when he says "you can't hide from the eyes of Notre Dame" it's a double entendre; Notre Dame is a high tower, so it sees everything. But Notre Dame also means "our lady", aka Mary, who is divinated and revered and would also see everything you do.
In the movie it does zoom in to the statue of Mary
In Hellfire, Frollo prays to Maria for forgiveness and strength regarding sin of 'lust'
In the books Victor Hugo also implies Notre Dame itself can think, like when it sends Frollo to his death by breaking the gargoyle statue
Ya'll looking too fucking deep into a kids movie.

Caleb: my voice can go low
Caleb later: *_*HIGH PITCHED GOD NOISES_**
His vocal range is insane.
ye I searched a compilation of his vocal range this cover is where his voice is above a5 which fricking high
His range is what makes it godly

I get goosebumps every time!
Disney of that time didn't fuck around
Its true man im going through healing right now and it is very hard to face the courruption you have picked up along your path in life. Even something small like smoking cigarettes can scare you
Disney Version: A corrupted Religous man tries to kill a baby accusing it of being a monster.
Young Version: A Demon hidden in plain sight tries to kill a deformed child, mistaking it for monsters he's seen on plenty of times in the depths of hell.
Amazing

I really like these comparison comments
You comment has 666 likes. I would've liked it as well but I dont want to ruin it
This version sounds almost taunting, like the spirits of Notre dame singing the tale of Frollo. Almost like they are torturing him for his deeds after his death for eternity
That's an interpretation I can get behind!
Almost as though he cannot escape the eyes of Notre Dame
You're so right!
True.
Sounds lit
Original: a storyteller to children
This: an epic opera/musical meant to be done in the most high class places
Mmmm yes
I'd totally go to an metal opera version of the story.
I wouldn't say the original was meaning for children...
@@arnulfo2503 I mean, the guy was telling the story to some kids :/
I would actually pay to see this at the Royal Albert Hall.

Well, at least your name isn’t Joan. Probably.
"Who is the monster, and who is the man?" Decades later, and the message of this song is still relevant. In fact, the original story goes back to the 1830s. This is what makes something a *timeless* classic.
Oh fuck
I gotta read the original tale
Hopefully I can find it
@@MajorWilliamHampton Here it is the book was written by Victor Hugo en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hunchback_of_Notre-Dame
if i remember correctly... in Victor hugo's Frollo was the one who shown compassion to the malformed child... however. i agree with you, this version is still magnificient. and relatively correct adaptation of the major points of the story with a simpler plot (if it were 100% accurate, the movie would probably be 4 hours long).
@@Wargulf2838 The character of the Archdeacon and the Judge seemed to both based on Frollo from the book. Frollo is a somewhat complex character in the books, a man who lets his passions get the worst of him that he strived so hard to bury deep, and is the architect of the tragedy that unfolds.
That cackle from Jonathan at the end is proof that he needs to be a Disney villain
*He could be a shapshifter hiding in an old abandoned opera house, sending visions and shit into people's minds about everything evil in the world*
T. Hart The cackle after 'she ran' was even more solid proof tbh
He would have been perfect for Scar in the remake tbh

Don't say "RIP Notre-Dame". It still "lives". It was already reconstructed during the 19th century. And it's not the first time a cathedral has to be reconstructed in France, Notre-Dame de Reims was also rebuilt after it was bombed during WW1.
And today with 3D plans, they know exactly how it was. So yes, the building will be different, but its story lives on throughout centuries and, in a way, that's beautiful too :)

I see all the comments about the vocals, and they are amazing, but how about that lighting on Jonathan's face! The way it makes his eyes look black and accentuates the corners of his mouth as he sings. He looks like the Comedy and Tragedy masks came to life and sang this song. Absolutely perfect!
The exact thing I thought of the first time I heard this
That's right! I can't stop thinking about those masks in Dark Deception.

OMFG SAME HEREEE
I thought that said horny demon vibes and had to rewind my eyes through the comment. I was glad I fact checked. Heavy demon vibes indeed.
For some reason I always imagine some kind of dark, steampunk "heavy metal album cover" alternate universe of the Hunchback whenever I hear this... Where Frolo wears a mask/helmet thing with four mechanized faces on all sides like the Quintessons in Transformers and rides on a spiky, black-and-red FF6-style mecha-horse and Quasi's mom is parkour-ing like a badass through the iron pipes and dilapidated rooftops until she finally gets killed on the steps of the church... XD
I don't know why, but this needs to happen.
why are we not funding this
CoriSparks just right a story and hope for a break.
The original novel was far darker qith Frolo being a priest and a lot for death.
I'd watch that
I just wanted to say thank you to you and Caleb. My son Aden is 7 years old and and has Autism and let me tell you, he is the biggest fan of you both. He still has problems with speech, but when he listens to music he becomes more verbal. He loves the sound you guys have, not only by yourselves, but together! He mimics your videos and tries to sing exactly like you both. I am a Disney NERD and you have given me special moments with my son. We share a love of Disney music now (he only likes ya'lls versions...) and we have never really had that kind of connection because it is hard for him to associate and connect with people. You both helped me make that connection with him, and for that, I cannot thank you both enough! It means the world to me. Please keep doing what you are doing, because it changes lives! ❤

