    Angel is the strongest longest lasting perfume I've ever used. I've been wearing it for over 20 years. I've found that it needs two things 1) you only need the tiniest spritz of it because it's so strong and 2) it needs to be cold outside. If it's even a little bit warm, it smells awful. But on a cold winter day the smallest spritz of Angel smells so comforting and yummy. I'll always get compliments when I wear it like that.

      @@ursamajor6347 Literally. Angel is the kind of perfume that is loved by pretty much anyone who does not care about perfumes - even if they dont know what it is, cuz you just smell like a super rich caramel-vanilla praline. It smells like a fantasy desert you want to eat right now.
      There has not been a single time I have not been complimented on my scent when I wore it.
      I usually prefer lightly spraying it on my hair, scarf, maybe wrist not too much skin contact. I feel like thats when it can get a bit overbearing. Its one of those scents that should not mix with sweat/body heat.
      A lot of those more sophisticated perfumes are cool for perfume fans - got a few favs aswell - but if you want a date to think "Wow, what a nice alluring smell", those suede kardamon bitter spicy perfums are not the way to go.
      Mugler Fan forever, not sorry about it.

    I'm a little bothered with all the hate on La Vie Est Belle. How much of this fragrance are people spraying on themselves? I will spray a mist of it, walk through it, and get endless compliments. I can imagine if I sprayed this directly on my skin--especially more than once--I, too, would get a headache. But maybe people shouldn't do that. Some of these hated fragrances simply need to be used more lightly.

    Let’s be honest, Sauvage started getting hate when it became popular. Now that it became the #1 selling cologne (hence the average Joe) TH-cam reviewers started bashing it. I remember when everyone had Sauvage and Creed Aventus as the best colognes. I also understand it, because when my father started wearing it, I knew it’s become time to stick it in the back of my collection. 🤣 Love your videos. Keep up the great work. ❤️

    • @JT-rx1eo
      @JT-rx1eo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think with Sauvage it goes further than contrarianism against a popular frag. It has a crudeness in its blast furnace of laundry detergent-like ambroxen.
      Now, the other one, Aventus, is a good example of a frag suffering from contrarianism due to popularity, i.e. dying of success. Aventus is far more nuanced and sophisticated than Sauvage imo.

    • @joniheisenberg6691
      @joniheisenberg6691 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@JT-rx1eo Sauvage became popular because of Johnny Depp. He is very sexy. The fragrance is not.

    • @JT-rx1eo
      @JT-rx1eo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@monogtraetregmen If so, the problem is not being honest and criticizing a fragrance itself because one doesn't like the brand company. It's no doubt why Luca Turin rated Davidoff Cool Water higher than Creed Green Irish Tweed. He lost my respect with that.
      But be that as it may, I just think there are frag people who feel self-satisfied in downplaying Aventus or Creed in general. Some of those people are frag enthusiasts who aren't that far into their frag journey - maybe months to a year or so - and have discovered that criticizing the uber-popular Aventus or Creed itself increases their bonafides or sense of their own sophistication. Then there are very experienced FragSnobs who seem to criticize Creed because it's not challenging or "artistic" (read "too mass pleasing") enough (looking at you, Persolaise). Now, that's not to dismiss criticism. It's all subjective of course. I don't like Aventus' drydown that much. It's not in my top 10. Top 20, but not top 10.

    • @JT-rx1eo
      @JT-rx1eo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@monogtraetregmen Well I have to vehemently disagree with you on all that. Creed's ingredients are NOT cheap, as confirmed by the perfumers interviewed for the book The Ghost perfumer. Including Pierre Bourdon and Jean-Christophe Herault. Lol. Another interesting thing the author discovered in speaking to those ghost perfumers and others in the industry in Europe is that many regard Olivier Creed as maybe having been the best scent evaluator in the world for the last half century! Even if they criticize him for other reasons. I assume you'll find a reason to disagree with that assessment? And lots of brands charge too much money. That's lux economics. But if you're paying $400 for a Creed fragrance you aren't doing it right. Its OK if you don't like Creed for whatever reason, but the point about posturing and Creed criticism is valid. Persolaise is a good example of this in my opinion. It became so bad I unsubscribed from his channel. Really fingernails-on-the-blackboard stuff. "Creed is cheap". 😂. They could improve their boxing imo, but big deal. Does the success of Aventus, and Green Irish Tweed, or any of their other fragrances really bother you that much? Lol.

