I started playing sax in 2019 in my middle school band because my teacher wanted me to play a wind instrument (I only played piano at the time). I instantly fell in love with playing saxophone and would practice for atleast 3 hours a day. Now as a freshman I made wind ensemble (our top band) on tenor sax, and made it into the top jazz group as 2nd tenor!
Ive startet playing sax in 2021 with my grandpas 1953 Keilwerth the New King, because i needed a compensation to work and i love it!.. and years ago i learned trumpet, but i gave that up with 12.. now im 26 years old :)
In 2018, I picked up the alto sax while i was a 5th grader(yes i’m young) for the main reason was that I knew the sax was a big part in jazz, and loved jazz at the time(still do). Playing an instrument has gotten me through some tough times, and has made me more ambitious, with me now learning soprano sax. Playing the sax has been one of the most enjoyable things I have ever done in my life.
I started playing the alto saxophone in 1989 when the band director would wheel an assortment of instruments around to each class to recruit new children. After selecting the sax, the director told me I'd never make it blah blah blah...31 yrs still going. Thank you for your inspiration to all of us horn player's ...your content always rocks! King killed the arpeggiated altissimos like WHOA.. no remorse!!
A few years ago, as my son was getting into 6th grade beginners band, he wanted to play the alto saxophone. I did allot of research that kept leading to Jean Paul and their AS-400 student alto saxophone. I decided to buy it. My son played it through the 6th and 7th grade and he loved it. This year, he was told to upgrade to a professional saxophone. I thought of Jean Paul first so I decided to buy the new AS-860 10th Anniversary edition. He says it's much better with smoother, quicker responsiveness, nicer tone quality and he says it just feels better in his hands. He said he'll be more then happy with this saxophone for years to come. This is a great, very beautiful instrument and sounds so amazing. Oh yea, and they have a professional sax technician check and set up every single sax they send out and email your technicians sound check of your instrument. Great customer service as well. Thank you Jean Paul! Very satisfied with this purchase.
in 2019, i picked up my first saxophone. it was a student alto, and i had previous experience with clarinet. it was around that time i stumbled across the mario kart lick and i’ve been an avid watcher ever since. i love your and jesses humor, and that episode on the jean paul made me want to get one myself. even if i don’t win, thanks for inspiring countless guys like me nathan. you really underestimate how much you change people’s lives.
UPDATE: I made it into my district's senior festival!!!! It took time and a whole lot of practice, but I made it in the end! Thanks a bunch for the motivation along the way.
This is my third year playing alto for middle school. At the beginning of the school year I was actually thinking about quitting band, but my band teacher invited me to try playing tenor sax for our jazz band, so I tried and loved it. I tried playing jazz pieces on alto and loved that too. The swing and smooth sound of jazz made me want to never put down my sax(s). I just recently started learning trumpet. I have grown a huge passion for playing sax.
I started playing the acoustic guitar in 2006 because my brother used to play, and I love listening to him, but the sax sound is for me the most emotional and magical sound I've ever heard. We live in Brazil where instruments like the sax are very expensive, and one of my dreams is to learn this beautiful instrument, I hope one day to have my sax and be able to make people feel like I feel when I listen to it.
In 2007 I picked up saxophone for the first time. I chose it because my cousin played saxophone, but once I started taking music more seriously in high school and did pit orchestra gigs I ended up falling in love with bassoon and decided to study classical bassoon at eastman. Joined the navy to help pay for my schooling, and 5 years and 3 deployments later I'm working to get back into jazz sax since I had to sell my instrument before I enlisted. 5 years of not playing music was rough but it's been the biggest blessing to be able to have it as a part of life once again. Performing music has and always will be my greatest passion in life, and making spontaneous art with others is always an amazing opportunity. You guys are killing it with the videos, wish you all the best of luck!
I started in fifth grade on flute. Went to saxes for jazz in sixth grade. Always wanted to be a music teacher, and now I am! Thanks for the behind-the-scenes look at the warehouse!
I started back in 2017 because I was joining middleschool band and sax was just the sickest instrument in my mind at the time. Because I stuck with it I've gotten deep into Jazz and Jazz fusion and I'm so grateful because of it.
I’ve played sax since my eight grade year in 2019, instantly fell in love with its sound and knew that I was going to stick with this for the rest of my life. I made it into wind ensemble 9th grade after only about a year and a half of playing and then transitioned to bari sax. I then started soprano just a couple months ago and I’m trying to look for a better horn than my current YAS-26 alto or my janky school owned soprano lmao. I’ve been a fan for a long while and you’ve taught me so much to know about the saxophone.
In 2017 I picked up my first saxophone. I started to play the sax because I loved rock music and pop and I listened to all the great guitar solos, but the sax ones stood out to me. I learnt the alto, and now, 4 years down the track, I am the lead alto player in my school's top big band, I play bari in the marching band and the senior concert band, and I also occasionally play in the orchestra. This love for music has lead me on to learning the flute, piano, pipe organ and trumpet to a very high level. I also tinker around with the violin, guitar and recorder. I love your chanel and your style of videoing! If you pick this comment, please choose another. I am a very fortunate musician, and Im sure there are hundreds of other musicians that need a new sax way more than me. I just wanted to share my musical journey. Thanks!
