What I love about the blues is that it’s a style of music that you can make as simple, or as complicated as you want to harmony wise. As a guitar player I love finding new ways to play blues. It’s a very old style of music, but it’s the gift that keeps on giving.
I used to play piano with some Chicago blues players when they toured Brazil, and one of our famous sayings was: "Blues is the easiest style of music to play... poorly."
Phenomenal improve. Guitar player here. I use piano to understand theory a little better. Did not expect that level of improv from this video. Fantastic stuff throughout the whole video
Emmet, everything you play clearly comes from the heart ❤️ I spent several weeks on lesson one, really internalizing your suggestions, fillers and it’s helping a lot .. seeing the transcriptions of your incredible arrangements has been a huge help .. I will work on that left hand.. great blues tips
I'm captivated to striding techniques which I believe is still the most dexterous techniques. I must say the 10s with and strides is the mechanism while the right hand the accomplice 😂 I've gotten you. Thanks!
Amazing video. I’m a huge of your channel and this is one of the best videos Ive ever watched on TH-cam. Great job! Please record more content with Emmitt!!! Cheers
Thank you, Emmet! I learned a lot from this video. Left hand command is so the name of the game. Like on autopilot!! Now to put it into practice.... or at least practicing
I was practicing with the transcriptions. Im thankful for the work that was done but there are some mistakes (no porblem, it happens) for exemple in bar 56 in Edim7 chord its written an F instead of a G, also in bar 56 i belive Emmet plays a Db instead of a Bb in the first bass chord of the bar. Great great video, i didnt know anything about blues and this is defenetly helping me starting out! ty!
I permanently injured my left pinky, making it literally impossible to hit those. Def hurts for sure, but you don’t need them by any stretch. There are amazing musicians out there who are never able to hit those. Mess around and play with what works for your range or reach.
I wish there were courses like this, with this level of production quality and superb teaching, but for other genres. Specially Metal, my Prog heart cries for these harmonies, but not this way 🤌
Insightful lesson, thanks for breaking it down showing all those passing notes in the LH, Emmet. How important those bass notes are to moving music forward! 🎹 (I wish I didn't have to butterfly my 10ths - they give a rich solid sound for solo piano stride - but you showed more options using octaves and shells alternating with chords in the latter part of your lesson for those of us with smaller hand spans)
Why doesnt he play in C ? He knows we are noobs at this :-) He chooses the hardest tonality with Eb and dim and all that crazy stuff. Makes me give up .
Hey open , really nice video ! I was wondering if I could help you with more Quality Editing in your videos and also make a highly engaging Thumbnail and also help you with the overall youtube strategy and growth ! Pls let me know what do you think ?
One of the coolest things about Open Studio is the wonderful transcriptions by Max Gamiz.
oh my god!! I can literally watch hours of Emmet teaching, please do more
Perfect! Emmet is a gift to today's world.

"Just playing from my heart ". Yes Emmet ! We hear this ❤ 🎶you nailed it Bro !
Best jazz pianist in the world
Ray Bryant’s “Alone With The Blues” is THE encylcopedia for this style.
I really like him. Don’t his name mentioned much, so appreciate your comment
Love Ray Bryant. So under-rated.

This was good. Thanks for this.
Omg what an astounding watch ❤
Those tenths in the left hand can be a challenge but it’s such a lovely thick sound for the blues. Great video 🎯
tenth-spanners delight
More of Emmet please please!!!
More Emmet! This guy can tip the scales more in favor of pure blues!
I love the jazz too, but Emmet is a nice addition.

I'm captivated to striding techniques which I believe is still the most dexterous techniques. I must say the 10s with and strides is the mechanism while the right hand the accomplice 😂

Also I think in bar 51 he doesn't play the low F but the one above D
Please more videos covering how to transition over a blues
Man the tenths are really a stretch
I feel blessed to be able to reach them easily. I could never do it with both lol. Too much brain power.
Biden just signed an executive order making tenths in the left hand illegal
I permanently injured my left pinky, making it literally impossible to hit those.

@@funnychilli123 for sure there are kids who can't reach an octave Playing difficult pieces.
You can roll them so you don’t wreck your hand.
unreal teaching
❤Spectacular ❤️
JEEEEEZZ as a beginner it’s hard to comprehend how anyone can think this fast
To think fast practice slow
Emmet is cool. I am so lucky to live in NYC
I wish there were courses like this, with this level of production quality and superb teaching, but for other genres.

You just reminding me of Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson ❤. These two and others changed my orientation for decades now
Definitely a fan of the Lion and Fats. 10ths are great.
2:07 - 7:51
🐐 crossover
Man, come on, really??? 😃 Just awesome! Thank you!
Yea
Those GOD DAMN tenths..

Speak!
Now take it to the 12 keys and you’re good to go 😂😂 jokes aside this was an awesome lesson !! 🙏
Is there a way to only buy this course?
Ari Silverstein approves this lesson.
How can I practice to get bigger hands and reach at 10 with a 7 in beetween. :(
♥
this isn’t the lego movie
Respectable reference
How would you suggest to do the voicing if you can’t reach a tenth ?
Roll it, break it up
Can u get Ben Paterson
ben has tons of teaching stuff online man
@@cashglobe I know he does. I have em. i just want to see a collab. his style is my favourite. plus i just wanna see him play more
why? its up to me
Why doesnt he play in C ? He knows we are noobs at this :-) He chooses the hardest tonality with Eb and dim and all that crazy stuff. Makes me give up .
Eb is great my dude. Stick with it.
Quartal harmony...!???
Emmet also loves young women as a man in a position in power but that doesn’t mean we should too!
no
Hes so hot😭
Why does he look like the CIA dude that you see on TH-cam shorts
Anthony bustemonte or whatever lol
😂😂😂 bebop jazz please
Daily videos of wrong notes🔥
I wish I could play that wrong. 🙂
They are called blue notes..
Found the guy with no ears
I hate the blues.
I hate the blues
Good for you.
Sounds like you got the blues
@@GizzyDillespee.....🤣🤣🤣🤣...most definitely

Cool story bro
