Ahhh, me and vanilla is a long story as you might know, but ... I recently wore my Shalimar Cologne (admittedly a fresher take on the Shalimar DNA) and actually enjoyed it. But yes, yes, yes to Timbuktu.
So, just because it's fun and for old times' sake, here are my holy grail fragrances:
Mint - Menthe Fraiche by Heeley, of course as there is no mint fragrance that is truer to garden mint than this one.
Citrus: Cédrat Enivrant by Atelier Cologne (it is just the brightest citrus I own)
Amber: Ambre Narguilé just because it doesn't smell like amber and more like apple strudel
Vanilla: Does New York Intense count? It is enough vanilla for me.
Woody: Bois d'Iris by The Different Company (I love the combination with iris)
Iris: Bois d'Iris by The Different Company (I love the combination with wood)
Tea: Fuji Green Tea by The Body Shop (I just love this cheapy and it reminds me of a certain time of my life)
    Cherry: Just no!
Plum: I think there is a nice plum note in Penhaligon's Halfeti Leather
Violet: Cuir Pleine Fleur by Heeley (violets need leather!!!)
Leather: Cuir d'Ange by Hermès (this leather is mouthwatering ... and I don't know why)
    Vetiver: Vetiver Veritas by Heeley
Hmm, and the more I think about this list, the more I realise that I owned most of these fragrances very early on in my fragrance journey and still kept looking for fragrances that are better 😂- Thanks so much for this lovely video!

And this is a proper reply!!! I enjoyed Cédrat Enivrant , it reminded me od Light Blue by Dolce and Gabbana. Shalimar Cologne was too citrusy for me, I didn't care much about that particular flanker.
Hmmmm...yeah...I can see that New York could be a vanilla for someone who dislikes vanilla.
I still have to sniff Ambre Narguilé and Menthe Fraiche.
Woody iris is amazing....She Wood wood (pun intended) actually be what Bois d'Iris is for you 😁
Cuir d'Ange by Hermès would probably be right after Bottega, the thing is I don't even own it 🙈 but I consider it one of the most enjoyable leathers out there.
Cuir Pleine Fleur was absolutely dreadful for me, I couldn't handle it, but for masculine violets and leather I think Narciso for Him edt is totally great!
Vetiver Veritas grew on me a lot, the first encounter was quite an experience 😅 but now I really, really like it, definitelly an acquired taste!
Cherry... just no 🤣🤣 I think I feel the same about tea in perfume, just no!
I know a scent is my Holy Grail when I think about a perfume with a note and then just think "nah, I have "x", nothing will be better".
I still don't have a Holy Grail iris nor patchouli....still searching.
      Thanks for watching!

So glad to see you back Iga! I truly enjoyed the theme of your video. Thank you for sharing your 'holy grail' fragrances with us. I was wondering if when you finish some of the limited edition ones or discontinued fragrances if it would put you on a new search? I think I will be trying to sample that Rose Cherie, if I get the chance to do so this year. I had no idea that Miller Harris made a Cherry fragrance. You may be the first person I have seen talk about it. Actually, I love that quite a number of your fragrances in this video are not talked about frequently. It makes your videos so interesting (to me).
    Thank you! - Jenn

Hi Jenn, nice to read your comment ❤ Well, when it comes to discontinued or limited stuff I usually have a backup bottle, so given the number of fragrances I have the chances that I will soon run out are rather slight 😁 But indeed, when it comes to citrus, I will have to look for somethng else or simply accept the fact that my holy grail is out of my reach. I am not very up to date with the hyped stuff to be honest, I am happy it's an added value for someone. Have a lovely weekend.

Those are some great choices. I've been looking for a nice plum fragrances. I'll have to give Ambre Khadjar a try.
My holy grail violet is also a discontinued Dsquared fragrance. Rocky Mountain Wood, from the He Wood line. Those were some soothing set of fragrances.
For green, I'd have to go with Fathom V by Beaufort London.

    • @pixieandthenotes
      @pixieandthenotes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Oh you definitelly should check Ambre Khanjar, a few people who tried it, bought it almost immediately. I owned Rocky Mountain Wood, it was absolutely amazing! One of best woody scents for me!
I found Fanthom V extremely challenging! Lily and mimosa absolutely ruined it for me, but it's my personal dislike for these notes.

