Great video, beautiful spot to camp. Nice thing about the Midlands is its not a long drive to anywhere. And the scenery didnt need a drone, you took amazing shots at ground level. Thanks as always.
Nice one Todd. Lovely and peaceful there 👌🏻I think I might have been out on the same night. Also nice to see someone not trying to make the Durston into something it wasn’t designed to be 👍. Looks like a great tent but has some compromises just like every other tent. ATB - Dave
Thanks Dave! Such a fantastic calm night. I didn’t discuss it in the video but the stars were unreal 🙌. I typically avoid ultralight tents because I usually prefer durability and storm worthiness over any kind of weight savings for just a single night trip. However, sometimes you really need to be more weight conscious and I’ve been looking for a freestanding tent for multi-day trips. Especially for my packrafting trips when I also have a raft on my back 😅. This tent will be perfect for its intended use. All about choosing the right tool for the job 👍. Of all the lightweight tents I’ve used. This definitely strikes a nice balance. Really appreciate you watching. Hope you have a great Christmas and New Years! All the best.
Great video as always Todd. Super informative and very chilled. I really like your thoughts on the 4 season concept for this tent. Would be excellent for calmer winter camps. I’ve seen a lot of videos of people taking this tent out in heavy winds and some either failing or being badly bashed around. I don’t see the point in this sort of testing or use of an ultralight tent. As you said use the right tool for the job. Also good to get your thoughts on the zen bivvy pad. I’ve looked at it several times but have held off due to it being a bit thinner. Like you I use the tensor extreme for winter and find it to be excellent. 👍
@garynesbitt5078 Thanks! I have many tents. Probably too many 😅. But I use each for their intended purpose. This is going to be fantastic when I need to go lightweight. The Nemo is extremely warm so I will most likely use that pad for the rest of winter but I do think the flex air is maybe a tad more comfortable. So that may become my go to pad when the temps are above freezing. You definitely have to fill it with much more air than you’d think. But once you do it’s really nice.
I was really happy I got to try this tent before the winter weather gets a bit too intense. The sleep system was great, but I think I will need to use my other pad as the weather gets colder 👍 . Thanks for watching!
Congratulations with a new tent! It looks great! Great video too. Looking forward to winter camping, almost no snow over here so I have to wait. Have a great day🤠
You have a new subscriber! I really enjoy your style of videos. I've also never seen anyone put that much effort into outdoor cooking - but it always looks delicious.
Glad you are enjoying the videos. I really love cooking so on these single night camps it’s nice to make myself a good meal. Really appreciate the support 🙏😀. Hope you have a great weekend!
Been looking forward to your next video and really enjoyed this. That coleslaw looked really good! Ive been in similar spots with the drone (phone not charged enough, bateries etc) too many times and its always such a bummer especially when you have perfect flying conditions! The worst for me was in Utah one time and it still irks me to this day haha. Looking forward to seeing your winter camps and wishing you a Merry Christmas with your family. Cheers!
I am often in conditions where the weather is a bit to crazy to fly the drone so it definitely stinks when the conditions are perfect but I can’t because of my own mistake 😩. Oh well. Next time. Really appreciate you watching. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and New Years as well. ATB
Another super video to end your 2024 camping Todd. Thank you so much for taking us on your hikes this year, every one has been brilliant to watch and I wish you and your family a fantastic festive season and I’m sure a fantastic 2025 is to come. All the best. Marc 🙏
Thank you for the kind comment Marc! Really appreciate you continuing to watch my videos and I wish you and your family a happy holiday season as well. All the best!
Cool that you're in touch with Abel and Victoria. Aside from world events and other crap, you are the two channels I watch most often. Helps keep me sane! Expecting delivery of the Pomoly Leo 2 on Sunday. So anxious to try hot tent camping. First site will be on one of my ponds.
Outdoor TH-cam videos is also a nice escape from the day to day for me as well 👍. The Leo looks nice. Lots of venting features which is nice! Hope you have a nice camp!
Thank you for another vid. Top stuff! I wish everyone (inc you and yours) happy holidays. I live in the east mids too (Northants). I look forward to your hot tent camp in 2025.
I’ve been eagerly awaiting this one! I am also from the East Mids and am up in the Lakes over the holidays hoping to get my X Dome out for the first time!
👍😀. I was really happy I got a calm night and I was able to get out in it before the winter conditions get too crazy. Really look forward to using it again come spring. Hope you enjoy the holidays and your trip!
Thanks for a great year of camping videos! You inspired me to get out and I was able to get 3 camps in this year before it got cold. Looking forward to more camps next year and watching ALL of your content. Merry Christmas to you and your family from Ontario Canada. Cheers!
Thank you! That’s great you were able to get out on a few camps. I look forward to many more in 2025. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and New Year as well. All the best.
Thanx for the video! Its the best review of the tent so far. Nice camera work. I have the same setup as you (dome x and zenbivy and I am looking forward to my first trip. Greetings from germany.
This is far from a review but I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I was just happy I got to use the tent before the weather gets a bit too cold. I’m really looking forward to using it in the spring and summer on some of my pack rafting trips when I really try to reduce the weight im carrying. The Zenbivy system was a surprise. I really didn’t expect it to be as comfortable as it was. They really need to start marketing this to stomach sleepers because normal sleeping bags are just not comfortable in that position. This was fantastic. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week.
