of 4!). Can't understand and forgive the last drawback at all.

I'm guessing the auto white balance is trying to turn the dark blue-grey sky into actual grey, which makes the rest of the image yelllowed due to that color compensation

  • @explodingheavens
    @explodingheavens 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You get the best focus with eye af on xperia and also best colors, but to have satisfactory output the best way is to use pro app as it focuses better, also use jpeg+raw so in case of bad auto shot you can tune down highlights and bring up details in shadows. Sadly its not using quad bayer and little to no stacking so you got to do it manually. If it couldntake hdr raw it would be a little better than auto mode as auto may stack some frames which make simple raw inferior.
Its just too much trouble for ordinary user, but those who know a little about shooting will love it though.

My main criticism here is that you have not used the iPhone PRORAW format to compare against the Xperia 5ii RAW. Having used both phones, the PRORAW files are amazing to edit in LR and I reckon would give superior results to any RAW file from the 5ii. But that wouldn’t play well with the Sony fanboy audience who refuse to acknowledge the shortcomings of the Xperia camera capabilities I guess 😉

I'd say start by always trying to keep the ISO as low as possible. Mess around with the shutter speed. Get a feel for how to use that, then start to test out the white balance settings.
*Also if shooting in bright conditions make sure Auto-HDR or D-Range optimiser is on in the settings menu.

Overall, the Sony did better especially on the Raw stock images. Iphone in low light is quite poor but, the Pro app certainly makes Sony grand.
What's shocking is how poor the regular camera is on the Sony. You'd think being a camera company this would be really good and yet launching the Pro Mode would make images even better.
I have done some low light images comparing to a Samsung S21 and, Samsung somewhat nails it. During normal day light images, the regular Sony camera blows away Samsungs and the Pro app oh wow.
Overall, I am very happy with my Sony 5ii no complaints.

I would say the iPhone takes the win in low light for me. If you consider those pictures are snapped in a second, that is really impressive. Some of the photos looked a bit ‘plasticy’ though. Whereas the Sony would be more true to life and color accurate, the sharpness/blur issues (long shutter speed and shaky hand) ruined most of the pictures. And like you said, this is how most people would use the phone in everyday life, no tripod...
I guess I just value sharpness a bit more than the color accuracy in this case.

Sorry to say it but the iPhone 12 seems to be the best considering you just 'use it', whereas the Sony 5 ii you are getting (mostly) ordinary or terrible shots of the default camera app and then having all that extra advantage in LR with the Raw's. And I just bought the Sony 5 ii coz I couldn't stand the Apple ecosystem and Siri and... So I'm interested to see how learning the Photo Pro and Cinema Pro goes on the Sony. Seems like Sony just needs to get the apps calibrated properly. Have give big kudos to Apple here, and as usual Apple draws a line in the sand for others to match or beat. Come on Sony, give Apple some real competition here and get those camera's rendering properly.

Things I learnt.: The mics on the iPhone are awful. The rave in this case about iPhone cameras is valid as it's exceptional in near-med distance object shots. iPhone loves warming up photos to a fault. Xperia 5ii stock is bad in a lot of situations. Xperia is better when you have the opportunity to setup photos and have learnt what the settings do.

Use some tripod for god sake ... Every damn Xperia photos are blury, even the RAW one! It's where u see all the difference between Iphone and Sony ... If you're looking for the best photo straight out of the box and the more user friendly interface, Iphone win all the way. But if you want to take ur time and improve ur skill, the Xperia photo pro app is unbelievable!

This is just sad, iPhone 12 pro max has better picture quality overall out from the box. Jeez why sony's picture is just terrible without photoshop editing, sony should step their game up. Apple is really serious about the camera on their phones, always been the best. It's 2021 and top phone companies still can not compete with apple's camera.

@@basselaltaji2171 yes. Thats why go program auto. (I think its called program auto if they follow Sony mirrorless and DSLT names closely) and the reason for the 24mm lens is because its the widest aperture and therefore can see a big difference compared to the rest of the lenses.
