I love that you stopped what you were doing to make time for your daughter and include her. That was awesome and made her feel good. You got a thumbs up just for that.
Hey Chris, I really enjoy your channel and videos. Not only do they provide great ideas and inspiration, but you have such awesome energy and infectious positivity. I'm also a family man working full time and getting my garage shop set up. Thank you for giving us all A GLIMPSE INSIDE!
@@AGlimpseInsidehey man GREAT VIDEO! I have been binging all of the French cleat content. It might just be me, but from 9:44 on, your video doesn’t have sound.
Chris I love what you do, and certainly jealous of your shop. I’m 64 years old (retired) and I’m in process of building my workshop. Current building is 40’x60’x16’ , in which I am building a 18x30 shop area. I keep coming to your videos for inspiration and guidance. I am an absolute beginner and have a long time to go before I tackle something high end. But with your great content I hope to learn from you while doing the buildout of the shop itself. Thank you for what you do!
After recently starting to add french cleats to my work space, I am almost addicted to your videos- and really enjoy watching the interaction with your children. Kudos to you.
She is so darling. I prefer to call you my friend. I have copied your cleat wall from your old shop. I am now building a new storage wall and I like the shelves, so I will use them. It's a bit more complicated as I have block walls, but I like a challenge. You are a inspiration to me and I suspect a lot of people. Stay safe my friend.
I like your videos. I especially appreciate the little nuggets. As a single father with a couple nuggets of my own. Its always a treat to see how you are with them.
I have watched about 700 french cleat videos of yours and just can't get enough. Really enjoying the videos and love the inclusion of your kids! My daughter is only a year old now but I'm hoping she will enjoy hanging out in the shop in the future too. Keep up the great work, Chris!
Chris I was thinking about the kids room using the cleats that could be a game changer on keeping their rooms organized you can put a cleat system add a desk on a cleat at one height when they are little and move it up as they grow. No boundaries with the cleat.
MODULAR! I love modular stuff. Storage that you can reconfigure is always the most versatile, especially if it can be made portable. "Ugh, I really need to clean up that mess...." has been the motivation behind more shop builds than every other sentiment combined. I am a little surprised that you didn't make the side brackets triangles instead of squares. Seems like they might get in the way of shelves below. However, since you did leave them square, your comment about adding a secondary shelf to each unit is certainly true, but you could also add a dowel to the lower corner for tapes, clamps, or even rolls of brown paper. They'd also make nice hanging drying racks for smaller work pieces after painting or staining.
Chris....your shop is an inspiration! And your daughter is a cutie. Thank you for sharing.. please be safe. God bless you and the family. Also, the chocolate chip cookies you guys make are the bomb..
Brilliant project and really simple. I really need to finish my workshop and finish my French cleat wall...... so far I have 1 cleat and really need to put the rest up. I love your kiddies and the way they are always seeing what you're doing, I should try to get my youngest involved with making thinks. Keep up the great video's 👍
Chris you are the best! My goal in life is to help other people, otherwise what am I doing here! Your helping us appreciate your hard work. The details (sanded edges etc) are what separates average from awesome! Thanks!
Chris I love watching your videos, and your name is pretty cool also. After watching your shop build, I emptied my shop, insulated, sheeted, and re-organized. Also, it goes without saying that I added a French Cleat wall. I love that you are a family man. Keep up the great work.
Awesome shelving. Did the same style shelves in my shop. For the side pieces I cut them at 45 degrees. One less square cut but it saved material for me to use on other wall cleats etc...
Added your video to my collection for ideas when I am able to get back to my Carport converted shop. Have been looking for ideas for shelves and these look great. Love seeing the kids in the video. Always take time for them. You have no idea how fast that time goes.
I did the same thing for spacing my French cleats on the wall, except I made hangers for spacing and started from the top down. Several reasons for that. One, the floor in my garage is not level, but the ceiling is. So my highest French cleat is 12" _down_ from the ceiling rather than some inches up from the floor, and everything else was indexed off that. Second, I cut 8' long French cleats to go on the wall; hanging them from above rather than balancing them on spacers below meant I didn't have to worry about a precariously balanced 8 foot long plywood noodle falling off the spacers before I could get the screws in. I used bolts for the bottom part of the spacer-hangers: I could fine adjust the height that way, and also back off the bolts to get the spacers off after the cleat was screwed down.
