- Migrating to Singapore? Have you thought of a country if you were to migrate your family to, where will that country be? Many people asked Angel why did I migrate to Singapore? When I was young, I didn't know why, I only knew it was my father's decision. Now thinking back, I thought that it was a wise decision made and I am happy in Singapore too.

So touching! Your story actually reminds me a lot of my own! I’m a Chinese Malaysian (馬來西亞華裔）. My parents studied in a Chinese medium primary school and Malay medium secondary school in Malaysia, so their English is not that good (it’s their 4th language, after their dialect, Mandarin and Malay). However, they recognised the importance of English in today’s globalised world, so they chose to send my siblings and I to Singapore schools. Even then, they know it is important for me to maintain my cultural roots and national identity, so my mom spoke to us in Mandarin at home, and our parents home-schooled us basic Malay. I took Higher Chinese and Malay as 3rd language in secondary school. Today, I can converse in 3 languages and am now studying my dream course in the UK. I am so thankful to my parents for the sacrifices they made for me and my siblings :)

You’re really sweet - to your dad! I visited Taiwan a number of years ago and was v surprised that there were no English road, street signs. Hubby was so lost, couldn’t even read menu... I really felt that Taiwan would be more ‘modern’
❤️🙏🏻 haha Taiwanese uses only mandarin and hokkien, so I guess there is no need for them to have English road name. But as of the last trip I went back, there are already more English signage than before.

Your father has a practical long term plan for your future, just trust him and do your best . Among so many youngsters, consider yourself fortunate to have such a caring and clever father .

LOL I had a Taiwan friend (lost contact already, so long ago) that was an ENGLISH TEACHER (she's local Taiwanese). Even speaking English, as a teacher, she still got many things wrong. Her biggest problem was separating past, present, and future tenses, so sometimes I had to "translate" it back to Chinese in my head to understand what she's saying. She says she must make herself be aware of tenses when she's teaching, but when talking normally she doesn't concentrate so will sometimes mix the past and present tense up. For people like me (yellow banana, English speaker), mixing up tenses changes the meaning for me.
Hahaha I agree, it’s hard for taiwanese to understand tenses 🤣
@@AN9ELHSU Hahah not just Taiwanese, generally most Chinese speakers do, when they first started learning English. Usual questions are about tenses (why need different words?) and especially about relatives (father's brothers - ah pek, father's sisters - ah gou, mother's brothers - ah gu, mother's sisters - ah yee - why all lumped into "UNCLE" and "AUNTIE". Why strangers also UNCLE and AUNTIE?) LOL.

SG needs talented people, we welcome bi-lingual Taiwanese to settle here. Currently too many CECA Indians and families coming here to work, creating social problems like they form enclaves, screaming kids at playgrounds disturb the peace of locals at home. SG should not put all eggs in one basket.

Speaking of English education in Taiwan, it's like an elephant in a room but it costs you an arm and a leg to send children to Singapore to study just for learning English. For one reason, less then 5 percent of the families in Taiwan are rich enough to afford their children to live and study abroad since their children are very young. For another reason, there's something to do with the problems of upbringing. Living alone in a foreign country without parents company can be very tough for many kids and can cause lots of problems. If you're determined to learn English well, you can still stay in Taiwan and find ways to accomplish your goal.

Singapore’s currency is very much higher than Taiwan. Second, we have common spoken and written Chinese. Thirdly,
we friendly with almost all countries in the world, including China as well. Singapore has a good and democratic government. Not only a Taiwanese there many other foreigners including China Chinese, Indians, Malaysia European.
In short you’ll find many different types of people from different nationalities living harmony in Singapore.

我还不晓得台湾的父亲节是再八月八号。 其实新加坡是非常注重双语政策， 所以从小就得必须学双语。可是这也就让一些人感到学双语的压力或着跟不上其他同学。但是回想起来， 我得到的收获是一世，让我能双语沟通和交流。我想信你的父亲也是希望你能得到很好的教育， 所以让你出国念书。虽然我觉得小时候妳可能会抱怨或者不高兴为何妳的父亲要你到外国读书， 不过妳的父亲也是用心良苦，认为这样的作法比较好，不惜一切花了一必钱让妳到国外念书，他们可能也需要做一些牺牲， 比如金钱或着住宿方面，妳的家人也就是这样搬到新加坡。不过看到妳有今天的成就，我相信妳的父亲或着你得家人也是非常开心。所以一定要珍惜妳的家人，这样他们所做的一切和牺牲也是值得.相信妳的父母亲也是欣慰，有一个非常孝顺的女儿.你的这个视频不错， 让我也给感动了。

There are 2 types of Taiwanese.
I used to travel to Taiwan frequently for business trips. The local Taiwanese is a very proud group of people, who think that they are very intelligent, speaks good English, and knows alot of other outside world. I can only smile back politely.
On the other hand, the Taiwanese I meet in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and even China, they are really different. They are more humble, and maybe what I call down to earth. And have a more accurate understanding of the outside world.
I have a Taiwanese friend whom I met in Singapore. She is now back in Taiwan. As per her own words, Taiwan is her home and she loves Taiwan. But if she has a chance, she will rather go out and venture to other countries. She doesn't want to be a 井底之蛙。
Andrei I agree with you. I have also encountered these 2 type of Taiwanese in my channel too.
Well, now that I am having more global view and perspectives, I always refer back to what Elon musk pitches, “its not about how right you are, but it’s about how less wrong you do”