    I think people forget that fragrances wear different on every body. Our own natural scents blend with it. Case in point: Black Opium’s floral shows up more for me in the initial stages, then the vanilla, and followed by the coffee in the back ground. The coffee shows up more when it dries down on me.

    Alien is my absolute favourite perfume. I’ve had people compliment me on it and ask what it is, and when I’d tell them they’d be shocked that it smelled so good, because they hated it on themselves. It’s interesting how our own body chemicals and scents can alter those scents!

    • @roxanac.4977
      @roxanac.4977 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same for me with Angel. Someone else mentioned that it smells way better when it is cold, which might be why it smells good on me, since my hands are always ice cold and my body in general isn’t very warm, so it doesn’t heat it up too much. Some people also rub their wrists vigorously when applying perfume and I think that totally destroys Angel, since it overheats.
      I’ve started to fall out of love with the fragrance recently and I also felt it started to not last as long on me anymore either, but it might be because of the hot summer temperatures we had lately. I really hope I fall back in love with it when the temperatures drop again, since it was the very first fragrance that totally captivated me.

    Happy to see someone has reviewed Good Girl by Carolina Herrera. I layer the original GG with GG legere, and it is wonderful. I started wearing this a couple of years ago. My go to fragrance for Years, has been Hani More Butterfly, or Versace Bright Crystal. Prior I was a Chloe lover, but became bored with it. Just a question? As a teen, I remember my mom wearing Diorissimo. I fell in love with it, and would "sneak" a bit when she wasn't around. Is it still available? And if so, is the formula the same. Thanks, great video.

However, last month, I've ironically purchased the newer flanker "Oui La Vie est Belle Lancôme" bc I thought it smelled less "old lady" and more simple, pretty with the same lasting power as the original. As well as, the "La Vie est Belle L’Éclat" bc the perfumer at Dillard's store informed me that this flanker was being discontinued. So, me being me, I am a sucker for a collectible item and I happened to purchase the very last one she had in her stock and thank goodness, it was the 100ml bottle!

I wanted to get it for my aunt who loves floral, sweet but soft scents. In my opinion you can very much smell that black orchid. It is so strong I couldn’t even smell anything else in it…and it took a while to get the scent out of my nose. It’s like I stuck my nose in the flower lol, but it’s a very authentic and original fragrance I’d say. THANK YOU! I despise Alien also, I'm genuinely stunned by it's enormous success. I wonder how it would have done in the 1980s? By the way, if you want a big retro-style tribute to the fruity floral BIG fragrances of the 1980s for summer, something flamboyantly joyful and unapologetically feminine and slightly obnoxious then definitely try 'Une Nuit Magnetique' by The Different Company. I'm pretty sure Celine Ellena is behind this one, although it could be Christine Nagel? Hmm, eitehr way it makes me want to sew shoulder pads into all my clothing, buy white stilettos and wear more satin polka dot blouses. And hairspray. More hairspray. ;)

