Great video. One thing about plugging the mic directly into the computer is it will likely be out of sync with the video because HDMI has a lag. If the mic is plugged into the camera, the audio and video travel over the HDMI cable to the computer at the same time. If the mic is plugged directly into the computer, the audio will arrive ahead of the video and be out of sync.
Hi Lenzy, very, very good points. I should've probably mentioned that some applications such as zoom may not allow any kind of audio delay setting like OBS would. Dammit I wish TH-cam would allow us to edit our videos once they are published. It makes me crazy that they cannot! Anyhow, great suggestion and point and I really appreciate your feedback. All the best to you sir!
Excellent video. I bought a Camlink 4K, hooked up my Fuji X-E3, followed your setup instructions, and voila! The video image is fabulous. Thanks so much for the easy to follow instructions. My Zoom friends are jealous.
Another awesome tutorial. As an X-T3 owner who had thought of doing this it's super helpful. However, it's not a dirt cheap solution when you add up the needed hardware and accessories. For the budget minded people out there I just thought I would mention that the webcam solution I went with was just using my smartphone since it has a very decent camera and microphone built in and it's possible to use it as a webcam just by downloading an app. If you don't want to spend money on a capture card, cables etc. or don't have time to wait for those items to arrive your smartphone can be very capable alternative. I'm not saying it's going to be totally on par with something like an X-T3 and an exquisite lens it but video and audio quality on a lot of newer camera phones will be more than fine for Skype/Zoom/Hangouts etc. In any case your phone is often able to produce video quality which is far better than most webcams. The nice part is that no extra hardware is needed to get a good webcam out of your phone. I use an app called iVCam which will set you back $9.99 if you want 1080p quality without their logo in the corner of the picture. It works great with both Android phones and iPhones. On Android phones you need to figure out how put your phone in developer mode and enable USB debugging though. That's easy enough if you google how to do it. With iPhones you don't have to change any settings but instead it's required to have iTunes installed on your computer in addition to the iVCam software. Then you're good to go.
Hi Thor, thank you for posting this information. That is actually an excellent solution to use a smartphone and definitely better on the budget. While you don't get the choice of lenses obviously, it's so important to at least try and improve the picture quality and some of today's smartphones can certainly help a lot in that regard. You have me really thinking about making a separate video just on using a phone for a WebCam on a budget - as I think that will also be helpful for a lot of people. Thanks again for the great tip and info!

Hi. I finally got the Elgato Cam Link 4K (from an eBay seller). It worked great. Then I watched the podcast and followed the directions for updating my Fuji Xt-3 firmware and downloaded the software to use the camera directly as a webcam (into the USB port). Since doing so, I can no longer run the camera through Cam Link. The applications (eg, Skype) “see” Cam Link 4K but when I select it, the image is black. (No lens cap on, camera is on, aperature and iso set properly, etc.) Did the firmware update ruin the ability to use Cam Link? Thanks Pal2Tech. Long time viewer, first time commenter!
Hey Scott, I'm not entirely sure since I don't know the computer setup you have, USB cords you are using etc. I can tell you that the firmware should NOT ruin the ability to use CamLink. I installed the firmware also and it's working with no trouble so the issue must be something else. You might want to reach out to CamLink directly for this one, as they may have a solution -- I'm sorry but I'm stumped with the info here and trying to figure it out.
pal2tech hi! I am amazed you replied so quickly. I absolutely love your podcasts. Educational and entertaining. Your enthusiasm is infectious. So, my issue: cam link 4K that I bought off an eBay seller (theoretically new). Micro USB to HDMI cable. MacBook Pro (mid 2015, Core 7, 16 gb of RAM, etc). This morning my setup worked with OBS, Teams, Zoom. This afternoon as I prepped to teach my class (using BlueJeans), the Cam Link would appear as an option, but there was no video. Just a blank screen where the video feed should be. I retried in OBS and others, including FaceTime and nothing worked. But I think I found the problem. I checked the HDMI / micro USB cable with the FeelWorld external video monitor and it would get a flickering image then say no HDMI connected. Somehow between morning and afternoon, I think the cable broke. Awaiting a replacement cable to confirm. I do notice that using Cam Link, the camera, cable, and cam link feel warm. Not hot, but a lot warmer than I would expect. We’ll see if the new cable fixes the issue. Thanks again, Professor - I have learned so much from your videos.