Another great video. Love that tent and the color too. The inner will make a big difference I think. I haven't used a trangia stove yet. Since the fuel lasts long and you brought extra can it be used to take the chill out of the tent along with that candle light? Everytime I watch your videos I have to laugh. Since I camp in only heavily wooded areas when I watch your videos I keep thinking you're on Mars! I always say hey look there's water on Mars. 😅 Great meal too. The sandwich crunch made it sound really good. Thanks for taking us along and for all the information. 😊
Very pleased with the tent and the color 👍. I think here in the UK I would probably prefer using a solid inner with this tent year round. I could use the trangia inside the tent for a bit of warmth but I do try to limit the time I’m using an open flame inside the tent. My primus gas lantern is fantastic for warming a tent. You’ll definitely be seeing that pop up in a video this winter. That crunch from the pickle each bite is very satisfying 👍. I always really appreciate your thoughtful comments. Thanks for continuing to watch and take the time to comment. ATB
Glad you enjoyed it. Still bummed I didn’t get to fly the from in these perfect conditions but there is always next time. Really appreciate you watching. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week.
Great camp. What perfect conditions. Appreciate youe effort to capture it. ...Cancelled two trips coz of weather....but bring on a winter camp.!.... I've watched lots of tents get trendy and come and go. Even the other Durstons, and not really been interested. But this tent seems worthy of the hype to me. Great space. I don't camp at tarns too much because of the view sacrifice. But that looked fantastic 👍
For its intended use I think it’s fantastic. I think people just need to remember it’s an ultralight tent and it’s not meant to be used like a 4 season tent in crazy weather. But compared to other ultralight tents it’s completely freestanding, single pitch, has a very spacious interior and a good sized vestibule. It’s exactly what I was looking for when I’m going on trips that require me to significantly cut the weight.
I haven’t really been doing anything different, but I am a bit more conscious of the audio when the camera is pointed away from me 👍. Appreciate you watching.
Thanks for the tip about using the DD Magic Carpet XL as a footprint. I've got one at the back of the cupboard that's never been used. Pressed the button on this tent today. Been cogitating for a few days. I've been looking for a roomy three season freestanding solo tent. Can't wait to try it out. Great video as always. Take care.
The DD Magic Carpet fits the rectangle of this tent perfectly! 👍. I think as a lightweight 3 season tent it’s prefect for its intended use. I would definitely use this over my Big Agnes or old MSR anytime I’m looking to really save a lot of weight. Really appreciate you watching!
Definitely the fastest 51 minutes of the week! Well done for trying that tent in such cold conditions, good job the wind stayed calm ;) I would like to see the meal on your site, if you get time. (The Korean beef was sublime).
🙏😀 I was very happy to get such a calm day so I could try the tent before the winter conditions get a bit too crazy. I can definitely add the pulled pork sandwich recipe to the website. Because I didn’t actually cook the pork shoulder at camp the recipe will require some cooking at home first that’s, why I wasn’t sure I was gonna put it on the website, but I definitely can. Glad you enjoyed the Korean beef 👍. Really appreciate your continued support
Fab video as always mate. Beautiful place to spend the night. The new sleep system looks great. I’ve just ordered a rab neutrino 600 sleeping bag so I’m looking forward to getting out this weekend to try it out. ATB Paul 👍
Thanks! At some point I am going to need to get my hands on a Rab sleeping bag because I’ve only heard good things 👍. Although as a stomach sleeper, I may have found a system that I’m going to be using for a number of years now. Really appreciate you watching Paul. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week.
Cracking stuff mate as per. Great conditions for a camp - I seem to be cursed lately. Loving the X Dome, I look forward to trying it. Thanks for some top content this year and here's to the next one pal. Atb and have a merry Christmas 🎄👍
Thanks buddy! I got distracted from our conversation over on IG answering comments here on TH-cam 😅. I think you are going to like the X-Dome. I typically avoid ultralight tents because I find them too flimsy, but this strikes a very good balance between strength and weight. For what it is, I think it’s perfect for those camps where you are really trying to save weight. And the fact that it is fully freestanding with a vestibule, roomy, and it can be single pitched, makes it great for the UK. Although, getting that solid inner for it is going to be nice! Really hope you and your family have a great Christmas. ATB buddy
Another great video and once again I'm mystified how you can polish off so much food! As a two and a half season camper at best I'm starting to think the X-Dome may be my perfect tent. Unfortunately orders are currently not shipping until April next year. I'll have to watch out for early adopters selling barely used tents!
👍😀 I’ve always had a really fast metabolism. I think this is a fantastic tent for its intended use, ultralight three season camping. If you’re not planning on using it until the spring, I would just wait for the April release. Durston is fantastic at listening to user feedback and updating their tents. For instance, I think I’ve already heard him say that they’re planning on including an extra guy out point towards the base of each corner, which I think it needs. That’ll be a great update to have 👍. Really appreciate you watching. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week.