Seriously, this entire song is absolutely incredible. I agree, that line is amazing from a lyrical stand.
bro that line gives me chills 💀✋🏻

"The fisherman fishes, the bakerman bakes, to the bells of Notre Dame"
The point is that everyone does everything to the bells of Notre Dame (they are being watched by the "eyes"); later even a sinner sins on the steps of Notre Dame. It's a cutesy way of introducing the pervading spirit of Notre Dame (which is the watchful eyes of Mary, the saints, or God depending on what level of symbolism you're looking at).

Caleb's part as the archdeacon is genuinely better than the original, and I LOVE the original!
Such emotion!
You can really feel the "How DARE you defile this sacred ground!" in his voice.
the funny thing that originally the archeadcon is Frollo
And he was cut from that role in the movie as it was going to be seen as disrespectful to the church organizations across the world. He was a judge instead.
@@Craig-bz2iu Frollo in the original book had more positive traits - and was genuinely in between good and evil - unlike the movie where he's very obviously fully evil.
Obviously, it's a novel from Victor Hugo, which means it's very dark and very contemplative of the human condition. He is, after all a realistic author - as in a part of the realist movement not actual realism.
@@Oznerock yes, he did actually educate Quasimodo upon sign language in the book when he was deaf from ringing the bells. And he gave money to his brother, though he was reluctant for the fact Jehan was a drunkard who spent his months mostly on beer. This was to help Jehan with poverty.

Almost? Is totally scary
Jacob Owens they’re perfectly similar, yet perfectly different at the same time. It’s amazing, and scary...
Jacob Owens that like count tho
This version is amazing! And I noticed an interesting fact about this song thanks to this cover. When Frollo starts to chase Quasimodo's mother, the composer chose to use "Dies Irae" in the background. This particular piece is quite old, about 1000 AD, and has been used in requiems. Therefore it is foreshadowing the mother's death.
Agree! I think we can also see into it the dement behaviour of Frollo who will make his own damnation in the future. So coooooooooool
It also foreshadows Frollo’s demise.
Dies Irae means "day of anger/wrath", it is was used in requiems that are religious pieces. I think it represent Frollo's wrath and the fact that he is corrupting his faith in order to justify his cruelty.
@@b.pauline422 Thank you, we also watched this video. Idiot.

And if you think that is scary, you should know that it is thanks to the novel in the first place that the cathedral was still standing. It regained popularity after the hunchback was published, but before, there were plans to actually demolish the whole thing instead of renovating it.
I think you mean 'wrath'. Wraith is the Rolls-Royce.
I believe it refers to the second coming, more specifically the 7 years when Satan gains control of the world, and releases chaos, death, destruction etc, before God slays him and all that.
Which one? This isn't the first time it happened.
The Caleb's part (3:01) is like an "emotion nuclear bomb."

They honestly need to do a heavy rock Hunchback of Notre Dame production with Johnothan Young doing music and directing. And David Grohl has to play one of the Gargoyles.
3:16 is the best part imo in both the original and the cover. Damn, Caleb does such a good job as the Archdeacon, and he sounds so badass lol, rebuking Frollo. Normally we don't think of priests as being "badass" but man, the Archdeacon was. Even more impressively he was badass without harming so much as a hair on Frollo's head. Just goes to show I guess what conviction and well-chosen words can do haha. Of course, Jonathan was amazing in this too! Good job to both of you!

