    The reason why battery pack 2 has a higher voltage is because its more worn and so charges quicker. That is why even after the first discharge the battery pack 2 still advanced faster than the others indicating the wear.

    Hi Doug Hnut, your videos are great. Thank you. One question, and I do realise that your video is over a year old, but does the current Mi Home app still show the breakdown of the Battery Cell pack voltages? I can't find it anywhere. I can only see the total voltage. Also it seems the that Ninebot app no longer connects to the M365 stating that it does not support that model scooter. Do you know anything about this?

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      they stopped displaying the breakdown. on the android appstore, there is a app called "m365 battery" that will do the same

      @@DougHnut thanks. Also when I charged my m365 the other day, at about 100% the four lights on the handlebars started flashing in unison, and the tail light was flashing too. Is this an error sign or is it normal? I can't find anything about it in the manual. Also the first charges of the m365 I left the scooter and returned after it was fully charged and the lights had all turned off

    What nice looking internals. My guess is that cell is bad and has lower capacity and thus charges faster. It is not your fault this is a balance issue. You could make a BMS easily. I recommend it.

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that is the problem. the battery is in a 10s3p configuration, so likely 3 cells are the problem. i some better 18650 cells on order to replace the faulty cells. i guess i could add a 10s BMS from ebay to this battery, but i would only use it to charge the battery. the stock BMS has 3 signal wires going to the controller, likely to tell it information(cell voltages, temp etc..) about the battery pack. i don't want to lose that info.

    • @peter-smith
      @peter-smith 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doug, you sound like a techie! See this document for full details on the sophisticated BMS and see Figure 8-2 for circuit diagram of most of the Xiaomi BMS board: www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/bq76940.pdf
      But do remember the BMS relies on being properly connected to a battery pack that has all its 10s3p connections intact.

    Hello Doug, may i ask from you something. I have the opposite problem. My all batteries have 4,140 V, but the Cell4 is a little but under4,112 V. I have a 18650 battery charger (0.5A), do you think i can charge this low cell with this to make it balanced? Thank you for your kind response.

    • @george-broughton
      @george-broughton ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can. Though this may be an indication of a failed cell that has a high leakage current which means it's faulty. If left unchecked, this could lead to fire, though it's unlikely to happen if it's slowly dropping in voltage. It's probably going to get warmer than normal when charging though.
      I would recommend leaving it a day. If it drops further then one or more cells in that parallel section need replacing. It may be your BMS that is bad too, because it should be balancing the cells.
      Check the resistance of all connections to the BMS. If it's offscale high, then you need to find where the break in the circuit is and repair it.
      In theory, you may be able to see which cell is bad just by pointing a thermal camera at it when charging. I would note this isn't recommended. Especially if you're charging at a high current.

  • @happydaydreamer1

    Are they using unprotected cells? This is why I would pay 20 dollars more to get each cell with protection inside battery. Then the BMS does not have to worry about each cell, just cutting charging power when current is zero. I wish though they could produce protected 18650 cells with a pre-set cut-off @ 4 volts. I would definitely pay more for this, even if capacity is lower. That would mean that the battery pack would keep a good charge for many years. Using a lot of 18650 cells and with my charger programmed to 4 volt cut-off my 10 year old cells only have lost 3 percent (of 4 volt capacity). 4.2 volt charged batteries gives way less than this in just a few hundred cycles (all original Panasonic NCR 18650B protected and unprotected).

    • @nilsfrahm1323
      @nilsfrahm1323 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, I think. Newer BMS firmware from xiaomi limited the max voltage, so now 100% is like 94% from before. This helps protect battery, allows more cycles because batteries are not sitting at full charge. It lowers the scooter range a bit, though, but you woukd be able to use it longer time.
      It's possible to flash older BMS version, to regain your capacity, but will be tougher on your battery.

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I first noticed the range problem after my off road trip that ended with a dead battery. So likely the problem was caused by draining the battery till the scooter wouldn't move anymore and leaving it powered on 10-15mins afterward. The battery does have a BMS, but it does not balance charge the batteries. The BMS only prevents over/under charging.

      Doug Hnut Also, you have greater knowledge of the M365 scooter than I and thus I seek advice from those that know more than I. My question if you would consider it, I’m adding a solar charging trailer to my M365 scooter and need to know the best place to wire my Genasun MPPT Lithium Boost charge controller to. The solar panels will connect to the Genasun (providing 41.7 volts for a 36 Volt nominal battery) and the Genasun will connect to the battery. It looks like I can plug the Genasun into the XT30 connector that connects the 36 Volt scooter battery to the scooter. Is this the best place to add charge back into the scooter battery while riding the scooter? Please respond with the greatest possible detail. I’ll await your response with great optimism, enthusiasm and interest. My girlfriend and I are doing this project together, and we are learning a lot in the process. Thank you in advance!
      PS:
      We learned about this solar charging while riding a bike or scooter by watching all of Marissa Muller’s videos here on TH-cam. She cross the country with 240 watts of SunPower solar cells, two Genasun MPPT boast chargers, and a 250 watt Schwinn Specialized model S.

    Hi guys, I just got my M365 scooter and been riding it for a week now. Quick question, does anyone here know if it's optimal to charge it after every ride, or should I wait until the battery goes to at least below 50% before charging? Does this even matter? Is there such a thing as a maximum number of total charges within the batteries?

    • @DougHnut
      @DougHnut  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i find it best to charger after every ride except when the next ride starts with a long downhill, because the regenerative braking will not work until you've used up a bit of the charge. it scared me the first time that happened, had to put my foot on the ground to help me slow down.
      lithium ion cells don't suffer from frequent top ups. using up 20% and charging it back up is better than using up 80% and charging it back up.

      I just checked and I have 41.35 volts at 100% power so the battery seems fine. But I can't get my app to display individual cell power. I have version 1.3.3 firmware and my Samsung S8 says that this is the latest version. I have Ninebot and Mi Home apps installed by the way.

      mine fully charged and still connected to the charger is sitting at 41.55v. you really need to see individual cell pack voltages to really know if there is an issue or not. Only the mi home app can display the individual cell voltages. you should be able to update to 1.3.4 through the mi home app. and im am using a Samsung S7

      I'm not sure what the mi home app is doing for me. When I go to my ninebot app and pair my scooter, then I go to my mi home app, I can see that my Mi Scooter is online. But I can't click into my Mi Scooter and I don't see the menu screens that you see in the mi home app.

    XIAOMI BALANCES BATTERIES. JUST CHARGE YOUR SCOOTER TURNED ON.

      Is that the best way to charge it with it switched on?

      Are you sure because this whole video is about the problem that Xiaomi doesn't balance the batteries

      That doesn't make sense, the bms is on the battery, when you charge it the bms does all the balancing not the other components of the scooter. The issue is the bms is probably a piece of crap.

    Battery Cell Pack2 most likely has a bad battery. therefore this pack fills up faster.
    check the individual batteries in pack 2
