I did that on my past trips in Alaska, but totally forgot about it. What I love about that, is that you get warm at night and in the morning you have a filtered bottle of non-frozen water for breakfast 🙌 I’m adding this to my list for the next trip.
Thanks for the breakdown! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
What you and Jonathan have done, solo camping in the snow, I really don't see the point in doing this, do you enjoy it or is it just a challenge taken up?
This first round of solo trips is to test out our new gear and get comfortable with it before being the kids with us. We love camping and hiking, since winter is so long in Alaska, we decided that we need to learn how to do it in the winter, too. There can be snow on the ground for 6-8 months. That’s a long time to wait for an adventure. Also, doing a solo trip is a great way to reflect on life and slow down.
I meant to talk about this! Having to get up at night is the hardest, because you have to step into the darkness and expose yourself to the cold. Because I’m wearing snow bibs, I had to take off all my warm upper layers, just to go to the bathroom. I put all my used toilet paper into my garbage bag (which is a ziplock baggie). If you have to go #2 💩 We have discovered the convenience of the WAG Bag - it’s basically a study plastic bag, lined with white powder to absorb liquids and smells. You go in that, tie it off, and carry it home. In the winter, everything freezes so it’s much easier.
Alaska what a beautiful winter wonderland and having the right gear is essential to servival so testing your new gear is very smart especially with kids involved your family is amazing keep doing what you're doing but please don't eat cows tongue again 😊
Women camping alone is good - peaceful, reflective, empowering. I know what you mean, though, it can be a dangerous world with many threats. I just can’t be paralyzed into not experiencing nature or traveling world because of other people’s issues. The best I can do is have good situational awareness, pay attention to what is going on around me and have an exit plan. I wouldn’t leave my house otherwise. You bring up a really good talking point about the world women live in, and anyone who wants to explore the world on their own. 🙏
I stopped bringing bear spray bc I figured with 3 kids in my life now with curious hands lol ( or using it with wind), it could harm us more than a bear. I carry a personal/rape alarm now. I don’t think the bear would like that sound + it could make them flee…what do u think? We only have black bears tho, they are not too aggressive.
When I led backpacking trips, many people would drop their backpacks on the ground and it would land on the bear spray trigger or puncture the can. Always an adventure!! You definitely have to be aware of the wind direction, too!! I’m not sure if you can ever get that stinging pepper residue out of your belongings 🌶️ I like the idea of the whistle!! I bet it would scare a bear, too. The people I have talked with about bears are more afraid of black bears than grizzlies. Maybe there are more curious about people? I’m not sure. I’ll use the bear spray on any threat: bears, wolves, moose, weirdos, etc. You just never know.
@ You are right, blk bears are curious! They have always steered clear of me when I back up + give them space. We only camp by boat in the summer so we put our food in the boat when we are tenting. The personal alarm i have is a keychain battery operated one, with a light too. Would be a good gift or stocking stuffer for the kids for camping to keep in pocket + make them feel safe. Good to sound off occasionally as prevention to keep away predators or if u get lost, ppl can hear where u are, and definitely handy for surprise run ins or middle of the night visitors outside your tent!
Kelly you guys get me nervous… hiking and camping in the wild you guys really need a gun to fight off the bears.. moose the big animals. Really think about it .. I think the spray will just get them angry.. bless you all …❤
Kelly, one small suggestion if you don't mind! since both Johnathan and you are have started solo-camping, you guys should consider owning a gun, just for safety...Again, just a suggestion...best wishes to you and your family..
I had the hot hands in my mittens, so any time I needed my fingers to warm up I put them on. I had to ration them, because I only brought two packets and I wasn’t sure how cold it was going to get that night. Luckily that one packet (with two hand warmers) worked all night 🙌 Jonathan definitely needed them for his feet.
One day, I hope to build a fort and sleep in it. I think the kids would like that, too. One time, we built a snow fort and had hot chocolate and popcorn in it, the kids still talk about it 💙

Loved your solo trip. Very brave Kelly.
Thank you 😊 I love camping and hiking. It’s just been a while since I’ve done a solo trip. It will just take practice to get back into it.
I would have a hot meal Kelly, vegetable stew or pasta
Kelly you guys get me nervous… hiking and camping in the wild you guys really need a gun to fight off the bears.. moose the big animals. Really think about it .. I think the spray will just get them angry.. bless you all …❤
We do have these conversations a lot. It’s so common up here, so we will be researching what makes the most sense.
Y’all went from Thailand to this
You got nerve sleeping out there by yourself. I couldn’t do it
It’s great sleeping outside, but it does take practice so it doesn’t feel so scary or unusual. Once you get past that, it seems more natural.
2 videos without forest 😢
Kelly, one small suggestion if you don't mind! since both Johnathan and you are have started solo-camping, you guys should consider owning a gun, just for safety...Again, just a suggestion...best wishes to you and your family..
Great suggestion, it is a conversation that we have a lot.
nice video fiddlehead
Thank you 😊 Makes me want to tackle another long distance trail!! 🥾 🥾
SUPER2 👍💪👍💪👍👍👍🏆🙏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏👍👌🥰❤️🥰❤️
🎉🎉🎉
Where are your hot hands? Johnathan needed the ones for his feet.
@Kelly.BagsPackedFamily good!
I am pretty sure Kelly sometimes watching solo bushcraft and camping by women.
One day, I hope to build a fort and sleep in it. I think the kids would like that, too. One time, we built a snow fort and had hot chocolate and popcorn in it, the kids still talk about it 💙
Woo hoo, 🙌🏻 Wonderful vlog Kelly, so nice for you to take the lead this time. I like the change up from Jonathan, he’s good but you camping alone is AWWWWEEEEESOMEEEE. I would petrifed at every single creak in the night, I’m a Glasweigan. Scottish lassie ( 53yr old lassie) who doesn’t camp, can walk around a big city at 3am ( or used to) but camping and me just don’t see eye to eye. The kids & Jonathan will be so proud of you and I think it’s fantastic the life lessons that you want your children to learn. We should all take a leaf out of your book with nature soothing the mind. I hope we see much more of Kelly in charge vlogs.
Much love to you all & Merry Christmas to you all.
Did I miss a video? Did Jonathan campjng alone video go live and I’ve missed it?
Scrub that last part, I forgot I had already watched it, I’m sorry 😔
