@@acdgamer7292 they're great aswell! If you've ever tried Rigotti Golds they come from the same cane and those reeds are legendary aswell (I swap between both brands on tenor personally but both are great)
Based on your playing, I think Chad LB was definitely right to invite you to teach a masterclass two weeks ago. You are truly a great player and who I believe to be a sequel to Charlie Parker.
This cat is a riot... so funny, quick witted and has HUMOR built in like my Bro and me. Don't see that in young folks much anymore..... has good chops. I'm subscribing to just see what he does next. Cheers from Texas from one Alto player to the Boston reed dude mavin.
Great review/video! Honesty is a rarity in these types of videos on other channels. It’s appreciated! I’ve been on the alto Vandoren Zz Reeds 2.5 for years but this video has swayed me to order some BSS reeds. ✌️
Clicked this so fast. Good stuff I'm planning to try them next. I think I'll go a half down. I was looking forward to seeing what you'd do at the end with that beanie bit. Did not disappoint lmao
You just get better and better!!- I used to use Vandoren green Javas (which I heard were designed for David Sanborn) and they only lasted for one gig, then, I started using the V16 which lasted a while longer. D’Addario has me hooked on Jazz Select for studio and Reserve for live stuff. They can take a ton of air night after night and have good, solid hearts.
I'm currently using green Javas. V16s were great on a previous mp I owned. Like you, I really them lasting longer than other reeds. The ones I have now are too hard for my current mps. But you got me interested in trying the Jazz Select and Reserve reeds. How do they compare?
I usually play java greens and my friend recommended me these, I'm super excited to try them out but first I have to go through my current pack of reeds lmao.
Ordered some a week ago after seeing close to everyone in the Chad LB Virtual Sax Workshop was playing on them lol! I'm very excited for them to arrive!
I just picked up my Meyer 5 mouthpiece, and a little box of Java Red reeds. I just can't stop playing, now since I have made the switch to jazz after 6 years finally.
Loved that reed! I'm certainly gonna try it later. Is this a MO Vandoren ligature? Cause I was looking for a new ligature and was wondering if that Vandoren is a good one.. thanx!🙏
I absolutely love this collab!! Such an amazing sound, Nathan! Question: when youre playing on 2.5s, are you playing with a looser embouchure to allow more vibration? I find that softer reeds pinch off for me, but you seem to be able to get a great sound on both.
Just ordered my box of BSS reeds. Great video as usual Suggestion: Do a video on how you break in/store/maintain your reeds. Always neat to see what different people do
Cannonball Adderley I believe is the solo. Not sure the tune . Reeds sound good ! I been trying Select Jazz 2 H and so far so good , but I am intrigued by these Boston Baked reeds !
You are an awesome player. Also, you keep your commode looking great and you have spare bathroom tissue handy. I have Boston Sax reeds coming Saturday and am very excited.
I have yet to be converted away from Fibracell. I tried all the Rico/VanDoren cane and Legere synthetic reed models. Are Boston Sax Shop worth it or should I stick with Fibracell? I have that same protect reed case, I"m not a fan, the reeds are not held flat on both sides while they dry and end up curling, rico reed guard which hits both sides works better for me.
Jack is an absolutely outstanding guy, and I'm not surprised at all that his reeds are top-notch. Reed maintenance is definitely my least-favorite thing about the saxophone, so the BSS reeds being so consistent is something I'm very excited about.
Honestly the only cane reeds I like to play on are bss reeds, I usually play ok Firestone black bamboo synthetic reeds, and they’re pretty good but in performance I love the bss reeds
God damn man... That “there will” thing you played was bootyful
Ur bootyful
I don’t know y I’m watching this I play drums, I like both ur channels
@@zionhoffman9469 omg you watch matthias too?!
Imagine living in the worst map in Cold War 🤣🤣🤣
The hype on these reeds is legit!! I've played on a handful of different brands and BSS is king for sure
Have you tried their tenor ones at all? I'm thinking of picking up some but I don't know if they're for me.
@@acdgamer7292 they're great aswell! If you've ever tried Rigotti Golds they come from the same cane and those reeds are legendary aswell (I swap between both brands on tenor personally but both are great)
@@gamer7268 love rigotti golds for my tenor
@@jacobdavis787 the BSS are very similar but have a bit more color to the sound but both reeds are great for that beefy tenor sound 🙏
Based on your playing, I think Chad LB was definitely right to invite you to teach a masterclass two weeks ago. You are truly a great player and who I believe to be a sequel to Charlie Parker.
Whoa I wouldn’t go that far haha but thank you anyway man!
BTW, it’s Alejandro from the masterclass.
@@sharonsantana3320 Hi Sharon
@@Saxologic you're my charlie parker :)
I saw the thumbnail of you burning the java green box, i was hurt :(
Same... 🥲
i never realized that til i took a closer look
Yep BSS is the way to go. One of the few things in life where the hype is 100% real
I miss playing saxophone so much I haven't played in so long but you've rekindled my love for saxophone
They instantly converted me as soon as I tried one too. The consistency is serious. I can immediately tell when I'm playing on a non-Boston reed now.
The solo at 7:11 is the alto solo on Autumn Leaves I'm pretty sure.
Cannonball!
@@squizz714 first track off of somethin else yeah yeah
Yep Cannonball Adderley
@@thomas.j.s actually knowing jazz song names is pointless xD
I swear it was on milestones
Two videos in one week? We are blessed.
The solo is cannonball adderley from autumn leaves on somethin else if I remember correctly
Yep it is
I've been using these reeds for about a year now, they are amazing!
I take reed recommendations with a grain of salt, but I trust you, and you've kind of convinced me. I might pick some up for my tenor.
Dude. Do it. It’s so good.
Yesss do. I have them on alto and tenor and they are great on both
Have no idea why I’m watching someone review reeds, as I’m a brass player. Something about these videos are so captivating.
This cat is a riot... so funny, quick witted and has HUMOR built in like my Bro and me. Don't see that in young folks much anymore..... has good chops. I'm subscribing to just see what he does next. Cheers from Texas from one Alto player to the Boston reed dude mavin.
💯🎷great review! Its freaky how well they play.... you sound great and also that reed case is dope. That is all 🙏🏻
Thank you Mr. Steve!!
Great video!!
What is that profile pic? Is that Nathan?
NO WAY ITS CHARLIE PARKER!!!
How’d Charlie Parker get in here?
Oh. My. God.
Yes I I've been using Boston sax reeds for a mouth or more now and im in love with them!

