    Great video. One thing about plugging the mic directly into the computer is it will likely be out of sync with the video because HDMI has a lag. If the mic is plugged into the camera, the audio and video travel over the HDMI cable to the computer at the same time. If the mic is plugged directly into the computer, the audio will arrive ahead of the video and be out of sync.

      Hi Lenzy, very, very good points. I should've probably mentioned that some applications such as zoom may not allow any kind of audio delay setting like OBS would. Dammit I wish TH-cam would allow us to edit our videos once they are published. It makes me crazy that they cannot! Anyhow, great suggestion and point and I really appreciate your feedback. All the best to you sir!

    Good stuff cheers :) One thing you missed was the trick you can use to get the Fuji into its video recording mode without saving to the SD card. This means you can use the autofocus speed/tracking settings (which are disabled unless recording) without actually filling up your card and not worry about your auto-shutoff settings. I just did a video on my channel about this point and a few other settings which are useful. Hope you don't mind me mentioning it here :)

    Another awesome tutorial. As an X-T3 owner who had thought of doing this it's super helpful. However, it's not a dirt cheap solution when you add up the needed hardware and accessories.
    For the budget minded people out there I just thought I would mention that the webcam solution I went with was just using my smartphone since it has a very decent camera and microphone built in and it's possible to use it as a webcam just by downloading an app. If you don't want to spend money on a capture card, cables etc. or don't have time to wait for those items to arrive your smartphone can be very capable alternative.
    I'm not saying it's going to be totally on par with something like an X-T3 and an exquisite lens it but video and audio quality on a lot of newer camera phones will be more than fine for Skype/Zoom/Hangouts etc. In any case your phone is often able to produce video quality which is far better than most webcams. The nice part is that no extra hardware is needed to get a good webcam out of your phone. I use an app called iVCam which will set you back $9.99 if you want 1080p quality without their logo in the corner of the picture. It works great with both Android phones and iPhones. On Android phones you need to figure out how put your phone in developer mode and enable USB debugging though. That's easy enough if you google how to do it. With iPhones you don't have to change any settings but instead it's required to have iTunes installed on your computer in addition to the iVCam software. Then you're good to go.

    • @pal2tech
      @pal2tech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Thor, thank you for posting this information. That is actually an excellent solution to use a smartphone and definitely better on the budget. While you don't get the choice of lenses obviously, it's so important to at least try and improve the picture quality and some of today's smartphones can certainly help a lot in that regard. You have me really thinking about making a separate video just on using a phone for a WebCam on a budget - as I think that will also be helpful for a lot of people. Thanks again for the great tip and info!

    Hi Chris, thanks for the countless videos that have been and continue to be a great help to me in operating my cameras. I am aware that I am asking a question about an older video here, but maybe it still reaches you. In the 5th generation Fujifilm X cameras, there is a "USB webcam" connection setting. This apparently allows you to easily connect the cameras to a Mac/PC and use them as a webcam without any additional software. I would be interested to know what differences there are to the connection via the Webcam2 app and whether using the app for the new cameras still makes sense. Maybe this is also a topic for a new video?

  • @hand-heldblender8107

    Thanks a lot! You always share the video that we need :) Due to the current nightmare, my wife had to close her yoga-Pilates gym. She tries to keep the groups together through insta and zoom. Her gym studio now looks like as a media studio. Your video is very important. One step further to “broadcast” quality yoga and Pilates gym cours. Quality is not only a good gym training. The video quality is as important as the skill of the trainer.

    • @pal2tech
      @pal2tech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Laszlo,
      I am so sorry to hear that - but it sounds like you guys are definitely making the best out of the situation. Even if you don't have a high-end camera or multiple high-end cameras, you can definitely improve the quality of the video/production through good lighting and background obviously. And I agree with you totally that the quality of the video is just as important as the skill of the trainer. I would say that all things considered, the #1 priority I would do is good audio. The reason being is that a number of people will play these videos on mobile devices and they are not always watching them all the time - but rather listening to them in short periods while they are doing other things -- stretching, etc. for gym videos. Over and over and over again I see that having good audio will save a bad video but bad audio will kill a good video - if that makes any sense. Anyhow, I hope her gym does well and all the best you both!

    You know this is one of the best resources on the internet on this topic, but with my X-E3 (which, I will note now, has in the past completely worked with no problem), getting the camera HDMI output to stop showing all the camera UI info (modes, etc, all the stuff that shows up on the camera LCD) is something I can't figure out. I have figured it out in the past, because I have been using this camera for work Zoom meetings (etc) for 2 years, but after some incidents it no longer works.
    I wish Fuji UI was not absolutely the worst possible thing.

It works with all camera brads/models as long as it is digital and has a USB interface.

    Very timely topic. The biggest challenge is finding the Elgato CamLink 4K in stock. I haven't seen it available since people started sheltering at home. BestBuy had the Elgato HD60S+ on sale for nearly the same price ($165) but it's sold out now too. (I don't know if it's in stock elsewhere.)

