This is a great demonstration of using just a C major pentatonic in a c blues (for tpt), a lot of reliance on the A - 13th against the C chord but 3rd against the F chord, just sounds at home, in side, reassuring a bluesy all in one. Some outside chromatic stuff but always coming back home at the start of each chorus. It’s accessible, not saying fuck you to the audience with nothing but outside notes. Great transcription too, thanks for whoever did that, great resource for students
I appreciate your analysis. I too finally learned how to actually blow on the blues when I figured out Charlie Christian just used the major pentatonic lol. Ignore everyone else. Playing from the soul is the end goal but you’re not gonna magically get cracked by thinking about altered notes forever. Have a good one!
In-freakin’-deed! That’s some brilliant blues playing with every chorus being a gem. Although slower, it reminds me of Freddie Hubbard’s ‘Birdlike’ in that respect
How do you polish your gold plated trumpet and get rid of the tarnished silver under the gold? I have my Getzen Genesis 3003 and myy Lawler scratch gold plated and am worried how to polish.
This solo is a perfect balance of simple clean standard riffs and complicated flashy runs. Simple is key, and this trumpet player knows it. Loved it.

@@jazzdorefree194 mad flex man, you really got me there.
Idk man, analyze away, I just think he was playing from the soul.
@@jazzdorefree194 Your entire comment was a really great way of saying, as the OP pointed out earlier, "fuck you" to the audience.
@@DeepCrossing1 respect for being humble

There is no such thing as a bad performance at Emmet's. This was wonderful and a great transcription as well.
So true 🐬
Yeah, nah, some performances a less interesting than others
Mike can play. Very soulful. He has a nice sound and his very own style. Hats off!
Rhythmic variation with intelligence. What a well thought out horizontal timeline. Badass.
This is a perfect trumpet blues solo. Very clean, smooth, classy and sounding nice. Chefs kiss
That’s the beauty of jazz, everyone can have their own favorites.
Nice use of space. And... goosing the rhythm section now and then. Groovy. Good work.
Yeahhh, Michael is killin
Who are these incredible players? Wow! Each one stellar!
Emmet Cohen has regular house concerts that he streams to youtube. Check it out!
@@DaanSchreuder Emmet or his guests never disappoint!
Got the chance to work with Michael Rodriguez earlier this year, he’s an amazing player and a wonderful musician to learn from
excellent transcription, what a killer solo.
Very nice. Getting a lot of Kind of Blue vibes.

people sleep on how much complexity you can apply to relatively simple vocabulary
I'm glad you decided to make a transcription of these dudes, I love them so much
had the pleasure of being around mike at a summer improv program at nyu, such a killer player and teacher!
That was indeed TASTY
Damn great. So funny, i didnt recognize who it was, then like halfway way through i read the descript... Mike Rodriguez. Ahhh, no wonder lol. Big fan
Love it, the musicians were so connected it didn't feel like it was a solo
That was brutal blues! Wow! I've still got the stank face. 👏🏾👏🏾❤👌🏾

I love the love, but any tips on polishing 24kt scratch gold plate so that I don't ruin my horns?
Dat comping tho
where do i download this piece ? i want to try it for myself :)
Do you have the whole tune recorded? I'd like to hear the whole chart, not just this solo.
WHy is the bass player so sweaty?
What kind of blues/jazz is this?
Its a bebop tune, but the way they play it is alot more contemporary
What song is this
Visa by Charlie Parker
What's his name???
Mike Rodriguez
Little bit of Clifford aye
I’m not a trumpet player, but I am a jazz musician and to me this guys sounds a lot like Clifford Brown
Not one little bit! What do you know???
@@GeoCoppens I guess not too much, I’m a saxophone player. I don’t listen to many trumpet players.
The bass player 😶
Sax looks like he has to poo so bad the whole time
"TASTIEST blues solo"
Yeah, it WAS tasty.
But, the "TASTIEST"???
That's a personal decision, I believe.
Tone is poor.

Comment is poor.