    This is a great and entertaining video, thank you for your hard work! ✨
    OK, and now for probably the longest comment ever…
    I was quite surprised by some of the results or the alternatives mentioned. The biggest, mind blowing thing for me is that Coco Mademoiselle and La Vie Est Belle smell *eerily similar* on me, as if Mademoiselle was a very sophisticated version and LVEB is just a more sugary knock-off. Which sounds insane, as they seem to have different DNAs, but I used to wear Coco Mademoiselle for the longest time, it was one of my favourites, from back when I was 15 to maybe 20-22. (I am now 32 years old.) I’ve moved away from it because it became too generic and I felt I could smell it on everybody, though not in the same way it “morphed” with my skin, so I wanted something more… particular, I believe. And I received La Vie Est Belle a couple of years ago as a gift, I didn’t particularly enjoy it but wore it for a few times (less than 1/3 of the bottle) before giving it to my mother - and that’s precisely because it reminded me so much of Coco Mademoiselle.
    I haven’t smelled Black Opium. I loved Belle d’Opium a lot though, so if they share a family, even if there are different notes, I’d guess it would smell wildly different on me. Maybe I got a sample once? If I remember that correctly, it wasn’t interesting enough for me.
    What a shame about Dior Sauvage! I have never smelled this on a man (at least that I know of), my former boyfriends had other tastes, but I don’t find it boring and generic at all. Maybe the dry down is extremely different and I would change my opinion if I was constantly near someone who was wearing this, but as it stands now, it’s still one of the perfumes I’d like my (future) man to wear. Will look into the others mentioned as well, so thank you again!
    If I’m not mistaken about Angel, it’s the one perfume I ever had from Mugler, it was a gift from my father and I absolutely loved it. This must have been back somewhere around 2009, because the bottle was shaped differently. It’s true that it’s very distinct but that particular *something* was what did it for me. And it was definitely not gourmand on my skin, sweet and different, yes, but I have unfortunately purchased gourmand perfumes blindly just based on the notes and none of them made the cut. With Angel, it was intensely pleasant while not being overwhelming. Really hard to put it into words. Just ahead of its time, I suppose. But then again, maybe they tweaked a bit the formula, because I haven’t smelled it in years. I really can’t draw a comparison between it and Coco Mademoiselle!!! On me they were from two very distinct families. Mon Guerlain seems beautiful, but might be way too sweet for my taste, and I think I might have sampled it in a shop once.
    I must be getting behind in terms of perfumes because I haven’t yet smelled Baccarat Rouge, although I know it’s very popular! (And apparently very polarizing as well!) I was actually looking forward to and will give it a fair shot, but from your description it doesn’t seem the one for me if it’s that sweet.
    I’m personally into more into lightly floral (white floral) or citrus accords balanced by spices or woody notes. I especially love a good dose of spice but only in certain combinations. And amber is definitely a favourite! I’m all for very strong, almost masculine scents, something that makes a statement, “I have the power”, “I’m all good by myself”, obviously more so in the colder months. So I tend to gravitate between floral/citrusy well-grounded scents and the ones with a big dose of something pertaining more to the masculine side of ingredients used in perfumes. (I actually used a Burberry men’s scent for years, on its own or layered.) So yeah, I can’t stand sweet, sugary, syrupy, too gourmand scents at all, not even very feminine ones, I’d rather have just a clean, powerful but basic floral (orange blossom/bluebell/jasmine for summer etc.).
    Which is weird because like I said, I could definitely detect the sweetness in La Vie Est Belle on my skin, but it was nothing compared to other “pink” perfumes such as Flowerbomb.
    Sadly I have to agree with No. 5. Since I was in love with Mademoiselle from such a young age I wanted to expand my Chanel universe but I couldn’t bring myself to like it then and I can’t bring myself to like it now. It’s not that I don’t like vintage vibes perfumes or even old lady ones (with an interesting twist), it’s just that this particular formulation smells awful *on* me, and *to* me. It’s rude to say this, but I dislike it so much that I think I’d have to distance myself a bit from a person who’d be wearing it, especially if oversprayed. I am very good at tolerating perfumes I don’t enjoy on other people, but this is the one exception.
    As for Black Orchid… ugh, I hate to be on the “no” side, because I really wanted to love this one a lot. It seemed very beautiful from the description, and I like the dark/gothic esthetic too. No wonder I don’t like any of the L’Interdit variations either. I don’t know, maybe my skin is just abnormal. I’ve yet to find a Tom Ford perfume that agrees with me, I’ve sampled a decent variation of them and there was always a little something that was off-putting. I respect his creativity a lot and I like that he usually comes with innovations in a place where I feel it’s right between mass-market and niche.
    I will pay attention and try to sample some of the niche perfumes mentioned here and in other of your videos, I really appreciate your knowledge and suggestions. I like going into a boutique well prepared and not letting myself be mesmerized by all the bottles and the nuances so that I end up smelling 20 perfumes in one sitting (I don’t think I’ve ever done that), but still let a bit of space for the personnel to surprise me with a recommendation based on my tastes. Thanks again and best of luck!

    Black Orchid has to be worn to try it, out of the bottle I hated it but my sister and coworker wore it and smelt amazing and now I wear it 😍

    I actually like Black Opium. I just started wearing Good Girl. I wasn't a fan at first when I first smelled it, but it's growing on me.

    Dior Sauvage smells ordinary. Bleu de Chanel EDP is a masterpiece.

      Your thinking from a fragrance enthusiast mind set. Most the population doesn't notice or care.

    I wore Angel in college and then got into Coco Mademoiselle in my 30s. I still appreciate them both, but I'm just over them both, and my nose buds have changed. BR540 was very polarizing to me at first. I kept smelling myself all day not knowing if I liked it and then... bam, it just clicked and I loved it. I also get a medicinal smell but in the best way.

    L’Eau is lovely, No5 on me smells like fly spray yet I adore smelling No5 on others🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m a Coco Noir gal 😊🧡 . Opium ( Poison, Lou Lou & Red Door ) triggers full blown migraine within minutes if I’m near anyone wearing them. . Much love to you, enjoying your channel 🧡Stani x x