Fuji FinePix HS50EXR - Hi, I'm about 18 months late to the party but this video was really good to watch and motivated me to get the gear I needed. Unfortunately, my camera doesn't appear to have all of the same settings as those you use in the video. I have mini HDMI (so I've got a dummy battery coupler / HDMI Mini to HDMI Normal Amazon Basics / Video Capture Dongle - HDMI in USB Out) I can get playback of images already taken in both Zoom and OBS but I can't get it to live stream. Any suggestions? Thanks. Simon
Hi! Thanks so much for all your videos, just stumbled upon them and they are so helpful! Just wondering, I have a Fujifilm x100f, can I use this as a webcam with the capture card? can't find any info on this! Thanks again! Mary
Hi there! Great vid, thanks. Forgive me if this question has been answered already. I'm streaming using my Fujifilm X-T100, and I've set it up just like you said, continuous power etc. BUT! There's a black border around the image on the HDMI output all the time. This actually disappears when I start shooting video. I'm streaming with ecamm to TH-cam Live with a mac. How do I/can I get rid of this??? Thanks!! Jamie
Tried this with an X-e1, but could only get the playback mode to be viewed via the capture card. Confirmed it works with an x-e3. Could not get the external mic to work unless in video mode. But video will work in any drive mode.
Why do you need a dummy battery setup? Can't you just plug in a USB-c cable into the Fuhifilm camera and then plug that into the Fuji outlet plug which just plugs into the wall? Won't that power your camera?
Would this also work for Fuji's lower end model like the XT-20 or the XT-100? And what if you're just contented using a Video capture device with a built in audio input? Would that also be good and work fine too? Thanks! I love this channel! I keep learning so many things every day. Keep up the good work!
Getting issues with my X-T3 when I turn HDMI Output info Display off the signal stops being detected. So turning it on shows up in my Elgato camlink software. but the 4K and framerate at the top is still visible as well as the AF touchscreen settings. Don't know how to turn those off on the display
that's strange, and I have my HDMI output turned off I don't see that. There must be some other setting that we are missing. Damn I wish I could see your camera. Anyhow, when I get a spare second I will look at my settings again and see what I can determine. I don't know offhand how to turn those off for you based on the information I am reading here but there must be something different about how it is set up.
hi! just bought the fuji xt200 for streaming. I bought the camlink also... problem is - I keep getting a green box tracking my face 😐 how do I fix that? but my most critical problem is that the camera is getting hot during Zoom!! so hot that I get worning notification on the screen, and after less than an hour the camera shut itself down dou to overheating... what am I doing wrong?
do you know if there is any quality loss from the fujifilm to OBS while streaming? i feel like im getting some quality loss while streaming to OBS and not sure if the fujifil webcam software is putting a limitation on it. thanks in advance - im only using usbc to usbc... do i need the capture card??
Oops, sorry about that. I totally forgot to add that battery. I've just updated the info. amzn.to/3ePPK90 (it has mixed reviews, but has worked great for me) amzn.to/3aAqIHQ (another one that should work) Thank you for letting me know!
Is there any way to get the XT5 to work the same way? I've tried using the Legato Camlink 4K (used your video as a guide, though some settings differed from your xt3), and I've also tried the damned fujifilm webcam apps.
I have a F500 EFX which I realize is a more basic camera...but when I plug it in with the mini HDMI to USB it goes straight into read mode. Does the Elgato Cam Link keep the camera going into that mode or is my camera just not able to be used as a webcam? Thanks for any insight...
great explanation, .. i'm just wondering for the power for the camera, what if we just plug USB type C charger with power bank (or plug it to the wall) for the power rather than buying dummy battery ? is it riskier than use dummy battery ?
Thanks a lot! You always share the video that we need :) Due to the current nightmare, my wife had to close her yoga-Pilates gym. She tries to keep the groups together through insta and zoom. Her gym studio now looks like as a media studio. Your video is very important. One step further to “broadcast” quality yoga and Pilates gym cours. Quality is not only a good gym training. The video quality is as important as the skill of the trainer.
