I know that this video has been out for a while but I’m just now watching it. I’m a big believer in the aesthetics of any project in general. If I’ve got the extra material, I’ll go all out. If not, I put it off until I get more scraps or whichever material it may be and then I finish things up. It’s cost effective and motivating. Especially on not so good of work days in the shop. People that know people with their own businesses, especially woodworking, always seem to assume that everyday is a great day in the shop. Mostly your DIYer’s that hardly have time to get in the shop and this is obviously a hobby to them and hobby only. Not saying anything negative by mentioning this, whatsoever. I want to make that very clear. It’s just something lots of folks don’t think about to process it. Woodworking has been a hobby of mine since freshman year shop class. It took me years and years of little by little, getting myself and my budget, to the point of where I could merge into starting my own woodworking business. I’m still only part timing this business because of the extremely high level of economic uncertainties. Back to aesthetics, the number one thing I love about going the “extra mile” and putting finishing touches on things is when I referenced the “not so good” of days in the shop, even me being a part timer, when I walk into my shop, I see those finishing touches and no matter what kind of day it is,, it’s a motivational factor that’s par one. Of course, this is coming from the guy who makes his bed, every single morning(feasibly speaking) and I get questions about why that is that I always have done so. It’s simple folks, after making my bed in the mornings, it doesn’t matter if I end up having a really discouraging day or an awesome day because no matter how unproductive I end up being, when I go to bed, I walk into my room to a freshly clean bed that’s made and it just makes me feel like I’ve done something today. May sound silly but it’s a fact that we, as human beings, release the “good vibes” hormone in our brains, when we see anything thing that we’ve done that makes us feel the slightest touch of completion, even something as simple as the “bed making” ritual I live by. I’ve been a big fan of your videos Chris and I’m a big family guy myself of 5 girls and a boy so the fact that you throw in a mix of your daily living combined with your videos, means a lot and says a lot about you and the kind of person you are. I usually never hardly have the time to make comments in general on these types of videos, it’s mostly and like that I throw out there and of course, I subscribe to someone’s channel that I’m not already subscribed to. Lastly, I want to apologize for the novel of a comment I’ve left here. Promise that I don’t make this a habit lol. Best of luck on continued success to you and yours.
Your daughter is just way too cute, thank you for including the interactions with her in your videos, it's a very nice touch to them whenever she's involved, and also how much you adore her...is truly beautiful. Cheers from Aus!!!!
If you're a maker and this is your business, the extra little touches show your clients that you care and they will appreciate the work you did to finish your shop and they will be more than happy to recommend you to other people.
New subscriber here, so I just got a 30x40 shop and was looking into French cleats. Then I found one of your videos, and I've been binge-watching for probably 4 or 5 hours now. I just wanted to say I'm happy to subscribe and I look forward to seeing future videos! I think you'll inspire me a lot in what I do with my new shop.
Those finishing touches are perfect. I couldn’t quite put my finger on what’s been bugging me about my own space, and I think this could be a great solution. LOVE the framing around the window - very applicable and relative to my shop situation. Thanks Chris. Also - baby girl is doing awesome and is growing into her own personality so beautifully. You and Mrs Chris are doing such a great job raising that beautiful child - keep up the good work!
You are so sweet Stephanie thank you so much we really appreciate those kind words. She is doing wonderful and seems to be coming into her own each and every day. Thank you so much for again reaching out and being so nice
Hello Chris! I definitely agree with you in that aesthetic does matter if for no other reason than a sense of pride and dedication to the work at hand. I have to say it is one of the best looking work shops I've seen. Also I enjoy the time spent with your kids when they come into the shop. spending time with them is important especially when they get a lil older and want to learn the trade. Keep up the good job.
Hi Chris As a parent myself, I love the interaction you have with your kids, 👍 And as always, great job on the French cleats will be doing similar in my workshop. 👍👍👍❤️
Love your shop. There is no such thing as going to far so long as you enjoy walking into the shop and it inspires you to continue making dust. You inspire me to organize and clean my small shop. I’m in Oviedo FL about 2 hours from you hopefully this pandemic 😷 gets under control soon and allows us to meet. My wife and I love the kids in the shop and how you make them a priority!! Keep it up 👍
Trimming out all of your outlets and covering the access holes and trimming the window absolutely creates a much more appealing and attractive workplace. great job!
You can actually take it one step further and see how you care for your family in all the "little" things you do with and for your kids. It's inspirational!
I learned a couple of things watching you: the use of CA glue /accelerator and regular white glue together on a join, and using a cut-off triangle to ensure an equal angle for the second cut. Neat - thanks.
new subscriber going back through some of your older vids love the fan mounts , we are planning on making a crafting shop (we have a stain glass and jewelry store on etsy) and have been working out of an old house trailer for several years, think the French cleat system will help at least on a lot of the storage of supplies ( pegboard too) children the most valuable thing in the world love the way you work with your daughter just watched the explanation of her autism!!! now go have some Fun with her:)
The fans, The hanger bolts and cleat system is a have to have in my shop and they are going up soon as I can get them. Great video of course. I'm looking forward to the next one. Have a great one and keep doing what you do for us all......
Love the extra touches. As I build my new shop I am taking notes. Just one caution on you cord management system. Remember when you wind up an electrical cord it because a coil that creates heat and resistance. So make sure when you have those fans running check those cords for excessive heat. Down here in Florida it don't take much.
Thinking about how to improve the hanging cord, Chris. I too have deal with this and love the idea for the fans. I wonder if getting a simple power strip line up (one that just has an outlet every foot or so) just below or above your highest cleat gives you the ability to truly move your fans, heater, maybe a spotlight or what have you fully along that wall and never have a dangled cord. And you could put a little wireless remote adapter on it so you can control your fans up there with a remote instead of the string (which also may get in the way).
awesome! you know you can adjust the saw blade to just enough to cut through the plywood for those cutouts... just makes it easy to eyeball it for trimming
Great ideals. I just lost my 40x60 shop in hurricane delta and getting bids to rebuild. I will incorporate some if not all of what you been showing on French cleats. Thx for sharing
Great job like always. Putting those frames around the outlets and windows make it looks finished. Your wood shop is your second home. You have to make it look good.
Chris, really have to agree that making the frames for the outlets and the window, along with the panel covers is a worthwhile investment of time. It finishes the look quite nicely. Especially using the CA glue, it makes the time investment as small as it can be, not waiting for regular glue to dry. Bravo!
Small touches ABSOLUTELY make a difference! If I want to be in the space and enjoy seeing what is around me, I feel more free to be creative and actually use the space more often.
Glad you agree Tony. Hope you’re doing well my friend I actually meant to reach out to you to tell you you inspired me to make some French rolling pins. You know I’ve worked in a commercial bakery almost my whole life so it’s some thing that’s on my bucket list
@@AGlimpseInside Doing well! Starting to come into the holiday rush, so that's always an exciting and stressful time. That's fantastic! Fan of the small touches. Great idea with the windowframe, will definitely add that to my windows/ply-wall. Right now I'm trying to fint everything into my tiny workspace and then I will see where I can add some elegance afterwards.
Just finished mounting 2 New Air fans in my basement shop in the ATL! Mostly just for circulation, but it sure will be nice on these fall days to open the windows and get some fresh air blowing around! Awesome build to put them on cleats! I never consider doubling up plywood for more beef, for some reason. I’ll file that away for later! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! OPHS Class of ‘87! Go Raiders!

