  • The Pegasus underwent major changes once again for 2020, with React foam in the midsole and a new gender-specific zoom air pocket. Are these changes for the better? And how is the Peg 37 holding up after 100 miles?
    TLDW: it's great.
    Disclosures: this is a pair of shoes that I purchased with my own money. No one sent the shoes to me or is paying me to make this video. No one will preview my thoughts of footage before this video goes up on youtube.

    I’d like to point out that this shoe is designed to do it all. As a result a lot of people use it especially high schoolers and college students who spend some time training on grass and dirt. For that reason I think they hesitated to remove some rubber. I personally like that the entire outsole is covered because it makes the shoe perform better on those surfaces especially when they are wet.

    Started slowing training again in July 2020 and gradually have been increasing mileage. Recently turned 61 and bought a pair of Pegasus 37's for myself after watching your videos. Did a 13.1 mile training run this afternoon in the Peg and they were great. I tend to bruise the balls of my feet easily and the Zoom air bag was great. I normally wear a men's size 10.5 but went up to an 11 in the Peg and they fit great. Thanks for your videos.

    I've run off and on in the Pegasus through the years and it's always been a durable long wearing shoe. I've found that the full rubber outsole with that classic waffle tread is great for transitioning from road to trail and back again. I personally don't mind a little heavier shoe, but then I'm not a 135lb Kenyan either. Don't own the 37, but watching this was pretty convincing to do so. Great review as always!

I’ve been running in the Nike Revolution 4s, which are in their budget line, but they have worked nicely, I am hoping for a bit more support and it sounds like the 37s are going to fit the bill.

    I’ve been running in the 37 since mid-June and it’s worked great for me so far. It feels significantly firmer than the 35s I replaced with them which I like a lot, but I don’t like how high they stacked it. I felt the zoom pocket A LOT when I first bought em, but now I don’t unless I’m using an aggressive forefoot strike. I agree that the upper should be thinner, especially since running in socks isn’t uncommon. I’m really happy to hear about the lack of wear on the outer edge of the rubber, as my 35s wore down in that area super fast making it really uncomfortable to run in after a while.

    Great work as always! Appreciate all the work you put into making these videos. I own most of the new Nike running shoes and find Nike just works best for my feet compared to other brands. The Pegasus 37 is a great daily runner with excellent traction and I find the fit and material to be superior. Got the pegasus 36 while it was on sale for 56 usd, been running 5-10k daily mix road/trail for 100km, feels stable and bouncy while not being too much cushioned; snug breathy and comfy upper, lots of toe room which is exactly what i'm looking for my wider feet. I'd echo a lot of your thoughts. I have about 60 miles in mine, and enjoying them for a variety of runs. I notice the Zoom Air pocket in the forefoot when I accelerate to tempo pace, there's a distinct springy-ness coming off the pavement that's not there at more leisurely paces. It's not the fastest shoe, or lightest, but a pretty fantastic overall package that can handle almost anything, and for its price point I think Nike did a good job this year. Would like to see a lighter, more breathable version for the 38 next year but no major complaints.

    Came back to see this vid again. I have over 330+ miles but after 275 miles I'm hearing a small pop on the right shoe...possibly the air pocket either popped or got deformed.
    I will second Kofuzi on the wear, for 300+ miles on mine, there's very little wear. Great shoe if you're on a budget and can only afford a couple of pairs a year as it can do everything from slow runs to some decent speed workouts. Cheers

  • @MaartenAnna
    @MaartenAnna 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Got my pair last week; have done a 3km slowpace to break them in and a 5km tempo in them. I have them customised similarly to yours with the easy lacing system. I like the little latch system, so you can hook them onto your laces, so they don’t bounce around. What is a shame is that I ordered a wide version, it’s still really tight in the midfoot, though the last couple of kms it started to feel a little better. However, due to the easy lacing system, I can’t do a runner’s knot, which leads to quite a bit of heel slippage, which is new for me. But, I really like the shoe, it’s really comfy for slow pace, and if you pick up the pace you start to activate the air zoom pod on the mid/front foot landing & toe-off. But I agree with you, there are othe Nike shoes, and other brands that do better threshold, interval & race pace shoes. I myself have the Nike ZoomFly 3 as my rotation shoe for that, also with react foam, but with a carbon plate, eventhough you & EddBud weren’t big fans of that one. I still need to compare, but I think that the ZoomFly3 is more efficient at higher speeds. I saw you have a Stryd pod, perhaps you could compare the 2?