Another ripping adventure. Inwant to wish you and yours the very best for the festive season and new year mate. Ive so enjoyed the year. Its given me inspiration to walk when ive least felt like it and as a result of hard work its paid off. 😊🎄🎉🎄🎄🎄🎊🙏👏
The contentment shows in you when you get up there Being that you live in East Midlands I totally understand 😂 I’ve been working up there a lot this year and wow it’s busy so much traffic and people rushing about it’s definitely needed for you to escape that and get some peace and serenity
Fortunately, we are in a very small village in Northhamptonshire so it’s very calm and quiet here but nothing compares to being in the Lakes. It’s definitely my happy place 😀⛰️🙌
Cheers Got one on order for the next batch so nice to see it really being used Got to be honest, even though I cook properly, I’d maybe have done the salad bit before for an overnighter. Also a Meths cooker fella so also nice to see Overall, excellent, thanks
I feel jealousy that you are staying at wonderful locations of Lake District . though you can not help me for my (positive ) Jealousy, but enjoy with my feelings, i used to life at Bolton for 5yrs, now i am Midlands since 2006, and you mentioned that you are in Midlands (text says East Midlands). anyway i always enjoy your beautiful captures of Lake District. hopefully one day we come across at Lake District. Thank you - RAMS
Yes I’m in the East Midlands so it’s a bit of a drive getting to the Lake District but it’s worth it. It’s one of my favorite places on the planet. If you think you see me while out hiking there, make sure you stop me and say hi! Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a nice holiday season. All the best.
Great video. Really informative. Have the X-mid solid but tempted by the X-dome solid when it comes out next year. Sounds like that will be more suited to UK windy conditions? Happy Christmas.
I don’t think I would ever choose an ultralight tent over my other tents when the conditions are very windy here in the UK. However, for multiday trips or packrafting trips when I am being much more weight conscious, an ultralight freestanding tent like this is perfect! I also think a solid inner is also much better for year-round use here in the UK. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment.
#29 to "Like" Excellent decision to stake the extra guyout lines for added structural support, just in case Mother Natures starts blowing some strong gusty winds. Durston has come up with a 3-season tent which seems to be a "winner" in so many ways, not the least of which is being able to pitch the footprint, inner & outer simultaneously + it's roomy. Wool beanie - I don't remember seeing you wearing it. I make it a point to have gear designed to keep my head, neck, & face warm. The Drone - BUMMER.- next time! On your hike back down - I always have a thin calf skin pair of work gloves to protect the palms of my hands if I slip, trip, or fall, from lacerations. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada, U.S.A.
For its intended purpose I agree. I think it’s a winner. And from what Dan’s done with the X-Mid I’m sure each iteration of this tent is only going to get better and better. As it is now, this is far better than any Big Agnes or MSR tent I’ve used. And being able to single pitch the tent like my Hillebergs is awesome. I’m really happy I have this in my gear closet for this upcoming spring and summer camps when I’m looking to reduce the weight but I want to bring a freestanding tent. This is going to be great for my pack rafting or multiday trips. I’ve had this wool beanie for going on seven years now. I believe I wore it in my first TH-cam video. I always have it with me on my winter camps 👍. I did forget my neck buff though. I’m still really irritated I couldn’t fly the drone. I can’t believe I made the same mistake a second time. The conditions were absolutely perfect and the landscape looked incredible covered in frost. 😩 I will have to wait until next time. As always, really appreciate your comments. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors I, too, have & wear Buff headgear because it can be worn in so many different configurations. I have a thin, Buff for warmer weather that I like to get wet, the evaporation keeps my head comfy cool. I also have their thick winter Buff that I often wear in the balaclava configuration/to keep my face/head/neck covered. Gloves have protected the palms of my hands from lacerations when hiking on more times than I care to admit. For the record, your air mattress is R4.8 rated.
Brilliant video. For a roomy three season tent you should look at the Hilleberg Niak, it’s my favourite tent by a country mile. Relatively lightweight, solid and a doddle to put up with just two poles which are the same length.
The Unna is by far my favorite tent of all time, so I’m absolutely sure I would love the Niak! However, I’ve been looking for a lightweight tent to absolutely save as much weight as possible and this was just a better fit. Especially for the trips I’m planning to use it. Multiday packrafting trips when I am being much more conscious of weight because I am also carrying the raft on my back. Although, at some point in the future I’m sure I will not be able to control myself and I might get a Niak. Although I really need to work on my self control. Really appreciate you watching it taking the time to comment. Hope you enjoy the rest your week.
@@GoingSoloOutdoorsohh I am enjoying every minute of the video now.... always enjoyable and a pleasure to see you doing such a beautiful camping man ❤❤...and the weather is fantastic with the mesmerizing views
I just cut a cheap cutting board to the size of the pan. That way it sits inside the pan when closed and protects the nonstick coating so that the stove doesn’t scratch it.
Good vid. Beautiful views even without the drone. They are a PITA most of the time. Hardly ever use mine. So many restrictions. The sky is crowded with commercial ones as well. People are crazy too. Good looking sleep system. Packs small enough. The pad is more important than the bag. 4 times the insulation of the bag is needed. I believe Tom Heaney has a review of the Samaya three season. He has been trying one or two models of it. He posted one a few days back. He does some extreme tests. Be interesting how the solid inner does. Hey have a good holiday with all the family and friends. All good from east Kentucky USA. Snow tomorrow. Next time
I really just enjoy using my drone because it’s a quick way for me to scout new camping locations as well. The photography nerd in me also likes to see these areas I camp from an aerial perspective. I agree the pad is the most important part of your sleep system 👍. I have a Nemo pad with an 8.5 R value Which is fantastic. However, I’ve been looking for a new three season pad. I think this pad is more comfortable than my Nemo and will definitely replace it in the spring and summer months, but for winter my Nemo extreme conditions is unbeatable. I’ve seen some Samaya tents but I typically stay away from single wall shelters. They are just not for me and the personally I think the color of their tents is a bit of an eyesore. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment as always. I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season as well. All the best
Thanks! No more new tents for me for a while 😅. I have been really wanting an ultralight tent for those trips where I just really really need to shave the weight. The only problem is most are trekking pole tents which I don’t typically use when filming. So I’ve been really anticipating this one for quite some time. The Keron is a beast!! 👍😀. Really appreciate you watching.