I like the finishing touches! I don’t know how many amps those fans draw but be careful running them with the cords coiled. Heat can build up and cause the cords to melt resulting in a fire and/or electrical short especially if they are wound tightly.
Great job, great ideas, learned a lot. Watched several cleat sites but still don’t know what optimal cleat spacing should be and also right thickness and width of the wall mounted cleats. Cute little red head. Got a couple, older now.

My garage already has sheet rock on the walls, so if I framed out the outlets and such it would be a downgrade. I often wish I had bare studs out there because I could more easily tie into the garage structure, but for the pegboard and French cleats I _do_ have, it's plenty sturdy. I'm not hanging any drill presses on the wall (yet). In general I prefer an unfinished aesthetic for shop furniture so I don't worry much about finishes unless it's something I touch. That might change if I start making things out of better material than cheap pine.
Yeah luckily I bought most of it before Covid. However my plywood dealer hasn’t raise the prices too much. In my estimation I think it’s really dimensional lumber that’s taking the spike in price

That is awesome! And so, creative. Got to ask, my friend...😉 just how many times can Chris say, "as well." Haha. Just teasin' ya. Great job, both as a maker AND a dad. Have a good one!
That’s too funny. I know one video years ago I said if you will about 11 times. Someone said it would be a good drinking game LOL
Holy CNC that thing is huge
Yes it is I mean it’s not that big LOL

My garage already has sheet rock on the walls, so if I framed out the outlets and such it would be a downgrade. I often wish I had bare studs out there because I could more easily tie into the garage structure, but for the pegboard and French cleats I _do_ have, it's plenty sturdy. I'm not hanging any drill presses on the wall (yet). In general I prefer an unfinished aesthetic for shop furniture so I don't worry much about finishes unless it's something I touch. That might change if I start making things out of better material than cheap pine.
Cool project!! Keep up the great projects!!
Wow with the crazy cost of wood now, those walls are expensive! Lived in Orlando many years gotta have fans. Great video bro!
Yeah luckily I bought most of it before Covid. However my plywood dealer hasn’t raise the prices too much. In my estimation I think it’s really dimensional lumber that’s taking the spike in price
Nice Easter egg with the cnc 😂 I was hoping that’s what was in the big box
Another Excellent Video
