When people love playing a game but eventually it gets to easy to be entertaining, these kind of game modes develops. Thats why every single popular game since the 90s have a speedrunning community, or other challanges like I remember a guy who was trying the Starcraft 2 campaign without losing a unit etc. Wow HC is also a great source for content creators on YT, and thus creating big hype for it.
Yes agree totally! And thats when you get the most out of a game and you can tell if its a good game, when the community wants to play the game more and will get creative!
Ima retail player that loves Hardcore. But i went from D2 hardmode in 2003 to wow classic hardcore in 2004. With dial up. Hardcore is good because there is something at stake. The rush you get when fighting 4 mobs and survive in 5 health is unmatched in retail and normal classic. This shows in hardcore death clips being so popular even in people that dont play hardcore. Edit. I can level classic wow all day. I HATE with a passion retail levelling

Yes that it, thats why it is so appealing! Its that even not hardcore players know how much effort and time is behind a death.
95% of the time, Classic is easy. When you play Hardcore, however, the 5% of the time it's not easy is really, really lethal.
Classic is easy 100% of the time, but everything in classic is a knowledge check.
Its probably about the knowledge in the game, to know how lethal which encounter is ..
Easy but unforgiving
Thats a perfectly matching statement tbh
