Animals live in the moment! I think this is a perfect example of that. Someone with a calm yet confident and knowledgeable energy takes the leash and you see a different dog on the end of the leash. Visualize what you want your session to look like. It is far more likely go to the way you visualize it. If you keep thinking negative thoughts and visualize the behavioral issues continuing, then that visualization is far more likely to come to fruition. Thanks for another great video Tom! I tell everyone who comes to me for help with their dog to start watching Tom Davis on TH-cam! I am not on facebook, Instagram or any other social media, but if I was, I would follow you Tom! 90% of dogs anxiety travels down the lead from the hand of the one holding the lead. I've had so many 'aggressive' dogs turn out to be putty, once the owner hands over the lead. If they don't have a good alpha to trust, they will step into the role that they really don't want, and tend to overreact in their undesired situation. Too many people treating their dogs like peers, without realizing the potential consequences. Great job showing this great doggo calm, cool leadership. Now if we could just get people to train like this for raising children!.
He uses neutral and submissive behaviour to help her. It's not needing an alpha, it's needing structure and security. You get that through consistency, clear communication but also respecting and understanding the dogs boundaries.
love love love your videos! your leash training videos and advise have helped me control my rescue pitbull. do you have any advise on correcting “aggression” when people approach our home? mostly they come through the sliding door which he can see through. and has a deeper more forceful bark than any other time and comes off as protective. but once they’re inside he is fine! but again, once they go to leave, he goes after them.
@@djr7144 That is not necessarily true. You can't breed aggression into a dog. Some dogs will be more prone to aggression due to treatment, training, and communications, however, no breed is more aggressive than another.

Trainers often talk about having a correct relationship with the dog. But what exactly are the things that should be done in the day to day life that sets the correct tone for a relationship? I mean, we spend maybe 15 minutes collectively a day one-on-one time of conscious very short training sessions with an 8 week old puppy. How do we spend the other 23:45 to set up on proper structure, discipline etc to create that relationship of mutual respect? Any chance on you doing a "relationship building " video? Yeah good question, I mean, what's some other things besides the walking , being conscious of resource giving ( I love hand feeding my puppers) and ball playing , the obvious what's some " not so obvious" Things that can build healthy relationship that non trainers and only your normal pet owners need to build upon

Yes, you are right, there is no bad dogs. Like there are no bad kids. The owners and the parents make them behave bad. Too much attention and love, too little of it. He became reactive after he was attacked from two dogs. Now we are working on him allowing people being able to get up close to him and meeting some doggie friends that are trained and won't react to him. Does Tom have any video's regarding reactive dogs to sounds while inside your house? My dog doesn't care about cars, or random sounds while outside...but any sound while inside makes our dog instantly freak out. They also do this for anyone who knocks, or comes over, I'm basically the only person who can enter without them freaking out. (Which is kinda good for security but they let me know when my neighbors have someone over, and we don't need to be their security lol) Just looking for tips that we might be missing, I generally just call my dog and have her lie down but it has only reduced the freak out, there's still always one or two screaming barks before I can get her to come to me, and there's never anyone there...it's just a loud car, or my neighbors.
Tom I have a Basset/Dachsund mix and he is so unruly. He won't stop barking and he does alligator rolls with a leash on. He don't come when called. Can you please help me. I live in Arizona.
My dog does similar - any advice. We take him to the vet (muzzled) and he goes in and he’s lovely with them - when they bring him out and pass leash to us he attacks the vet - every time. What should the vet do? She just panics and moves away - I feel like she should correct him or should I
Any advice for reactivity in my dog developing from dogs in the neighborhood who fence charge at level 100 ready to fight? My dog was a stray. I've had her about 9 months ago. Until a few months ago she would just walk by barking dogs or freeze up. I would say nothing and keep walking to encourage her non-reactivity. But now, if a dog "attacks" the fence, she'll go at them in return. She seems to know the difference between dogs who are all talk even if they charge, but with the aggro dogs I'm having trouble not resorting to dragging her away. Sometimes its a whole street of this and it can be startling when these dogs seem to come out of nowhere. We're practicing "let's go" as a command to re-focus and keep moving and its helping about 50%, but not cutting it. Any advice?!
Tom, Huge fan, as I've previously commented in the past. I'm wondering if you'd ever consider doing some sort of your own version of a TED talk if that makes sense. A person can buy a ticket, and just have a cool time explaining some things on stage. With the virus I understand that may not be possible right now, but I've always thought this would be really cool.
Hi Tom, our BS (Belgian Shepherd) is doing great with a simple.harness, which I read is not recommended. Yesterday a potential trainer tried to use a slip chain with adverse results. According to the trainer the dog is too fixated on us. Should we worry aabout future reactivity? Right now it seems the opposite, too friendly to strangers.
Do you know what breed this dog is and how old? I have an 11 month old girl that looks exactly like that but a bit bigger overall and longer legs, about 65-70 pounds of fluff and muscle. Thank you!
My Aussi is super reactive to strangers, how do I get him to not be reactive? I use prong and remote collars. You know what you are doing, people don’t
Hi Tom, I have a 7 month old Pitbull puppy and she has a problem with my other dog who is 4 years old and she gets a little aggressive with him sometimes and we have been trying to work with her. She only seems to be aggressive in the house, outside she is very well behaved with him. Any suggestions?
You need to let your older dog make corrections to the younger dog. This is normal behavior and MUST be enforced by your older dog AND YOU, that is her way of communicating that “aggression” is unacceptable. You must remember that dogs are pack animals, and pack animals live by strict pack rules, your older dog needs to let your puppy know his boundaries. Sometimes this looks like “aggression” but it actually the opposite- the older dog needs to communicate rules just like in a wolf pack.... there are very strict rules and laws that each pack member must follow in order to remain apart of the pack. The leader of the pack MUST be YOU, YOU provide the structure/discipline /‘d that means you create the rules and laws of what is acceptable and what is not. Example- Puppy wants to “play” initiates playtime and starts to bite too hard or play too rough with said older dog... older dog growls and snarls(she/he is talking to your puppy) at this point most owners split them apart and get mad at either dog that is showing “aggression”- as backwards as this sounds, you must let your older dog correct said puppy and if your other dog is not a pitty, I would start now. Go google or TH-cam “how adult dogs correct puppies”. This is natural behavior but if you let the opposite go on for too long, you will find yourself in a situation where the roles have reversed and your dominant puppy will intuitively think that she can bully your older dog and it will create friction in the household. In order for all of this to work, you have to step back, watch closely but allow your older dog to stand his/her ground. Yes... sometimes that will result in what I like to call a “warning shot” where your dog will show teeth, and snap hard to your younger dog, which could result in a tiny injury but your puppy will then start to understand her place in the pack. That is okay and order must and I mean MUST be initiated. Just remember, dogs can’t talk but they do communicate- it’s your job to try to decipher what they are trying to say.
Thank you for the wonderful content. Beautiful explanation, do you network with other trainers? I'm really striking out on dog trainers in South Florida that aren't Petco or PetSmart trained or have legit killed a dog and have an open lawsuit.