KEVINNNNN We miss you in Illinois!! So great to see great doublers making content out there. Crazy it all started for me in 2010 because I wanted to play the saxophone but my hands were too small so I played clarinet instead. Now that I’m old and grown I’m a satisfied Jean-Paul customer who loooves her TS-400, and loves the price too😁
I started the Alto Sax in 5th grade in 2017. At the time, I just wanted to get out of a boring study hall class, but I soon grew to love it. This became my favorite thing to do in the whole world, and probably the only reason I go to school. It gave me something to do at a time where there wasn’t much, and I wanted to be the best I could be at it. I’m a Freshman this year and starting to play in the soprano, and I still feel the same enthusiasm I’ve had all those years ago. I am so thankful that I was able to have a chance to play, and I plan to continue playing throughout college and many years after. Thank you for making these videos! They’re really fun and it’s amazing to know that this passion that I have some fears about can still follow me.
Started playing clarinet in 1969, loved the sound of the Benny Goodman lick Mr Hibbard the visiting music teacher played for us. Continued playing woodwinds through high school and college, jazz band, and pit orchestras, but put them away after I had kids. You are inspiring me to get out my old horns again and my chops in shape. Thanks so much!
I started playing the Trombone in 2016 in my 5th grade band. That year my school had like 20 something trombones so I joined band because my friends were in it. But over time, I realized how much I love music and sound itself. I started playing jazz last year, and ever since I’ve fallen in love with theory, improvisation, and listening to other dudes shred. Thanks for the opportunity you’ve given us all. I’ve been looking for a sax to learn, so I appreciate the opportunity. Love the channel, and keep up the great work man.
I started playing alto saxophone in 2017, but around half-way through the year, I had to quit (I took lessons for it while in school). I quit because I got my tumor removed off of my knee which I had for about 6 years. When I came back from the surgery to class about a week later, I felt very overwhelmed. It seemed as if my class learned an extreme amount, and I didn't feel like I could do it anymore. Ever since then, I've regretted that decision. I now play piano and have been for about 2 months, but I love the sound of a saxophone. I ask my parents if I can get one, and they say no- because I play piano & quit saxophone those man years ago. To me, this saxophone would truly make me very happy. I love music, and having this instrument again will bring me back to those days, when I was young and felt like I could do anything. Just seeing this opportunity to win it made me feel happy. Continue to do what you do, your content is awesome. Overall, I really hope I win the horn, but if I don't, then awesome job to whoever gets it!
I started playing the saxophone in the second semester of my sixth grade year, 2016-2017 school year, because the saxophone was always an instrument that has spoken to me as a beautiful instrument with such a unique and melodic voice and it's been my getaway ever since. I've loved every second playing the saxophone and thanks to the enjoyment and experiences I've been given from you and other saxophonists alike, I have become the state-renowned saxophonists that I am thanks to you guys! Fast forward to now, unfortunately, my alto isn't so well and it doesn't even play anymore so I'm borrowing somebody else's until I can get one of my own, but that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon. Even if All-State and All-State Jazz auditions are but two weeks away, this horn would be a miracle to win and I would absolutely love to be the winner if I am! Thank you for all you do and keep releasing amazing, and more importantly entertaining videos!
In 2011 a 17 year old was going around my village offering trumpet lessons for super cheap. My parents thought I was too busy already but I insisted. From there I was able to get involved with music at my school and eventually picked up other instruments etc. I got lessons with him until he had to move for uni, before starting with a new teacher. I'm now at uni, playing in a quintet and going to jams every week and absolutely loving it
I’ve played the oboe for 3 years now (Since 2019) and am recently beginning to learn the Saxophone in hopes of making it into the jazz band at my high school. I began playing and quickly realized my love for music, especially jazz. I searched, but found that it was quite hard to reach into that world as simply an oboist. After watching your channel for many months now, I feel prepared to begin a great journey with the Saxophone. Right now I’ve just been borrowing my friend’s saxophone using my own beginner mouthpiece, ligature, and of course reeds.
I started playing saxophone in 2020 During Lockdown. I worked through all the jazz graded material and played all 30 charts for each grade, hammered my basic scales, modes, blues and pentatonics etc and loved every second of it. Absolutely love it! The sax was a life line through a really difficult time. Thanks for your videos, they've always given me a smile. Stay Safe!
Honestly, I was gonna enter the contest, but I see so many hopeful others (not like I'd win anyways), but I just wanted to say I love your channel. As I'm sure you're gonna do, just keep being great. Wish you many more wonderful, awesome years of playing! I low-key wanna hear you play the Imperium alto saxophone. Be safe, and be blessed.
Hallo Nathan, I am Tama From Indonesia. I learned my first musical instrument (guitar) when I was in 3rd grade of elementary school, I joined a religious music group at my school, continued until junior high school I still played guitar and sang in the school band. Entering high school, I started studying traditional musical instruments focusing on sape' (a stringed instrument of the Indonesian Dayak tribe) and gambus (a musical instrument typical of the Indonesian coastal tribes). I also learned to play the violin in my final year of high school. I continued to play traditional musical instruments and the violin until 2019. After that in the middle of 2019 I learned the alto saxophone and subscribed to the saxologic youtube channel a few months after I started learning. I joined the wedding band at the end of 2019 and still play the alto saxophone in the band till now, Thanks Nathan, always love your content !
i got my first sax in 2017 it was a second hand one that i got from my teacher. recently i have upgraded to a Yamaha YAS-62 and i keep on playing sax because it is a fun pass time and it is very enjoyable.
I started playing piano in 2019 because I didn't know any other instruments at the time and I wanted to lean music. Now I play sax for my schools jazz band and know a little trumpet.
