    Don’t let this guy anywhere near your property. He does so many things wrong. I have 44 years in the commercial roofing industry.

    I was a commercial roofer for 6 years and only did torch down. This is atrocious to me. Here in Canada to follow code you have to torch on wall flashings and cannot just simply torch your field up the wall. He cant even peel the packaging tape off the roll which will have a chemical reaction. I know he doesn't embed granules because there is nothing to embed. At that rate he'll probably finish the roof in 2 days and walk away with 15k in his pocket. You have some balls on you for displaying your hack job.

      what do you mean torch on wall flashings, seems like he torched as far as he could and them tucked it.

      @@huntma3787it’s called base flashing. You can’t run your field roll up to the wall and call it a day. Usually you run your field up past the cant strip a couple inches and then cut it off. After that you must measure at least 6 inches from the edge of the cant strip out and pop a line. Then you must prime or degranulate with your torch and apply your base flashing. Often times the same type of roll is used when flashing. In my experience, we use the white cap for the field and the veral aluminum for the base flashing! I torch lots of Siplast! 👍🏽

      You’ve got to heat across your roll evenly not very little heat on the underlayer and more on the lap of the mineral.
      The UK is the motherland where it all began and the rest of the world has followed as a result.
      It’s like Chinese whispers it seems ,the most important elements get missed out.
      Less talking about the job and more time spent learning about why we do the things we do within the trade.
      It’s a science and unless you understand how it works and why, there is know logical reason for doing it wrong.
      I’ve worked alongside Canadians in the past and it was long before I realized they really didn’t understand why they do what they do.!!
      Call yourselves journeyman the best worldwide supposedly.
      I beg to differ,this title is only as a result of knowing just a little bit of each roofing system.
      But definitely not a master of one of more.
      Give people quality not quantity.
      We only see this particular standard of work amongst the flyby nights in the UK🇬🇧and that’s the gypsies community unfortunately.
      You wouldn’t last 5 minutes in the UK.🇬🇧
      I say this because I’ve earned my credentials after 37 years within the trade.
      Also a recognized award winner as a sole contractor for quality of workmanship awarded by the National federation of roofing contractors.
      Which is now the main governing body The Roofing council in the UK.🇬🇧

      @@pureblood6492 you've probably never done warranty work then. Every manufacturer wants a big bleed out, seperate wall flashings. I bet you I could peel his work right up. Especially the seams. @@pureblood6492 epdm and torch don't even compare. Epdm is a garbage roof. Tell that to the siplast inspector I'm working with right now. He would have a shit fit. He wants 1/2 in minimum bleed out. Also he almost lost his mind because my coworkers weren't heating it up enough so you have a small puddle in front of the roll. I know this guy doesn't do manufacturer warranty work, he has admitted that he warrantys it himself. I would never ever ever ever use flashing cement to connect torch to the drip edge metal/gravel stop. It's called asphalt primer. This guy doesn't believe in it because "it's a small layer" he said in another comment. On top of that your supposed to strip it in with base and then go over it with cap sheet. I think manufacturers know more then he does.

    How do you do an inside corner? Mine transitions into the siding. What do you run up on the vertical surface? All 3 layers? Then compression bar? Do you Mount the compression bar underneath the siding on the sheathing if you're redoing the siding anyways or does it have to be on top of the siding? I'm guessing you use OSI quad?

    Roof doctor which doesn’t break the bound on the laps between the base layer and top lay ( finished Layer)
    What school of roofing did you go too.
    I cringe to watch you guys working with those gas lamps,
    I’m surprised you haven’t burnt any building down yet.!!
    It’s ok saying you can felt any roof and think you can be good at it.

    Nice work! Thanks for sharing. Can butane gas be used to torch down?

    • @FlatRoofDoctor
      @FlatRoofDoctor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am sure it can be used, but I would assume it is expensive. You need a high output BTU torch to heat up the surface evenly. That means a big flame, but when you do detail work then you need a small torch, I think that is where the butane torch will work

    • @stephenlewis7342
      @stephenlewis7342 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Butane doesn’t burn hot enough,
      You need high levels of heat very quickly otherwise your risk the chance of a failed bond.
      Propane burns far quicker and hotter.

    • @stephenlewis7342
      @stephenlewis7342 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s got nothing to do with weather you’ve got a small head on your gas torch or not.!
      It’s all about getting that heat into both surfaces simultaneously.
      Some people use a long neck on the gas torch and some a short.
      Also which side of the roll you stand.
      It’s the even heat dispersed across the roll and under- layer.
      I personally use a detail lamp ( Torch) for everything.
      The secret is in the detail,not the quantity.
      Steve Lewis NAWFRS 2008

    • @lucescuemanuel
      @lucescuemanuel ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for answering! I found out personally. First I bought a butane gas bottle, attached blowing torch, but it seemed that had no power at all like the torches from your videos. Finally I bought a propane bottle gas and it was mind blowing the difference, just like in your videos, it had the power to melt quickly the membrane. Butane gas is for home use , like cooking, for barbeque.
