The reason your propane heater is indoor safe is that it will shut off automatically or won't light up at all when the oxygen level drops below a certain safe threshold. Which is why it gave up on you at 1am after burning continuously for several hours & thus depleting oxygen to an unsafe level inside the closed trailer lacking any ventilation. All for ensuring a safe indoor operation.
Cooking tip: chop all your vegies at home, put them in a ziploc bag and then in the pot, you will be ready to cook and won't forget your pot 😉... and the spices in a baggy all ready to go... Dinner looked really good!
On the biscuits, skillet low heat melt your oil, butter or whatever you use, put a lid on it, when they start to rise turn them and keep an eye on them. Used to be a camp favorite of ours.❤
You should have a sit down with your family and make a list of supplies you should collect before you go Have one for the Polaris. Have an alternative heat source. TEST YOUR HEAT SOURCES AT HOME, not while camping. Top sleeping bags rated for Alaska cold. It's different camping in Alaska, then in the lower 48.
For new equipment like the propane gas heater, you should try it at home to ensure it works before going onto trips. A back up plan is also necessary since you have the whole family and young kids.
what a wonderful place....turquoise colored lake, filled by stream from melting glaciers and ice capped mountains in the backdrop, just amazing and serene place...super vlog...
Loved your video. Really it must have been tough experience for you and your children. How did the children feel about returning back home in that odd hours? Better luck to your family for your future adventures.
Awww bummer! A few things we’ve learned camping for years: make a master camping list, we broke it up in sections such as clothing, tire station, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and menu/foods. I always printed the list and crossed things off. Also always test new gear or equipment or items before going several times. We bought a new camp stove on the way to camping and it was missing a part and it didn’t work k. Each trip is a learning experience! Another great vid o!
Fantastic video. Interesting to see how camping in the cold is like. Love that your children are so helpful and having such unique outdoor experiences that other kids do not get the luxury of having.
Extra belt, extra tire, gas, oil, first aid kit, air pump, tow rope. Do you have a wench on the front? It's a must in ultra terrain riding. Let someone know where you will be and approx. What time you will be back.
best wishes from India...nice vlog, in spite of heater failure in the middle of the night, so much positive energy and smiles all around which is so heartening and above all you guys have such great kids, all in all super vlog, a big thumbs up for your effort Johnathan and Kelly...best wishes and love once again
Cooking tip. The liquid from beans is full of protein, so cook it with your dishes. The liquid from chickpeas can be used instead of eggs in cake and dessert. e.g. pancakes.
Jonathan, I want to dive into heating for your cargo trailer. My personal research... Diesel Heater - I did not have much luck with these. They would quick working, error codes, and just a lot of problems. Wood Burning stove - Absolutely awesome. You have the Cubic Mini and Dwarf. Problem with these are: Space. Wood gathering. A place for the wood and the stack on top Propane Heaters - Dickinson Marine heater is Awesome! With the P9000 and P12000. Direct inlet for propane. The one thing about these are wire attachment for the 12V battery operated fan. Mini Split - Both heat and cold. These units don't work well and will quit working in cold temps (bad idea for Alaska). Blue Flame Heaters - I personally think this would work well for your cargo trailer. They operate on a direct propane line. It is optional to use (connect) a fan, but completely unnecessary! There are Mr. Heaters and Dyno Glow. I personally like the Dyno Glow over the Mr. Heater. I hope you find this information helpful.
Walker Farm Fam just put a brand new heater identical to yours in their "Skoolie" and thankfully the carbon mioxide detector went off during the night. Please be careful!! You have such an amazing family!!
Amazing video, learned so much about water holy crap. Keep it up mom!!!! Can i drink that water?? looks delicious. Love forest energy RAGEEEEEE!! Forest is the real deal he can fix anything.
Wow, hope got a good rest when you all arrived home. I hope the store let's you know what's wrong with the heater. Will backup fan D size batteries help in any way if the pilot light doesn't engage? I am not big techy but I like to learn in case I ever need to know. Well, it was quite and adventure! Hope you get go again soon when heater is working well. Best the bags packed family!
Loved this video guys! Alaska is well and truly on my bucket list. But gosh it seems expensive - even more so than Aus where I am ( I love how you tell us the cost of things in all your vids!) Big love from Australia !
Problems are worries always arises with trips......and plus a little cold in a warm sleeping bad is not going to hurt anyone....Id rather stick to being at home......
Love how Forest decided to take the gopro and showed us what's inside the box ❤a personal cameraman haha! So nice seeing the kids pick up a book here and there ❤! So sorry to see your trip was cut short, but everyone stayed in good spirits and I am glad y'all made the decision to leave knowing its getting colder as the night goes on!
I’ve been rewatching alot of the old videos 😍I think Granite is going to be the future Mark Weins ,Anthony Bourdain,Sonny befrs, Mike Chen Even more adventurous than Andrew Zimmern. I’ll be following you’re family
OH MY GOSHHHHH, at 22:59 you passed over your "catch all" table and I literally GASPED! I read 'When You Reach Me' in 2010 (I'm an adult) and I have been trying to remember the title for yearssss now! Excellent book! Thanks for reading it and solving a mystery! ❤
@@BagsPackedFamily contact Bluetti, Jackery or Anker. Send them an email and let them know u can do a review for power station n solar panels maybe they will send u a set to do the reviews. Love all ur videos Oh and can we ask why ur wife is vegan
That heater isn't safe to use indoors even though it says it is. I have the same heater I use for emergencies. You need to have a window cracked because of the fumes. It's not really recommended to sleep with it running. You need a power station with a heater you can plug into it. It's so much safer.
For people living overseas, especially in Asia, they may be wondering what chili this is. Chili for them is the vegetable or the condiment, not a whole dish.I know I was before moving to the the USA.
@bagspackedfamily is there a difference between Alaska and the lower 48 if what and where are you between the two just curious it’s so beautiful there Alaska is on my bucket list
have you thought about a personal locater beacon for the emergency pack? if you are out there doing it Please consider this for your family.... accidents happen
Jonathan, I know it was mentioned in the comments but writing a list with categories would help. You could have either Cedar or Granite type it up to practice their spelling and typing skills.
Lanterns, stock up on different size batteries from Costco, invest in really warm sleeping bags, blankets, carbon monoxide detector and a carpet for trailer that rolls up. Be safe.