In 2018, I joined the band and started on clarinet, and moved to saxophone. Someone sent me the Mariokart lick video, and from then on I was set on becoming good enough to do things like that. That along with this awesome TH-cam community of saxophonists (Dave Pollack, Chad Lb, Better Sax, etc.) led me to start pursuing jazz in my earlier moments. Now I am 1st Tenor in my high schools’ top jazz band as a sophomore. Thanks for making these awesome videos; they have helped me and inspired me profoundly.
I started playing alto late in 2016 and switched to Bari in 8th because my teacher puts the big kids on Bari. I always loved band but had a teacher that didn’t see anything in me, and despite not being supported I kept playing. Sophomore year I switched to tenor and fell even more in love and have been playing ever since, I will never give up anything I truly love because of someone discouraging me.
I started playing saxophone in 5th grade now I’m a sophomore in high school. The saxophone imo is the best instrument you could possibly play. I have always loved the saxophone and everyday I practice for more than 2 hours. I’m improved so much that I’m now playing 1st alto in my jazz band and I have 2 solos in the jazz band concert!
I started playing the sax back in 2015 ever since listening to some of the greatest jazz players with my dad I just got hooked up with the rich sound and feel in love with it. Ever since I been using the same alto hoping to upgrade but family been struggling with money so we had to keep my beginning model.
In 2011 I began to play clarinet 'cause I was enchanted by a friend who was playing this beautiful instrument and I immediately felt something inside me telling to start to playing it. Nowadays I'm attending at conservatory studying both clarinet and saxophone (I've a YTS 275) and I'm studying more in general not only classical music but also jazz and contemporary music with both instruments (following the way of multi-instrumentalist playing multi-genre). After ten years I'm deep inside the 'World of Music' I can try to say that music is for me an universal language that allow you to express everything, it can go over every language because words cannot express what music can do, and music can go everywhere always deeper, is a no-end research of yourself and this is awesome; when you play with other musicians you can listening to them express themselves in a way that nobody cannot express with words (sorry for my not very good English talking skills 😅).
Sorry also for my attempt to give a definition of Music. For me there is no definition to express what music is, I only tried to let you understand my thought about my musical world; thought which keep to evolving everyday with experiences I'm living in music. Peace. ✨
I’m 16, started music 6 years ago and I LOVE JAZZ i’m lead sax in my high school jazz band, and i also lead a small combo. i love being able to connect to other people through music and so i started playing because of that
2014 my first day of middle school I chose to do orchestra and by some stroke of destiny my schedule was switched by accident and I got put in band. I didn’t even know what a saxophone was but I remember the cartoon character pizza Steve(from uncle grandpa) playing a “saxophone” so when I was asked what instrument to play by my band director I chose saxophone….and I got rejected and he have me a clarinet. However that didn’t stop me I continued and eventually made the switch and it was the best decision of my life because here I am now 7 years later a senior in high school where my whole life revolves around my saxophone that has given me the chance to meet so many amazing people and experience so many fun experiences. I plan on entering a career where hopefully I will be able to play my saxophone for the rest of my life because it is my happiness.
I actually started playing on a Jean Paul Clarinet about 5 years ago. I started after I heard Benny Goodman's "Sing, Sing, Sing." An old friend of mine (he was really like a grandpa I never had) was listening to him one day and I was hooked instantaneously. I decided to start playing and I have since then become first chair in the symphony band I play in. I love the instrument and I love music.
I started playing sax in 2017 when I first joined band and I instantly loved it, now I am a freshman in high school in wind ensemble and my love for the instrument has only grown since I first picked it up.
I started playing clarinet in 6th grade in 2019 and instantly fell in love with music. I felt like music allowed me to truly express myself and show who I really am, and in late 2020, I started playing bass clarinet along with soprano clarinet. I love its beautiful sound and the way it feels when I play. Bass clarinet inspired me to push further with learning more instruments, and I even got second place in all-region a few weeks ago, placing me into wind ensemble. But me wanting to play saxophone really started this year when I started getting into making my own music and starting to love jazz. I joined my middle school jazz band and have had so much fun with it. I never thought I would be a musician when I was younger, but getting into music has made me such a happier person, and I want to pursue in my music career further by learning to play more instruments, and saxophone is at the very top of the list.
My 8th grade year of middle school, i had already been playing clarinet for 2 years and got the opportunity to join jazz band, under the condition i started playing tenor sax, so in 2018 i started playing tenor and it has really just evolved into my passion for music, my main horn is now bari but i’m also playing soprano, alto, tenor, clarinet, and learning bassoon soon
I started playing saxophone 5 years ago because my family is big into music and none of us had ever tried a brass or woodwind instrument before. ( it also looks really cool )
Hey Saxologic! How are you? My name is Hunter L., I started playing the alto saxophone around 2017 which is 5 years.I took a year break off of the alto to learn the Tenor Saxophone which was amazing and i was saddened to give it back, I immediately resumed with my alto. I actually stared playing the saxophone when I was 11 so it was for a funny reason haha, it was because my best friend played it. Overtime I really started enjoying it a lot more, when my friend stopped I kept on playing because it was so much fun. In the 5 years I have been playing I learned so much, but there is always more to learn. I love jazz and classical music and the diversity that the saxophone brings. Its really a beautiful instrument, I want to continue my journey and learn more about this amazing instrument. Thank you for reading, and have an amazing day!