Hi Laszlo, I am so sorry to hear that - but it sounds like you guys are definitely making the best out of the situation. Even if you don't have a high-end camera or multiple high-end cameras, you can definitely improve the quality of the video/production through good lighting and background obviously. And I agree with you totally that the quality of the video is just as important as the skill of the trainer. I would say that all things considered, the #1 priority I would do is good audio. The reason being is that a number of people will play these videos on mobile devices and they are not always watching them all the time - but rather listening to them in short periods while they are doing other things -- stretching, etc. for gym videos. Over and over and over again I see that having good audio will save a bad video but bad audio will kill a good video - if that makes any sense. Anyhow, I hope her gym does well and all the best you both!
Hello, I own a fujifilm hs25exr camera. And it has an hdmi output. However, when I try to use it as a webcam, it can only show pictures and videos from the storage. Can I not use this for live video feed?
I am prepping to use my X-t2 as a webcam this weekend. I watched your more recent video after the FF X WebCam software dropped, and you'd mentioned that you'd done one with the expensive webcam adapter (which happens to be this video). However, I am commenting because I will need longer cords and was wondering about the exact cords and some clarification on the battery grip plug-in. I am 3:20 in and you have addressed both of these things. I want to echo Ben's sentiments that you do great sh*t. Thank you for taking the time to record these vids. I saved your playlist (Fuji X Series training) just so that I spend some time really understanding the settings. Are there any updates you'd make to this subject, re: Fuji X-T2 as Webcam on PC / Zoom?

And I Dont even Have Its adapter So How can i Use it for the unlimited time i mean ! If I use A Camlink Then can i Power it with micro usb ! i am confused Plz help Me
Hi you're going to need a "NP-W126S DC Coupler USB Power Adapter" Which is a like a standard battery but it has a cable out of the bottom going to a power adapter which then splits into 2 USB plugs. This will enable you to use a large power bank or alternatively just plug into a dual wall socket USB adapter. Hope this helps.
I'm having an issue. I am using a Rode mic connected to my XT200 Whether I use the camera mic or Rode mic my computer will not pick up the mic and keeps defaulting to my crappy webcam mic. How can I fix this issue? Thanks!
Mine stopped correctly displaying hdmi out. Zoom doesn't display anything. Camera Hub from elgato only shows if I turn on display settings otherwise it won't
Great video and very helpful even after 4 years of posting :) One question though, why would you recommend using a battery grip or dummy battery as power source in stead of keeping a micro usb charging cable in the camera?
I successfully just used my xh2s as a webcam. 2 things though - I get a 720 p signal. Is it because I use the usb-c cable and is it improved via Hdmi? - I cannot get the rode stereomic recognize by the software, is it possible to get it recognized?
Hi Chris, thanks for the countless videos that have been and continue to be a great help to me in operating my cameras. I am aware that I am asking a question about an older video here, but maybe it still reaches you. In the 5th generation Fujifilm X cameras, there is a "USB webcam" connection setting. This apparently allows you to easily connect the cameras to a Mac/PC and use them as a webcam without any additional software. I would be interested to know what differences there are to the connection via the Webcam2 app and whether using the app for the new cameras still makes sense. Maybe this is also a topic for a new video?
Hey Dennis, what fuji camera model do you have? You need to go into menu and ensure that HDMI display out is turned off so that you are getting a clean HDMI out w/o the menu.
You know this is one of the best resources on the internet on this topic, but with my X-E3 (which, I will note now, has in the past completely worked with no problem), getting the camera HDMI output to stop showing all the camera UI info (modes, etc, all the stuff that shows up on the camera LCD) is something I can't figure out. I have figured it out in the past, because I have been using this camera for work Zoom meetings (etc) for 2 years, but after some incidents it no longer works. I wish Fuji UI was not absolutely the worst possible thing.

He, thanks for the informative video. Could i also use it to capture video on a camera, connect it to Open Broadcast Sudio on my Computer and put it out through the beamer?
Does the xa7 have clean hdmi?? I am planning to buy it for streaming and online meetings.