@@pixieandthenotes for rose, I'd have to say Tauer's PHI, it kind of opened the world of roses for me, like you, I wasn't really a big fan before. In the woods direction, on one side there's Issara by Dusita for that fresh pine forest, it instantly transports me to a forest hike in my mind. On the other hand, although they are not woody scents in concept, I find Freddie Albrighton's perfumes to be quite spectacularly woody in their drydown, Mabel's Tooth and 11 Candles in Antwerpen, nutty and woody and waxy, they're my favourite fragrances to come back to when in need of comfort and warmth. White florals, now these I ended up having a few, not because I specifically wanted a white floral but because they're just spectacular blends to me, one is Profumum Roma's Sabbia Bianca (a multilayered tuberose, very white floral but very complex yet the emphasis is on the clarity of tuberose) and the other is 1492 by Histoires de Parfums, the latter not being a straightforward white floral but a spectacular jasmine nevertheless. I'm a fan of 4160Tuesdays and Sarah McCartney's approach and love for citruses, not necessarily citrus as the star ingredient (although Orange Tree is a beautiful citrus scent with orange front and center) but again beautiful blends where citrus (which is not my favourite in perfumes) is prominently there and gives a very satisfying spark. I'm really into skanky ouds, the three that seem to me to be recognisably oudy with that animalic kick are Ghala (I mean, rose oud combo is a proven combo), I just got a travel size Oudh Infini by Dusita, now that's a kicker!, and the best total sale catch I ever got Jardin Nocturne by Shalini, a beautiful jasmine oud I would have never tried had it not been on sale for a fraction of the usual price and it's just magical. There are a couple of more, I like gourmands and have two or three that are also a comfort and a hug in a bottle but this comment is getting long😜. Thanks for a great video and have a great weekend!

@@pixieandthenotes Not a fan of the term. 😄 But a very reasonable question! The short answer is no. For me, preferences are rather fluid. There was a time when I had highly coveted scents scents for each note - vetiver, tobacco, leather, grapefruit... - but after acquiring some perspective on materials, the industry, and the craft, my tune changed quite a bit. Disillusionment played a great part. Nowadays I see everything and nothing as holy across the spectrum of time and emotion. 🥴 I also find beauty in everyone's preferences, since they're only following their hearts and minds. Some people find delight in the funk, others in the menial. The experience is what I tend to celebrate. And it changes as we do! So I suppose my only holy grail is the one that brings me the most joy in the moment! 💖 And I'll admit, corresponding with you gets me close. 🥰

Another TH-camr I follow made a community post that Bottega Veneta for women was available online, even though it's been discontinued. I jumped on and ordered two 30 ml bottles...then decants to send to my daughter...and I ordered another 1.7 ounce bottle Thursday.

@@pixieandthenotes That's what I understand, although there is still supply at Jomashop...and Fragrancenet...but Jomashop has the better prices. Si Fiori is also discontinued, but you can find it both places...although the price is higher.
Quick story...I wore my signature scent since it came out in 1981...until the designer was sadly killed. One of the notes was/is oakmoss...and that was during the big oakmoss debate, as well, so it was discontinued. I bought up a small stash...and I continue to when I can find it at a decent price...but there are price gougers out there now, also. I decided in November 2023--with encouragement from my daughter--to save/extend my stash, and started exploring other fragrances that I might like...and well...in that time, I've gone from one fragrance to...over 100...albeit a few of them are also discontinued. I'm buying up at least one backup bottle of those now as I can afford/find them...because I don't want to be in that situation again. Among my discontinued fragrances are: Miss Dior 2017 (blood orange is one of my favorite notes in fragrances--and gelato, as well), Bottega Veneta, YSL Babycat (according to an email I got from YSL Corporate, it is discontinued, but lo and behold, I managed to procure a bottle at a "reasonable" price, and am also makind do with Rifaaqat, which appears to be discontinued, also), Si Fiori, and a few others.
I have more bottles of fragrance than I think I can expect to use in my expected remaining 35 years...but I want to be sure I have the ones that really speak to me!

It's actually a really mysterious and surprising phenomenon, to see just how many 'unlikely' women absolutely fall in love with Ivory Route. The most feminine of women who adore very airy, musky, gentle floral fragrances or sugary gourmands all seem to unite in their adoration of this fragrance. You'd never imagine such a distinct, masculine-leaning (some may even say challenging) profile to so easily seduce so many women. I'm one of them. When I wear it I can't stop lifting my arm and sniffing. It makes me envision a hot, humid, spicy, rich, woody jungle with the post- monsoon rain's steam rising up into the hot sun; an adventurous holiday to an exotic land rather than a luxurious holiday to a 5 star spa resort in Tuscany. 🥰

    • @pixieandthenotes

It's quite interesting, because honestly I never thought of Ivory Route as of a masculine-leaning let alone challenging. However, at the same time it never gave me any compliments and noone in my surroundings seems to enjoy it as much as I do.