Thanks! This tent doesn’t come with stakes unless you purchase them separately so I had a combination of stakes. I had both large and small V-shaped DAC pegs that Durston sells and 4 small pegs that came with my DD tarp 👍
Dont mean to rub salt into your wound but Drone footage in that location in those conditions, with the light at that early time of day would have been awesome, but i reckon you knew that anyway. Great all round video as usual though👌. Looking forward to next years episodes already, thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
🤣 that 100% rubs salt in the wound! I know 😩 they were fantastic conditions and it looked beautiful! I am not making this mistake again. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas as well 🎄
Another great video. You need the Starlink Mini, update drone app call home check weather 1.15 kilos fits in backpack. I use it with the Anker 27650 mah battery 650 grams
That’s a bit heavy for me. I typically prefer not having any cell service. And I can still use my Garmin to communicate with my wife if I need to. I just really need to pay more attention and make sure the app is still downloaded before a trip 😅. Really appreciate the recommendation though. Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoy the rest your week.
OFF TOPIC - During this video I believe you mentioned that the Hilleberg Unna is your favorite 4-season tent. Have you watched Hlleberg?s most recent video showing the Unna & how it withstands strong winds with the standard 9mm poles, with double 9mm poles, with a 10mm pole & with different guyout line configurations?
Thank you for sharing your video! ive just got the x-dome too, and i'm eager to get out with it. I love the candle light set up (UCO I think) giving off a natural light seems so much better than the harsh led white lights. can I ask what boots you are wearing, they look pretty solid. thanks again for the video, I love stillness of where you were and I can also see that you appreciate that 🙂 great work!! and happy Christmas! 🎄✨
Love having a gas or candle lantern in winter when you are spending long nights in the tent. The are a very old pair of insulated duck style Kamik boots. They are still going strong after many years of use 👍. Thank you for watching. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year!
Love the channel. Welsh lad living in the States (WA, CO, IL and MA) and grew up exploring Snowdonia and Brecon Beacons. What is the stove system you are using?
I am a simple cook, yes please put this recipe on your website! 🙂 Also I recommend a dedicated DJI controller for the drone (rather than dependent on the phone) - they just work better and it means you don't have to commit your phone. Great video as ever- your cinematography skills are superb!
Thanks a great recommendation! Having a dedicated controller would completely solve the issue with the drone 👍. I will go ahead and put the recipe on my website however, you can’t completely make it at camp. You will have to cook the pork shoulder at home either in a pressure cooker or low and slow. Really appreciate you watching. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week.
@GoingSoloOutdoors thanks, have a lovely Christmas. One day I will try one of your recipes in my own camping videos and credit you. Er, if it works out...!
Yes I can put the recipe on the website. The only reason I wasn’t going to include it is because most of those meals or meals that can be cooked at camp. This sandwich can be made at camp, but you really have to cook the pork shoulder at home first low and slow or in a pressure cooker. Really appreciate you watching as always. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season.
These are the Fjallraven Keb Trousers. I actually purchased these many years ago from REI when I was living in the states. I would check there to see if you can get them on sale or you can go Fjallravens website 👍
What a gift of a camp, Todd!! Amazing light and views. Very interesting gear, both Zenbivy and Durston. Thanks a lot for the video. I always learn new camping hacks watching your videos. What are the boots you used, btw? I am thinking of buying a new pair of insulated winter boots and yours look cool. Thanks again!!
Being stuck in a tent for 18hrs in the winter with two new pieces of gear definitely made me a bit chatty on this camp 😂. Really pleased with both of though. I kinda knew this tent would be perfect for what I’m planning to use it for in the spring for multi day or pack rafting trips so I was glad I got to use it before the winter season really starts. I honestly thought the Zenbivy stuff was hype when I first saw people using it on TH-cam. But, I can now confirm it’s crazy comfortable as a stomach sleeper. I’ve actually gotten quite a few questions about these boots in the comments section. They are super old duck style insulated boots from Kamik. I got them on sale for pretty cheap many many years ago and I’m not quite sure if they still make them but they’re still going strong and get the job done 👍. Really appreciate you watching and continuing to comment on the videos. Hope you enjoy the rest your week.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors I'm a side sleeper too so was really curious about the whole system. It was a great report!! Oh, and thnx for the info on the boots. I'll check if Kamik keeps making them. They look very nice. Seem less bulky than the most known Kamiks.
😂👍. I’ve always wanted to add an extreme sleeping bag to my gear closet, but the Polar Ranger is almost unusable here in the UK. It’s just way too hot of a bag. And it forces me to sleep on my back, which isn’t great. However, if I need a bag for crazy temperatures, I’m happy to still have it. I’m extremely happy with this new system though. I think this is going to be my go to setup for quite some time. Zenbivy just announced an even warmer bag but I think this will be just fine for UK winters. Appreciate you watching.
Bummer about your drone app being offloaded. Otherwise nice video. Thanks and happy Christmas. I think that's what they say in the UK , rather than Merry Christmas here in the US.
The conditions were absolutely incredible for flying the drone 😩. Still upset about that but as you said, there’s always next time! Really appreciate you watching. Hope you enjoy the restrest of your week.
