I just had such a difficult conversation with a friend and she needed some uplifting in her heart. This phrase came to kind and it led me right to this song and performance. Thank you, Curtis Mayfield. I hope my friend feels it.

Curtis was a genius. H e was producing and arranging when he was 15 yrs old. He wrote a beautiful piece called "we the people darker than blue". He spoke for a nation of millions.

Very beautiful! Curtis could never get enough credit as far as I'm concerned.
Brains, heart, Soul, conscience, major cool, and talent galore.
Glad that I caught him about a year before his horrible tragedy.
It was just like Curtis to transcend that situation as well!

Curtis is the DON. Music of this quality is still being made though by Terry Callier, (childhood friend of Curtis from Cabrini Green), I saw Terry Callier perform on Monday night in London, (my home town), and he was sublime..a true poet who should be filling stadiums not small clubs. Like someonesaid in the comments it's up to US the public to support and endorse quality and if you like Curtis then without doubt Terry Callier is for you.

allen6924: please forgive me if im incorrect. But I believe that is the great Phil Upchurch on 2nd guitar. He has recorded for countless sessions and has many great albums under his belt. "Cant Sit Down" pt 1 and pt 2 is one of my favorites by Mr Upchurch. If it isnt Mr Upchurch then it has to be the great Craig Mcmullen.

If you haven't cop the CURTIS/LIVE cd, to me it is the best live album I have ever heard, excellent sound quality, energetic crowd, Curtis at his absolute best. It's like going to church everytime I listen to it, so inspirational.

Fans of Beyonce, Lil Wayne, Jons hours on youtube. I am willing to be all the acts just mentioned get more hits than Mayfield and EWF but how many songs of theirs can touch EWFs and Mayfields? The majority of fans that grew up and listened to the legends didnt grow up with the youtube's and net so alot of internet stats are very skewed.
