*The BEST and WORST Platform Fighters! Calling anything that is similar to Mario Kart, Smash or any other game made by Nintendo a "rip-off" is the most Nintendo fanboy thing ever. It's like calling King of Fighters or Fatal Fury a "Street Fighter rip-off" because it's a fighting game. It's like calling Persona or Breath of Fire a "Final Fantasy rip-off" because it's an RPG. It's like calling Saints Row or Watch Dogs a "GTA rip-off" because it's an open-world game.

I believe Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl was actually meant to be a spiritual successor to Nickelodeon's previous fighting game Super Brawl, which started out as a series of flash games that used to be available on their website. Apparently the latest iteration of Super Brawl was a mobile version, which I think is more graphically similar to All-Star Brawl, with the more traditional-looking two-dimensional designs used in the previous Super Brawl games being replaced with three-dimensional models. Edit: As it turns out, according to both the Wikipedia page and fan wiki for the Super Brawl series, All-Star Brawl is in fact part of the Super Brawl series. Weird, considering previous Super Brawl games more more like traditional fighting games.
Another advantage the first Rivals game has over the second is the modding community. I'm sure the second has mods too, but it's easier to make mods for the first because it's in 2D. Of course, it's easier to make 2D models instead of 3D, but it also means you can more easily add in characters like Sonic the Hedgehog, Spamton... The Noise? And... Annoying Orange?? Huh???
IT'S SO RIDICULOUS HOW NO BODY MENTIONED KNUG FU PANDA SMASH ALL THESE DAY AND SEEING SOMEONE JUST PUT IT IN THE THUMBNAIL MAKES ME GLAD IT'S THE MOST NON TAIKED GAME AND NOW NOT ANYMORE
You do know Smash gave birth to a new genre of games and these games follow that genre, right? Nintendo is all about setting trends like kart racers, party games and platform fighters. No ones ripping-off no one here. Just following trends. I recommend changing the title to "The BEST and WORST Non-Smash Platform Fighters!" because calling them "rip-offs" just radiates toxic Nintendo fanboy mojo. If that's what it takes, Nintendo should've sued all the companies who made platformers, kart racers, platform fighters, Metroidvanias, etc. Of course they'll be seen as the Nazis of gaming then.
Also some of those games you mentioned play more like Power Stone. But of course people have no idea what Power Stone is unless they played an arcade machine or own a Dreamcast or PSP. Thankfully that will all be over once Capcom Fighting Collection 2 comes out.
Hot take: I actually like Cartoon Network punch time explosion for what it is. It was one of my favorite games as a kid. Ok, 5:41. You said that PlayStation All-Stars gameplay is almost identical to Smash gameplay. That is simply not true. I hate when people say this. The core concept of having four players fight in an arena with different platforms on it is the same, sure. But as far how attacking and special moves work, they are very different. And the way you get kills is also very different. Beyond having a few base gameplay elements that are the same, the games play VERY differently. This is coming from someone who has played both games extensively. Smash plays better, I wont deny that. But I also won’t deny that I’m more of a PlayStation guy than a Nintendo guy. So I WISH All-Stars played more like Smash. I WISH the gameplay was the same. Then I could have my favorite characters with my favorite gameplay, best of both worlds. But they are not the same. People who say they are the same are just plain wrong. There are some similarities, yes, but they are absolutely not “almost identical.” Sorry for the rant. I only do it because I’m passionate about both games. I mean no offense or hard feelings. But I do feel it necessary to educate people on the gameplay differences between these games, because no one will give All-Stars the time of day if they think it’s a cheap Smash clone. It has potential that was not lived up to, and I desperately want a sequel with proper effort and development time. And as much as I would be ok with that sequel just copying Smash in terms of gameplay, I understand that most people would just play Smash instead then. So All-Stars needs its own gameplay identity, which it has. Don’t rob it of that by saying it’s the same as Smash. EDIT: I may have jumped the gun in this a bit. Like 30 seconds later in the video, you specify that the method of getting kills makes the game play “extremely differently” than Smash. So I apologize for not listening to full segment before commenting. Still, I standby that the core gameplay, even ignore the KO methods, is still very different than Smash.