    However i feel pegasus 37 is longer making some of user complaining of heel slip. This will ruin some long run.

    I really like mine after about 40km, only complaint is they are quite a warm shoe, as mentioned in your vid. To be fair, winter temperatures here mean I'm running in 15-25 C, so not exactly cold. I'll be interested to see how they go in summer.

    I love my 37s way more than I've ever loved my 36s. Way snappier and just more comfortable. Did 250km so far in the 37 and they feel great, they needed some breaking in though before they really started to soften up. Im at 20km in my turbo 2's and I have to say that I'm very underwhelmed, but let's hope it gets better after some more runs. I will definitely get another pair of 37s when I'm done with my first pair :)

    after all the hype I decided to get a pair of nike's I went to the shoe store to try on the peg 37. they slipped out of the heal cup and was narrow in the toe box. so I decided to get them custom made for me. after 2 weeks they arrived. I have worn them several times and used different methods to tie my shoes. Even though I had order a wide version they still felt too narrow in the toe box and I wish I had ordered the extra wide version. the heal still slips in and out still and I feel like this shoe will never make my shoe rotation. I love my fuel cell rebel, kinvara 11, truimp 17, and Clifton 6 they fit great out the box the first time and inspires me to run for miles.

    I'm shifting to the Pegasus 37 after retiring my Pegasus 36 from last year. I kinda agree with most of your observations except for the response of the air bag: it's the opposite for me - the bag feels it has lower resistance at higher paces (~4-5min/km). It feels really cushy at lower paces (7:00min+/km). My guess is that the heat may be having a significant effect on the air bag making the shoe feel stiffer as the air expands. It feels kind of weird because there are times when I can feel like I'm running on solid ground without padding.
    On your development thoughts, I might disagree that the increased weight is a step in the wrong direction. As I can see it, the Pegasus line-up was geared towards the daily trainer segment as you've also mentioned so wouldn't weight be a low contributor in the right direction? I used my 36s for well over 1000km and got to say, they did their outsoles really well and looks like the 37s maintain this. From my initial runs, yes the weight is higher but there's also a significant difference in energy return so I'd say that's a net improvement.

    Has anyone else ran into Achilles problems since wearing the 37s? I’m not sure if it’s a sizing issue, to do with the heel construction, or purely coincidental. I've put 150 miles in my Peg 37s, and felt they they got better as I ran in them more. May it was me adapting to the shoe a bit, or maybe the React foam and the rest of the shoe 'broke in'. Either way, I've enjoyed this shoe and it's been better than I expected. I still like my Adidas Solar Glide 19 more, particularly for those long runs (18+ miles), but it's a shoe that I would recommend to others too.

      Roveir, sorry I missed your reply. If I were blindfolded, I would be able to tell a difference between the two shoes. It's hard to explain, but the Nike is a bit more snug and has more arch support. The Adidas feels more secure and more comfortable around the ankle and achilles heel.
      Ossie, I now have over 300 miles in the Pegasus 37 and honestly, like it even more than at 150 miles. I've never had a shoe feel better in time like this, but it has convinced me to recommend the Pegasus 37 even more than before. Between the two shoes, if I had to choose only one, it would be whatever I can get for the cheapest price.

    I don't quite agree with removing the outsole rubber, or portions of it. The Peg lineup is known for that beefy outsole that lasts forever. One of the big appeals of the Peg is that it's a daily trainer that will last you (potentially) years. Removing portions of the outsole would substantially reduce the longevity of the shoe. If decreasing weight is the goal, I agree that some of the padding in the upper could be reduced.

  • @CarlosStorms
    @CarlosStorms 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree about the weight! I’m that air unit must be quite heavy to be heavier than last years model even with the lighter React Foam. My impression was that the weight goes up to go down next year. They should release a more trimmed down version

    I find the weight ( relatively high) of the Peg 37’s seem to be offset by the good energy return of the react cushioning and air bag . It’s an odd sensation. It might be my imagination but I feel I get the same overall speed times in the Pegs as I do in my Adidas SL20’s and my Adizero 4’s ( my speed shoes).

    this is my first pair of Pegasus and I like them. I agree they are somewhat of a hot shoe. I use them in my daily trainer rotation. These shoes are very comfortable but you I can pick up the pace pretty easily in them. Overall, i like them.
    I noticed yours have a larger swoosh and different laces. Did you add those laces after purchase or did they come with them? The laces that came with my pair are too short especially if you use the runner's knot. I may pick up a pair of those laces like you have with the lace lock.