I started playing alto around 2018, as my mom wanted me to get into music. I wasn't fond of it at all for a very long time, until the pandemic hit. I had always known that jazz existed, but outside of the Christmas big band arrangements, I had never listened to jazz. During the height of the pandemic, I practiced for 4-5 hours a day every single weekday and often the same on weekends if I had the urge. Jazz has completely changed me, from the way I listen to music, the way I perceive art, and even how I think. It really helped me through everyone's current situaton and I hope to keep evolving with my horn and becoming the best p layer possible. Sorry for the rant, as always, love your content!
Thank you for the visit to the Jean Paul warehouse. As the owner of a TS-400 I found it enlightening to see the operation and meet the owners and their family members who run it. The video was also entertaining. Great job.
Jean Paul's wood wind instruments are as great in sound as they are reasonable in price. I have been working with Jean Paul's tenor, alto and soprano 🎷 s which l have purchased six months ago. In the ✋s of Nathan and Kevin, JP soprano and tenor saxophones sound as pleasing as - or even better than - my Selmer Super Action Series saxophones. (smile) I admire Kevin's piccolo chops as well. Great encounter; wise sharing, fellows.
I started to play alto saxophone in 2017 in 5th grade now im a freshman in high school i never thought i would make it this far with my instrument and as soon as i started to learn the saxophone i fell in love with it as soon as i heard one video of a guy playing "all of me" on alto i was like "MAN I WANNA LEARN THAT INSTRUMENT". Till this day i have my saxophone from 5th grade we've had lots of memories together such as my first concert, band camp, and my first field show performance it, I still can't believe my saxophone is a student saxophone that my parents bought for 500 dollars and im surprised how long it has lasted me I will soon have to get a new one because it doesn't play as good it has had a good run all these years ill never forget that time i played my first note on the saxophone
I started to play the saxophone in 2014 because of my grandpa. He was a professional saxophonist for many years and I always loved hearing his amazing stories from his time on the road. What was even better was his ability on the horn, he always knew exactly how to make that thing speak and any time he'd break it out it was a special occasion. I aspire one day to be as good as he was, but I know either way that I'm making him proud in keeping his legacy alive.
Well, I started as a percussionist since I was a kid (8 years old I think) and I loved it. I started with the snare. I played pretty much everything until HS that I joined pit, (I had a bells solo for marching band 😳) but now I’m learning how to play flute and wanna eventually learn how to play all of the woodwinds :)
I started playing the Alto sax in 2017 when I was in 5th grade, and now I am a freshmen in high school. Every time I play my sax I grow fonder of what is to come in my high school years. I started playing it because as a kid I always thought that the Alto was so cool and one day I wanted to be an amazing player and inspire others to play as well. Thank you for giving us this opportunity! Happy Holidays!
I started playing alto in 2020 because I absolutely loved saxaphones and I got inspiration from this channel and I started playing tenor this year And I played a bit of clarinet in 2017
I started playing clarinet in 1973 (4th grade), because all my older siblings played something, trumpet, flute, drums, tuba, and we didn't have a clarinet player yet. Picked up sax later on. Love to see you guys like kids in a candy shop!
Technically I have been playing piano since I was 7 years old, (I'm turning eighteen soon :) I began in 2014 playing clarinet in middle school band. I went that for two years and then doubled playing tenor sax in our jazz band. Once I got into high school I primarily played tenor sax. I had a really good sax teacher and band director, plus an amazing upperclassmen who I still look up to today. They've all inspired me soo much to just grind and get really good. Because of them I have been nominated for Colorado University Honor Band my sophomore year and junior year. As well as Colorado State University Honor Band my Sophomore year. In sophomore year I was playing on an beginner level Bundy, which I also marched on. I think in middle school, everyone does band because they kinda have to. But once I got into high school the main reason I started playing was to improve my sound, (stemming from that inspiration) and also the amazing community. Not only the marching band community but the teachers and even your channel have made my saxophone journey so enjoyable. I am so proud to be a saxophonist. I have always wanted have my own alto sax to expand my musical and instrumental ability. I first heard about this saxophone on better sax's channel, then I saw your video and I was like omg I have to get this. Thank you so much for making amazing content, and helping me procrastinate all my homework :) This is too long haha.
Hi! I started playing the alto sax in 2020 and the reason why I ever wanted to play an instrument is the way that I saw bands and orchestras fully in tune with each other and I really just wanted to experience that for myself.
I started playing bass in 2017 because a friend of mine played it and I was tired of playing the Viola. 3 years later I switched from the upright bass to the bass guitar and have been loving it ever since. I've been planning on getting a saxaphone for a while now because I love the sound and learning a reed instrument would expand my musical knowledge and skills.
In the sixth grade, I had originally joined choir. To be honest, it was cool until I saw all of my closest friends having fun in band. I then decided to join band in the second semester of that year and became hooked with the saxophone. My parents and band directors were patient with me catching up to everybody else in the band. A few years later, I made the TMEA 6A All-State band my sophomore year. I continued to make the All-State band my junior and senior year. I am now a freshman in college as a pre-med student. My passion for playing saxophone has not gone anywhere and I can't wait to keep playing more saxophone.
It all started in 2016 when I went to go choose what instrument I was going to play for band in 6th grade - high school. I then played the alto saxophone at the instrument fitting, and I fell in love with it; therefore, I chose to play alto sax. My dad was happy with my decision because he played alto in high school as well. Once we got home from the event, he pulled out his old, dusty, Yamaha alto sax that he had bought by himself when he was younger. I still use that old, beautiful instrument today for marching, concert, plus solo & ensemble bands!