      @pal2tech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tim, yes, they are not in stock anywhere that I could find! I think it's easier to find the Lost Arc than it is to find the Elgato cam link 4K. That being said, because of this hassle, I did release another video recently that discusses how to connect a smart phone as a WebCam. Have a look at it here: th-cam.com/video/1rXsWPEZosQ/w-d-xo.html. Hope this helps! Take care buddy!

    Perfect timing. Thank you so much for creating this video. When using an X-T3 as a webcam for Skype or Zoom style meetings what FPS would you suggest? FHD or 4K? Bit rate?

    • @pal2tech
      @pal2tech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Victor, very good question. So much of this will all depend on your upstream bandwidth. First off, you need to go to Google and do a search for "speed test broadband". Then, run the test. Forget the download - that does not matter. You are looking for upload. If you have 4Mb per second or higher, then there's no reason why you can't try and send a 4K signal. That being said, since most of the people who will be watching your online video window will be doing so on a tiny device or on a computer with a small window, you really don't need to go much beyond FHD. I would actually start with that and see what it looks like and get feedback - perhaps run a test with a friend, etc. As far as frame rate is concerned I would recommend 30 frames per second. Although you will hear a number of streamers mention they use 60 frames per second, this is silly for regular online meetings. You would really only want to use 60 frames per second if you are doing gaming and you are showing an online game interaction which is using 60 frames per second output. But for a regular business style or zoom meeting then 30 frames per second is perfect.

    Thanks for all your precious content! just a bench of questions:
    - how long does the battery last connected via usb cable from computer using it as a webcam without cam link?-
    - if i decide to have a better resolution using camlink and so using mini hdmi cable..in that case can i keep the camera plugged in via usb just to avoid that the battery discarghe faster?
    I need to handle a streaming event that last two hours, will be enough with one battery? ( i have xt4)

    Hi. I finally got the Elgato Cam Link 4K (from an eBay seller). It worked great. Then I watched the podcast and followed the directions for updating my Fuji Xt-3 firmware and downloaded the software to use the camera directly as a webcam (into the USB port). Since doing so, I can no longer run the camera through Cam Link. The applications (eg, Skype) “see” Cam Link 4K but when I select it, the image is black. (No lens cap on, camera is on, aperature and iso set properly, etc.) Did the firmware update ruin the ability to use Cam Link? Thanks Pal2Tech. Long time viewer, first time commenter!

    • @pal2tech
      @pal2tech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Scott, I'm not entirely sure since I don't know the computer setup you have, USB cords you are using etc. I can tell you that the firmware should NOT ruin the ability to use CamLink. I installed the firmware also and it's working with no trouble so the issue must be something else. You might want to reach out to CamLink directly for this one, as they may have a solution -- I'm sorry but I'm stumped with the info here and trying to figure it out.

      pal2tech hi! I am amazed you replied so quickly. I absolutely love your podcasts. Educational and entertaining. Your enthusiasm is infectious. So, my issue: cam link 4K that I bought off an eBay seller (theoretically new). Micro USB to HDMI cable. MacBook Pro (mid 2015, Core 7, 16 gb of RAM, etc). This morning my setup worked with OBS, Teams, Zoom. This afternoon as I prepped to teach my class (using BlueJeans), the Cam Link would appear as an option, but there was no video. Just a blank screen where the video feed should be. I retried in OBS and others, including FaceTime and nothing worked. But I think I found the problem. I checked the HDMI / micro USB cable with the FeelWorld external video monitor and it would get a flickering image then say no HDMI connected. Somehow between morning and afternoon, I think the cable broke. Awaiting a replacement cable to confirm. I do notice that using Cam Link, the camera, cable, and cam link feel warm. Not hot, but a lot warmer than I would expect. We’ll see if the new cable fixes the issue. Thanks again, Professor - I have learned so much from your videos.

      @@ProfessorScottLaJoie I have this exact problem and after scouring the internet for two days for a solution, I'm at least relieved I'm not the only one (only it's with my xt2). Both Skype and Zoom recognize the cam link but both feature a black screen. Aside from that issue this was by far the most helpful tutorial to at least assure me I've done everything else right! Did you ever figure out why yours wasn't working? My cables are all brand new so I doubt they are at fault.

    I am prepping to use my X-t2 as a webcam this weekend. I watched your more recent video after the FF X WebCam software dropped, and you'd mentioned that you'd done one with the expensive webcam adapter (which happens to be this video). However, I am commenting because I will need longer cords and was wondering about the exact cords and some clarification on the battery grip plug-in. I am 3:20 in and you have addressed both of these things. I want to echo Ben's sentiments that you do great sh*t. Thank you for taking the time to record these vids. I saved your playlist (Fuji X Series training) just so that I spend some time really understanding the settings.
    Are there any updates you'd make to this subject, re: Fuji X-T2 as Webcam on PC / Zoom?