Pal2tech, are the settings the same if using an Atem Mini? Because the atem is recognized as the webcam and not the Fuji. 🤷🏽♂️
No, I think you'd use just straight HDMI out from Fuji to Atem and then from there the computer will recognize as webcam.
pal2tech awesome one follow up question: is it in stills mode or video mode
Can i not use the usb-c connected to the camera and connected to power outlet? while having also a micro-hdmi connected to cam-link from elgato to pc? I am on an XT-30
Is the battery not suppose to be charging or going straight to camera from the outlet?
Can I use two cameras with two hdmi to usb card on one computer? I need to switch two cameras when teach online or record them both by using OBS software . Does the audio or video sync ok? Usually the video is delay bs the audio when do live, Skype and zoom do not have a way can adjust the video and audio to sync .
Thanks.
I have a question that it is not about this video. It is regarding camera bags. I am looking to buy a backpack camera bag and I am not sure of which one to buy. I am looking to buy a Lowepro fastpack 150 aw ii black. Do you recommend it ? Or other suggestions? I don't lot of things to bring with me. My X-T3 with a zoom lens, macro adapter, a small flash, the battery grip. Thank you! Have a pleasant day
this video is so helpful, way more helpful than fuji official videos.
This was really informative, and much appreciated. Thank you
Fuji FinePix HS50EXR - Hi, I'm about 18 months late to the party but this video was really good to watch and motivated me to get the gear I needed. Unfortunately, my camera doesn't appear to have all of the same settings as those you use in the video.
I have mini HDMI (so I've got a dummy battery coupler / HDMI Mini to HDMI Normal Amazon Basics / Video Capture Dongle - HDMI in USB Out)
I can get playback of images already taken in both Zoom and OBS but I can't get it to live stream.
Any suggestions? Thanks. Simon
Hi! Thanks so much for all your videos, just stumbled upon them and they are so helpful! Just wondering, I have a Fujifilm x100f, can I use this as a webcam with the capture card? can't find any info on this!
Thanks again!
Mary
does it work in FujiFilm X-A3?
Thanks!! Jamie
Any suggestions about lighting for this setup?
Great video, one quick question, do you have to set the camera to video mode? Thank you.
Can you tell me what is best external microphone which can be used with this model
Tried this with an X-e1, but could only get the playback mode to be viewed via the capture card.
Confirmed it works with an x-e3. Could not get the external mic to work unless in video mode. But video will work in any drive mode.
Fantastic! Now I can Skype or Zoom in film noir. :)
Please make sure that you also tilt the tripod in a Dutch angle. I always knew you had a little bit of Federico Fellini in you.
Bought the elgato camlink 4k about 6 months ago so I could live stream. Coming in real handy right now!
That's awesome!!!
hi!
just bought the fuji xt200 for streaming.
Do you know if xp120 can be used as a webcam? I’ve tried looking everywhere but haven’t found an answer.
do you know if there is any quality loss from the fujifilm to OBS while streaming? i feel like im getting some quality loss while streaming to OBS and not sure if the fujifil webcam software is putting a limitation on it. thanks in advance - im only using usbc to usbc... do i need the capture card??
If your just trying to see yourself better for making TH-cam videos is this worth trying or would you be better off buying an external monitor?
Do you have a link for that battery you mentioned that can plug in to AC?
Oops, sorry about that. I totally forgot to add that battery. I've just updated the info.
amzn.to/3ePPK90 (it has mixed reviews, but has worked great for me)
amzn.to/3aAqIHQ (another one that should work)
Thank you for letting me know!
Hi, I loved your video. Does it work with Fujifilm X-A3? I have X-A3
Can we power the camera through type c charger while using it as a webcam?
What aborto using the XT1 HDMI with a video capture such as el gato camlink or some other generic usa capturer?
Would an Fuji XT-1 work?
Thanks a lot! You always share the video that we need :) Due to the current nightmare, my wife had to close her yoga-Pilates gym. She tries to keep the groups together through insta and zoom. Her gym studio now looks like as a media studio. Your video is very important. One step further to “broadcast” quality yoga and Pilates gym cours. Quality is not only a good gym training. The video quality is as important as the skill of the trainer.