You guys rocketed this beautiful song into the space with awesomeness!!! :)
I love the dicodomy between Johnathan's delivery of the line "A baby?! A monster!!" as if Frolo's relishing in his atrocities as opposed to Tony Jay's original where he's physically repulsed, as if trying to retain his veneer of piousness!
Damn John’s voice is perfect for dark music. And of course Caleb is a God among men in terms of his vocal range
Okay, but Calebs high note left my ears ringing.. in a good way
You should hear that final note Nightcored, just turn the volume down a little before it arrives, or you'll go deaf.
like the bells of notre dame ringing?
This is perfection. Jonathan has the must stunning voice for Frollo, and Caleb's voice as the Archdeacon just speaks to me of the clergyman's horror at what Frollo has done. A stunning rendition by two of my favourite TH-camrs, which has brought me to truly appreciate a song I never cared much for beforehand. Bravo!
Biggus Richardus anytime they collab is their best
Biggus Richardus Love their collaborations. They sound good singing together
I think the use of a darker tone, more song like construction, and appropriate usage of their vocal talents (ie using the higher and lower tone notes for dramatic effect) really helps it.
Johnathan has the appearance to fit the villain obviously so I just hope that the Disney live action hunchback of notre dame learns his potential
The really beautiful thing is in the book, the archdeacon doesn’t exist. Frollo is both. That means he’s warring with himself over his murder of Quasi’s mom, and every act of compassion is his better nature making him feel sorry, so to manifest his better angel as a person with whom he can argue and eventually shut out makes the story that much sadder.
That evil laugh at the end. That's not just your standard evil villain laugh. That is the laugh of a man so hardened and cold that he has both feet already through hell's door and doesn't even care. Except it's all just his phenomenal acting. Terrifying and yet uncomfortably awesome.
Spot on!
"Care for the child, and raise it as your own"

