Navigating the channels of the Great Sandy Straits & dealing with breakdowns on the boat - S 2 Ep 56

- In today’s episode we finally leave Gary’s Anchorage at K’Gari and wind our way through the narrow channels of the Great Sandy Straits to Big Woody Island for a catch up with friends.
Our early start next morning goes awry when the engine won’t start but eventually we’re underway across Hervey Bay to the Burnett River and a stop in the Bundaberg Port Marina.
And if you love seafood, we’ve got great news for you in the video.

Cheers guys!
Thanks Trev
Nice docking and great use of the 360 camera. We’ve got one for next season and can’t wait to start using it 👍🏻⛵️😊
Thanks for the docking comment. It worked OK but doesn't change the stress levels when there's current involved. We spent a summer as Flotilla Leaders in Greece, med mooring up to 11 boats every day, seven days a week, for the whole summer and that was a piece of cake in a fin keel boat compared to tight marina berths on our old girl. We love her though. You'll really like the 360. We're just starting to learn how to use it but can see enormous potential. Cheers!
Yet another lovely video. Can’t wait to join you out there somewhere in the next few months when we cast off our lines as well.
Thanks so much. We're glad you enjoyed it and really appreciate you taking the time to comment. It would be great to share an anchorage sometime. Cheers!
Thanks to both of you for another very enjoyable episode. We are planning cruising from Gold Coast up to Bundaberg in February & March on our "new to us" ketch. We do not yet have sat communication onboard and would welcome your thoughts on the availability of internet on that section of the coast to get weather data.
Thanks for the lovely comment Martyn. It's great to hear you're getting underway soon. From our experience you'll have phone service nearly everywhere between the Gold Coast and Bundaberg (Telstra). We can't really comment on others. The only real spot you may have trouble is north of Noosa until you round Double Island Point although we found it much better on this trip up and only lost service briefly. Cheers!
@@Dreamtimesail Thanks, I will look into Telstra plans for the 2 months we will be there.
Maybe we can have a ketch party sometime.🙂
@@martynlemarquand191 sounds like a great idea.
16:03 you definitely got her in there like the pro you are, however a bow thruster wouldn’t be unjustified on a vessel her size? Ps I’ve never priced one? and not sure you really need one, (sailing 1/2 way around the world and now you need one?) just thinking to less the stress! So to speak
A bow thruster would certainly be helpful Trev but out of our price range unfortunately. Better plan is to stay out on the hook whenever we can. Cheers!
No shortage of jobs on a boat 😄
Ain't that the truth. All part of the life.