I'm sure I'm late to this, but I just want to share my journey so far. I started off by picking up a tuba back in about 2016. I played classically until 2018 where I started to learn piano and joined my schools jazz band. I remember playing my first blues Scale, Bb blues, and just falling in love with the notes. From then I knew I was in love with jazz. I went into highschool from there, and just last year picked up playing bari. I play all of the saxophones, but I am in love with bari. I've spent a lot of years studying a TON of music theory and I'm still learning more and more as I go on. Right now I'm planning to attend a music school for jazz studies on bari sax and also to continue playing tuba. I dream one day I'll be able to play in brass bands as a known tubist and also be known for my baritone saxophone playing. Here's hoping🥂
I started playing alto saxophone this year in marching band. I always knew I needed to learn how to play the sax as I was a oboe and never picked up the sax. The first day I played the sax something magical happened and I fell for the sax. Although I was not great at the instrument I learned the basics into the 4th week. As we moved through the season I learned more that the songs but also other etudes and was getting better than the other saxophonist that have been playing for 3 years. It took multiple hour’s and perseverance but soon my hart was with the sax now and hope to bring it to the next level as the practicing continues.
I started my saxophone journey in 4th grade with a student level yamaha which used through 6th grade making two regional honors ensembles and switched to a hand-me-down selmer from my uncle who played it in the rutgers marching band. Since then, I have taken part in almost a dozen state bands both jazz and classical and I am now starting to expand my horizons to flute and clarinet for the purpose of doubling. Also, your videos for all state helped me a TON. Keep up the great content! 🤟🏼
I began my musical journey on the saxophone at the age of 11 in 1968 (Yep! I'm old!), after having spent a couple of years playing the violin in elementary school. My grandfather and my granduncles were all professional musicians who worked with several of the orchestras in the "big band era" and I chose the saxophone as my instrument of choice, primarily as a result of the incredible influence that my grandpa had on me and out of the love and respect that I had for him. My father was (and still is) a collector of great music. I grew up listening to Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz, Donald Byrd, Cannonball Adderley, Maynard Ferguson, and so many more jazz greats. As a teen fresh out of high school, I was invited to share the stage with the late greats Clark Terry and Frank Rossolino. I began college with the intent to be a music instructor.... That ended once I began student teaching as an understudy to my former band director and I realized that I didn't have the temperament required to deal with disruptive teenage students, so I began focusing more on performance. I've been blessed with more opportunity than I rightfully deserve, but the experiences that music has presented me with over the years have enriched my life to a degree that I cannot convey through words. I found this video purely by accident, today.... but, man, what a blessing watching it has been! I absolutely LOVE hearing young talent such as that displayed by the young musicians in this video. They have both clearly done their woodshedding and devoted the time necessary to develop their chops. Bravo, bravo, bravo! Best points to take from this video? (1) There are incredible instruments out there which are fully capable of allowing a talented musician to showcase his or her talents without putting your parents into great debt! Over the years, I've owned MK VI's which played wonderfully and I've played others which were outright "dogs"! Old horns wear out over time and, in many cases, there are not always adequate parts available to replace them with. NEVER purchase an older horn without playing personally and having your trusted sax tech inspect the instrument before committing to the sale! NOT ALL SELMERS, YAMAHAS, KEILWERTHS, are worth the thousands of dollars people are asking for them. (2) While there are a lot of instruments being imported from China, Taiwan, and South Korea, some of these instruments play quite well, despite their low price tags. That fact is clearly proven in this video! A musical who sounds great on a Selmer MK VI will likely sound just a great on any well regulated sax he picks up, given the same mouthpiece/reed combination. While there are many great videos comparing instruments available on the web, this is one of the first I've watched which feature young players proving this fact. I'm grateful to have found this page. I've subscribed and I'm looking forward to more great videos from you in the future. Keep on keeping on, little brother. You have a great future lying in wait. God Bless and best wishes. Oh! WHY do I play, now? I play for Jesus!
I started clarinet when I was 12 years old in 2013. The reason I started was initially because I just thought it would be fun to be in band and my dad happened to play clarinet in high school so I had a free instrument. I switched to tenor sax in 2015 so that I could join the jazz band and I absolutely fell in love. Somehow I knew that that's exactly what I wanted to spend the rest of my life doing. I work daily practicing to one day make music to break barriers and brings people together. That is my dream. Also you and your brother are hilarious
I first picked up the sax in my sixth grade year back in 2010. I’ve always loved the sound of the saxophone and wanted to learn it the best i can. I still play on my student horn to this day mostly bc saxophones are expensive hahaha. Great video Nathan! Appreciate your generosity
I started playing tenor sax when I was 11 because I fell in love with the sound and wanted to learn so bad when I was young. I was in school and got to choose what I wanted to play and I went straight for the tenor sax because I loved how deep and dish the sound can be and I knew that I would want this to be my future. I am now currently going on my second year in college majoring in music education joint symphonic band and our jazz bands as well. I only have two tenor saxophones and have been dying to have an alto to play in my jazz bands. Every time I had lessons I would use you as an example of who I wanted to sound like. You were who inspired to be the best I could be and never give up on the saxophone. I can’t thank you enough for your impact in my life, I remember when I was one of your first subscribers couple years ago and I haven’t missed a video since! But even if I don’t win, I do hope you read this to know at least you have made an impact on someone’s life that has forever changed them to be the best they want to be. Thank you!
I started playing drums in 2000 as a child then picked up trumpet in 6th grade, and now I’m an all grown up band director in Texas trying to get better at my woodwind chops! Love your channel man!
