526hp GT350 VS 986hp Ferrari SF90 Stradale

  • Of course the one time I forgot to mount my main camera I go out on track behind a 986 horsepower Ferrari SF90 Stradale. As you would imagine how things would go compared to a 526hp Shelby GT350 Mustang I think I still fared well against a car with almost twice the horsepower.

    That Ferrari got pretty small, once he wanted too.

      It just shows that the amount of horsepower needed to go faster increases exponentially because you would think with that much power he would get smaller even faster than that.

      More fun to drive a lesser car at its limit than a really fast car part throttle all the time. Nice lines, no wrecks. Good track day.
      You could carry more speed through the corners, but you already knew that. Nice driving :)

      That is why I think a "slow" car like a Sprite is the best to drive around town because you can have fun with it but still be driving within legal limits.

      @@ThisWeekWithCars I couldn’t agree more. That has always been the lure of a car that feels so connected to the road. There’s no need for brute horsepower or speed.

    Always happy to see one of these track videos in your mix! I see from the comments that many drivers handle your car best from the back seat 🙄

    very nice drive Steve you kept up quite well with a powerful car. Some of those courners looked tricky and you can see where some drivers got it wrong with the skid marks. Respect to the Ferrari too.👍👍

    Looked like he was just being polite Steve, letting you overtake and lead for a wee while. When he started using overdrive, he was gone.😁👍
    Seemed like you were enjoying yourself though - nice driving.👍 It looks like a fun track, lots of great corners - kinda hard work though. Would be a great drive in a Mini.😂

      Or he was letting his tires warm up. Obviously I can't keep up a car like that but it's fun to see that much power actually used.

    Nice driving. GT350 is very capable on the track, it's very balanced fun to drive car. SF90 on the other level though. The driver in Ferrari was just extra careful.

    The tighter you drive the inside line, the less distance travelled = faster times. Great drive Steve!

    Lol, had to watch & guess... Thought it sounded like a Ford, not sure why?!, certainly had some good, & long, legs. Seemed to accelerate outta the corners well, with RPM to spare (just a guess, really have no idea what's redline.
    Thanx for the ride along, always liked that track, its only 100 miles from here, just on the wrong side of the pond...! LMAO!!

    I don't think the dude in the Ferrari had what it took to drove that car anywhere near its limit. The amount of braking he did for the kink is insane, he didn't need to slow down that much.

    • @ThisWeekWithCars
      @ThisWeekWithCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know if you saw but he almost lost it the first lap in the kink so he was probably being careful there after that. A BMW was totalled there the day before.

    I'm sorry but I hate the lines you're taking. Why hug the inside all the time - use the whole track! Use the far outside on approaching a corner. None of this made sense to me. And though I don't know what a GT350 is, it seems to have no real power band and no push out of corners. The SF90 driver appeared to be terrified of his car and he may need another mouse to help him drive it. Nothing about this looked like either of you were anywhere near the performance of the cars, but maybe the GT350 doesn't ultimately have that performance to offer. And, to be fair, if it's a cross plane V8, I've never understood how to drive those unless there's about 50% power to spare. They're usually big, sluggish and late in their response.

    • @ThisWeekWithCars
      @ThisWeekWithCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I was running consistent 2:29 to 2:32 lap times and I assure you I am at the limit of the car. This was the third day that week the Ferrari driver was out on track with that car and he was not afraid of his car. You can watch this video for a breakdown of driving one of these at this track: th-cam.com/video/mLdZWDLUN2M/w-d-xo.html

      @@ThisWeekWithCars Those struck me as much nicer lines. I still would like it to have greater precision and dynamic ability. I just don't see the dynamic range at all. It's more than possible that the US side will never set up a car, or design a car, with agility in mind. And that may be why it doesn't look impressive to me.

    • @Derf1313
      @Derf1313 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, Personally I thought those lines were reasonable (prior to knowing what he was driving), BUT perspective of real & 2 dimensional video are VERY different. & Elkhart Lake is a challenging track, or it wouldn't have existed for over 65 years. If I remember correctly (which is less likely every day...) the track record was set in the late 90's by Zenardi +/- 1:40... So, 40 sec's between a mustang & a top flight CART Indy Car (running 1300+/- hp) that was supposed to at160mph, without the wing, to be able to run upside down because of the ground effects...
      But, my perception of a fun day at the track, without getting agricultural, is possibly different than most... Thanx !

      @@ThisWeekWithCars got any video of the fastest laps? The only full lap in this video is around 2:45 and you can see its not near the limits of the car, steering inputs are far too smooth

    • @ThisWeekWithCars
      @ThisWeekWithCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@HondaExige1 your calculations are way off just a quick look at the video on TH-cam one lap starts at 5:25 and ends at 7:58 which is a laptime of 2:33. The inputs are so smooth because I have 25 years of experience on this track.