Hi Laszlo,
I am so sorry to hear that - but it sounds like you guys are definitely making the best out of the situation. Anyhow, I hope her gym does well and all the best you both!
pal2tech
Thanks for the detailed recommendation. You are right. The good audio has a big importance This should be the number #1. Thanks!!!!
Hello, I own a fujifilm hs25exr camera. And it has an hdmi output. However, when I try to use it as a webcam, it can only show pictures and videos from the storage. Can I not use this for live video feed?
Can I connect to many monitors? For live shooting?
I'd been hoping USB-C would solve this without having to convert from HDMI. Thanks for saving me that headache.
It did on the X-T4, no hdmi needed
@@DickVanPaiton The webcam app hadn't been released yet. I'm really happy Fuji created it.
@@ericzager6548 Ah ok. THX 4 Info. Did not have my Fuji "that long".
I have the x-t200 that have the download for Webcam so I still need the elgato device?
plz reply I want to use this camera(xt200) as a webcam OK ! I am Using Its Webcam Software But I realized That It Consumes Battery Even after it is connected to Usb c Port !
Do I need the Camlink if I'm using the Fuji X Webcam app?
I tried using my xh1 for live streaming… The 35mmf2 is constantly focus breathing. Is there a way to fix this?
Do you know if you can power via USB-C while outputting via HDMI?
I successfully just used my xh2s as a webcam.
2 things though
- I get a 720 p signal. Is it because I use the usb-c cable and is it improved via Hdmi?
- I cannot get the rode stereomic recognize by the software, is it possible to get it recognized?
HAVE YOU TRIED TO MAKE FINEPI HS30EXR AS WEBCAM?
Would the ELGATO CAM LINK work on a Fujifilm X30 camera? The camera is about 4 or 5 years old. Thank you.
does the 30min restriction still play a role?
does the xt3 over heat after being on for a while and streaming 4k?
Superb step by step explanation! Thank you. Can we use an iPad as an external hdmi recorder with xt30/xt3/xt4 with the similar settings?
Thx! great video but one problem: My X-T30 gets hot after 15 Minutes and gives a warning (yellow symbol). Settings are FHD 24fps. Any ideas?
How can I use laptop as an external monitor while shooting video with XT-3?
Hi Chris, thanks for the countless videos that have been and continue to be a great help to me in operating my cameras. I am aware that I am asking a question about an older video here, but maybe it still reaches you. In the 5th generation Fujifilm X cameras, there is a "USB webcam" connection setting. This apparently allows you to easily connect the cameras to a Mac/PC and use them as a webcam without any additional software. I would be interested to know what differences there are to the connection via the Webcam2 app and whether using the app for the new cameras still makes sense. Maybe this is also a topic for a new video?
Hi, This is working for me but the menus in the display are also showing in the capture. How did you get rid of those menus?
Thank you 🙏🏼
Hey Dennis, what fuji camera model do you have? You need to go into menu and ensure that HDMI display out is turned off so that you are getting a clean HDMI out w/o the menu.
Does this cause any extra wear and tear to the camera?
can i use the camera while charging or do i really need to use dummy battery?
Hi. Gret video. Can you record the video in fujifilm xt3 in SD, while simultaneously using it as webcam?
Does one really need a micro HDMI under 4 feet as stated on the Fuji website? What if your computer is more than 4 feet away???
You know this is one of the best resources on the internet on this topic, but with my X-E3 (which, I will note now, has in the past completely worked with no problem), getting the camera HDMI output to stop showing all the camera UI info (modes, etc, all the stuff that shows up on the camera LCD) is something I can't figure out. I have figured it out in the past, because I have been using this camera for work Zoom meetings (etc) for 2 years, but after some incidents it no longer works.
I wish Fuji UI was not absolutely the worst possible thing.
Hi Chris. Thanks for all valuable insights on Fujifilm. I have an X E-1 and wonder if you know a way to use it as a web cam. //Bo
Can I use my Fuji camera by using an HDMI cable only or I really need the capture card?
Hi. Great video. Just setup my XT4 however I cannot find a dummy battery. Any idea if one is available, please?
Not that I know of yet. I'm keeping my eye out as well.
Should this work with any Fujifilm camera? I'm using the Fujifilm X-S10
You're the best! All works
