HOW TO GET BETTER AT SMITE!! (Pt. 1)

  • I've been wanting to make this video/series for a while now because I think it's fun to talk about and although you can learn a lot of specific things from watching my gameplay, I never really talk about general things like this. This advice is mainly for Smite but it definitely can be translated a bit to other games and other competitive aspects of life (hopefully)! The next part of this series will try to go into very Smite specific rule of thumbs & how to play the conquest map correctly.
    Stop making excuses for yourself and blaming your teammates. Be honest with yourself and focus on things in your control - your gameplay and your attitude! Being a positive influence no matter what league you're will not only be helpful for your teammates, but it will benefit you in the long run. It's much harder to win games in a toxic team environment than it is without it! It's a video game at the end of the day, make sure you're having fun while staying competitive. Check those egos at the door always!

    I think TheOtherFrost put it best; "The two most common things holding players back from improving are arrogance and ignorance." As you said, having the right mindset is critical to improving. I just wish we had better access to the in-client replay system rather than having to record our gameplay ourselves.

    I'm new to Smite, hope this guide will help me. Thanks for uploading it.
    One thing, though about copying pros - while it's true even a regular player can learn a lot from them, one must keep in mind that the game environment a pro is playing in is usually vastly different than what the 'average Joe' is playing in. A pro will play and build according to their skill level and meta, and I've seen that when a hobby player like me copies pro gameplay, it can backfire horribly. Not just talking about trying to pull off crazy mechanical stunts, but also builds and decisionmaking. A pro will anticipate the decisionmaking of similar top tier players, but regular players, especially in lower ranks, will be mostly unpredictable and random.

Plus in casuals I get to play against the new god while they're still op, and if I can take them at their most op I can take them once they are nerfed. Plus I do have more than one friend lol

    I love these types of videos!! Keep it up Fineokay! Also I have to say that I am happy with the route you took with this video! I also have fun talking about smite 🤓
    All the topics you discussed in this video were about character, mindset, and ego. Which in my opinion are always the first factors anyone should consider when playing an online game. I think that a game that is competitive by design (A game like Smite) often makes us forget that we are all different people! Different people with different temperaments, this suffices to say that we should respect our differences and learn to play with those differences not without, this is a TEAM BASED game after all.
    Like I said above, I love the direction you went with this part 1! Now I hope to see a more mechanical and strategical breakdown of smite in a Part 2 :D

      Your mechanics should carry over a ton so understanding kits and interactions will be fine. What you should do is play a variety of roles and gods plus watch a variety of good players on Twitch or TH-cam and learn from them. Constantly be looking at the map and where people are on the map. In time you’ll learn how to read it and position correctly most of the time.

    Great video!
    I'd add that reviewing your specific game settings and understanding the pros and cons of different setups in these menu options is also very important for everyone, but particularly console players in terms of the "Controls" section. For PC players I know that different pros map controls differently, but I'm a console player and can provide my own experience and opinions here and leave PC folks to comment further for suggestions.
    For console players the default setting in the "Controls" section is "Challenger" but this is *HORRIBLE* for long term success at the game and I'll try to explain why below and some suggestions to improve your play.
    Changing to "Savage Plus" provides you the ability to fire all your abilities while keeping your thumbs on the thumbpad (joystick) controls which is important for aiming at moving targets. This is easy if you are just learning Smite and have very little time invested in developing muscle memory, but will completely mess up your games if you have played Smite for long enough to not even think about how you do X or Y and everything is just instinct from hours & hours of play. If you fall into this established player group it will be much harder to relearn a new control setting, and you may find that "Savage Plus" is overwhelming in which case I'd strongly suggest looking at "Berserk" since this leaves all your ability button options the same as "Challenger" but allows you to activate potions and relics with single click making it faster and more reliable. The last option to consider for controls would be spending money on a Scuff controller which will allow you to customize your button layout and provide extra activation levers on the backside of the controller. Scuff controllers are legal within esport tournament play, including Smite, Madden, etc.
    BTW, I personally use Berserk and have two Scuff controllers. I WISH I had learned on Savage settings on a Scuff controller, but after years of playing Smite it was just easier for me to switch to Berserk and I found that I'm not dedicated enough to relearn thousands of hours of controller layout play to take full advantage of my Scuff controllers or attempt to learn "Savage Plus" layout but this is how I would introduce and advise any NEW CONSOLE Smite players to jump in and learn.
    PS - I edited to add "Great Video" into the first line of comments.