I've been playing since 1991, way back when I was in elementary school. Of all the instruments available, the saxophone just had that sound to it. Totally different than everything else in wind band and I'm so glad I chose it. I was originally the only tenor player in my school with everyone else on alto, probably because of the size/weight. Now I'm primarily an alto player hammering out lead parts. I'm super excited to say that my 9 (very soon to be 10) year old daughter has decided to pick up the saxophone herself. She started in school this year and is learning more every day! It's exciting to see the huge changes in ability at such a young age. I've gotten to see her go from the goose honk to being able to play some simple tunes. I'm super proud of her and can't wait to see how she develops.
I started music in 2nd grade (2013) by taking piano lessons outside of school and playing recorder at school. I fell in love with it! Being able to play songs I knew and recognized was so cool to me. I continued into band in 6th grade, immediately choosing saxophone because I was told it was so versatile. I started taking private lessons and have made all-state 3 years in a row now. To me, music allows me to get away from school and other parts of life and enjoy something. Thanks for all you do for the sax and music community, I certainly feel a part of something being a subscriber to your channel. Keep it up!
6th grade I started Saxophone! the reason I got it was my family recently went through a really rough divorce with one of my parents being more on the abusive side. The way that I would cope with it all would be by "playing" the piano, I never had lessons and honestly was really bad, then my amazing grandfather showed me some old Jazz records and I heard a saxophone in action and instantly fell in love. My mother found someone in our church who was willing to give me lessons and my musical life just took off from there! I just graduated college with a Music Ed degree and am currently starting up a band program at the school I'm hired at, I ended up donating all my instruments to the school to get the program going and while I was sad to see my saxophone go into the hands of another, it brought me such joy to see that students face light up with Joy while holding an instrument that they loved.
I started playing the Mandolin in 5th grade, in 2016. We had in our city's a program that every elementary school chose an instrument and all the pupils in 5th grade will play it for one year and if they like it they can continue. My conservatory offers free tutoring sessions for wind instruments because there are little to no students who are playing them, but you need to bring your own instrument so this is a great opportunity! much love from Israel!
Started playing the saxophone in the 4th grade, around 2009/2010, because I come from a musical family, dad a pianist/educator and my brother a trumpet player, and we happened to have an 1980's student Armstrong alto saxophone that I could use. Played alto for 2 years, moved up to tenor then started adding other woodwinds, like clarinets, flutes, bassoons, oboes and recorders. Fast forward to today, I am an active woodwind doubler playing in pit orchestras across Long Island NY and currently a third year bassoon performance major. I still use that same Armstrong alto for gigs, even though after a few repairs, it's on its last leg lmaoo
I started playing the saxophone in 2018 as a 7th grader. I started playing the instrument because it was in a case under the stairs where it hadn’t been played in 15 years. It was old and beat up but I kept playing the saxophone because I love its sound quality and its ability to mimic almost every instrument and still be just as easily be identifiable as a saxophone sound!
I started drums in 2011 saxophone in 2021, guitar in 2018, and cello in 2021 and I started playing music to improve in skills and impress myself and others
I started playing alto sax about 3 months ago. I’ve always looked up to my dad who played alto throughout college and had a passion for jazz. Him and I have been working on trying to get me started after my switch from trumpet. I have started listening to jazz music quite a bit more and have found my own passion for it. I have been placed first chair (in hs band) jazz and wind ensemble. I have noticed a natural gift for the saxophone that I have been given. Just after 3 months I am doing better than majority of high school but students. I consistently practice everyday for about 3 hours. I thank my dad for it all
I started playing in 1996 because I worked with an old guy who played in trad jazz band and offered to give me free lessons after work. Stopped for nearly ten years when my better half kept popping out babies that always seemed to be asleep and daren’t not wake! Relearnt quite quickly in 2006 but now a days there’s TH-cam to show me I have so much more to learn!
I started playing Alto Saxophone in 6th grade for my middle school band back in 2016 (Concert Band and Jazz Band all throughout Middle School and High School) and have been playing since. I always enjoyed music and playing saxophone, and since 2018 I started producing/recording, mixing and mastering music (RnB, Hip Hop, Pop, Jazz), really becoming my favorite thing to do daily and hoping one day I could create a career out of it (playing and studying music in College atm). Since then I've taught myself piano (synthesizers and sound design too) and guitar, as well as picking up Tenor sax, Bari sax, and EWI. Music and producing songs has very quickly become a passion of mine since I started and I plan to continue it and play music live for as long as possible. Looking back (when music production wasn't even a thought for me), I'm very happy I picked Saxophone as my first instrument for band as it offers a lot of value in a studio setting, and in my opinion is the most useful horn instrument in modern music production today alongside Trumpet.
I began music in 2015 when I started playing a little but of guitar. Later that year I joined middle school band playing saxophone. I’ve been playing since which has been 6 years of experience and fun. Music has really changed me and allowed mr to express my self in many different ways. I love it and love your vids keep creating man!!
It was last month where I picked up my first instrument in my life which is a alto sax. It was a student alto sax and I have no experience at all dealing with music. So for now I’m still learning a little by little how to blow the sax and what the finger placement and stuff. Due to I have no experience on music at all , it a bit of struggle for me to learn but I enjoy the process. Sax is my favourite instrument and I wanted to have it for a quite sometime and last month I have the opportunity to have one. I enjoy having a sax for this one month, hope I will enjoy having sax for my whole life and it will be my patience and hobby to play sax.
I started playing sax in 2016 in one of my primary school’s concert bands because I was inspired by one of my long time friends that I still play with often today. Despite not oringinally being too enthusiastic about playing, I always make time to practice every day as a way to relax since playing instruments really has become my passion. I’m now in both the top concert band and jazz band of the school and play double bass in the top strings band too!