Great video and camping spot as always, new tent looks boss, I definitely much prefer the all in ones with the clip-ons rather than having to slide poles into guides. Magnets, MAGNETS, now why didn't I think of that, so much better than them fiddly toggles especially with cold hands, that bloody drone is jinxed😆 Though my last camp my drone refused flatly not to go further than 30m away because I hadn't updated the firmware, technology hates me😁chin chin, PS, I like the fact that you don`t declare where you are which gives me a challenge to see if I can use my inner lake district sixth sense to locate where you actually are pitched, good one sir.
Really happy with the tent. I’ve been looking for an ultralight tent for quite some time. Unfortunately, most use trekking poles and when I’m filming, I don’t typically carry them. So I’ve been anticipating this one for quite some time. It will be great for my packrafting trips or multiday hikes when I’m looking to save weight. I’m determined to get the drone out next camp!! I’ve also had that firmware issue before where it wouldn’t fly very far 😅. I definitely think part of the fun when I watch others camp in the lake district is always trying to figure out where people are 😂👍. Really appreciate your comment. Hope you enjoy the rest your week.
beautiful frosty weather! Your tolerance for cold is quite high, I think. You're walking with no gloves on - in 6*C in Leicester just walking the dog in the park I'm stomping around with a hat, gloves, scarf and a knee length coat (although I fully admit I'm at the more ridiculous other end of the cold-tolerance spectrum...)! Even so it's amazing what tech can do to allow humans to survive in colder conditions and lightweight at that. Such a shame about the drone - it would have been gorgeous flying weather. Maybe you need to add "check app is still installed/start it up" to your pre-trip-checklist in order to prevent your phone doing that again? hopefully you'll get some similar calm & clear conditions later in the winter somewhere :) Did you ever get your hands on Tynt Meadow by the way? Mount St. Bernard Abbey is doing a new "Three Rules" beer which is supposed to be very good - but not one to take on a trip, it doesn't exactly come in small bottles! The profits from their new beer are being donated to a company planting trees so its all good for the environment. Hope you have a great Christmas!
I typically run a bit on the warm side. I get hot very easy so I typically won’t put on gloves unless I’m standing still in temperatures below freezing. I agree camping gear has come a long way. I still remember when I would use multiple wool blankets during the winter time with multiple foam pads when I first started camping 😂. How times have changed. Thanks for the beer recommendation I have to add it to the list. Really appreciate your comment. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week and the holidays. All the best.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors ohhh tell me about it - I remember shivering when camping as a child - in summer! those were blow up airbeds and basic sleeping bags (in the late 70s, I hasten to add!). Re: Beer - if you can get over to Mount St. Bernard Abbey they have an abbey shop now where they sell all the trappist beers so it's probably worth wandering over at some point - but do check opening hours, I think its only Fridays and Saturdays at the moment :) Merry Christmas!
Cheers 🍻 great video, as always. What boots do you use? Are they gore-tex? I checked out your gear list on your website, but you didn’t list any outerwear.
Thanks! No these are not gortex. These are a just a really old pair of insulated boots from Kamik. I like to use these duck style boots in the winter time because the ground is typically always wet. Really appreciate you watching.
Great video thanks, just what I need right now, fantastic pitch and scenery, How light is the xdome ? I have a big Agnes tiger wall which it reminds me of . Thanks for sharing 🙂
It is a hair less than 1kg. I have a Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2. Although I haven’t used it in a very long time. I have pretty much abandoned, using all of my inner pitch first tents. I really enjoy being able to pitch the outer, inner, and ground sheet all at the same time. Especially if the weather is not great. Thanks for watching!
@ ,got to agree especially in the British climate. It looks like a good balance for the uk in calmer conditions. I’ve just gone all out hillberg, just bought a jannu, cheers. Have fun in the new tent 🏕️
@@twiggyescapes 👍😀. I wanted a lightweight freestanding tent for my multi day or packrafting trips where saving weight is more important. I’ve always wanted to check out the Jannu 👍, but when I had some extra cash, I ended up purchasing the Allak 2 instead because having the two vestibules was better suited for using it with my kids. Although, part of me still wants to checkout the Jannu at some point. But I need to work on my self control 😅
Gorgeous scenery and exceptional filming. Is this a new camera or lens? The Durston must have felt like carrying a pack of Kleenex after your usual 4 season tents. First time I see you pre-cooking anything....not much choice here of course.
Thanks! Same camera and lens 👍. You are absolutely right, it felt like I was carrying nothing compared to my normal tents 😂. I think my food bag weighed more than the tent. I’m really excited to use it in the spring for those trips that require me to really be more conscious of the weight I’m carrying. But for the rest of the winter, there’s nothing as comfortable as using one of my Hillebergs 🙌⛺️. 100% worth the weight. Really appreciate you watching. Hope you enjoy the rest your week 👍
22:35 - your 8 section metal windscreen I have something similar, it is 16 sections 9.5" tall, 3.25" wide & weighs 14.5oz - in case you're wondering if there is a longer windscreen that might be useful to shield a larger pot/frying pan. The longer windscreen would be more effective as a reflector behind a campfire. I suspect you, MEeee, & the rest of the outdoor community is wondering if or when Durston will design, engineer, & produce a 4-season tent that pitches footprint/inner/outer simultaneously. Durston - Warranty. Customer Service - Can you call & talk to a real live Customer Service Representative? How long is the Warranty on Durston Tents? Something worth mentioning in your next video featuring a Durston tent. Did you happen to notice if The zippers on Durstan tents are YKK Teeth zipper or YKK Coil zippers? Coil zippers are less likely to snag when zipping or unzipping & are on Hilleberg tents. Merry Christmas to you & your family - Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada, U.S.A.