    • @KipVelcrono
      @KipVelcrono 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I personally feel like the abilities I'm hitting aren't hitting as hard as they can. I always thought it might be an issue of not building enough pen, but I'm kinda stuck on what items are good for him.

    • @miltonvillalba5172
      @miltonvillalba5172 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Rono Most mages are ability based some are just burst damage mages and some are dot mages, a few can do both like Ah Puch he can do both but most of his damage comes from this combo explosion so he’s considered a burst mage. Try building things on him that help to hit or for when you hit the combo on someone for example, I’ve found Shamans Ring is great on him, Gem of Isolation also helps to hit your full combo on people.if you wanted to do a little extra burst damage you could try building Ethereal Staff or Soul Reaver. The game splits gods into categories, Ability based and Auto/ basic attack based. Meaning you have to either hit abilities to do most of your damage or hit Basic attacks for most of your damage. For ability based gods try building things that help their abilities like cool down and Pen items.For basic attack gods try builds things like attack speed and power. I hope you understand and that this helps.

    The reason I not at my full potential is mostly confidence, not the most confident person in real life so whenever I think of a play I don’t feel like I can achieve it. Or if I need to be aggressive i don’t feel like I could do it.

      Maybe lean towards the other roles then, try it every once and a while to stay fresh

    weak3n did something similar to this and one of the major differences between this and his was you should only play one role and only the best 3 gods in that role so which one should i be doing?

    • @mr.neverseengaming7253
      @mr.neverseengaming7253 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found it beneficial to atleast know the basic attacks/passives of all gods so to have more knowledge of your opponent if just a lil bit. So experiment with the gods. I would recommend maining atleast 2 roles because alot of the time you won't get the role you want.

    • @sonysdad4709

      MR.NEVERSEEN Gaming yeah I play support and mainly jungle because it’s the same role but I know how to play every role except I’m bad at solo but I tend to play all kinds of gods in every role and do well but I was wondering for my friends that are newer or less experienced since I’ve been playing for a few years

    Yeah, well but what about people who feed the other team and clearly rely on being carried by someone else. So, therefore, you carry, die a lot, and then eventually lose. That is frustrating when you make your builds correct, stack basics, and get camps and or the giants before they do... So in my opinion, when people need blaming because they're not pulling THEIR weight the process of the battle that people call "chores" thenceforth that is completely obnoxious, AMAZING video, I myself did agree with 99% of the video except for one part. Great job! I will catch you in the battle maybe? :) -Olivia

    As a casual who start Smite again after being beta tester in 2012 i really can't understand teammates that end with scores : 1/9/2; 0/14/12; 0/12/2 and so on.

    Any guides or resources for positioning? I've been playing smite for years and I feel like it's my weakest skill and has directly contributed to countless individual and team losses. It's a skill I think that a person just learns over time, but I really struggle with it when playing against diamond/masters.

    I feel like this is aimed towards kinda seasoned, experienced players who for a reason or the other can't climb the ladder.
    I started playing about a week ago, so most of this stuff is irrelevant for me now. while it still somewhat applies to me, there's so much i still need to understand. Could you please make a guide for beginners who wanna learn good habits of the game?

    • @DudeImFonz
      @DudeImFonz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That will be part 2! Need to have a good mentality and plan before anything imo. Also for the most part, to get better at Smite or any role, you watch a lot of gameplay and guides. I have those all over my TH-cam!

  • @Th3og0ny

    I will say... I do tend to overstep my boundaries when I know a team fight could be handled differently. For example, I'm jgling and I call out gank carry lane. I know the support typically should be the first guy in the tower and point that out to them. After a while, I'll think that maybe tower diving wasn't necessarily a smart idea at the time.
    Bottom line... I know what you're saying. Even if something does go wrong, I should think what I could've done differently.

    Also, I want to buy stone of gaia some games just for the sustain out of combat and between fights, warriors don't seem to have anything to help with it aside from glad shield, self heals, or FG... I really like characters like osiris, cu culian, nike, etc, but still, prioritizing clear vs poke, and sustain is tough.

      The only way you will ever get good at building is by learning what each God is capable of, and the only way to TRULY understand that is by playing a lot.
      FineOkay does a great job of explaining *why* he builds what he builds in his play-by-plays.
      Instead of focusing on the items he gets, pay more attention to the reasoning behind his choices.
      The *why,* not the *what,* because items may change.