I started playing the saxophone in 2003. The school I went to used to send a letter out to all of the parents advertising the extracurricular activities that the school had to offer. The earliest anyone could join concert band was 5th grade. So when the time came, my parents rented a King alto saxophone; and my saxophone adventures began (and haven't stopped!) I hope I'm not too late! Either way, I love your content, keep it up, you're doing an awesome job! 🎷🎷🎷
i started playing alto sax in 2015. i was a very average student player. then, i really found my passion for alto in 2017-2018. i was in 8th and made state honors band, made state solo ensemble for the first time, and found myself falling in love with alto. then in high school, i joined every single music extracurricular. and now, i’m a senior in high school, where in the past 4 years i also picked up drumming, i play drum set, and i play snare in my schools drumline. i also started bari sax this year for my schools show choir combo. i picked up clarinet this year to play in the pit orchestra for my schools musical where i played alto and clarinet. and i also picked up the soprano sax a few years ago.i plan on majoring in music performance next year, with alto sax being my primary. no matter what i learn as a musician, or what new instrument i pick up, alto will always have my heart
I started playing the french horn in 2006. I was always into classical music and when i had a choice of what instrument to learn the music school barely had french horn players so i stuck with it. Loved it since.
I started playing in 2021, a tenor saxophone, I did so because I had watched so many of your videos on another device before, so I asked my band teacher for a saxophone, and since then I've been loving it.
I started on sax in 2018 in my school band as a freshman because I really loved the sound of Brian Scanlon and Eric Marienthal. I'm a woodwind doubler now in my schools band and I love every second of it.
I started playing the Alto Saxophone In 2014. I wanted to play an instrument because my brother played trumpet, but I did not want to copy him. So I chose Alto sax the next coolest looking instrument. I'm now in my highschools jazz band and playing the Alto Saxophone Is a blessing. I love your channel keep up the great content.
I started playing the saxophone in 2015 in elementary school. My dad played the saxophone and I thought it was cool, so that’s the instrument I picked. I switched to tenor sax in middle school when I joined jazz band. I listened to Coleman Hawkins and Lester young and just fell in love with the tenor.
I started sax in 2019 in concert band. I was going to be in percussion but I had licked the sax first. Ever since then, my love and knowledge for music has grown. I now play bari sax and alto and I have honor band tryouts soon!! Jazz, concert, and marching band have all helped me grow to love music that much more.
I started playing guitar back in 2015, my mom is a guitarist and a bassist so naturally I ended up playing them too. I've never played sax but I always thought it was a cool instrument and I want to learn. Also, I just wanna say I found out about you through your brother's channel and wow you guys are seriously talented, I love it. I hope y'all produce more music together.
I started playing saxophone in 2014. Middle school band because, the only instrument that had given any sort of interest was the sax. I went through all of 4th grade dreaming of playing the sax. Once I got into 5th grade band I knew I had to pick it, and now here I am playing now. These saxophone seem amazing. The creators of said saxophones are truly a blessing to those who can't afford some of those "great" saxes. Making amazing, affordable sax for the general public is amazing.
My music journey began in 2003 with the violin in elementary school orchestra, but program was so underfunded that I stopped after 2 years. Then a few years later at the end of middle school I started piano and a little bit later guitar because I was mainly listening to rock music. Got decent at it, but after moving away for college I basically stopped playing. Finally out of college I started up again and started posting covers here on youtube and instagram! During this revival of music in my life I also started getting curious about wind instruments and found your channel a few months ago, then one thing led to another and now I own a Jean Paul TS-400 haha. Thanks for making this video, I was actually in touch with Tim for a few weeks to help me with my sax and it's awesome seeing their passion for their instruments. Hopefully I get the opportunity to play an Alto too :)
I love your videos my guy! I started playing clarinet in 2008 for my school band because my mother pushed me to have a creative outlet. However, I recently have rekindled my love for music during the Pandemic and have decided to learn the saxophone!
I started playing saxophone in 2013 after the music teacher at my school gave a demonstration to my grade 4 class and I was immediately encapsulated with it. I really picked up saxophone as it gave me something to escape from as I didn't really fit in as a kid, so having something that could take my mind off things and to find people I connected with was stellar. I later moved schools and into a place where I could continue saxophone and join the year 5 band program where I picked up clarinet. Almost 10 years later and here I am still playing both going into a bachelor's of music studying classical saxophone and playing clarinet in several orchestra's. Music genuinely changed my life for the better and gave me something I could belong to and relate with.
I started playing guitar over 10 years ago and learned everything I know through TH-cam and stuff. Then out of the blue I bought an alto about two years ago and really got the intention of getting good. I took lessons and played every day for a year, then I got myself a tenor as a gift and been playing it every day ever since
Started playing oboe in the fall of 2006 because the elementary school band director, Mr. Stalzer, asked me if I would be interested in playing it. It’s my main instrument to this day. As for sax, I started on soprano in the summer of 2013 and later tenor in the fall of the same year because I wanted to play a woodwind in my high school’s big band. My parents got me a tenor once I graduated hs two years later and it’s been with me ever since.
I started on bass clarinet in 2017 and added tenor sax for my school's jazz band in 2018. This year I started playing bari sax as well and I still love all three instruments.