When you put on your backpack, put your elbow through the second strap first, instead of trying to push the backpack away from you and trying to put your hand through the strap. Much easier to do.
I’ve never found it hard to get a backpack on whichever way I’m doing it. And it’s probably a bit different each time. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week.
Thanks for the always excellent videos. Is your Fjällräven beanie the Byron?, can you tell me if it itches your forehead?, having trouble finding a warm and non itching hat.
Typically, in the places I camp, I will choose a day mid week and a location that’s not very crowded so I rarely even see other hikers. I am also camping in the UK so animals are not a concern. If I was back in the states, I would recommend having bear spray depending on the season and your location. I would also make sure you’re familiar with an area before you decide to camp there. I always give my wife a map of my planned route and I always have my Garmin satellite communicator with me so that I can contact her or emergency services. Other than that, I would just do a bit of research. I know what I need to do to feel safe, but I’m not a woman, so I’m sure there are plenty of things I’m also not thinking about so I would recommend asking another woman with experience solo camping. Hope that helps. Really appreciate you watching.
I’m always happy to answer any questions but that’s a huge chore and I don’t want people to think I’m trying to sell them something. I occasionally include a link to an item if it’s new to me, but usually I’ll just add it to my gear page on my website 👍. Like I said always happy to answer any questions about clothing though. It doesn’t really change much.
He lists all the items he purchases and uses on his website. His website is listed above and on Instagram. Why should Goin Solo double the work. He is one of the most conscientious you tubers I have had the pleasure of interacting with. He is so incredibly helpful and talented with meal prep. He uses top-notch equipment and will respond to questions about his choices.
Thank you 🫴🌹 so much for amazing year, full of incredibal videos 🏞 full of adventures 🛶 You are the 👑 ⛰️ king of the mountains and a very brave person. I wish you a lot, a lot of blessings beautiful mornings ⏰️ weake up to infront of unforgetable location and also i wish a 🎯 huge success with your channel. 🎉Exciting, happy New Year✨️🍻
i think i have sickened myself from going camping, my local shop told me yesterday i need a 400 pound mountain equipment sleeping bag to go winter camping. I showed them my mammot wave iv -10c polyester bag and they said it was no good because of the cold spots. i dont know who to trust anymore because i think too many people are not genuine and want my money
Simply do your own research online. Basically there is a bag for every budget no matter how many bucks you have but there is not a bag for every weather condition.
I used an old marmot sawtooth 15°F bag for years in the winter and it only cost me $250. I did have to wear an extra layer of clothing and use a hot water bottle on the really cold night but as long as I was using a warm enough pad I was fine. I think investing in a good sleeping bag in the winter is money well spent but you can do little things to make it work for less. Like using sleeping liners or even a quilt on top of your sleeping bag. I would always try it in your garden first though just in case it’s not warm enough. Hope that helps 👍
@ this down jacket is made my REI. It’s an outdoor retailer in the US. This jacket is crazy old so I’m not sure if they make it anymore but if they do. It has served me well for years! 👍 Appreciate the sub!
@@GoingSoloOutdoors thats all we can do and thanks. i tried two sleeping bags in my garden and found the 3 season bag to be warmer due to the cold spots on my 4 season one. really need something to keep my back warm because the rest of my body was really warm
I have been waiting for a new camping video from you in a Hilleberg braving the weather, but it seems the x dome has taken over the world as every camping channel on TH-cam has one making all the videos similar. Shame.
As I say in the video, I don’t go searching for bad weather 👍. I have many Hillebergs because in my option they are the best tents in the world and when living in area with often rough weather, like the UK. It’s nice to have that price of mind. As I also mentioned in the video I will be using one of my proper 4 season tents ( a Hilleberg ) for the rest of the winter. Even though I’m an adult I’m still a kid and heart. So when I get a new toy (like this tent) I want to try it out. I’ve been waiting for this tent to come out for a long time so I just really want to try it before the winter conditions become too severe. It’s a 3 season tent and we are moving into winter so this was the perfect opportunity 👍. I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week. I’m sure I will get stuck caught in some fowl weather at some point 😅. After all, it’s the UK
Great pitch, really like the looks of this area - what tarn is this your near here? Tent looks good too, about time a ‘Durston’ came in a decent discreet colour! 😄 Although I really don’t know how it can be described as a 3-Season, or even a 3+Season with all that mesh, looks more like a 2+Season shelter to me in that current configuration..🤷🏻♂️ Who knew you lived so close to me lol, as I also live in the East Midlands area, on the outskirts of Derby specifically. 👍🏻
I am very happy the color is discreet. This definitely checks all the boxes of a three season tent, especially where I’m from back in the states 👍. Although, in the UK, I think a 4 season tent is more appropriate for year round use 😂 which is why I typically always use one of my Hillebergs. The only reason I might this a 3+ season rating is because it is a single pitch tent (not an inner first like most other 3 season tents), the fly comes much closer to the ground than your typical 3 season tents like a Big Agnes or MSR, and the pole structure can handle some snow load. The vents are my only big concern here in the UK because we often get crazy driving rain in windy conditions and I can see that water going straight up through the vent, even if it was closed. However, I wanted this tent specifically for those trips that require me to carry less weight like multi day trips or pack rafting trips where I’m also carrying a raft on my back 😅. For those situations it’s perfect. Driving to the lakes is quite far for us, but it’s worth it. Really hope you enjoy the rest your week and thanks for taking the time to comment.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors No worries, thanks for your reply also.. Yes it’s a good drive that’s for sure, I’ve not managed to get to the Lakes so far this year, but planning on going up for two nights wild camping over the upcoming holidays, really looking forward to it! 😊 I mainly just camp out in the Derbyshire Peaks these days, with it only being a 55-85 min drive away. It’s not as impressive as the Lakes, but still a stunning place that we are very lucky to have on our own doorstep. 👍🏻
As a very experienced wilderness mountain guide and first responder I gently would recommend you don’t take an ultralight tent with ultralight thin carbon poles out in winter on ridge tops exposed to high winds. It could make for an unhappy experience if not a fatal one. Cheers
Great mono. Fantastic views loved the tent ( looks like it needs an inner though ). Look forward to seeing your next mono. OUTSTANDING.
