Great video Nigel! Tremendous help to a novice like myself. I crashed earlier because the elevator Servo malfunctioned and I lost control of the heli and crashed, bending the tail boom. I was very lucky that there was no frame or skid damage. The main shaft and Feathering shaft shafts did not appear to be bent, luckily enough. Watching your video helped me a great deal in learning how to replace the tail boom and belt plus bearings. Thanks for taking the time to make the video, I greatly appreciate it, as I'm sure many others do as well. Happy flying my friend. Rooster....
Excellent video with clear step-by-step instructions on the entire process. It also includes several tips to make the repair faster and easier. Thanks.
Absolutely. Thanks. I had the copper washer in the wrong place. I am working on the tail belt as I am texting this message. THANKS. Keep those videos coming.
Just the parts that you dont need to mod. Ones that are a good fit like tail boom, rotor head, tail parts, tail servo push rod. Im building a new v450d03 and these are the parts i dont have yet. Cheers for all the help!
G'day again Mark, sorry for the delay, going off what u said in the above comment i would stick with the genuine parts for the tail boom assbly (i know u probably dont want to but there are a lot of mods to do on the tail if u start mixing to many parts) So the genuine Walkera parts eg.tail supports, belt and gear drives, tail holders, tail strut blocks etc that u need for the tail (Im not sure what u have and dont have since u are building one up) the only thing 'bolt on' is the tail servo i use the(Hitec-HSG5084MG) its half the size compared to the standard one and a lot more responsive, the only thing u have to do is with the sevo wire plug, there is a little step on the plug file or die grinde it off so it fits into your receiver, the standard servos dont have this step on the plug..., at the rear is the tail rotor holder set, this goes staight onto to the walkeras tail rotor shaft (then its just a matter of setting the 0 pitch on the tail). 'rotor holder set' part number from Align is H45034 (depends on what colour u want blue, black, silver) this P/N is for the black one i think, Rear tail blades P/N HQ0613A they are 61mm black ones (68mm blades are a bit to big, they are the black and white ones with 'Align' on them) I have beefed up the boom braces also i added a larger carbon fibre tube over the existing ones and added a boom cross brace Now u said 'rotor head' is that the 'main' rotor assbly? if it is let me know there is a lot of work in that!!! Hope this helps somewhat!! Cheers Nigel
+Jeffrey Tisdale Hi Jeffrey, glad it help you, also be sure not to over tension the belt,it will cause to much friction on the running gear, also make sure its not to lose to otherwise it will jump teeth and you may lose tail authority, good luck!;cheers :)
You are awesome. Thanks for posting this video. I crashed my 450d03 flying in the house due to rain outside. I guess a little patience would have saved my heli. Anyways bent the tail boom so looks like it will be a tedious but easy maintenance.
Thank you Nigel! I have not had any problems yet, but it was nice to see the procedure. Have you observed any stretch of new belt, or have of information regarding service/tension?
Hi Mikael, thanks for the comment, you will get a little stretching over time, the thing to look out for is missing teeth on the belt, as for servicing good visual checks is key before flight, if in doubt just replace the belt. Happy flying:)
Very helpful. I have 2 of these models. Both of them crashed one after the other. The one way bearings seem to loosen as they are flown and the main gears have all been stripped. I bought a replacement for them but I cant get to make the main rotor turn. I likewise replaced the tail tubes and other parts. I think that the belt tension is the culprit as the motor turns but the main rotors does nothing. The belt turns with the hand but not when it is powered. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Thanks
+Ramon Kabigting Hi, check that your motor is spinning in the correct direction, (thats if you disconected it when you were doing repairs, swap any 2 of the 3 wires around, motor should spin in a anticlockwise direction when powered up) Allso check blades/tail should spin freely in a clockwise direction when spinning with your hand/finger and when you spin the main rotor in a anticlockwise direction the one way bearing will work and the motor will turn to, this test is done by hand/finger only good luck!
thanks for your quick reply. the motor turns but there is no spin on the tail rotor. the main gears and auto rotation gear must have been assembled incorrectly. there is a washer that I must have placed in the wrong place in the one way bearing housing. I have an exploded drawing of the V450D03s. I have followed the placement of that washer. I was not as careful as you were when I reinstalled the belt. The tension needs to be adjusted. I have a V450DO1 that is still flying. thankfully I won't crash this one.
+Ramon Kabigting, I hope you dont crash!,sounds like you have it sorted out..one way bearing assembled incorectly? The main gear base goes into the main gear then use the 4 screws to secure it there, then the one way sleeve goes through the main gear base from the top, then the copper washer goes on over the one way bearing sleeve from the bottem, then your lower gear goes on, then align the hoes for the bolt your done!.
Thanks Mark, there is only the front tail block to disassemble to get your boom out, just be carful with the self tapping screw that screws into the side of the block that holds the boom, it strips very easily, As for your other question yes replace the belt while you have it apart, it may only have an hour or so usage but it is old and therefore prone to break or strip teeth off, In saying that I have never had a belt break only strip teeth off. Hope all goes well for you 👍
Thanks Nigel. when I received your reply I was actually sitting here watching your video while working on the 450. I have ordered new belts but living here in the Philippines everything takes awhile to get. Take care and thanks again.