In 2007 (5th grade) my first alto sax was handed to me by Mr. Lauderdale, our music teacher. Can't remember the make or model (not sure it was ever relevant to me at that point). I then moved on to a craiglist Conn student model from probably the 60's. My next horn was another Jupiter student model that I still have today. The little melodies in the practice books weren't terribly engaging, but I seemed to get the hang of things pretty fast. Before jazz, it was simply the thrill of being part of a band, being directed to produce something larger than ourselves. Over time however, jazz took over as the leading inspiration for my continued study of the saxophone. Big Band Swing was my first exposure, followed by months and years worth of Bird recordings. To this day, I can still play that first ever Bird solo I learned on Yardbird Suite.
I started to play the Alto Sax in my 5th grade year of 2016, and I remember the day they told us we had to choose an instrument to play. My dad, and Alto player (Soprano too) urged me to play and I did. It was simple to learn and the songs were fun, and some of my early friends were there with me too. Since then I have always enjoyed playing fun pieces and compositions, and fighting over who has the melody in middle school. Now I’m in the high school and my love for the sweet sax horn has taken off. And now I had discovered your channel a month ago and I think you are an amazing player and I would love a chance at that beautiful horn. Thanks, and Happy holidays!
Hi! I started playing violin in 2007 because I wanted to be in my elementary school’s orchestra. The year after I began playing sax because what I really wanted was to be in band, but my school didn’t let 3rd graders be in band. Loved it ever since, and now I am a current 1st year master’s student in saxophone performance! The rest is history, as they say 😅 happy thanksgiving my dude! ❤️🦃
I started playing the saxaphone in 2019 and am now in 8th grade band playing tenor, I started playing because scence I was a little kid me and my grandpa would always set in his living room and play a bunch of musical instruments together and he is the one that really got me into music and its arts and affects on humanity altogether.
I started playing Irish trad when I was 5 or so in 2009 in school on a tin whistle then moved onto concertina when I was 11 or so. I playthe flute in my school orchestra now and I love it so much, but unfortunately I can't play with the pandemic. I don't take lessons or anything it's just for the craic. I've admired the saxophone for years and always wanted to play it, so I bought one with my first few paychecks impulsively, but haven't regretted it since. I'm still squeaky, but I have a few songs down and I love how I subconsciously end up dancing while playing it. Its very comforting, even with how loud it is, and I never thought I could get so many styles out of one instrument 😂 Been banished to the garden to practice at the minute though
Me too
That's what's up 💪💪
I'm a Trumpet player I've been playing since 4th grade I'm a sophomore now so that's 6 years Ive been playing trumpet 🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺
And you have the nerve to put your name as Logantheworst 💀
What grade did you start in
Jean Paul!!! I love his flute! did a review a while back! Gonna have to visit one day soon. Far drive from Montreal, but Im sure its worth it!
Wow nice to see you here, I'm a regular viewer from Montreal! You help me a lot in my flute doubling entreprises, thanks a lot!
@@alexambroise111 amazing thats great. The montreal flute festival is coming back next August. Drop by!!
@@flutechannel awesome will do!!
Thanks a bunch for the motivation along the way.
sheeeesh
This is my third year playing alto for middle school. At the beginning of the school year I was actually thinking about quitting band, but my band teacher invited me to try playing tenor sax for our jazz band, so I tried and loved it. I tried playing jazz pieces on alto and loved that too. The swing and smooth sound of jazz made me want to never put down my sax(s). I just recently started learning trumpet. I have grown a huge passion for playing sax.
So you’re in 8th grade I’m in 6th and I play the trombone and I’m gonna do double band soon and play sax as well
Tenors the best
I’m in 8th too I play tenor and clarinet. Tenor jazz is so good.
@@reptilia829 I love tenor sax
@@BIGBALLS796 I’m in 7th and play the alto
I started playing the acoustic guitar in 2006 because my brother used to play, and I love listening to him, but the sax sound is for me the most emotional and magical sound I've ever heard. We live in Brazil where instruments like the sax are very expensive, and one of my dreams is to learn this beautiful instrument, I hope one day to have my sax and be able to make people feel like I feel when I listen to it.
I feel you. I play the tenor and the saxes are such an amazing instrument
Now that I’m old and grown I’m a satisfied Jean-Paul customer who loooves her TS-400, and loves the price too😁
Great to hear from you Lucy! I miss all you Katz as well. That was definitely the best 700$ horn I've ever played.
Also sweet piccolo lick at 8:00 for the picc lovers!
you have commented a lot on this video...
@@gersten1008 right
Haha Thanks!
What tune is that lick from?
0:54 the fact that the both of you have the exact same sense of humor is 90% of your humor
and i'm meaning that in the best way possible
Kinda same here
I started playing sax in 2017 when I first joined band and I instantly loved it, now I am a freshman in high school in wind ensemble and my love for the instrument has only grown since I first picked it up.
Yes clarinet is amazing
(smile)
I admire Kevin's piccolo chops as well.
I hope no matter how big Paul's company gets i hope they keep the cheap amazingly well made options for the students.
I started playing alto in 2020 because I absolutely loved saxaphones and I got inspiration from this channel and I started playing tenor this year
And I played a bit of clarinet in 2017
i started around 2019 and ive switched from alto to bari, i fucking love it lmao
700$ for that tenor, my jaw dropped!!!!!
In 2000 I started playing piano cause my parents thought I'd be good at it :)
So when the time came, my parents rented a King alto saxophone; and my saxophone adventures began (and haven't stopped!)
I hope I'm not too late!
I am just starting out on my sax journey. David Bowie is my inspiration. I love your videos. Your humour and enthusiasm is fantastic.