Most of time it’s not the dog, it’s our leadership/relationship w them that makes them successful or unsuccessful
True, but some dog breeds are more naturally aggressive than others.
It can also just be the handlers anxiety/stress. In this case the lady needs to work on her own issues before introducing a dog into her world.

Like I said you're obviously the leader of the pack...good job tom🙌🐕
Thanks Kelsey!
Having an earring problem, 8 month old mix breed. East her food without any chewing. Suggestions?
*Eating problem?
Another great video!
Tom,
Huge fan, as I've previously commented in the past. I'm wondering if you'd ever consider doing some sort of your own version of a TED talk if that makes sense. A person can buy a ticket, and just have a cool time explaining some things on stage. With the virus I understand that may not be possible right now, but I've always thought this would be really cool.
Thanks Sammy! Not yet
See how it goes. I mean, he sounds like a great boi!
Mad props man that's so cool 😎 the dog guru I've always wanted to your job and lifestyle 💪
Thanks Manny!
@@tomdavisofficial your welcome 😊
Do you know what breed this dog is and how old? I have an 11 month old girl that looks exactly like that but a bit bigger overall and longer legs, about 65-70 pounds of fluff and muscle. Thank you!
My Aussi is super reactive to strangers, how do I get him to not be reactive? I use prong and remote collars. You know what you are doing, people don’t
Hire a trainer.
Almost got me with the stuffed doggo on the bed pad.noticed it never moved.
Well done!
Thanks so much!!
Your welcome ty for helping all the dogs
my dog is great on the prong collar, but once its off she’s back to pulling again. how do i fix that?
Prong collars are barbaric and don't really work. You should use positive reinforcement. Try watching "It's me or the dog" with Victoria Stilwell
Very helpful 😊
Awesome 👏

If I want to adopt a dog to feel safer because I live alone and may be moving to a new home, what would you suggest?
I adopted a girl Blue Nose Pitbull. when when we got her I noticed she was afraid she was about 6 months when we adopted her from the shelter, always we've noticed her tail is usually tucked we give her so much love and she won't have it tucked anymore but when we try to train her she won't listen we try to train her with yummy treats but won't give in she just wont listen. any way you could give advice or help out ???
Good work and proper diagnosis however I would have rested the dog prior to the obedience training due to the stress level the dog was displaying... notice:. Long tongue, heavy breathing and if there was a black rubber mat you would most likely notice damp paw prints.. just an observation..once again NICE WORK 👌
Awesome 😍