Thanks, Nigel. I just did my first 1inch hover and now I have a clicking sound that seems to be coming from the belt? Belt shaft or bearings?? Ever heard of this?
nice video, just crash my v450d03 this afternoon, tailboom slightly bent so i will have to replace it, I got 1 servo stripped so i will have to replace that too, do you have video on how to put servo on walkera? thanks
reggy poggy Hi, thanks for the comment, I dont have a video on servo change out.if u have the standard servos its quite simple for a cyclic servo remove the ball link to servo arm, remove both servo retaining screws, unplug the faulty servo wire plug from receiver, unthread the wiring from around the frame area.Plug the new servo into reciever first (before fitting it) and bind with the heli (dont move the thottle stick!) this is to so called centre the new servo, place the new servo arm onto the servo at the same angle as the other two cyclic servos on your heli once that done, disconect battery and unplug servo, replace the ball onto the new arm in the same spot as the old one was, then reasemble servo back into the heli, once that done check that your swash is level and the normal general mechanical set up is correct hope this helps
reggy poggy, no I don’t have a video on servo replacement as they can be very difficult to put in, unless you put the genuine WK servos in then they just built straight in
ROOSTER RC yeh they are working well, no trouble at all, they don’t make that hobbywing 60amp ESC anymore only the 50 amp one. The outrunner motor is a bit to powerfull for this bird!!! But I can change throttle curves to suit it.
Nigel, I see you have an Align boom. I have the V450 and have been looking for an alternative boom. Preferably a carbon fiber boom... for flexibility and rigidity. I find the OEM metal boom bends too easily and of course doesn't reset!! Im hoping to find a CF boom that will withstand light crash and not have to replace as often. Are there any that you can recommend, bolt on replacement? If there is modification needed Im prepared for that as well, just not preferred. thanks in advance.
Hi. I'm new to rc heli. I bought my walkera v450d03 in February. Since then i've crashed almost every time i flew it😱 When i finally learned how to properly fly it my cyclic servos died when i was doing a test hover. I replaced it with emax servos. My esc burnt away when i connected a modified battery to it. After lots of search i bought lots of spare parts.i need your help to get this little bird in the air. Here are my upgrades. Align trex 450 dfc head. Tarot 450 swash plate. Trex 450l 45amp esc.gartt 3800kv motor. Emax servos for cyclic. What main shaft must i use to get my servos 90degrees?? Thanks for your reply in advance
Hi , firstly what do you mean modified battery? if you could pm me some pics of your set up that would help me to explain it to you, I have to see were the swash is and the position of the servo arms etc, as for the main shaft, depends if the mods you done now fit the standard v450 shaft correctly, so all the mods you do to the FBL have to work/move evenly together eg. all servos have to be in the exact same position at 0 pitch and the swash has to be in the center of its travel at 0 pitch etc. Anyway PM with some pics and I will explain it to you :) Cheers
robert parkes Hey Robert, thankyou for your comment, that Align belt is a lot better, i do use that belt in my v450d03 since i have higher head speeds & tail speeds it lasts longer than the standard belt, A lot of different align's 450 parts fit this heli!
also, Ive seen on hobby king, matching dimension CF booms, however, Im not sure that they are predrilled to match, or if they are all roughly the same configuration.
+bbasansky Hi, sorry for late reply, the tail boom i have is the standard Walkera boom just with a 'Align' sticker on it,if you want a carbon boom you will have to make one up,just buy a length of carbon tube from your hobby shop and machine out the slots etc , the outside diameter of the tail boom is 12mm, I have made up a couple of sparesI dont know if any other manufactures have a boom that will fit
@@NigelBrinkmann lmao... I have been trying to look up specifications for length and diameter of the tubing with no success LOL. It's a nice sticker though LOL. Have a great day :-)
hello my friend, I have the V450D03 and now when I go to throw it away when I give throtle flipped the tail and the air not only on the ground when I give throtle flipped the tail of you will now be to blame, you will now help me ???
Hi Nigel: what is the procedure for installing the tail servo Hitec HSG-5084MG-in heli Walkera V450D03? I have to make a specific step in controlling for this brand? For cyclic servos you use (Savox SH-0257), the installation is the standard? Thank you.
+MA Codorniu, Hi, the Hitec tail servo is a standard fit no modification needed, (maybe only a little adjustment of the gyro % if you want to) the standard WK settings will be ok for this tail servo, as for the savox cyclic servos frame modification is needed and they run in the opposite direction so cyclic movements will have to be reversed in your tx and gyro is reversed to, KDS n290 servos work to with no reversing there are a couple other ones to but no aftermarket servo will 'just bolt in' they all need frame modificationGood luck
+Nigel Brinkmann ,Hi: You know of someone using the servo Savox SH-1250MG in tail of the V450D03?. It is compatible with the FBL system V450D03 Walkera ? I tried servos brand Tarot, and also Emax HV ES9256, and do not work well with this heli (not supported). My problem is that the tail servo brand Walkera, leading heli factory becomes very hot with the flight and have already burned two; I managed to reduce heating inserting a diode between the controller and the servo (although you can get with a reducing voltage of 5 v.).
+MA Codorniu Hi, I burnt up two WK tail servos to and two cyclics over a period of 30-40 flights. I found that the standard esc was at fault (the built in bec in the esc) if you dont want to replace the esc you can run a external bec which will help a lot,....I haven't used a savox tail servo or know of anyone who has but a lot of people use the 450 align tail servo,I use the Hitec 'HSG-5084MG' its smaller, lighter than the stanard one, the align servo is 'DS525M' this servo is running the oppisite direction so its just a matter of changing it to the other side of the boom, another one for the tail is a 'Goteck GS-9257MG' again fit the oppisite side on tail boom.
