- Do you know how high is the cost of living in Singapore? In the eyes of foreigners, they believe that Singapore has a skyrocket high cost of living and the daily expenses in Singapore is unbelievable. If you track your daily expenses, you might know the answer to the daily expenses in Singapore. In today's video, Angel is going to see if it is possible to survive in Singapore with only SGD$5 a day. Inspired by Evita's video where she spent $15 a day, Angel believe that the minimum daily expenses isn't so high for usual Singaporeans. Hence in this video, Angel is going to challenge herself to spend only $5 a day.
Angel also found a place with Nasi Lemak that costs only $2.20! So cheap! It is in Bedok interchange hawker centre! No wonder the queue is always so long!
On a side note, if you happened to travel to taiwan in the future, remember to ask your Taiwan friend to bring you to visit the Costco there! It will be a culture shock for you! The food tasting all comes in huge amount!

Cooking at home will keep you within budget. E.g. Noodles in prepared stocks kept in fridge. Rice cooker with dried ingredients, ntuc veg, egg, etc.

5块可以活下去。早餐$2 送咖啡，中午$3，晚上不吃。死不掉但是很痛苦，不过可以减肥。我一般正常开销一天不算住宿花30，这因该算正常吧。而且新加坡食阁买的饭量都很小，相当于上海2/3，澳洲1/2的量，所以我一般都要两份.....

Anyway for me, your 2 meals for $5 per day, is almost enough for me for ONE meal. The portion look so small, I eat finish leow sure will look around for more food one. :p

Th's how i do it. I will cycle to work and back to home everyday except raining day, office provided coffee/milo. I will cook millet porridge with mix of varies types of bean for lunch(no meat, like to add spinach, sea weed, plue other vegie - i calculated arround $1.50 per meal). And in the evening i have $3.50 to spend on dinner, if i have to i only drink tehO or tehC. Yeah. . ., i will do this 3 to 4 time a week on makan. $5 per day is a realistic approach if u do it right and still nutritional, Then save up and treat yourself once or twice a month to recharge and keep going.

@@AN9ELHSU Urrrg..hh and forget to say, a very inportant ingredient in the cooking of porridge is the used of japanese miso for a delicious, flavorful meal,. They are magic to me and u can get a big packet cheaply at a bigger Giant supermakrt.

Unless you prepare your breakfast or cook your own lunch/dinner or work from home, I don't think $5/day is really enough if you include your transport fees. Even although it is still possible that there are still few stalls in Singapore selling $2-$3 per bowl of noodle/mixed rice, but the choice is limited and the portion might not be that much. And to be honest, I could not understand how a hawker could survive selling a bowl of noodles at less than $3 since everything has been increasing. I rather pay them more for lunch for their delicious food and help the hawker instead. If I would like to save like that, I will target $10/day instead which is still technically possible. My own thoughts. Good luck hunting those cheap/delicious foods.

Breakfast - Teochew kueh $0.80 & soya milk $0.70: $1.50
Lunch - Fried Bee Hoon: $1.20
Dinner - Economy rice: 1 meat and rice: $2.00
Total : $4.70
Just go to a really remote heartlander hawker to search for these prices. Its just effort and some time. But yes, we all give up after a while and surrender to more expensive convenience. U can even get $2.20 Nasi lemak at Bus interchange these days. Its everywhere!

@@AN9ELHSU I cannot say about quality. Sg do not have resources. So the taste just doesn't go with pricing. I did tried the $5 challenge myself. But u will only be able to tolerate the quality for awhile . For $5 SGD, in Msia u can truly get by. :)

新加坡的收入比較高，物價也比較高。surprisingly, the food prices in Singapore are considered pretty low.

7:45am 前搭捷运有折扣。早餐吃面包跟果酱也是不错的选择。选择经济饭（杂饭）可以有菜有肉。

Actually U could cook... buy frozen only in bulk meat, esp chicken thigh/breast, vegetables such as cabbage/carrots/green leafy/tomato, eggs, rice, some spices or garlic/ginger/onions. I did a calculation before, I could spend about $2 or even lesser on each meal, but spread over a week of eating the same meat (chicken), with rice and different type of vegetables. You could substitute rice for noodles/been Hoon etc, cost will only up a little. 😊

@@AN9ELHSU Don't mention it! It is called Tong Fong Fatt 東風發 but must ask for $2.50 chicken rice. If not, the uncle will ask whether you want $3.50 or $4.50 chicken rice

@@AN9ELHSU That's their business strategy. They will purposely lead you to $3.50 and $4.50 so people will reply with the given choice ($3.50/$4.50). So next time when they ask you same again, they will be surprised when you replied you want $2.50 chicken rice :)

my place have nasi lemak cost $2 ( 1 chicen wing n 1 fried egg). that is 1 brunch meal. u can have light prata kosong for $1/pc in most places. 2 pcs just $2. so that is 2 meals. u have $1 for drinks! that is $5