The ending got me laughing this time man, good stuff and props to you for staying on top of your game this semester!

Same, I’m a bassoon/clarinet player but I love sax, so this is super interesting and stuffs
I was waiting for this video haha everyone converts eventually
Wow, that tone! So rich and beautiful!
I don’t even know how to play the saxophone but I could hear difference in the tones
Welp congratulations Jeff! You've just earned yourself a couple thousand new customers! 😉👍🏼
Nice opening “ahhh ahhhh it’s so good!!”
Those reeds: see the cross of reeds that you made
Also those reeds: _Nervous Sweating_

Those 2.5s sound phenomenal man!
Bro the reeds are just wow I have been playing on a set of reeds for my tenor for like 5 months and still plays great
@Alex Scaggs, are you related to Boz??
Is that stack of toilet paper keeping the window open?
Lol, I didn't even notice that
Dude, your sound is so awesome! I love seeing your progression through the years for sure!
Used java for years and then I switched to Boston Sax Shop Reeds. I’ll never go back. Jack is an awesome owner too.
Solo: Cannonball on Autumn Leaves
Btw BSS converted me too. They are amazing.

*how do they compare against each other
These reed videos are fascinating to me because it goes over problems I have never had as a brass player.
The dislike is from the reed company he got his reeds from before
cannonball on autumn leaves, love that solo
It wasn’t until I found out Devlin plays on these reeds that I decided to get these. So glad you made a video on these😍
The solo at 7:10 is Cannonball Adderley's solo on Autumn Leaves from the Somethin' Else album.
Excellent Review, I'll have to try some Alto Reeds. That reed case looks pretty awesome too.
The logo is the alchemic symbol for brass I believe. Pretty crispy🤙
7:11 the solo is Adderley on Autumn leaves with Miles Davis, really well executed bro!
When I saw the knife, I was ready for comedy!! You’re the best! I hope to meet you and exchange energies with you.
YESSIR!!! Welcome to the BSS gang!
I swear to god this man is getting weirder and weirder as each video goes by 😂
its cuz he moved to florida
he a Florida man now
are you the sax player from tiktok?
esoteric
I just listen to the playing and the subject matter. I don’t think I’ll understand the humor until I can play as well as he does.
He’s funny 😆
1 I love your Playing
2 I love your humor
3 I love your video’s!!
Greetings from Holland!!!
7:10 I hear that cannonball autumn leaves solo 😉
Last time I was this early your sax was still in the shop
Def getting these for Christmas
Your sound on 2.5 is incredible. The 3 is too bright to me but wow
I like how on their website they have reed charts on their product page for reference

First time watching your videos. They are quite educative and informative. You just gained a subscriber from Nigeria. Thank you.
I bought some tenor 3's from BSS a couple days ago. Can't wait to play on them.
I love that thing you played at the beginning
Love how you casually conjured cannonball up!
I use them since May, I bought a box of 5 and I'm still with the 3 first of the box since then !! Massive great reeds !
Good luck with school and be safe !!

Guess the solo: Cannonball on Autumn Leaves. That one of my favorite cannonball solos!