Nor hide what you've done from the eyes
The very eyes of Notre Dame
And for one time in his live
Of power and control
(Kyrie Eleison)
Frollo felt a twinge of fear
For his immortal soul
Just so he's kept locked away
Where no one else can see
Even this foul creature may
Yet prove one day to be
Of use to me
Now here is a riddle to guess if you can
Sing the bells of Notre Dame
Who is the monster and who is the man
Sing the bells, bells, bells, bells
Bells, bells, bells, bells
Bells of Notre Dame
The hero we didn't ask for
But the hero we needed
You forgot “STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHP!!!!!!!”
Up you go!
I could listen to Caleb singing the arch deacon's part on a loop forever and ever until the end of time
bitch omg me too.....
Same. That righteous anger is just something to behold.
The original line: *stop!*
This version: _STOOOOOOOooooOoOOoooooOOoOOOOOOOOOOOooooooOOOOOOOoooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooOOooooOOOooooOOOOOOOOoooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooOOOOOP_
Every time he says Notre Dame, I get shivers from the tone and note changing! So clear and pleasing to the ear!
Any song containing Latin instantly becomes 200% more metal.
I honestly think it’s due to Latin being so associated with the Catholic Church, and their role in the Spanish Inquisition, and how much fear it struck into many during then and that fear was like ingrained into folks through history and generations, to where now when you hear it, it causes an uneasy feeling, unless obviously you live near Italy lol
@@dw4725 I don't feel uneasy when I hear Latin in music. Latin in music makes ME feel epic by proxy. Like I could run faster than sound, lift a schoolbus, or take on an ancient sword-wielding army. I think I feel pretty ambivalent about Latin outside of music, but in music (especially high-energy music) Latin gets me pumped!
But that's just me.
When Joathan Sings Nowwwwwwwwww at 4:16 it gave me the chills
Totally channels Tim Curry. While he’s not in the film, it reminds me of Curry in Fern Gully
Same here. That one word is my favorite part of this already amazing cover
its a flat 5th, which creates tension towards the diatonic 5th of the key. in laymans term, crunchy dissonance make brain happy
also forgot to mention that a flat 5th, when paired with the 1 note makes a tritone, or the devil's interval
Hellfire is one of my all-time favorite songs. It's just so haunting and aggressive. It's great. I'm also a huge punk rocker. So, when I saw Jonathan I was a bit skeptical because Hellfire is A LOT to live up to. But, shit if they didn't make it even better! I'm seriously obsessed! Also, I know this comment is four years late, (my bad) but I'm new to this channel. Don't judge. Also also, Jonathan is fiiiiiine af!!
Person: "What's the currency in Animal Crossing?"
Me: 4:35
BELLS, BELLS, BELLS, BELLS, BELLS, BELLS, BELLS OF NOTRE... DAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
The close-ups on Jonathan's face were really unsettling. It was super uncanny valley.
Crimson Trax I thought I was the only one who thought that! Every time he smiles in the dark the smile just looks super creepy like he’s the Joker or something. Very well done for atmosphere.
Yes
THIS AGED WELL.
Like a fine wine indeed 👌
it did
I want a live version of this outside notre dame when it's finished being rebuilt in 2024
This isn’t a new video by any means, but the frame rate and the lighting makes your face look like a mask, or one of the stone faces of the Kings of Isreal from the side of Notre Dame. Truly haunting. Its well appreciated!!!
Please please please do The Plagues from Prince of Egypt. You two would be more than amazing.
I've been waiting forever for someone to do a metal cover of that!
yeeeeeeeesssss
OMG yes plzzzz
OMG yes, YES!!!
Oh, my God!! Yes!
Caleb holy hell that high nothing gave me life. And Jonathan I have always thought your voice was soothing in its coming from deep within.
note *
I love how they puts so much passion in this.
4:47
CHILL CALEB YOU NED YOUR THROAT
Caleb: Bells...bells...bells...
Me: uh?
Caleb: *switches to head voice* BELLS OF NOTRE DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Me: jesus christ *collapses in front of all of that talent*
The Bells Of Notre Dame.
The perfect mix between the bouncy major chords and the dark hum of the minor chords.
Then Jonathan takes it all to the next level.
All I can say is:
*WOOW*
Woah
Woah
Woah.
Woah!
WOWOWOWOWOWOWOOWOWOWOW.
A video showed up in my feed about a musician saying Jonathan ruined this track, so I'm here giving this several more views today. Jonathan, you are awesome, and don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. If only I could give this video more than one like.
Imagine watching the movie with all his metal covers replacing the original. I want it.
Imagine this metal cover along with an orchestra, now that will be spectacular
Have you ever considered covering 'Savages' from Pocahontas?
Odd Fellow oh my gosh yes, and do it with Caleb or NateWantsToBattle
Odd Fellow They just did it!
Hell yeah!
Musical Raven
NATE. YES.
There aren't many things in this world that give me life. Caleb's high note and the way Jonathan this that "nnnnnoooooowww" are two of them.
That 'nnnnooooooowwww' is honestly my favourite part of the song xD
I really like how the shadows play off of Jonathan's face (specifically his eyes and mouth) and make him look like one of those greek comedy/tragedy masks. It's a really good touch considering the narrator's literally a jester/performer/whatever.
Coming in from just listening to this on Spotify. I did NOT see that Caleb was in it and got chills when I heard him.
I almost screeched.
I think this is one of your best Disney covers yet! I wasn't sure if I'd like it because I LOVE this song so much that its a lot to live up to, but this was absolutely perfect, seriously well done!
100% agreed! And not just the music, but also the direction and the lighting made it that much better too.
Oh damn, I remember watching you "What not to say to Goth Girls" about a year back xD Idk why I forgot to subscribe to you ack then... Oh well, that has been changed now :P Stay awesome!
ikr
Totally agree with you. It's by far my favorite cover he's done.
Agreed! Btw, I love your channel XD
Metal Choir needs to be a thing.
1F Y0U C4N R34D 7H1S Y0U'R3 C00L yeeeessss
It actually is a thing ;)
but it needs to be more of a thing
I CAN READ IT!!!
Hell yes
I love how the other guy wasn't pissed that he did it, but that he did it *on the steps of Notre Dame*
💀💀
People I meet: What's your favorite song?
Me: It's complicated. *Plays this version of The Bells of Notre Dame*
I get goosebumps everytime Caleb does the "Stop". I also love the distortion on Jonathan's "A Monster". Great job, guys!
Young's villain voice is...
*trembles*
Orgasmic?
I'll just leave this comment at 69 likes
The_Lost_Son Too late.
What kind of tremble is that?
Listening to his voice is... borderline *orgasmic*
My nostalgia grew up and THIS is what it sounds like.
This is the most haunting and powerful version of this song I have heard. The chills I get from the whole exchange is beautiful.
Keep up the good work lads !
How about you try a metal cover of "Friends on the other side"? :D
yeah :)
That'd be so awesome.
Yaaaaaaaasssssss!!!!!!
YEEEEEEEES! That would be so badass!
Totally agree with you! I love your pic by the way. Just started watching Soul Eater & it's awesome & kinda confusing at the same time.
I...have no words. HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!!!!!!!
Michael Emerson-Quaynor I know, so much amazement in one cover lol
Technically those were three.
Michael Emerson-Quaynor you appear to have 3 words.
HOLY COW! I was actually left stunned at Caleb's last part. Just when I think he can't get anymore impressive and he hits THAT high note. Tell Caleb my respect for him and his singing has risen.
This song and "Hellfire" still hurt me on another level... after I watched The Hunchback of Notre Dame for the first time I wanted to see this gorgeous cathedral. After the fire it's not possible anymore. It still breaks my heart
OMG when he says 'the bakerman bakes' it sounds so freaking dramatic and epic.
I love the lines
But you can never run
Nor hide what you've done
from the eyes; the very eyes of Notre Dame
Edit: 793 likes? Excuse me but W H Y?
AlCreon 66 best lyrics from that movie.
ersonally I think this cover fucked it up because of the voice they used for it.
Caleb nailed it!
the tale of a man and a monster .
the tale of quasimodo and frolo .
in that very right order ... ;)
Necro Playz same
The moment of the archdeacon is intense, the blue light behind symbolizes for me the intervention of God.
Why is nobody talking about when Caleb sings the priest's part? I get chills literally every time!!!
