Hi there im not really up to speed on knowledge on these british locos so what does the 2 white dots supposed to be on the head code area or are they painted on spotlights or are they real. I would like to know as the green loco has numbers and letters on it.
    Cheers from John in Australia

I understand that when the head codes no longer needed to be displayed, the boxes containing the number displays were converted, leaving two marker lights that had originally illuminated the numbers from behind. These can be seen on the loco in the more modern blue livery but the green liveried one has had the head code restored, in keeping with its earlier look.

Frosted glass marker. Pretty much decorative. Former location of the head code.
