- Ahoy, welcome back to Adventure Sena! 🌊
Welcome to our new Small Town Spotlight series, featuring the best bits of unique small towns I encounter on my travels! Set sail with us on a historical day trip to Astoria, Oregon, where the rich tapestry of the maritime past meets the vibrant energy of the present! 🚢
Join us as we delve into the captivating history of Astoria, once a bustling hub for shipping and maritime commerce, and now immortalized as the iconic filming location of "The Goonies"! 🎥
Our journey begins at the Lower Columbia History Museum, where we uncover the fascinating tale of Astoria's storied past, from its humble beginnings to its rise as a maritime powerhouse. 🏛️
As we stroll along the waterfront boardwalk, we pay homage to the Maritime Memorial beneath the mighty Astoria-Megler Bridge, the lifeline connecting Oregon and Washington. 🌉
But the real adventure begins when we step into downtown Astoria and discover the hidden gem known as Merry Time Bar. 🍻 Immerse yourself in its nautical punk rock vibe, where Anthony Bourdain himself would have shed tears of joy! 🎸
Indulge your taste buds with their outrageously delicious Nashville hot chicken sandwich, a culinary masterpiece that will leave you craving more! And take on your friends at the pool table or pinball arcade after lunch! 🍔
Our journey takes a detour to witness the haunting beauty of the wreck of the Peter Iredale before ascending to the dizzying heights of the Astoria Column. 🏞️
From the top, we soar high with wooden toy gliders, taking in breathtaking 360-degree views of Astoria and the treacherous Lower Columbia River Bar. 🛩️

My all time favorite town to eat at. ❤
Goonies!
I really need to rewatch the Goonies again and return for a video on the house and film museum too!
Man it’s beautiful out there keep up the good work brotha
Thanks bruh, glad you enjoyed the vid!
Kinda pretty cool video. I love Astoria (I visited it in 2016 for 24 hours). I missed the nautical museum, thanks for the view of it!
They really did a great job renovating it, they’ve added a bit since I visited a few years back
Immaculate vibes as always cousin! The insight you give into your journey is truly amazing! Keep it up!!
Thanks Doxie- really wanting to lean into telling a story in each video, more like Bourdain’s style
You did well with the story telling on this one! Very informative with some great camera shots!
@Paradox_006 thanks mane! I will say the audio is still rough in noisy places even with the lav microphone- I may need to adjust the sensitivity
Great video!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Movie fact. That Carruthers Restaurant use to be "Owl Drug". During the filming of Kindergarten Cop the bad guy goes into a store to buy his son a toy so he would not be showing up empty handed. That store was Owl Drug.
Also a fun fact @5:40 is the only Astoria "beach".
That’s funny! I’ll need to rewatch Kindergarten Cop 👮 Now that you mention it that tiny spit under the bridge is the only sandy patch on the whole waterfront!

Take the pic outta the burg, ya gonna poke ya eye out!
All part of my plan to lose an eye and wear a cool eyepatch!
Really awesome video. You mentioned the Astoria Column is one 1 of 12. Do you happen to know where they other 11 are erected? I can't seem to find that information.
Wow- great question! So I read this info at the Astoria column on a plaque, but it’s possible the other 11 weren’t necessarily columns but different memorials. Here’s what I read “This was the “crowing monument” out of 12 other historical markers spanning from St. Paul, Minnesota to Astoria, Oregon.”