Chris I just wanted to say I love all your videos. You're actually the reason I started to get back into wood working a little. I started out building a patio table and my next project is a bookshelf. Once again thank you for all your videos. Much love to you and your family God bless.
Came here after watching your shed breakdown vids. Really informative and helpful! Then I clicked on this... after the star wars pun I couldn't help but subscribe! Keep up the great work!
I just made a French cleat wall. I have made holders for various tools. I never thought of making shelves. Guess what? Now I’m going to make a couple of shelves. Why? Because I have a bunch of junk that I just can’t live without. Thanks for this wonderful idea.
Appreciate your insight and explanation on this build. Those little details compound and make a big difference in the end result. Like diamonds aren't too pretty until they're cut and polished. Good combination of efficiency and finish.
Hi Chris, Happy Birthday. I like the way you are using your french cleat walls , I have even made some tool holders inspired by some of yours. Keep the videos rolling.
Recently completed a workshop makeover, including some French Cleat walls. Watched dozens of videos on French Cleat ideas while planning the project, but your comment about "making details matter" ended up being a big inspiration and heavily influenced the effort. Decided to spend a little extra time and money to create a workspace I enjoy and take pride in, even if almost nobody else sees it. Thanks for the tip!
In addition to adding the shelf for smaller item, I think I would add a bar of some kind for possible paper towels or craft paper storage. Out of the way and would be super accessible 👍 love seeing your vids I wish my 7 year old would enjoy being in the shop with me lol keep it up!
Hey Chris, just installed my French Cleat system over this weekend and your channel and videos were the inspiration. I, like you, enjoy a well organized shop. I am having so much fun with it... my family thinks I'm a little nuts. Like you, I work full time and have a family but love messing around in the shop rather than watch TV. I am consistently thinking of new ways to find a way to have my tools at my finger tips. I will message you with my Instagram account so you can see the progress. Thanks for taking time out of your life to share with us your woodworking. I know that making these videos take a lot of time to shoot/edit etc.
Thank you! It just seems to me that diagonal side supports will save material without sacrificing strength and also reduce possible interference below.
Chris, once again an informative and fun video in the continuing series of French Cleats. I have just covered the walls in my new shop with plywood and am about to commence the French Cleat route myself and will be using your videos as inspiration. Big shout out from Down Under.
I lived in my Dad’s shop growing up. It’s the source of some of my best memories. And now, after the passing of both my parents, I’ve moved back and the workshop is mine. I tear up nearly every time I am there. I need to make big changes (a lot has accumulated over 35 years), but I am afraid of losing the bond. Well, it’s a winter project....
As always, I really enjoyed the video! Was just telling my wife that I needed to build some shelves to hold some miscellaneous items, then I see you’ve got a new video...of french cleat shelves just like what I need! Your timing is spot on! 😂. Keep up the good work!!
Chris from watching your videos I now use Starbond glue regularly to assist my glue ups. Thanks for the discount code. You are right, the CA glue is like a tool.
I like this design for shelf units on a French Cleat wall. My shop is smaller so I made 4 of these 18" long. Mine are dual shelves like you suggested at the end and I made the lower shelf 3/4" wider to act as the lower support thus eliminating the need for a back piece (less plywood). So it's the same as yours but different hahaha. Yours inspired mine so thanks!
Your comment of the second shelf could also put a dowel in there for tape, towels, rag, hanger for shop clothing. Great video doing that same in my little 10x16 shop.

Hey...Chris....the sanding took a LOT less time after I changed out my miter saw blade to a 100 tooth and my skillsaw to an 80 tooth. still sanding the sharp edges, but a whole lot less sanding than before.
Great Idea Chris! Thanx. I noticed you struggling with your disc sander moving. Maybe this will help.Try putting it on a board large enough you can stand on then strategically nail some chocks on the board. Walking problem solved.

If you make the shelves upsidedown then the sides will keep the stuff from falling off. A cut curving the supports will make it look better.
