love your videos. i have been having an extreme amount of low light at 25000 iso with purple horizontal lines. cannon cannot answer what the problem is. im hoping its a setting i have done. the same shot with my eosr and the eosr is noisy by usable. the r5c is not usable, resembles an old vhs look. i have examples but could not post in comments. i appreciate any direction. i film weddings and it is becoming very problematic. im desperate for an answer at this point and you seem to be extremely knowable about it. thanks in advance.

This is an excellent idea for a video! Some of these things I just guess what they do. Until you come along and clear everything up.

One more question on this topic if possible. If I listened to your videos correctly, is it better to use gain as opposed to ISO for auto exposure since the increments are finer? thanks Roman

Great question, and I don't know. For no good reason other than maybe tradition or comfort, I never use gain mode. So I just don't know. In theory, it should allow for finder steps as you think so maybe. If you try it, post back and let me know how it turned out.

    Hello!
I've got the ISO/Gain Mode greyed out but cannot figure out why. Anyone got a clue what caused this?

Is you're camera set to S&F motion recording?
Only manual ISO/Gain is available in S&F recording (with or without sound) and the ISO/Gain Mode menu entry will be disabled when that's set since you cannot change the setting.

@@PointsInFocus Exactly the reason I sold my R5 C. No auto exposure in slow motion? R5 does. I ended up Having R5 first, but sold it because of the overheating. This was BEFORE the firmware update that greatly improved it. I purchased an R5C but HATED the unfamiliar Cinema menu. It was a deal breaker with the auto exposure on the slow-mo. I needed the 4K120 to be auto-exposed based on the type of shots that I do. So I sold that for an R6 Mark II as a stop-gap until the R5 Mark II drops. It has been a terribly long wait, but I do believe that is finally coming to an end. Ultimately, if the R5 Mark II fails me - I will sell all of my Canon glass and become a Sony fanboy. My DJI equipment hardly works with Canon, but seems to work with all Sony stuff.

This has been an informative video. It helped me quite a bit. The video on manual focus lenses also helped. Could you do a short video on the necessary bit rates for 8k 60 p raw recording on the r5c. Thanks Roman

Glad you found the video's useful.
My next big project, slated to start early next year, is going to look at color spaces, log curves, bit rates, and basically everything that goes into the image quality versus side aspects of the R5 and R5C. So yes, there will be a video in there somewhere that covers 8k60 bit rates and quality.

Kindly make a video on R5C external speed light settings other functions in photo mode

I've done a couple of videos on using Speedlites with the R5, since the R5C's photo mode runs the same software and has the settings, they also apply to the R5C as well. You can find them in my R5 tips and tricks playlist here: th-cam.com/play/PL_UzIuW-fEk9ZXAxbAnyJGGemsYZMGqf6.html

what is a ettl ii meter is it the flash meter on camera screen @@PointsInFocus

I'll see about circling back around to more flash stuff at some point in the future. But to try an answer your questions as best I can here...
ETTL metering is divided into 2 modes Evaluative, and average. Both break the scene down in to multiple smaller segments. In Evaluative mode, the camera applies some logic (which Canon doesn't disclose or publish) to evaluate what is under each of the metering segment and from there determine how to weight them in the final metering calculation. Part of that includes things like what's in focus, and compensation for extreme back or front lighting.
Evaluative (face priority) does the same, but takes it a step further, using the face detection capabilities to add further weight to those areas in the metering calculation.
On the other hand, average simply averages the metered response form the whole scene. No additional weighting is given to faces, or things that are in focus, or anything else.
As for what the E-TTL II meter is, the setting is controlling how the camera's metering algorithm handles metering when shooting flashes that specifically use the E-TTL II protocol. The "II" is there because there was an earlier version of the protocol (just E-TTL) that older flashes used. And while those flashes will still work on the R5/R5C, the camera won't use the more sophisticated metering with them. I'm not entirely sure what it does with those older flashes, as even the oldest flashes I own (Canon Speedlite 580Ex II) are E-TTL II devices.
