    Just ordered my first Jurassic, I have 3 XM-18’s. I can’t say much about the Jurassic yet since I don’t have it in hand, but one thing that appeals to me on paper is the size. My 3.5” XM’s are just slightly bigger than I prefer, and the 3” feels dinky. I’m hoping the Jurassic splits the difference just right. But also in West Virginia, 3.5” and bigger is considered a deadly weapon. We can still carry it, but less than 3.5” has some legal advantages like not being hassled at work and some more flexibility with school parking lots/sporting events/state property. Bottom line, shaving 1/4” off the XM makes a big difference for me both in hand and legally, and gives up nothing from a practical perspective.

    After watching this video and thinking through the pros and cons of the XM-18 and Jurassic, I make the only logical choice. I bought both :)

    Imagining a bar of modelling clay that one holds in the hand and squishes it to conform to the contours, I understand the somewhat goofy looks of that handle.
    The XM18 looks handsome of course but maybe for those that do whole workdays having to cut things(are there jobs like those? 😁), the Jurassic may be the more sensible choice.

    I bought a Hinderer several years ago, it was useless as a flipper, I sold it. Now I’m definitely wanting a new triway! Xm18 3.5 slicer.

    People will eventually complain their fingers are slipping off the tab on the Jurassic. Just the same as the compaints rolling in about tri way. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

      The nature of the flipper tab has never been a huge concern to me. I do recognize that some are better than others. Some are more grippy and less comfortable, while others are more comfortable and less grippy! There is always a trade-off. Personally, I like the low-profile flippers (e.g. Vox Dapper or QSP Osprey), that hide behind the handle profile, and so don’t poke at your hand in your pocket.

    I really like the look of the xm18 better but I'm sure you can't go wrong with either one. Thanks for sharing MC great video as usual

    We meet again, Mr Complex;) Quick quiz for ya (I genuinely want to know the answer!), is the slicer grind on the ZT 0562 exactly the same in dimensions as the XM-18's slicer grind? Is there any difference at all? Cheers bro, and a heartfelt thank you for providing us all with daily entertainment, as, speaking for myself- I'm going a bit stir crazy at the mo. What better than kicking back with a cold one and binge watching your Hinderer videos🤔🙄😂

    There's just something about that humpback on the Jurassic that doesn't work for me. Granted it's just aesthetics but its enough to keep me in the XM-18 camp.

    I’ve got an XM-18 3 and 3.5 as well as the XM-24 (all pre-tri-way)
    Just got a Jurassic Slicer Magnacut and it blows the XMs out of the water.
    No real comparison in my opinion.
    I love this model.

    Almost bought a Jurassic from smkw physical store but didn’t know the knife that well. Now that I’ve seen a few reviews I’m thinking I might have to look into one.

  • @yankee2yankee216

    I LIKE the “goofier shape” of the Jurassic, which doesn’t seem goofy to me, rather, it is just a little different. I think it will fill my hand a little better than the XM-18 3.5”. I have an XM-18 3”, so if I can have only one other Hinderer, I want it to be different from my other one. I also have a Viper Storm, which is another Hinderer design, but given the cost, I will probably get just one more Hinderer, almost certainly a Jurassic.

  • @yankee2yankee216
    @yankee2yankee216 ปีที่แล้ว

    I LIKE the look of the Jurassic BETTER than the XM-18, exactly because it is unconventional. It is, truly, just a tiny bit unconventional, i.e. it is the best of tradition AND innovation. I REALLY like it.

    Hello Metal Complex, have you done a review on the 3.5 skinny framelock?

    USAmadeblade is seriously the best. I ordered a Gen 4 Arius yesterday and it was shipped within an hour.

    you can flip the xm 18 without hitting the jimping on the scales.... just flick it down instead of following the flipper

    You are Hinderer,s greatest fan and I like that even over a knife you say is better you will always pick Hinderer awesome !!!!!!! If the jimping is a little uncomfortable fill it in with a little epoxy until you get the required feel for your skin toughness. Say do you have any share's in hinder? Ha ha ha 😂

    On the Jurassic - add thumb studs and grind out the flipper tab in to a forward finger choyle and it's a total winner!

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Jurassic has thumbstuds, but I agree with you on the other suggestions 👍

      One reason I bought the Jurassic was for the flipper. It’s a redundant safety of the lockup if it were ever to fail.

    I just bought my first Hinderer XM-18. Can anyone please tell me how to get the handle screws to stay in without using loctite?

    • @gallowsgradient
      @gallowsgradient 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had this problem as well. Using loctite will void your warranty with Hinderer, but I can't give you any other solution.

    Where can I get an Xm-24 with FRN and aluminum and 420J? I would prefer for the weight reduction of Al and FRN; everyone knows that Hinderers don’t cut anyway, so I would rather have butter knife steel to reduce the chance of inadvertently cutting myself or anything else. Just my $0.02 😏

    no left handed is the only thing keeping me from a Hinderer. I have a 0560bw and it's good but annoying to close so if a lefty xm18 or 24 comes along I'll definitely have one.

    • @GingrBreadMan
      @GingrBreadMan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really sure why it would matter, I'm a lefty and i have no issues with any knife minus the sebenza which i'l admit its annoying af it only comes with 1 thumb stud, and even then its a easy work around i just drop open the blade. I find no benefit with liner locks in the left or right hand, unless I just open an incorrect way and i'm just dumb idk. I open and close all my knives with one hand minus back locks which i'm not a fan of. I just take my thumb and press the lock bar low enough I can get the blade to drop past the detent so I can drop shut after I move my finger. Not sure if your familiar with the spydiechef but it's known for being a bit unfriendly to lefties, I can still easily open and close that one with my middle finger, can't quite flick it but I move the knife far enough I can flick it open. besides the sebenza there is usually a good work around and I honestly wouldn't go out and buy a lefty hinderer.

      Extra late comment, but scored a lefthand xm18 on ebay. Problem was thats the only place that I could find one.
