I feel like this song actually promotes a positive message to boys about what it means to be a man. It seems to talk about keeping your emotions under control, being balanced but rising to the occasion when circumstance calls for it.
It does, but not in the way you and the others who've replied to you probably think it does. The entire movie is about challenging gender norms. Mulan had to pretend she was a man. Li Shang fell in love with her while he still thought she was a man - and it happened during this song. The second time this song was played was when Ling, Yao and Po dressed like women.

Live Action Mulan was legit a pleasure piece for China. The first 5 mins turned me off. I was barely in primary school when it was released, it's my favourite Disney movie by far, and the live action was like seeing Anakin just before being severed and then after being burned.

Because in 2020 telling someone to "be a man" is either seen as a negative or is insulting. This song is about being a real man, ie strong, brave, and above all else making yourself better. It doesn't fit the narrative where telling someone to "be a man" might hurt their feels. This song is literally the opposition to the "woke" world we live in today. Disney embraces everything woke, which is why Mulan 2020 was a heaping pile of dog sh**. The original is one of the most empowering stories for women AND men.

Because in 2020 telling someone to "be a man" is either seen as a negative or is insulting. This song is about being a real man, ie strong, brave, and above all else making yourself better. It doesn't fit the narrative where telling someone to "be a man" might hurt their feels. This song is literally the opposition to the "woke" world we live in today. Disney embraces everything woke, which is why Mulan 2020 was a heaping pile of dog sh**. The original is one of the most empowering stories for women AND men.

If they left it out because it show people in Medieval China were sexist - just like they were everywhere else - they are leaving out the exact lesson the story has to offer.
