  • In the fortieth episode of "Assassin's Creed: The Real History" we take a look at one of the most iconic and world recognized French military and political figures, who would later be known as Napoléon Ier.
    This series will be a way for me to shed light on the real history behind characters, groups, events and locations that are showcased in the Assassin's Creed video game series. Throughout the video I will be comparing real historical moments to those represented in the selected game.
    If you have any characters, groups, events or locations that you'd like me to cover in the future, please be sure to leave it in a comment below.

    Napoleon Bonaparte was a product of his time. He was a military genius and became influential enough to seize power which he did, as would have anyone in his position during those times. He was by no means a perfect person but his contributions to France are immense. No matter how you may feel about him, it cannot be denied that Napoleon was an exceptionally illustrious person, a visionary and a true leader of men.

    The fact of the matter is Napoleon was not the monster or tyrant as depicted by the propaganda of the time and repeated ever after. He instituted the Code Napoleon incorporating the principle of Equality Before The Law, which forms the basis for European law to this day. He implemented the Career Open To All Talents, which meant you could rise to high office in Army or State, regardless of birth. He poured money into universities and education, the list goes on...quite apart from being the greatest captain of his age fighting a coalition of, for the most part, absolute monarchies and backward feudal states like Russia, for example, who still had a system of medieval serfdom, for God's sake.

    • @dogestranding5047
      @dogestranding5047 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      thomas brady The rest of Europe was basically still under the feudal system. They were even trying to get in the way of the French Revolution and suppressed many revolutions after Napoleon lost. The other European monarchs really gave him a convenient reason to invade.

      Brian 1815 I agree for the most part except when it comes to education. He wanted the elite to recieve a great education and barely funded smaller schools, having their educations be based on religion.

      He doesn't reintroduce the slavery but maintains it because the others powers like British, Russia, austria didn't see well an abolition. He did it to make peace with the Great Britain at the Damian peace.

      @thomas brady He was elected emperor by the french, he didnt reintriduced slavery but he maintained it in the colonies where it wasnt abolished. then he declared 0 war, all the wars he fought were delacred by the monarchies that despised the revolutionnary values as freedom, equiality and meritocracy. next time before talking read a history book

    I am learning this in French Revolution History. I really love your animation and narration. Napoleon had a similar vedic birth chart like Hitler. Libra Rising. His degree was 25. Hitler's 1 degree. I found him to have a soft heart and a brilliant Army General. But he could not win the hearts of women. He received much inspiration from his Mother which made him very loving at heart to women. Maybe because he was always at war. I also read somewhere online , that Napoleon was the 4th. child and that his mom lost a son and she named him after her lost baby son. Probably it was him reborn in that form. She loved him very much. He was soft at heart and very poetic too. I think he was the last reigning King at that time and he was born to be a great leader. His son could not continue his lineage maybe because this type of reign was finished and not supposed to happen again. Maybe in a next ERA ,his soul will surely resurrect. I really want to know why / how he managed to travel so extensively and did not make it to America. I wish he came here . I never knew he wanted to commit suicide, I read somewhere he had stomach cancer. An astrologer may have to confirm that. I also want to know why he went to Egypty, why he went to Syria and other Middle Eastern countries. I also wonder who the captains of his ships were and navigation must have been very well developed in those days, no wonder he traveled so much !! I adore your mighty power and strenght Napoleon. Your soul is forever alive !!

    • @dogestranding5047
      @dogestranding5047 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Napoléon Yagami There was one quote in particular. The "who else could've done it?!", wanting to rule the world, being brilliant, etc.

    • @the.french.lobstercolinrau2728
      @the.french.lobstercolinrau2728 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bryan Wheelock Right, but Napoleon didn't want to rule the world or else he wouldn't have made alliance with country that made war against him.
      And when Light want to be the best, brillant, etc, it was just for his pride and ego, Napoléon wanted to be brillant at school because he was discredited by french students, and after, he didn't have the choice but to be the best: he was ruling the French Empire ! xD

    I'd like to see your take on Robespierre and Saint-Just, both of whom I think the game maligns by making them out to be stereotypical monsters. The reality was that Robespierre never gloated over Danton's death and he tried, albeit weakly, to moderate the Reign of Terror. Saint-Just is portrayed in the game as a complete psychopath, whereas in reality he saved France militarily and wrote the Constitution of 1793. Both Robespierre and Saint-Just did some bad things, but more through political weakness and fear of counter-revolution than through malice.