best to keep co2 sensor with you and windows opened even if it's cold out.
We love our Buddy Heaters, but we always take a Carbon Dioxide monitor with us!
Will do!
We will from now on.
Wow! Thanks for your insight. You’re correct about the low oxygen shut off. We’re now looking into ways to increase our fresh air intake.
Forest's speech has improve alot now that both of you are home with him all the time.

You should think about indoor/outdoor carpet for inside the trailer.

For the amount of camping you plan on doing, you should look into a freeze dryer
That’s a good idea!
You may consider getting a generator and having an electric heater in the trailer...safer...

It didn't occur to you that a propane powered heater needs ventilation? So lucky this turned out well.
Extra gas, food ,water ,blankets ,extra protein, spare tire , things warm to wear. That's what you need. Bear spray ,flash lights .
Thanks for the tips!
Hi family ❤❤❤❤❤
8:35 wow Cedar was driving
She loves it!
You could fix it to where you could hang a canvas curtain across the trailer to shorten the heated space. Do any of your kids want to be chefs?
I’m hoping for travel vloggers. :-)
You need power station to power all ur needs. Get a few solar panels also to put on top of the trailer😊
You are right!

Pop more biscuit containers 🫙 to scare the bears/bigfoot away😂
Ha! Yes!

Take a generator and get an electric heater. Not fail because you learned a lot.
have you thought about a personal locater beacon for the emergency pack? if you are out there doing it Please consider this for your family.... accidents happen
We’re looking at the Garmin inReach.
Burrrrr. I had to pull the covers up a little higher. I can’t believe the Buddy heater stopped working wonder what happened.
After reading all the comments, I definitely think is always due to low oxygen. 😬
Nice
Bigfoot made the teepees..😁
come and live in Great Britain and you know what cold weather is like?😂
?!?! they're in Alaska which I assume might be colder u doofus
Have you thought about a diesel heater like the van lifers use?
We are definitely looking into all the heating options.
Can you drink that water like you can with some glacier water?
We loved drinking the glacier water at the Matanuska Glacier. I’d probably filter the lake water since it’s much farther from the source.
Jonathan, I know it was mentioned in the comments but writing a list with categories would help. You could have either Cedar or Granite type it up to practice their spelling and typing skills.