Tent looks awesome, great watching as always.
Thanks! I really looking forward forward to using it this spring 👍
Stunning view! I so appreciate you sharing your trips with us!
It’s a beautiful place 🙌⛰️. Really appreciate you watching.
Great video, beautiful spot to camp. Nice thing about the Midlands is its not a long drive to anywhere. And the scenery didnt need a drone, you took amazing shots at ground level. Thanks as always.
I love the colour, really blends in with a lot of environments
I really like the colour as well! 👍 It’s a
nice muted green. Really appreciate you watching.
It’s a great looking tent and I also really like the sleep system. Top spot to camp too. Nice relaxed outing👍
I was really happy I got to try this tent before the winter weather gets a bit too intense. The sleep system was great, but I think I will need to use my other pad as the weather gets colder 👍 . Thanks for watching!
I watch quite a few channels like this, but I really do have a soft spot for this channel. Excellent video again 👍
That means a lot 🙏! Thank you for sticking around and continuing to watch my videos. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week.
great video ,love the cooking.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! It’s always nice in the day with a nice meal. Appreciate you watching.
Congratulations with a new tent! It looks great! Great video too. Looking forward to winter camping, almost no snow over here so I have to wait. Have a great day🤠
Thanks! Really looking forward to getting out for a proper snow camp. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week.
Awesome video as always. Keep up the great work & Happy Holidays! :)
Thank you! Happy holidays to you and your family as well.
Another amazing adventure, love how you do it thank you for you help with the last video 😊👍🏻👍🏻
👍😀 Really enjoyed this camp. Appreciate you watching!
All throughout watching you cooking I was thinking were is the beer man! Normally, we see that first 😅
😂👍 I wouldn’t forget that! Appreciate you watching
Thank you for another vid. Top stuff! I wish everyone (inc you and yours) happy holidays. I live in the east mids too (Northants). I look forward to your hot tent camp in 2025.
Thank you for continuing to watch my videos. Same! Hope you and your family enjoy the holidays as well. All the best.
super super super. i love your all videos. always waiting for new vid. you'are my best favourite vlogger )
That’s very kind of you! Thank you for continuing to watch 🙏😀. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week.
Agreed I don’t drop what I’m doing for most TH-cam videos but always for this channel
Another beautiful video filmed exceptionally well
Very relaxing
Thank you sir ❤🤙
Thank you! I really appreciate you continuing to watch and take the time to comment 🙏😀. I hope you enjoy the rest of your week
I’ve been waiting for your video since last time!
👍😀 it was nice to get a cold weather camp. Really looking forward to this winter season. Appreciate you watching.
ATB
Drone or no drone, I throughly enjoyed this camp out. Many thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it. Still bummed I didn’t get to fly the from in these perfect conditions but there is always next time. Really appreciate you watching. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week.
I enjoyed the video. It's great.
Thanks! Appreciate you watching 🙏😀
Great food with a view 😎 would love see your slaw recipe please 🙏 atb
I will get it on my website soon 👍. Appreciate you watching.
Merry Christmas Great camp
Hope you have a nice Christmas 🎄
Audio improvement with the camera pointed away is amazing. 👍🏻
I haven’t really been doing anything different, but I am a bit more conscious of the audio when the camera is pointed away from me 👍. Appreciate you watching.
great film!
Thanks!
This looks really cosy
I really enjoyed this camp. I was very fortunate to get perfect conditions.
When do you expect delivery of your tent?
Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada, U.S.A.
April 25@@azclaimjumper
@ thanks buddy you too 👍
Cracking stuff mate as per.
ATB buddy
nice bro. Glad to see you
Always nice getting back out! Hope you’re having a great week
Another great video and once again I'm mystified how you can polish off so much food!
As a two and a half season camper at best I'm starting to think the X-Dome may be my perfect tent. Unfortunately orders are currently not shipping until April next year. I'll have to watch out for early adopters selling barely used tents!
Good to know that backorders won't ship til April 2025. That speaks volumes about Durston products.
Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada, U.S.A.
@@azclaimjumper That's for the UK though so it may be different in the US, but as you say it suggests big demand.
🙏👍😀 hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season as well! 🎄🎄
Love from India ( Bharath ) ❤

@GoingSoloOutdoors I hope make regular videos here's we r waiting to watch out your amazing camping video
The contentment shows in you when you get up there
Being that you live in East Midlands I totally understand 😂 I’ve been working up there a lot this year and wow it’s busy so much traffic and people rushing about it’s definitely needed for you to escape that and get some peace and serenity
Fortunately, we are in a very small village in Northhamptonshire so it’s very calm and quiet here but nothing compares to being in the Lakes. It’s definitely my happy place 😀⛰️🙌
Cheers
Got one on order for the next batch so nice to see it really being used
Got to be honest, even though I cook properly, I’d maybe have done the salad bit before for an overnighter. Also a Meths cooker fella so also nice to see
Overall, excellent, thanks
My wife would like me to cook as well as this at home 😊
👍😀 this is a pretty easy one to make. You should give it a try. Thanks for watching!

