I was on that tour as well. Some of the DPS guys were sat opposite my table and the gen at the time was that 1 engine was giving trouble so they decided to ask for the ECML 'Thunderbird' 67 rather than risk going back to London on only 1 engine. We eventually got into KX at around 0100 and it would probably have been quicker to have limped home with the Deltic , but hey ho!

In the grand scheme of things, 019 did manage to get to edinburgh, would have been nice to go back, but on a 50 year old machine, bovvers do happen.
why didn't the 47 take over ?