很多外国人都以为新加坡的生活费很高！其实是大错特错！其实是看个人的需求而定！新加坡除了房屋租金贵之外，其他的都很 affordable n economic. 就拿吃来说，要绝对省钱，可以去 Hawker Center(小贩中心），因为它是政府的！没错的话，全岛有大约120个小的中心,政府都会照顾人民的钱包的！接下来是 Kopitiam(私人, 无冷气）较贵一些！再贵一点是Food Court（私人，有冷气）.
在 Hawker Center有些 Set Meal很便宜，比如一杯咖啡，加两片面包再加两粒鸡蛋，某些地方才两元多！！
接下是 Transport, 新加坡的公共交通是有折扣的，像我坐一趟 mrt $1.50，再转乘巴士在1Km之内是免费的。再远一些给 4分 and so on...
So..新加坡贵在那里！！我在此生活 20年，都活到很轻松自在！！
對啊住在新加坡後才知道其實生活費沒有想像中的高！

I think you are just talking about food expense. Living expense does not just include food. Utilities, insurance, housing loan, transport, medical, tax, etc. The best way to calculate is total expense per year / 365.

@@AN9ELHSU haha that is a good question I mostly eat Lor Mee ,Fish Ball Mee or Mee Goreng that easily cost me $3.00 and a nice hot coffee that will cost me $1 dollar. So if you round up that will be $4 dollar meals.

For travel can use bicycle...foc if already own one

And for bicycle, unless sg gov built more bicycle tracks around sg if not I think it’s a dangerous thing to go on pedestrian path or the road for now.

Hi Hessajee! Thanks for your feedback! I am actually not super familiar with cycling in both countries as I don’t cycle that frequent. But one thing that I observed in both countries as a pedestrian is that taiwanese cyclists have more cycling pathways than sg. In sg I see a lot of cyclists cycle on road which is super dangerous 😱
As of which cyclists pay more attention on road user, might be sg since cyclists are consistently sharing road with pedestrians and cars

In Taiwan it depends on where you live and how confident the cyclist is on the roads with other road users.

大牌216的小販中心早市滿多好吃的。那邊有一攤齋米粉每次都大排長龍。多數賣到早上9點就賣完收攤了。有機會你可以去試試。
節省金錢是一種美德，可是長期吃质量低劣的食物會影響身體的健康。人往高處，水往低流。省錢省不了多少，倒不如考慮到美國加州去工作。加州氣候冬暖夏涼、生活環境優美。一個碩士的薪水起跳是6000-$8000美元。兩年后有了工作經驗薪水將調整到$8000-$10000美元。薪水不必扣公積金，所得稅是20-30% 有失業金跟退休金可以領。每個月的生活費包括私人公寓、新車子、保險等等費用只佔薪水的百分之五十。上班不必擠地鐵或搭公車。像你那麼省的人生活費只要40%或更少。你每個月可以有一半的薪水$3000到$4000去shopping 或者把錢存起來。再也不用去吃Hawker food 每天在restaurant 吃飯。美國普通餐館比新加坡便宜很多而且經常吃不完打包。名牌東西也比新加坡便宜30-50%從此可以有quality life. 做一個有生命活力的人。好好的去享受人生。省錢是無濟於事、到美國賺錢才是上策。

@@AN9ELHSU 因為Larry 跟我是同路人。薪水跟生活水平成正比生活會比較輕鬆愉快。生活的壓力少了人生也自然會變得幸福快樂。試想你每年能存到三、四萬美元是一件非常美好的事情。你可以利用兩個星期的有薪假期回台灣玩或到新加坡跟其它地方去旅遊。在洛杉磯的龐大華人社區里買一幢房子。condos 四十萬至六十萬。花園洋房是六十至一百萬。工作五年就可以買房子付首期。你買的房產是享受永久產權的。沒有任何的約束。租賃leasing BMW 跟 Mercedes 的 low end model 只要月付$400. 有自己的車子可以自由的翱翔可以開車到加拿大或墨西哥旅遊。當然也可以橫跨美國四十九個州除了夏威夷除外😊

@@AN9ELHSU 是我應該跟你説聲對不起才是。希望人人都能有好的生品質。有自己的車有隱私權不用去擠地鐵搭公車。想去那里都很方便自由自在。最關鍵的是洛杉磯的氣候宜人乾爽。春暖夏涼，冬天最冷也只不過是8-9 度。冬天山上零度下雪可以去滑雪同時海邊是25度可以曬太陽滑水。加州的天氣是最適合居住的地方。好好的考慮一下。
