  • Ahoy! Today's adventure takes us far from the Pacific Northwest, across the Pacific Ocean to a glittering island city in Southeast Asia- Cebu City! Cebu Island is it's own province in the Philippines, with the largest metropolitan area sharing its namesake. This adventure highlights old churches and Spanish Colonial architecture, along with extravagant cathedrals which host holy "Santo" or patron saint statues rumored to have mystical, miraculous abilities!
We also enjoy a hotel resort style Pork Adobo in an Ocean-themed bar situated on a private beach. Later, we try a dish made famous by Anthony Bourdain- Lechon Sisig. A roasted pigs face served sizzling hot on a cast iron pan- it's the Pinoy answer to fajitas and carnitas!
The city is in many ways just like those in the US- though the extremes of wealth are far more apparent here. Glistening modern skyscrapers jut above shanty shacks lining sewage canals, the bustling business districts are alive with sharply dressed white collar workers while the street markets are pulsing with the people who make this place work.
In spite of the obvious wealth disparity, I witnessed the happiest, kindest people I've ever had the pleasure to meet!

Hey it's Tino. I love sisig. It is mostly eaten as a pollutant.-> Eating it as you drink adult beverages. Garlic rice is the norm. Carrots and green beans are not the normal ingredients for adobo. Was the day tour offered by the hotel, or you found it off Klook?

Ha ha I could see Sisig being even better after a couple of Red Horse! The garlic rice was amazing, I always opted for that. I did think the veggies seemed weird in the adobo- it can’t touch that pork adobo someone made for Go’s birthday one year! And the tour was booked using the Klook app 🤩🐷