#29 to "Like"
Excellent decision to stake the extra guyout lines for added structural support, just in case Mother Natures starts blowing some strong gusty winds.
Yes the new one is a 4.8R. I mentioned it on the hike back down the mountain 👍
Very nice 👍🙂
Thank you 👍. Appreciate you watching!
Egarly waiting for this man ❤

@@GoingSoloOutdoorsohh I am enjoying every minute of the video now.... always enjoyable and a pleasure to see you doing such a beautiful camping man ❤❤...and the weather is fantastic with the mesmerizing views
It was so nice to get a calm silent night!
Hi. What are you using there for a cutting board??
@GoingSoloOutdoors thanks yeah tgey are a bit puky looking. Like my green ones. The blend in nature
Another superb video my friend!!! What is it with us men and new tents😂 just treated myself too a new car camping tent also. Keron 3.... Beast.
👍😀. Really appreciate you watching.
wonderful video😊what stakes do you use?
Yes I have 👍. I always enjoy it when Hilleberg brings out the wind machine!
Outstanding! Merry Christmas and can I ask what brand of boots you wearing.
Thank! These are an old pair of insulated Kamik boots. Merry Christmas to you as well 🎄
Thanks!
I come for the food!
👍😀🙏 glad you enjoy cooking. ATB
Thanks! I love camping in Wales 👍. I am using the Trangia mini cook set. it’s a great little lightweight set when cooking for one.
Hi
Lovely spot there!
What backpack is that? The arc haul?
Yes it’s the Arc Haul Zip. I’ve had it for a long time now. Really love it 👍. Thanks for watching.
@@hedleythorne 👍😀 Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and New Year’s as well.
Goin Solo - Another favorite video. Can you put the recipe on the website? How do you prepare the pork?
Yes I can put the recipe on the website. The only reason I wasn’t going to include it is because most of those meals or meals that can be cooked at camp. This sandwich can be made at camp, but you really have to cook the pork shoulder at home first low and slow or in a pressure cooker. Really appreciate you watching as always. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season.
I always wanted to know where do you gets your pants from. I’m from the states so do know if can get here or not!
This is like camping and a cooking challenge all in one?
😂👍 As someone who loves to cook, I just always like to cook a nice meal for myself if I’m going on a single night camp. Appreciate you watching.
should have taken the polar ranger just to be safe haha, stunning spot
Cracking little spot there fair play .. You originally from the States or Canada then .. 👍
Love coming to this spot! I am originally from the East Coast of the States 👍😀
@GoingSoloOutdoors Ah OK Great stuff 👌 👍
Bummer about your drone app being offloaded. Otherwise nice video. Thanks and happy Christmas. I think that's what they say in the UK , rather than Merry Christmas here in the US.
Another great watch as always 👌🏼
Shame about the drone as the conditions were very good for it but there’s always next time 🤙🏼
The conditions were absolutely incredible for flying the drone 😩.
Maybe you need to add "check app is still installed/start it up" to your pre-trip-checklist in order to prevent your phone doing that again? hopefully you'll get some similar calm & clear conditions later in the winter somewhere :)
Did you ever get your hands on Tynt Meadow by the way?
@@GoingSoloOutdoors thanks for the reply. Love the videos, always really nicely done. Looking forward to a hot tent video. Merry Christmas 👍
@@alexkodr Merry Christmas 🎄
22:35 - your 8 section metal windscreen
I have something similar, it is 16 sections 9.5" tall, 3.25" wide & weighs 14.5oz - in case you're wondering if there is a longer windscreen that might be useful to shield a larger pot/frying pan.
Durston has been extremely responsive via email. Yes I believe these are YKK aquaguard coil zips 👍
The U.S. Military 100% wool watch cap isn't itchy & it's readily available at most any Military Surplus store or on the internet.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Yes this is the Byron. I have had it for 6 or 7 years now and it’s still going strong 👍. I don’t find it itchy at all.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors Thank you.
@@azclaimjumper Thank you, the British army issued ones we got were awful.
Even without flying the drone the video was awesome bro loved it so much❤🎉
Very kind of you to say but I’m still really disappointed I didn’t get to capture this location with the drone 😩. Next time! Appreciate you watching.

I’d love to know how you would advise solo women on a hike out in the wilderness…especially on personal safety…
It might be a chore but why not list more items in description such as clothing and accessories. People (me) are always curious about all that
I’m always happy to answer any questions but that’s a huge chore and I don’t want people to think I’m trying to sell them something.
He uses top-notch equipment and will respond to questions about his choices.

i think i have sickened myself from going camping, my local shop told me yesterday i need a 400 pound mountain equipment sleeping bag to go winter camping.
Great video, new subscriber. May I ask who is the manufacturer of your down jacket?
Although I really don’t know how it can be described as a 3-Season, or even a 3+Season with all that mesh, looks more like a 2+Season shelter to me in that current configuration..🤷🏻♂️
Who knew you lived so close to me lol, as I also live in the East Midlands area, on the outskirts of Derby specifically.
I mainly just camp out in the Derbyshire Peaks these days, with it only being a 55-85 min drive away.
Cheers
